Hey there, I'm going to show you how to play *Phantasy Star Online* in VR through VRChat. Ignore the Ryu Hayabusa from

the Ninja Gaiden avatar; it has nothing to do with anything. All right, uh, before we get started, you are seeing this VR screen on

just probably a monitor or something. Uh, while you're in VR, you have a wider field of view, so it looks more

impressive, more real, more natural. Uh, you might even be seeing like the outline of a shadow where it's taking the images

from my two eyeballs and putting them over top of each other. I don't see that while I'm in VR; it's just some sort of

artifact of recording VR. Okay, that out of the way. To get to the *Phantasy Star Online* world, you go to

Worlds, search, type in 'Phantasy' with a 'Ph', of course. That should be enough for the search, and there it is, the first

one. Uh, it is... you can join a public instance; there might be people playing. I've done that; I've played with people,

um, but I'm going to do a new instance and invite only, just so I'm not interrupted. So,

join, and it's loading. And I've got to say, the first time I jumped into this, it's like I just had

a nostalgia rush! The music, the visuals... but then being there on top of everything is nuts! The feeling of being

there, and I'm in... just the different perspective of seeing this world that I know so well. See the planet moving

around, see the blackness of space. Oh, there's my sword. Uh, there's this thing; I don't remember

what that is. There's this lady, and she's following me with her eyes. That's kind of creepy. I'm going to

hide down here. She still sees me. Okay, so here's a board that tells you what this is all about. Um, it's a project by

I think one person, uh, Kaz, uh, they've got a Patreon and a Discord, and uh, project scope expects an almost

feature-complete version of Fantasy Star Online, including lobbies, inventory, mags, combat, loot, shops, boss fights, and more. A

roadmap is available on the Discord, and I've looked at it, and uh, it sounds exciting. I think right now Forest 11 is

the only available place, uh, for you to play besides Pioneer 2. Um, and I think Forest 2 is coming soonish, probably in

the new year, I think. So, teleporters you control by pressing the jump key in VR Chat. Weapons

uh, open your menu with your right joystick up. There's the menu. Um, there's a spot for text, but you

can't use any right now. You are not a wizard yet. Um, it's got basic combat implementation right now. It's got melee weapons and

ranged weapons, but no tech. So you pick the saber, get rid of your menu by pressing up again, and then you hold the grip on

your controller, and that right there is how you defend yourself. Those lines pop up when you're being attacked, and you align

your weapon with that, and uh, if you do it, then you'll parry it. I think in the original game

your parry chance was down to luck or defense maybe, but in this it's manual. Uh, in the original game it was

more about attacking and then moving out of the way, which is a little bit cumbersome in first person, so I'm glad

we have this manual parry technique. So I'm just going to go try it out, and then I'll explore Pioneer 2 after I do a

little bit of combat. And all the all the NPCs just keep following you. [Music] Quit [Music]

Ah, I'm here. I'm in Forest, uh, walking in the little stream. Put my hand in it. [Music]

You can interact with those that aren't interactable yet. Whoops! Uh, this is so... let's pop our blade here.

And boom! So in this version, this is still like a demo; it's still early days making this, so um, you

can pick up the weapons, you can equip the weapons, but you need to just get one of each. And uh, when you're playing multiplayer,

it can be up to five players. Not sure why five instead of four, but it can. Um, and it kind of... you only look as cool to

other people as you know, as what you do with your body. It's VR; your character follows your body. So here, I'm

going to open up the personal mirror here and see what Ryu Hayabusa looks like. So, you know, I've seen people just

go over to enemies, just go bop, bop, bop, and uh, you know, they look silly, but it

works. Uh, I like to try to get more into it, so I... I take big swings. I can't remember the exact attack

pattern from the original game. Is it like up, down...? No, it's probably over, up, down. I think something like

that. Anyways, sometimes I try to do that; sometimes I panic. So let's fight our first enemies. Parry! Now, when you get surrounded,

that's when it gets [Music] hard. And they killed me! So when you die, you just wait a

second and your health will regen. Not sure what the final version of this game will be like; if it'll still be

like that, but [Music] getting overwhelmed, run away, just like the original [Music] game. Okay, let's try the

daggers. Can't remember the original dagger attack pattern. I know there's a spin in it. I don't

know. Already got one of those, so if I had a friend, they could pick that up. I mean, I do have friends, just not

Killed me! I want revenge! I've got to get closer. These tiny little knives... Ah, all right.

[Music] My goodness! All right. I think there might be something special in here; a sword that'll give me some breathing

room. You can sweep through all the enemies, just like the original game. [Music] Oh, shoot! [Music]

[Music] Ouch! It feels pretty cool when you uh, successfully parry and don't take damage. [Music]

[Music] Ouch! Oh, the wolves! They're [Music] [Music] hard! Ouch! Come on, come

[Music] on! All right. So yeah, Alvive Forest One is here, and I just mean, like, the details, like I

I would never appreciate that butterfly if it wasn't for VR, and whatever these are; these weird things I don't remember

ever taking notice of them. And this big [Music] mushroom! Already got one of those. Okay, I got this.

Oh, no! The mosquitoes! All right, I need my sword! Come back! I'm ready for you! Ouch!

Ouch! Oh, that level-up sound! Oh my god! Oh, it's a swarm! Ouch! Oh God! [Music]

Stressful and kind of gross. All right, here's my first [Music] gun! Nice! So I like to hold it sideways, like the

rarl from Episode Two, sometimes. So the game, when you're using the handgun, you it still gives you a

knife to parry with if you want, but I like to try to be authentic and just do the proper Ranger thing and run away.

when they get too close [Music] a rifle, so the rifle, you do not get anything to parry with. It's just the

rifle. There's no scope to look down, unfortunately, but much bigger range than the pistol. The pistol's just easier to use

though, in my opinion, even though you've got to get closer. What do I look like with the pistol? Even though I don't have to, I

still want to do the timed combos for the attacks. You can press the trigger as much as you want.

I don't need to aim; hit fire. Oh no, stay back! Stay back! What [Music] [Applause]

Oh [Music] So I'll just take the teleporter back to Pioneer 2 by Forest 1. So yeah, Pioneer 2 is all here.

Never really took notice of those [Music] ships. You can go in here with the uh, incredibly blocky nurses.

She walked right through me; that felt weird. All right, banker lady, give me my [Music]

money. You can go in here; none of these shops are interactable yet. There's that weirdo who identifies

things [Music] things. Can I... some buttons? Those are just painted [Music] on. Then one last thing you can do is you

can uh, go back to the teleporter you originally arrived on and use it. It takes you to the kind of the lobby

area where they've got some avatar characters or PSO characters. I guess you know... who that's a long way

and uh maybe contribute and get this thing going faster until we get the whole game in VR. I believe Kaz said they're

working on a standalone version of this that's separate from the VR Chat version. The VR Chat version takes priority, but I think the
