Hello, it's nice to meet you. In this video, we will learn about ANSYS Discovery. Discovery is a component of the system, and you can create it here. Unlike the existing Unbalanced Systems, as you will see next, it only contains the geometry part, specifically the geometry cell. If you double-click this part, it will execute. Alternatively, for external CAD files, you can right-click on the geometry part and import it from your browser for use. If you simply click on New Discovery Geometry, Discovery will execute. Now that Discovery has started, let's briefly look at the screen layout. From the Design tab to the Prepare tab, you can think of it as SpaceClaim.

In the simulation part, we now have various structures, fluid dynamics, thermal analysis, and even electromagnetics, all being interpreted on a single platform. In a way, it is designed to be similar to existing design programs like CATIA, Inventor, or SolidWorks, rather than traditional analysis-specific programs. If you look at the individual icons, you will find that the functionalities are somewhat limited compared to dedicated analysis programs like Static Structure or Fluent. Rather than being weaker, the functions focus on extracting and utilizing only the core elements. Additionally, since we can also perform multiphysics analysis, this is something that can be achieved as well.

It seems that we have completed one of the ribbon menus. Nevertheless, I personally believe that using it from the designer's perspective will result in a better program for you all. If you want to interpret it a bit more professionally, you can utilize the systems available on the bench, specifically the Elysus systems. In any case, if you have been using the existing space claim from the design phase to the preparation phase, it shouldn't be too difficult. We also do not use all the features available in the space claim, so as long as you are familiar with the basic core functions, you should be fine. In this video, we will create a simple cantilever beam and proceed with its analysis. Before we begin, let's take a look at some features of the Discovery and then proceed. First, if you click on this part, the homepage will open.

A window like this will appear, and we have provided some samples to make it easier for you to practice. As for tutorials, you can utilize the online tutorials available in the Run section. If we happen to create Discovery videos in the future, it is likely that we will make use of online tutorials as well. For help, you can click on Online Help to visit the help site, where you can refer to the manual for any parts you are unsure about. Unfortunately, while Discovery supports languages like Chinese, French, German, and Japanese, it does not support Korean. I think this is because there haven't been many cases of Korean users utilizing Discovery that NCC has encountered, so the Korean language has not yet been added.

Anyway, if possible, it is best to refer to the original English text as it is the most accurate. Although it may be less readable than Korean, those of you who will be using it in practice, such as in company training or from the provider of this program, will receive basic training, so you can refer to that training for help. The reason I clicked is to briefly look at the features of Discovery, and the biggest feature is the Explorer function. If you search for videos about Discovery on platforms like YouTube, you will see that we can check the interpretation results in real-time as the shape changes. This aspect is the most significant feature. To check it immediately, we also need specific specifications.

First, in the license constraints consideration section, if you click on this part, it minimizes the fact that we need a graphics card to utilize the explorer function. Generally, we interpret that the CPU is heavily used, but since we check things in real time graphically, the graphics card becomes important. The recommended memory is over 32GB, and in my case, since it has been a long time since I purchased my computer, I have an old graphics card. Unfortunately, an alert pops up saying that I cannot use the explorer mode. However, apart from that function, we can utilize all the other features of the discovery. If purchasing such a graphics card is not feasible due to its cost, then you won't be able to use that specific function.

First of all, I would like you to take a look at this part, and if you happen to have a gaming computer, it will be sufficient for using these features. I believe that there aren’t many people who don’t play games these days, so if you do decide to use it, purchasing a computer of that caliber will naturally allow for good speed. It’s not just about interpretation; you will also be able to use the Explorer function. For now, let’s stop here regarding the help section and return to the Discovery part. This time, we will briefly look at the online tutorial. There are various options to choose from, and you can click on the simulation section. As for the user interface, there isn’t much I need to introduce to you, but in any case, it’s similar to SpaceClaim.

If you have ever tried interpreting the existing features, they are displayed in a compressed format, so there isn't much to explain. However, for beginners or those using Discovery or NCS for the first time, watching these videos will be helpful. Now, returning to Discovery, if you click on the Help button at the top of the home page, you will see an explanation of the interface appear on the screen. To briefly look at a few things, this part is the ribbon menu, and the hexagonal part displayed is called the stage navigator. Additionally, this section is the model tree, and there are new views, such as the view arc, that were not included in the language systems provided in the previous bundle from the bench.

