[Music] Welcome and thank you for tuning in. You're listening to the Beyond 50 radio program. I'm Daniel Davis. On the program, we're going to talk about a self-healing practice. It's a meditative form of movement simply called Tai Chi Chi. It's a series of 19 movements, one closing pose to circulate and balance one's life force energy called Chi throughout the body. It's gentle and easy for most people to do. Many practitioners have noticed health benefits from doing Tai Chi Chi regularly. I'd like to welcome to Beyond 50 radio program today our guest, Victoria Mo Galena. Victoria, thank you for joining us around the program today. Thank you. It's very nice to be here. Thank you for having me. You bet. Now let's talk about what Tai Chi Chi is. Tai Chi Chi is a form of Tai Chi and there are 19 movements, and it's done with opening the circulation. It's evidence-based mindfulness. So as you're working with it, it opens up the blockages in the body and it stimulates

the energy or the Chi to improve circulation and balance, and it improves mentally, physically, and spiritually all aspects of one's life. What makes it different that with tai chi cha, you could literally do one or two moves a day and we energize yourself. It's a form of Qigong, so the effects are immediate. You don't have to wait like with Tai Chi Chuan in order to get the benefits. So you can practice and do it in sitting or standing. Now let's talk about how this actually affects the body. Well, how it affects the body is it opens up the neuromuscular, so it improves circulation, and the body is comprised of what are called meridians. I'm a doctor for Chinese medicine, and what I notice as I do this, I haven't been sick for about 20 years very much, and it gives peace of mind, and it allows the body to start to heal from the inside out because all disease is caused from stress or distress or lack of circulation. And as you do the movements.

with Tai Chi, you bring balance emotionally, physically, and spiritually. And myself, being a doctor of Chinese medicine, I have noticed tremendous effects in my own life, and I love doing it. I never get bored with it. So you describe some of the benefits of Tai Chi. How did you first get involved with this? What kind of guided you in this direction? I met a teacher in Laguna Beach where I was from, and basically fell in love with it. And I like the fact that it's simple and easy, and it can be done sitting or standing. Originally, Tai Chi Chuan was a form of martial arts, and this is a meditative type of Tai Chi, so it's perfect for seniors, which is what I teach a lot of. And it's perfect with the aging process, or even if you're younger, it helps with focus, that helps with just bringing that balance internally to all aspects of your life. And as I said, I noticed the energy. I've been working with the energy ball for since I was five years old, and I've noticed that incredible sense of

harmony within my own life. Now, as you've taught this to other people, what has been their experience? Their experience has been lowering blood pressure, boosting the immune system, balance. You know, when I look at balance, I look at mental balance, physical balance, and spiritual balance. If it's practiced regularly, you'll notice coming home and feeling younger, feeling rejuvenated from the inside out. Everything has to do with circulation, and as you circulate the energy, that helps mentally. You know, as far as memory goes, it helps with allowing yourself to begin to renew at the cellular level, and the dendrites send the message to the brain. So, when the brain starts to relax, the body starts to heal, and it helps to give negativity, which is a very important part of our life today. As we let go, we can feel that sense of internal calm, and that's what people have told me over the years. I've been doing this for about 25-30 years. Wow, that's amazing to think of those kind of benefits, especially when you say doctors say, you know, about

95 percent of the people that come in to see them actually have something that's related to stress, and they could just reduce that. What about the church? Yeah, that's the biggest thing today is stress, and with what's happening in the public eye. As you go within, you start to begin to heal, and you know when you can begin to allow yourself to heal. Doctors are recommending it for arthritis, for blood pressure, for all kinds of symptoms, and breathing is the key. The more we breathe, the more we open up circulation and change negative patterns within our life. You know, let's let go and let God, and there's two points that are so nice. The bottom of the feet is called bubbling spring, which is a kidney point, so it opens up the kidney energy, which is beautiful because the kidney controls the bones, it controls the back, it controls your brain, it controls your ears. So every time you're rocking, you're stimulating that kidney one, and then the top of the head is called point of a thousand petals oldest, so in Chinese

