everyone sitting bolt upright in their seats, all looking forward. The silence in this classroom is uncanned. It's rare for a secondary school class to be this silent, and yet here in this room, you could hear a pin drop. I'm feeling hella nervous, and that's because it's results day. We have done this like set of big tests. I can't remember exactly what, but there sat our teacher on the desk, legs crossed, and he had his hand over a stack of papers, our papers, our results. And he's deliberately taking his time, glancing his eyes over each and every one of us, indulging in our fear. And after a moment, he smirks. What could that mean? A million different thoughts start entering my mind. And then he breaks the silence. That's disappointing test for most, blood is not ominous. And so he goes around handing out the tests. I hear groans and laughter, and it's not the laughter where you're feeling like, Yay, I did so well. It's kind of like that laughter you do when you did so bad that

the only reaction that you can do is to laugh. I hear the numbers of 30%, 40% being thrown around and I realized, oh [__], this test was like proper bad. He stands in front of me and he no as as glasses, a little my heart's like practically pounding right now in my chest. Second best, not bad. A huge weight feels like it's been lifted off my shoulders, taunting me for no reason like what, 85% not bad. Mil was better than anyone else, like I doubled most people's grades and I comfortably cleared the boundary for the top grade, the grade n the a star St. I let myself smile as I feel the tension dissolve away. I'm kind of proud of myself, but no one else in the room looks happy. That's weird. Didn't he say I got second best, so why is no one else happy? Where's the guy who got first? And then I see it in the corner of the room, there sits a boy like he's

pretty quiet, no one really talks to him that much. He was one of those, like, quiet introverted kids, kind of like me but on another level. And I look over, I like glance over my shoulder, and I'm like trying to see his test paper. I see the number 98% bro. He cooks, but strangely the owner of that test has his head in his hands and he looks so, so disappointed. He genuinely looks like he's fighting demons in his head, like full anime head in hands, like oh my life is over, I'm cooked type of vibe. And I'm genuinely scared to even talk to him because he looks like he's about to kill someone. And there's kind of like a mean RI off, oh I'm so gashed I got 60% but there's always Adrian who got 99%, and he always complains. And back then I scoffed as well. I was like, bro 98%, that's insane. Like why are you even crying? Like shut up, like you're not that.

guy, you're not that guy. But now it all makes sense. This might be the single reason why you've been an average student. Like, no offense, you've been an average student. You're not getting the results that you want. Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, the richest person in the world, reported last year to have made 7.9 million per hour. Per hour. And that's ridiculously high, right? Most people dream to make that amount in like their lifetime, and bro literally makes that in an hour. But for him, imagine, like, one day he wakes up and he checks that hour, he only made 3 million. He would be devastated. Alarm bells would start ringing. We would think, 3 million an hour, are you kidding, man? Bro, like, if I made that in a year, I'd retire. The point is, for him, his alarm bells would be ringing because that's like more than half his salary gone. Like, something's like crazy happened. He'd be panicking, right? And that's because his level of normal, his

level of complacency alarm Bell like trigger. Like if it goes below this level for like an average person, that might be they make less than 40-50k. And this is American Standards, right? So like just bear with me for the analogy. That might might be the level. But for him, his normal is 7.9 million an hour. So anything that goes below that d s alarm bells for him. Successful students just have a higher level of okay. Their level of complacency is just higher than yours. Since I know I normally get nines, which is an AAR. Start whenever I get an eight in tests, I genuinely feel disappointed in myself. I feel distraught and my day is ruined because I got eight in that test. Feels cocky and like you guys might not understand. But like that's just the truth. I'm I'm not trying to like boast or anything. But I genuinely feel so [ __ ] and I feel stupid. It's cuz my definition of success and failure is different from your definition of success failure.