There is something called result arc, but it’s not a big deal. If you click on each icon one by one, you will find that it’s just a collection of the parts we already know. For now, you can run the program and take a quick look at this section. For more details on other contents, you can click on each item here to explore further. If you click on Simulation Information Display, you will see the hexagonal part that I previously described, which is referred to as the simulation information display. The lower part is where we can select modes. In my case, due to the performance limitations of my graphics card...

The Explorer mode cannot be used, and I will explain the other modes after returning to the screen. The red hexagonal area shows where error messages or warning messages from NCC are displayed. If you try to interpret what is shown here, you will understand its meaning. Click to exit the help section, and now let's return to the screen. First, we need to create a model in the Design tab, which is currently set to sketch mode automatically. If you want to select a desired plane, it seems we have entered sketch mode. To select a plane, click on New Plane in Space Claim, and we can choose what we want.

When you select an axis, the corresponding plane will also be selected. For now, let's choose the basic plane. Once we have selected the axis, this feature allows us to move the plane in the direction of that axis. There is also a separate function called Move that you can utilize. Additionally, in the case of the Space Plane, there is a feature for creating a sketch plane. However, in the Discovery version, that part is not visible. Even if that feature is not available, we can still click on the sketch in any part and exit. When we create a model, you can use the sketch on the corresponding face of the model. This is a function for viewing a flat plane, and you can think of this part as the function that allows you to transition into 3D. We have explained all of this in SpaceClaim, so we will just take a brief look at it and move on. Now, regarding the existing default plane, unlike in SpaceClaim, in order to create a rectangle at the center point, the properties for the rectangle are usually displayed on this side, but in the case of Discovery, they are shown on this side. You can click on Draw Flower Center, then select View Plane Viewer, and mark the center point to create a rectangle that is 30 by 30. Once the sketch is complete, you can exit the sketch by pressing the ESC key. Additionally, the mouse operations are similar to those in SpaceClaim.

The mouse operations used in the system at Workbench can be applied as they are. Currently, the zoom direction is reversed, so let's click on that part and change the wheel inversion in the navigation from download to upward. This adjustment is necessary when dragging, and it would be good to set the drag direction to up as well. Click on glows, and you will be able to confirm that the zoom wheel direction has been reversed. You can exit the sketch here, or if you click pull directly, you will exit into 3D mode. Select the surface and pull it out; let's input a dimension of 100 for now. However, 100 seems too small, so let's change it to 200. Then, click esc to finish up.

In this video, we briefly mentioned selling and interpreting, so we will no longer use the features related to space claims. Let's go to the simulation tab. First, click on the edit button in the material section. Currently, it is set to structure elastic, but you can select the material you want from the available options. There aren't many materials to choose from, but there might be a section for modifying material properties, similar to engineering data. However, we won't be making any changes here. The density is displayed, and by clicking on the sheet that switches to XL display, you can see the density and other material properties. Currently, there are no options to modify parameters like the tensile modulus, and it seems we might be able to import various materials as well, but for now, that part is...

If you recognize it or if I find out separately, I will explain any parts that need clarification. First of all, we will use the default material, which is structural steel S275N, meaning 275 Newtons, and we will use a structural steel with a thickness of 6mm. I'm not sure if it's exactly 275, but N cannot refer to Newtons. Usually, the number that comes after represents the strength or some symbol, but it doesn't seem to refer to Newtons. So, you can just think of it as S275N. The material part refers to the section where we change the color. If you click on the part that looks like an army sergeant's insignia, the information needed for the actual analysis will be listed here. It seems that modifications are also possible, but one disappointing aspect is that the data displayed in graphs is a bit lacking.

It seems that even if you click, the graph data is not visible. Nevertheless, from the perspective of a designer, you can consider that all the necessary data for minimal interpretation is provided. In a way, we are now included in the bundle, but previously, I understand that it was sold as a standalone platform. It seems that it was judged to be less competitive compared to existing design programs, which is why it has come into the workbench. Since the modeling capabilities are significantly lacking compared to design programs, and since design programs often focus more on modeling, it seems that it was assessed as being less competitive in that regard, leading to its inclusion in the workbench. It seems ambiguous that the interpretation function itself is significantly lacking compared to the existing analysis systems. Aside from the advantages of being able to check in real-time and proceeding on a single platform, it seems to be a program that lacks major merits. However, from the perspective of a designer, being able to see the results of shape changes immediately could be a more critical issue. Therefore, rather than calling it a program necessary for interpreters, it seems more suited for designers. Additionally, it appears to be designed in such a way that even non-experts can more easily approach and use the interpretation features. This time, by clicking on the structural icon, if you click on this part, the following will appear, where an explanation of the selected part is mostly provided.