medicine. We talk about our feet on the ground and our head in the clouds. And what that does, it literally opens up the conception birding going up the midline, the governor, and going up the back. If people understood the benefits of Tai Chi, it's an internal workout. So every time you do it, you're replenishing at the sole cellular level. And there are no harmful effects. Like, I love yoga, but for certain people, certain positions are difficult. With the Tai Chi, there are no contraindications. Now, I'm, I heard you talk about breathing. Now, obviously, this is a very important aspect to this. Yes, it is. It's very important when breathing in and then letting go, you know. And as you breathe, you open up the central nervous system. You relax the brain because everything is about tensioned stress, holding on. And as you begin to let go, the body opens up the capillaries, it opens up the brain, you know, and it opens up all of your circulatory system. And breathing is the key. Without breathing, you're dead.

know, the more you can breathe, breathing in a positive thought and breathing out a negative thought. And I try to practice, I'm still working on my own breathing too, but the more that I can focus on that, the more that I can start to heal and let go. Now, I'm curious how it affects the immune system. I understand that that's actually a great benefit to doing this, absolutely. Well, the lung meridian starts underneath the collarbone and it goes down, and it's called wei energy or protective energy in Chinese medicine. So, when you're opening up the breathing and you're breathing into the lung, which is the upper don tien, which is called the upper part of this area storage, you're breathing into what's called within the breast, which is between the nipples, and then the lower don tien, which is the sea of energy, which is two fingers below your navel. So, as you focus with that, you boost the immune system, you enrich the blood, and you open up the circulatory system. So, people who are having problems with the

immune system. This will start to replenish you at the cellular level, and doing it outdoors is wonderful. We're going to do it by the lake. I'm up here today in Pinetop, so we're going to go out and do it by the lake today because when you're in nature, everything heals. Unfortunately, we are so depleted or feel deficient, and we need to be able to spend time in nature. Nature is what heals us. That definitely makes a heck of a lot of sense too, and I don't think enough people actually spend the kind of time they need to when, you know, being out in nature to actually feel the healing properties of something like that. Now, we need water energy, we need air energy, we need to put our head in the clouds and our feet on the earth. There's so much stress going on in the world, and when we can just come home to our soul and replenish, then we're good for others. But most people are walking around starving for help, and as we're starving, you can't

take care of another person. To you, take care of yourself first, and no amount of money is going to pay for that. You know, it's the outdoors, it's being natural, and eliminating things in your life that you no longer need. You know, your most important ingredient is love, and the Tai Chi opens you for self-love and nourishment. It opens you to bring in nature and to replenish and help to get rid of toxins. And when I talk about toxins, I'm talking about mental pollution as well as physical. Each meridian has an emotion, so the kidney is about letting go of fear, and fear is rampant today, you know. So as we let go of that, we can begin to be comfortable with ourselves. And the affirmation that I enjoy the best, I am the best, and realize who's driving your bus, who's driving your body, who's driving you. Is it spirit, or is it get-get-get? And the more we take in, the more we have to let go. So learning to let go is critical in our world today.

really, very little matters in the end. What matters is how you feel because when you're feeling good, you can make wise decisions. When you're feeling toxic, that nothing won't work. Talk about meridians. What are those? Inherently, Meridian is like a river that runs up and down the body. So, everything in Chinese medicine is metaphorical. So, if you can visualize little rivers running up and down your body, that's a Meridian. It sends a message to the brain. And when it's clogged, that's when you get the name of diseases such as cardiovascular, nervous system, anxiety, stress. And each meridian, as you work with it with the Tai Chi, you're helping to replenish the blood. You're helping to clear the blockages. And you're helping those rivers to get rid of stagnation. Most of us have stagnation one form over another, a bad relationship, a bad job, trying to achieve too much. And as you can just take a deep breath and stop, realize that you are important. And what's nice is that when you do one

two move them today you literally open the pathways stimulate the body and allow the body to heal from the inside out and that's my job as a doctor. As well as working with the whole person and I've been doing this for about 30 years and it's helped keep me together over the years. You know it's my form of natural medicine because no pill is going to take the place of nature. No pill is going to take the place of you taking charge of your life and when you start to do that you'll start to heal and realizing that you're important. You know nobody's going to give that to you if you don't give it to yourself. I'm curious what it's meant by what's known as softness and continuity. The softness has to do with the neuromuscular. It has to do with being gentle with the movements is how you're working that your balance is good. You open up in the neuromuscular system and you're just very gentle in the continuity is taking

