Hello, this is Dang. Today, I would like to talk about the reasons why Vietnam, a country in Southeast Asia, is not to be missed. Many people are interested in and have fantasies about Vietnam in Southeast Asia. Each person may have their own reasons, but most people who have traveled abroad have briefly stayed in Vietnam, experienced warm weather, affordable prices, and overall, felt welcomed as Koreans. They start to think, It would be nice to live in a place like this. After visiting several times, captivated by the fantasy of a leisurely life in a different country, they end up coming to Vietnam for long-term residency. For me, it all started with overseas travel. As mentioned in many videos, I have traveled to and lived in 56 countries. Among them, about 20 years ago, during a trip to Nepal, I met a Korean elderly couple living a truly leisurely life.

Since then, I have lived saying that I will go abroad before I turn forty like a horse, but as my mind started to settle, I had a wife and two children, so I was concerned about education, and the most important thing was medical facilities and hospitals. I thought there might not be a hospital to go to when my children get sick. So, I had to give up on my dream of Pokhara, the second medical city of Nepal, that I had been dreaming of for 20 years. As an alternative, about 3-4 years ago, I suddenly received love from the Vietnamese city of Da Nang, which is relatively close to Korea. Before immigrating here, I came here several times on business trips, and I found that the schools and hospitals are not bad, the distance is relatively close to Korea, and as someone from the countryside, I thought it was just the right size for me. In 2018, I came here about two months earlier than my family, found a house, and went to the market.

I also did some research, and then my family came in, and we toured the city of Danang together. I had been to Danang several times on business trips, but it was the first time for my wife and children in Vietnam. To create a good impression, we stayed at the Grand Sheraton Danang, which had just opened at that time, in an executive room. While traveling together, my wife and even my two-week-old baby didn't seem to mind, so we've been living in Vietnam for three years now. I always say that since then, I have always stayed in such nice places and only shown them good things on purpose. In Korea, I changed jobs only once and worked at a travel agency for 14 years. Through that experience and connection, I was able to settle down easily even within two steps. However, suddenly, when the coronavirus hit, the travel industry collapsed, but the children were still going to school.

I am finding it difficult to return easily because I am already living here and adapting. I often think about how it would have been if I were in Korea. Now, let's send our best wishes to the immigrants in Vietnam from Southeast Asia. Most Korean expatriates in Vietnam return within an average of 3 to 5 years. What could be the reason for this? Is it because their abilities are lacking, their talents are insufficient, or luck is not on their side? I will now explain why it is not advisable to stay in Vietnam for more than 2 weeks, one by one. I will also talk about retirement immigration in the last part. The points I have mentioned from now on will not be limited to Vietnam. I think many Southeast Asian countries may be similar. Firstly, it is as challenging to succeed in business in Vietnam as it is in Korea. The majority of people are running businesses targeting tourists.

Now, have many people really thought about doing business with Vietnamese people? Doing business with Vietnamese people is challenging because of language barriers, the need to leave a large margin at once, mismatch with Vietnamese consumer preferences, and various other issues. Therefore, we choose the easier target, tourists. Tourists, especially those who come to John's, have a high chance of success if they have a good location and good items. However, the problem is that if a business does well, Koreans start opening similar shops one after another, eventually leading to competition and collapse. Many shops in Danang are closed now, but before COVID, there were countless shops offering various products, especially shoe stores. Among them, the number of shoe stores suddenly increased noticeably.

Most of the CEOs are Koreans. Secondly, Korean laws do not naturally apply in this country. Instead, customs and relationships are important. In Vietnam, it is difficult for Koreans to run a business, so they start a business by hiring Vietnamese as frontmen. Starting a business with anxiety, even such a difficult business is often visited by the police, citing various reasons related to taxes, fire safety, etc., and end up paying a lot of money. The easiest solution is to give money. When running a massage parlor, if the police come, the Vietnamese manager pays a fixed amount to resolve the issue immediately. The police then leave the massage parlor and move to the next store. Should we really do business in a country where we have to run a business with such anxiety? Thirdly, visa-related policies are already a characteristic of socialist industrial society.

If you are doing business, it is easier to get a visa that suits you, but if you are here for your child's education like me, there is no appropriate visa. The child can stay with a student visa, but for parents, there is no suitable visa system. The cost of a student visa has increased from $150 per year to 250% now, and for tourist visas, you have to continuously renew or get a new one depending on the type, which costs around $100 per person for three months. So, for one year, it costs around $400, and my wife and I spend $800 a year. When you add the pizza costs for our two children, it amounts to about 1.5 million won. Moreover, visa policies change frequently, maybe due to the socialist nature of this country, or because of special circumstances like the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been restrictions, bans, and support for small business owners.

Harsh policies were implemented for the residents, and they were often announced abruptly, without prior notice, just a day before. Sometimes, only the start of the policy was communicated, without clearly stating when it would end. Business owners who have to cover monthly rent, labor costs, and other expenses would suffer significant losses if they were unable to operate their businesses or deliver goods. Schools and hospitals are another issue. There are many international schools here, and even within a short distance, there are many international schools. However, despite the high costs compared to Chiang Mai in Thailand, the quality of education is not satisfactory. Therefore, many parents have already transferred their children to schools in Thailand. There are hospitals that cater to foreigners, but as I mentioned before, the medical expenses for foreigners are exorbitant.

Especially for those considering retirement immigration, it seems essential to carefully consider health, liver, and medical care. Then, let me briefly talk about retirement immigration. If you look at my comments, it says that to live well in Vietnam, you need to have 500 million to 1.5 billion VND. And there is a comment on that comment saying, If you have 1 billion VND in Ok, why go to Vietnam? Both are correct. If you are planning to come to Vietnam, it would be more accurate to prepare money rather than documents or studying about Vietnam. Also, you should think about whether it is necessary to come to Vietnam with that much money. It may not be bad to live on a pension. If there are job opportunities in Vietnam or if there are truly blue ocean items here, of course, investing in Vietnam to achieve more significant results would be a good choice. However, the more you know about Vietnam, the scarier it seems as a country to invest in.

I will let you know that you may not know it well, but I have also seen cases of people succeeding in business around them. When you come to Southeast Asia or Vietnam for immigration, you may need more accurate local information. I hope that this video will be somewhat helpful to those who are immigrating with a not small amount of capital, hoping for a clear path. I will finish today's video, hoping that it will be of some help. Thank you for watching today as well. I hope you always stay healthy. Goodbye.
