Hello everyone and welcome back to another video. In this video, we will try to install a deep-loaded version of Windows 11 called Tiny 11 on a phone from 2015. So let's get started. So here we have the phone, it's a Microsoft Lumia 950xl made in 2015.

Running Windows 10 mobile, it features a 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED panel as you can see here, three gigabytes of memory and 32 gigabytes of storage, and it's powered by the Snapdragon 810 8-core CPU. It also has a removable back

where we can upgrade the storage using a Micro SD card and even remove the battery, which is very nice, as you can see by the pins here. It even has wireless charging, which was not really that common back in 2015. It also has a

USB-C port which can be used with various dock accessories to even get a screen signal or display signal out of the phone. So we don't need this here. So yeah, why I bought this phone: first of all, I never had a Windows 10 mobile phone. I had several Windows Phone

7 and Windows Mobile 6 phones, but not one using Windows 10 mobile, which is, to be honest, a quite nice operating system. It's very responsive. It has aged very well. The problem was just that there weren't any apps for it. So in the end,

you probably know Microsoft killed the project, but as usual, when Microsoft kills a project, some very knowledgeable persons start to modify the devices because they become cheap, and this is also the case here. Similar to my absolute favorite smartphone of all time, the HTC HD1, what, HTC HD2, people

started porting all sorts of operating systems onto the Lumia 950 and 950 XL for example there was a part of Android there was a part of Linux there was a part of Windows X that was a part of Windows 10 on ARM and there were many

other operating system parts so in today's video what we want to look at is the Windows 10 or Windows 11 on ARM parts since I saw a post about a stripped down Windows 11 on ARM called Tiny 11 from the developer NT Dev

running on the Raspberry Pi I thought maybe we can use this and also boot Tiny 11 on this phone because there are many videos showcasing the performance of Windows 10 and Windows 11 on this phone because people started back in 2020 with all the

Windows parts for this phone and they don't run that great actually and since then Windows has become even more bloated so the idea of a stripped down Windows that works on an ARM device seems to be very compelling and fitting for this phone so yeah let's start by

removing Windows 10 Mobile here unlocking the bootloader and trying to install Tiny 11. so for the installation we need a computer running Windows 11 or Windows 10 and what better device to use than my beloved GPD Pocket 2 a fully featured

notebook that is just slightly bigger than the phone we will be flashing today the first step is to download the Tiny 11 ISO file which can be done from the internet archive the link will be in the description so while this is downloading we should start by unlocking the

bootloader on the Lumia 950xl. For this, we need a tool called Windows Phone Internals, or short WP Internals. I will also put the link to all the software in the description if you want to do this yourself. And the first thing we need to

do is, like I said, unlock our bootloader here, which I will do. Then it says we need to connect our phone. Oh yeah, of course, the USB port is upside down on this device for no reason. Okay, we need to switch the phone into flash mode, which it automatically does.

That's great. Let's balance the phone somewhere here. It rebooted, and it looks like we are flashing. Ah, now here, here you need to provide the original firmware and also something which is called emergency programmer. I will just link a tutorial in the video description on how to

unlock the bootloader here. Then you go to unlock, and it should unlock the bootloader. And once the bootloader is unlocked, we can then deploy Windows to this phone. Okay, it's rebooting several times. Okay, it mounted the phone in mass storage mode. Okay, now I need to reboot the phone

which is done by holding the power button for a few seconds. Okay, it's rebooting. [Music] And the phone just booted. Bootloader unlocked successfully, apparently good. So we can now minimize Windows Phone Internals because we need it later and make sure our download is already done

which it is. So now we mount the ISO, and from the ISO, under sources, there is a file which contains all the necessary data for a Windows installation, and it is fittingly called install.ESD or install.wim. Apparently some time ago it was called

install.wim and since the file got too large they had to compress it and now it's called install.esd and the ESD file is just a compressed Wim file we can extract a Wim file from a ESD file but as far as

