I just finished a blasting session of tier 17 maps, and knew I had to discuss them right here and now. I did about 10 in a row, back to back, on my crappy bleed lacerate Gladiator, and they went mostly well. But after doing these 10 right in a row, I realize that there are still a few things that Grinding Gear Games could definitely do to improve the map play quality. And I'm not really going to discuss a lot of the loot issues here, and the farming strategies, and the different ways you can earn currency and the like, because I'm not really involved in any of that. I'm talking only about the feel of the maps as someone who's playing them to literally play them, not to farm them, just to play the content, fight the bosses, get some cool loot, get some extra Shaper Guardian, Elder Guardian, other Guardian maps, and extra currency. That's the perspective that I'm talking from here today. So in the background are going to be some of those runs where I'm just going.

through you can see me dying. I have the six portal strategy. Of course, I rolled them to the best of my ability, and I went in, and I did them all myself. So let's first talk about the first two glaring issues that I see remaining with tier 17 maps and path out. And the first one, honestly, it's simple. It's the monster quirks. Yeah, seriously. All the monsters in tier 17 maps are rather unique. Okay, there are map bosses that appear as regular packs. There are monsters that usually don't appear in other areas of Poe in there. There are notoriously deadly monsters like revenants that are appearing all throughout. And I'd like to talk about two of those monsters in particular, and one of them I just mentioned, are the revenants. They still have the old detonate dead or some version of it still in the game, and that is what killed me 9 out of 10 times. Every single time I found myself dying in these first few runs on Abomination, it was the Revenant insta-killing me.

with the old detonate dead. Why is this still in the game? I'm not too sure. Please, uh, uh, oh, it makes me so mad, but that pissed me off, and I can't believe that it's still in the game. And then the other monster are the burrowing crabs that seem to terrain block you. So if I have leap slam or Frost bling, I can't use it when they're burrowed underground and blocking me somehow. There's some body blocking going on there, and it's just a lot of the monsters in these Maps. A lot of the mechanics are very quirky, and they can double down on that most definitely. But I think if they made a few minor alterations to the way that these monster quirks occur and how just jarring they feel when you actually play the map, it would improve many players' experiences in tier 17s, including mine. Now issue number two, it's a little bit more jarring than this one, and it's just the huge swings that you see based on your Atlas passive skill tree and the

mods on your map. So, what am I talking about? Well, most of us, when we're on the Atlas passive skill tree, we are specking into increasing the modifier values of map mobs. We are growing those explicit modifiers by massive numbers, trying to get more quantity and rarity on our maps and the like. And even though we do spec into various mechanics on each of our three Atlas passive skill trees, most of the time, we're taking all those mods as well to really juice our maps to the maximum potential. Well, that causes us to run into some issues based on the map modifiers found on tier 17 maps. One of the Abomination maps that I ran, I rolled a mod that I thought would be totally fine with my last rate Gladiator build. Turned out it was absolute trash. It was the reduction of area of effect, and it turned my lacerate into a just, you know, it was that big. It was a tiny pizza slice. It was horrible. I had to get right up on top of monsters, and it didn't have any AOE, so I couldn't

clear any packs, even the boss monsters. I was like missing them. It was horrendous, and it was only so bad because it was combined with all those stacking explicit modifier increases from my Atlas passive skill tree. And that happens with all sorts of the modifiers that you see here, the map modifiers on tier 17's that pool still bricks a variety of builds, and it's super unfortunate that you need to essentially have an atlas passive skill tree that doesn't Speck into those. If your build isn't strong enough, you have to Speck out of those nodes, go into other nodes, maybe just even have a blank tree that you can use when you go into tier 17s. But at that point, What's even the effect of having Atlas passive skill trees affect t7? But we'll talk about that in a brief moment. So those are the two huge problems that I see on going from just a basic casual player perspective, and I think if those were solved, that would help t7s massively. The monsters need to have a second look at them and the map.

modifiers and the way the atlas passives interact with them, and how you have to roll with chaos ORS over and over and over for certain bells, needs to be looked at. How exactly though can they solve these problems? Well, the first one is very simple: do a pass of the monsters. Seriously, I hate that DD in its old form is still in T7s. Just conform it across the board or change the way it works. Remove the monsters, add some new, more difficult monsters, and don't use the cheap detonate dead mechanic in tier 17s, please. Killed me so many times. I love the boss fights in tier 17 maps. I love the thrill of popping these massive monster packs and actually fighting some challenging encounters leading up to the boss battle and getting lots of rewards for that. I'm a huge fan, but I don't like being cheaply killed by this effect that should be gone from the game. Put in some other crazy difficult monsters. Seriously, why don't you bring back the old Beyond mobs? Get me Zotos and Hi and all those.

crazy creatures and a back of just bring a back of and I'm totally fine with that but take away detonate dead please please please please and number two the matap modifiers and the atlas passive skill tree and the like. It's a very simple solution here in my perspective. It's just not allowing Atlas passive skill trees to affect tier 17 maps and this one would solve my problem where it just bricks builds entirely right and then two from all the reading that I've done with the various tier 16 tier 17 map farming debacles and how you can't make currency unless you're playing T 17s which is totally false by the way. I'm just speaking from a casual player's perspective. I'm making lots in t16s doing totally fine. Have only done about 15 Tier 17s at this point. It would solve a lot of that I think because of tier 17 maps weren't affected by the atlas passive skill tree and their main reason to be run were the Uber boss fragments that would make t6s valuable.

again, and it would put a lot more power into the hands of the players whose builds could not reliably easily run tier 17 maps. It would solve a lot of people's frustrations, not just my own. So, I think that might need to be a move that is made, or just once again, maybe tone down some of the map modifiers instead. I don't know, they really seem like they want to double down on the difficulty here with some of these map modifiers, so I don't know if that's a possibility. Maybe the way to go is just to completely remove the atlas passive skill tree from affecting t17 maps. That's what I think. What do you think? Please let me know in the comments below.