If we take a look, the first item is the moment, the second is the displacement, and the third is the pressure. This part will now become the load, and this section pertains to the support. The support can be further explored; if we click on the inverted triangle, we can choose fixed, sliding, hinge, ball, and displacement options. The remaining parts, such as the contact section, will be selected when the model transitions to multi-body. Currently, we only have a single solid, so the contact aspect is displayed separately. You can also select the other parts and read the explanations provided. Regarding the load and support, we have addressed both structural stick and static structure comprehensively.

There doesn't seem to be any particularly different functions to look at. Since we have already addressed these aspects in the static structural load section of the workbench, those who are unsure can refer to that part. Since we are dealing with a cantilever beam, we need to specify the fixed boundary conditions. After that, we can select the load, this time clicking on the inverted triangle. First, ensure the selection mode is set to select. This section pertains to setting the direction, and we can reverse the direction by selecting this face. We will input a total force value of 106 tons acting on that face. Additionally, you can check the boundary conditions we specified in the tree section. If you need to modify any parameters, you can click on the editor to do so.

I'm changing the direction or the sign by pulling. Since this is my first time using it, I'm a bit clumsy and there are some uncomfortable points, but I've changed it back to pulling. Now, the second one is gravity, which you can think of as specifying the gravity and speed. In this part, we are looking at the global coordinate system, and the model coordinate system is the same as the global coordinate system. So, as a reference for this notation, if you want to input the gravitational acceleration or specify the direction of the gravitational acceleration on a certain face, edge, or axis, you can click this part and select it. Basically, if we consider the self-weight, you should input the gravitational acceleration. For now, we will omit gravity, but if you want to add it, the include part is currently highlighted in red.

To add this part, you can click, and it will change to blue. Currently, since we have not entered a value in the negative Z-axis direction, no value is displayed. However, since we will not be using gravity, let's click again to remove gravity. Now, if we have set all the boundary conditions, you can click on the Show Mesh option to check the mesh. I initially wanted to see just the mesh, but I accidentally clicked on the Solve button, which looks like a power button. Since the solving process has already started, you can review the analysis results as follows. The deformation currently observed is at this level, but if you click on the animation function and select Show Animation, we have set it to pull in this direction.

Bending did not occur, and now only tensile forces have developed. First, please click on the animation again. Then, regarding other aspects of the results, please review the displacement in the contour. You may also want to examine the stress in the elements you have observed. If you are in explorer mode, you can quickly check the results as we modify the model for more complex shapes. When you click on this direction, it seems a bit inconvenient since it was a different component. However, if we replace it, in order to apply a load downward on this surface, we need to add one more boss in the axial direction, then select this surface.

Now, if you select this axis again, you can input a force in the direction of that axis, meaning you can apply a component, or force, along that direction. This part can be a bit inconvenient, but when you apply a load in the negative downward direction, and now turning off the current model, we will analyze this part again after applying the stress. Since we applied the load in the negative direction, it seems that the only thing that changed is the direction being downward along the y-axis. Let's proceed with the analysis once more. The analysis is complete, and this time, if we take a look at the animation again, we would like to see the excessively deformed shape. However, I may not know all the functions, but you can confirm the deformation as shown in the animation.

If you are trying to interpret this to this extent, then if you have executed it anyway, there is no need for you to utilize Discovery. It seems that multi-physics is currently not applicable to structural analysis, but it appears to work together with thermal analysis. It seems that electromagnetic analysis might also be possible, but in any case, please note that fluid-structure interaction analysis cannot be conducted with Discovery. 

Additionally, if you click on the maximum and minimum position, you will see that the position is represented by a red triangle, and this part is expressed with an icon as shown. It seems that values are not displayed simultaneously with static structures, and this aspect appears to be something you look at when conducting flow analysis. In the case of particles, we conducted flow analysis.