whenever you see that person being like, Oh, I got 98%, like, gosh darn, I still got 100 sure. Like, there may be that guy who just tries to like flex and just says that for like the sake of it, but it is all about your baseline, your norm. Imagine, like, what the... imagine that guy, like, he's probably Asian. I don't actually remember 'cause this was a while ago. Imagine that like Asian, like Chad, like introverted kid in the back of the room who got 98% that day. And imagine, like, some anime. Yeah, we're talking anime terms, but him and like the dumbest person in the class, the person who got like 20%, they switched personas. They had the same like mentor and everything. They just switch bodies. The dumb kid would go into his body, he'd see his test score, Damn, I got 9%. That's absolutely insane. He normally gets 20, so this is crazy. But because that's so insane to him, so above his level, he'd see that as an amazing.

accomplishment. So, he would have studied, he'd be okay seeing his grade drop to 95% because that's still amazing for him. Even 90%, 80%, that's all still fine. He's still getting the top grade. If, say, he didn't study, he went out partying like the Asian guy's body, all the wrong decisions, and he started getting like even 50% test, that would still be amazing for that guy because that's like more than double what he usually gets. But conversely, for the Asian guy and the dumb kid's body, he'd see the 20%, he'd flip out, right? Like, what the hell, 20%? That's what, what would he do? He'd literally go home, and he'd study his ass off. He'd study and study and study because he has to get that up back to where his norm is, his comfort zone back to like the 80s, 90%, at least. It's all about your level of norm. If Mr. Beast theoretically, let's say, he gave me his

channel was like, Oh bro, I'm going on holiday for like a month. Can you look after my channel for me? Firstly, I go on his YouTube analytics and I like being all at all of his statistics. Oh wow, this guy makes like a million a month on YouTube. His views are like 100 million. What the hell? That'd be all amazing because right now my video gets even like 100 K views. Like, I'd be so so gassed and so I wouldn't mind if a video got 50 mil, 20 mil, 10 mil. I don't really care. And for me, that would be normal. So I wouldn't have the ambition, the urge to go further than that because my level of norm, like it's higher than most people's. 'Cause I user with 100K subscribers. But even then, if he gain my channel, I tank his channel. It'll die, right? Alex hosi said this quote and it's a banger. Setting a goal is like having a contract with yourself to be dissatisfied until you have what you want. Complacency

you setting the bar too low might be the entire reason that you're an average student. That you're not where want to be. Let me tell you a quick story. In the UK, we have this thing called coursework, and it's basically a collection of five essays that you do for English language and literature that make up 40% of your grade. Your teacher marks this before the actual like written exam, and so you can lock in like theoretically up to 40% of your test beforehand. It sounds like really magical, right? Everyone said it's student Le, and most classes like their teacher guides them along the way. They give them the title to follow, and it's all like fun and games. So our class, though, our teacher, we did something different. Instead of taking us by the hand and guiding us, bro literally didn't tell us anything for the whole 2 years. He just told us choose your own essay topic, and he did read them like once or twice to make sure that we were actually doing it and we weren't going off topic.

but since like the grening day started to come around, and all the other classes were like, oh yeah, like my teacher said I'm predicted like a 27 hour 30 or 25 hour 30, and we were starting to panic because we had no indication. Classes like throughout the Journey of the course, they were told, oh, this is at like 20 hour 30 right now, these things, it could go up to like 25, they knew where they were, but for us, I had no idea if I was writing a level like 10 hour 30, 20 30, like we had no indication, so we had no choice but to put our all into it. Even after we thought we were done, we had to go again and again and again because I had no idea how good this was, was I even doing it right. And at the end of the grading session, after he marked all our things, and the day way he was going to give her back our results, we were seeing there like, T right, this is a different result today from the.

introduction analogy. But the point is, like this was recently, everyone in our class got either 119 out of 120 because it's like four sets of 30 or 120 out of 120. So, we all either got 99% or 100%, and that's never ever been seen before, getting like 90% Plus in your course is seen as a major thing, and all of us basically got 100%. Isn't that crazy if you think about why? It's because we weren't complacent. If you had told us, like this is what he said, if you had told us, like, Oh, this is at like 27 out 30, 26 out of 30, like that's already like in the '90s for a lot of us, we'd have thought, like, Oh, 90%, that's for calm, like I won't do anymore, and we'd have just set that bar as okay because he had never set the bar, he had never set the ceiling for us. We went above, he told us.