each movement, allowing yourself to be soft with the movements so that the energy can flow through you. When you're stiff, nothing will flow. So, as you'll allow yourself to be soft in focus, and this is a method for your whole life. How much do you yield? How much do you open? When you're hard, you basically stop new things from coming in. And when you're soft, you open up. You allow the energy to move, and you allow yourself to surrender. And the movements are specifically designed to open that body-mind connection, which is just so important. So, the peacefulness, the calm, the sense of that knowing you're important, is all part of softness when you're working with it. Now, I'm sure because of the health benefits that I've heard from you about doing this, is that certainly energy must be something that is a really wonderful benefits as well. Tell us about that. Well, basically, when you're dealing with energy, you have to look at mental energy, physical, and spiritual. And as you do the movements, what you're doing is

increasing their flow of energy. And you have a storage point called the Dan Tien, which is below the navel. So as you open and work with that and work with the feet opening the energy and the legs, you're basically grounding yourself. You're basically working with mental, you know, so that your body has a sense of clarity, that sense of focus and intention is really important. You know, I've learned your intention for your life, where you headed, what are you doing. And when you take a spiritual practice and commit yourself to doing it every day. What's nice about Chi Chi chives that can be done in a small space. So I have an office in Old Town Scottsdale where I teach and where I also give classes and do my private practice. So I work with the whole person when I'm doing that. So it's called total rejuvenation Center in Old Town Scottsdale Arizona. Now you've worked with a lot of people obviously and what does some of the most consistent feedback that you've heard from people who

decided to engage in his practice. The most consistent feedback that I've had is that it works. They feel that sense of balance. They're able to walk better. They're able to draw a continuity. They have a sense of peace of mind that they haven't encountered so much. They have a sense longevity of feeling good inside themselves. And when you feel good, miracles can happen. When you don't feel good in your depleted, nothing can happen. So working from the inside cellular level allows you to work with the whole person. When you're working with that idea, neck very important. Now, how can people connect with you and find out more about this kind of work and how they can sir have to get started? for about ten years, we started with about six people, and now we have about forty people in class, which is pretty amazing. So, I love what I do. The reason why I do is because it works. You know, when people ask me, Does it work? I say, Well, I'm still pretty balanced, and I'm still working. And you know, I'm like 72 or something, and I'm still very active in my life, running a full-time acupuncture practice and doing this. And it gives. I'm also doing it with parents and children right now too, so they can and do a little bit of it as well because I'm committed to children, you know, it's a wonderful tool for bonding with the family, absolutely. It seems to me this would be something doctors would incorporate into their practice as a suggestion for, you know, people who want to actually reverse a lot of things and actually heal and feel much better about things. Mm-hmm. Yeah, if you're going through emotional stress through a divorce, through an accident, through migraines, through breathing difficulties, cardiovascular.

opens up all the bodies on the inside: the mental body, the physical, the spiritual. And if we have this as a regular practice, think about how much more your world, your life would work. And doctors are very interested in helping their patients, so this is a wonderful tool for doctors to be able to use. Well, thank you. Yeah, it sounds like a great thing people should be engaged in, you know, at least in it. So, as you were saying, it's something that you can learn to do. It doesn't sound like it's very difficult at all. I know it's simple and it's easy. And I teach and I'm available for private and I do retreats. So, people are welcome to come and spend the weekend with me. I do weekend retreats through my house, so people can stay. A person can stay there. I'm really committed to taking a person to nature, to healing from the inside out, and allowing you to have a tool that you can use for the rest of your life. The main thing is that you're not dependent upon

a practitioner but you can learn to use it for yourself and your family, and to stay well and be well. You know, the family that stays together and plays together stays together. So, I look at what can you do for yourself at the cellular level that will make a difference in your life, and that's my job, and that's what I'm here to do.
