after arrest and before trial comes jail. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. [Music] I work for Maricopa County in detention. Law enforcement is just something that's in my blood. We meet all different kinds of people, from people addicted to drugs, alcoholics, combatives. I like to feel like I'm trying to make a difference. I have five children, and I want to feel safe and let them, you know, see what's out there in the world and kind of brief them on, you know, what to expect in life, what kind of people there are. Ask me questions when they don't do nothing for me. That's all I said. And he come over here and grabbed me. He was pounding on the table. I didn't pound on them. Hey, I was trying to get up.

um I'm telling you to get up, and you're acting like an idiot. Not like that, man. You want to get up aggressively, that's the way you're going to be treated. Now I'm giving you the option to act like a normal person, and I got handcuffs, son. I bet you feel real tough right now, don't you? Okay, ready? Let's go. Shut up. Oh, it works. [Music] Up now, you're the one that started right there when they sat him down so he could get his medical screening. He refused to talk to the medical staff. He got irate and combative with our officers. Our officers assisted in taking him down at that time. Okay, all right. Sounds like you guys got it under control out first look. All right, well, he's a little aggravated at this point, so we're going to give him a few minutes to calm down, and then we'll try to talk to him again. Foreign [Music] ER Maricopa just wondering if maybe you could tell me what was going on outside.

uh pre-intake earlier. I only got part of the story. I already talked to the officer. I wanted to get your side of the store, maybe tell me what was going on. Well, I was uh, the girl was going to get my vitals. She was asking questions, okay? And I said, Why are you asking me this? Because I was just in here a few weeks ago. I told you I have withdrawals, and I never did nothing for me but do my vitals every day, okay? Were you in here for a long period of time, or were you released? You were in our month, okay? Well, I can go ahead and look into that, make sure if you're going to be here. I said, So I'm not going to give you my information, and the guy told me to stand up, okay? Go ahead and sit down, and he slammed me, and then they all jumping, okay? And then they told me, That's right, calm down. I've stretch marks out like they told me, and then they said, Get up, so I knew it to jump up, and they

tackled me again. Look, yeah, um, what kind of withdrawals do you go through? What are you withdrawing from? This alcohol? Just alcohol, okay. Are you, did you drink anything before you came in today? Oh, yeah, yeah, okay. My understanding was that you jumped up kind of aggressively, so they put you back down right away. Can I show you? I don't mean, I guess this is how I get up all the time. It's my habit, right? Well, to them, you got to understand in their job, when people act that way, and to them, it looks like an aggressive motion, so they put you back down. But it's hard to get up with handcuffs, okay? I understand that. I understand it. I'm just telling you for future reference, move slowly, because when you're in a job like this, you know, you never know when somebody makes a sudden move. You could be getting up to start a fight with one of my officers. You could be getting up to start a fight with me, so just cooperate with the officers and, you know, don't

give them any grief. Thank you very much, sir. He's kind of taking responsibility for his actions somewhat. I still think it has partly to do with the intoxication, um, where he's not going to ever take responsibility for what he did. But we're going to look into his medical history, see if he does suffer from withdrawals, and that way we can get medical involved in the proper manner. foreign [Music] [Applause] County Corrections Deputy. I've been doing this job for four years. The other deputies in Booking is pretty much like a close family because you actually have to have each other's back, so it's more like a brother-sister friendship type. You get that type of camaraderie with one another [Music] the counter hey right here [Music] Chicago [Music] um. This right here is a crack pipe I guess that somebody put up here, so now we just got to figure out where it came from and who brought it in, which is gonna probably be next to Impossible because nobody's gonna admit up admit to it.

because it's an extra charge, so I'm just gonna bring up that camera. I'm trying to see what angle that would be, probably HCl4, because it was like on the corner. So I'm gonna look at, take a look at the video within the last hour and see if we can find the individual or individuals who laid it there. She was laying right here, like right almost right there. Yeah, we're gonna talk to her and tell her that we have her on video placing the crack pipe on the ledge and walking away. She can either admit to having it in her possession or not. I mean, we got her, you know, dead to

the wall right there. All right, okay. [Music] On camera, put in the backpack on the edge of the counter. So, you're admitting to them you put that crack tight there. Go ahead, searching you down. Do you have anything else? Where'd you have it stuck? It up [Applause]. Have a seat in that front row right there until I decide what we're going to do. We saw it. She didn't deny it. She said she had it once. She was pat down. Whatever she took it out and put it up there. So, strip search that she had nothing else on her. So, go ahead and run it up as possession of contraband by her own admission. Admitted to having it concealed in her body cavity. And then, uh, make sure you put that a copy of the report that will be forwarded to the jail detectives for further disposition. Okay, the cameras are an excellent resource. Without the cameras, it'd be, you know, something like that could inevitably could have been missed very easily, and another inmate could have picked it up.

and gotten it into the secure part of the facility. It's a win-win situation. Name and booking number. Um, have a seat. She's high, not oriented to where she's at. Pretty much being here for prostitution and finding the um, drug paraphernalia. She probably has nothing to lose, so she probably prefers to be here. It's probably a better place for it. [Music]