I know we don't need to and the process should already also work using the ESD file here so we can copy that and paste it somewhere we know for example the desktop now we need a program called Windows on ARM Deployer which is used to deploy

like it says in the name to deploy the Windows 11 image onto our phone okay so it tells us we need our Wim file and what we need to do first is put our phone into mass storage mode which we can do in Windows Phone Internals

switch to mass storage mode hello so it should now reboot into mass storage mode okay and it is in mass storage mode now we should close Windows Phone Internals and go back to the Windows on ARM Deployer for Lumia here we can select our install.esd our image

open and it correctly knows that this is a Windows 11 Pro build which it is and now let's just hit deploy [Music] it will now download all the drivers for the Lumia and then deploy our image this will take some time so I will just skip

forward to the interesting parts okay so the deployment process seems to be done it tells us here that we have to eject the phone and then reboot using our new bootloader so let's eject it here and plug it in and now we hold the power button to

reboot the phone okay it boots and now we should see our new boot manager which we can see that's so funny that looks like a really old school Windows boot manager so yeah volume keys select through the options and the camera button is to select the

item it appears to be booting too valid boring minutes later the idea of holding the phone like that all the time was really not a great idea the phone also starts getting kind of hot and the Snapdragon 810 is actually notoriously known for overheating so

let's see if we can actually make it to the Windows login screen okay the screen went dark and we are rebooting I don't know yet if this is a good or a bad sign this is taking 400 years oh that looks good just a moment

I mean I don't want to jinx it but I did not think that it would be this easy to just deploy the image and go because Tiny 11 has many components removed from Windows 11 so the fact that it actually boots in the on this weird phone here is

kind of surprising to me okay [Music] oh that looks great we have a Windows 11 boot screen yay yeah okay now let's complete the Windows setup and then we have a installed Windows damn that's cool ah I might want to get my keyboard and mouse here okay

so now I have my wireless keyboard and mouse hooked up to a USBC adapter which we will plug into the phone and for charging I also have this cool RGB charging pack here okay but it it does not work okay that's a bummer then let's just see

if we can complete the installation that way okay continue you with the limited setup who is going to use this device I mean isn't that clear it will be me [Music] passwords also me my first pet I mean that was of course me

the name of my oldest cousin you probably have guessed it it's me and my childhood nickname was me we can also try to use wired charging in this setup to be honest no Microsoft I don't want to give you my location details thanks and no ads Diagnostics and

stuff like that okay just a moment I'm really stoked if this works now hi getting things ready for you that actually sounds like it will work that might have been the smoothest installation in every tech video I did over the last years just deploy the

image and go that was even simpler than installing Windows on some real computers I did back in the day this might take a few minutes okay I'm impressed I'm really impressed don't turn off your PC seems to be still going almost there

it actually worked it worked we have Windows 11 on this phone crazy absolutely crazy let's have a look in the task manager and see how much resources we are actually using Ted's not too promising I did not want to open Edge thank you

okay here we can see that we actually still have four gigabytes free on our device which is quite cool because we only have 18 gigabytes in total on this partition okay I can't seem to close Edge in the meantime I want to try another USB

adapter maybe that one will work no ah no it does work we have a cursor nice Okay so [Music] let's please close Edge [Music] thank you what the hell is Edge doing 13 processes I like how Edge is literally closed and still using 13 processors

okay so now Edge is finally closed thank you but yeah as we can see our CPU is about 50 percent utilized and we can actually see all our cores oh that's interesting it can only use four of the cores so probably the four high performance cores and the other ones seem to be

I mean they are utilized but not that much and for memory that that is really great we only use 1.9 gigabytes of memory ah and our CPU usage just dropped maybe Windows was still getting some processes finished but yeah as you can see we have a full Windows 11 and it's

responsive it's actually quite responsive I'm I'm Blown Away by that actually in the intro I made a comparison to the HTC HD2 which also received many parts of operating systems so is the Lumia 950xl a worthy successor in a spiritual way to the HD2

I would say yes here you can see a Ubuntu distribution also a desktop operating system running on the HD2 and that was not really usable to be honest but Windows 10 on ARM on here is actually genuinely usable so I think the Lumia 950 can actually be a spiritual

successor at least regarding the modding scene to the HTC HD2 but both will remain in my collection and at heart the HD2 is still one of my favorite phones but yeah it's great to see what people can do with the Lumia 950xl after