like some of our essays were like beyond perfect. Like, he said even though it's out 30, like some of them would be like 35 out of 30. If you set a bar like of your okayness, if you're okay with C's, if you're okay with something, you're not going to accidentally go above that. You can imagine if a B is good for you, you're not going to go accidentally above that. Like most of the time, you're going to be below it. So why not set the bar as high as you can and like the alexic qu, like setting a goal is making a promise to yourself to be dissatisfied until you reach the goal. Obviously, if you're like normally getting like 20-30-40%, saying the goal of like getting 100% is ridiculous, but the point is you should always constantly be pushing your bath. Kaizen is a Japanese philosophical like, uh, term thing that basically means wherever you're at, be do 1% better each time. The moment you lose your hunger, you

lose your drive, your motivation to do just a bit better. That's when you become complacent, and you just become an average student. Just ask yourself, what are some standards that you've set as just normal, as okay for you, but maybe they actually aren't okay. It applies for a lot of things. When I first started my YouTube channel, 300 views was amazing, right? If I had always kept that like 300 views threshold as my okayness, I wouldn't strive to make better videos. Because then like if 300 views okay, I just make a video that's worth 300 views. Same for the test. If you're aiming for like 60% because that's what you normally get and that's just what you're okay at, reprogram that. Find that belief and then change it. Because the moment that you start to tell yourself, Today I got 60%, that's cool, but I want to get 65 next, you keep pushing that, pushing that, pushing that. That's what makes you a top student. Because once you have the goal

and you're constantly dissatisfied. Dissatisfaction is good because you're dissatisfied. It's because you want more. That's what motivates you to do the action that will get you there. There's another quote which talks about aim high hit low. For me, my threshold is like in the 90th percentile. Right, so even if I fail and I get an eight, I aim high but I hit low. That eight is still above 99% of the country's average grade. The higher your standards are like Jeff Bezos, Mr. Beast, like everyone like we talked about aim as high as you can and then even if you fail subjectively that's bad for me but objectively it's not that bad. My failure level is still above most people's success level and this is the secret to success as a student but not just studying in anything. Imagine if Jeff Bezos once he hit like 100K per hour that's that's crazy as well right most people don't make 100K in a year imagine if he just

got complet was like this is enough to like live like happy life for the rest of my life and retire everyone. I love get a massive house like a lot of us would like genuinely. We'd stop at that right but then if he had done that Amazon wouldn't exist. He'd have become a wealthy man but he would have become the wealthiest in the world. We want to be the best student right. You don't want to be like the third best 10th best student. So then always be hungry always push. The worst regret you can have is you're at the Finish Line. You finish the race this is like metaphorically could be exams could be school whatever and the worst regret you can have is that at the end of the Finish Line you realize you could have run more keep pushing that people might call this unhealthy and whatever but is it really unhealthy if that point say you are you're always dissatisfied and you want a bit more for yourself cuz people you can literally look around people who admire celebrities people are

good at what they do. Successful students I know, this, like my friends. Everything, it's about pushing yourself, and your environment affects as heavily as well. You're the average of The Five People You spend time with. I remember in Primary School, some, like even the smart people in primary school, we did like the absn music exams, right? And they would considered really difficult because they are a lot of the time. We don't need just pass so you can pass there and this distinction we always just normally pass. And because unconsciously, like the people around me, I see that they normally fail but sometimes they pass. I was like damn when I pass that's really good, like that's what I thought. But as soon as I went into Secondary School, everyone around me, because this was like a really good school, right? Everyone around me was getting distinctions easily. And so I was like unconsciously, my mind, something clicks. My bar used to be here at past but suddenly it was here. And so obviously I had to do the action to compensate that but because I had the

hunger the people around me. You're the average of the five people spend with because they were all like distinction level. I had to like make myself push myself up there and so now anything below as distinction like genuinely. I'll put some up on screen for my grade eight which is the highest grade you can do. I got distinction because that's just the level that's the place where my bar is and I really hope this video helped you because this is like genuinely something that changed my Paradigm for everything YouTube studying gym Etc.
