What's up, everyone? Got some crazy rains in New York City today. It's Friday, September 29th, 2023. Our time is about one o'clock P.M., 61 Fahrenheit, 16 Celsius, and this is some crazy downpours right now. The governor has declared a state of emergency, and they're advising people to stay home unless it's absolutely necessary to travel or to evacuate. But yeah, I'm not going too far from where I'm staying, but just wanted to show you what's going on here. A lot of subway lines are suspended right now, including the one coming up in a few blocks. NMW trains uneven bother putting on rain shoes or socks or anything because I know it's going to get wet anyway, but this is a story of Queens. I've seen some images and video of some rain and subway stations and in South Brooklyn home in hand. They have rivers and places. I didn't even bring my stabilizer out because I don't want that electronics to get wet. They're just using my tripod.

look at this, folks. This is 30th Avenue in Astoria. They got these school buses here, these poor children stuck at school with the rain, and there's a lot of people right now stuck at their jobs and can't get home because they have no transportation to get back. And in weather like this, you shouldn't drive unless you have to because the news, of course, was saying that one of the most dangerous activities you can do is people getting flooded in their cars and you know, float over to a river. It doesn't even take that much water, like a quarter to two of water, and the carpet floats and brings you to a stream of water and it'll make it that much harder for emergency services to get you. I haven't seen rain in New York City this much in a while, and this is just after New York City went through tropical storm Ophelia. Longer than Ophelia, we got dc322, lots of flooding, subway bus service, they're not running. I'm going to show you the subway station right now.

We're a block away from it. I don't think there's any subway line going in Queens into Manhattan right now. I just, I just [Music] our Constructor. It's shaky because I didn't bring my stabilizer out because I'm raining like this. Stabilizer is going to get wet. I could try to put it on wide angle. It helps to mitigate the shakiness a little bit. Thank you. Look, there's people on the subway platform just waiting for a train, and I won't come go up and see if it's possible to take a train. Hey, there is a train coming 6 7. I don't know if it's true or not, but I checked the MTA website like 15 minutes ago, and the set is suspended. Well, if the trains are suspended, they're not stopping people from, oh, it is running, and I have a water spot on the main lens. Let me fix that for you, or is it this one? I still want to want to get on the train, though. I don't want to risk getting

stuck, but this is the situation right now inside the subway station. It's Stephen flooded in here, and this is a conversation. Look at this [Music]. The station is saying that the trains are loading, those empty saying it's running, but the website says there's not [Music]. What to believe, but regardless, I'm not taking the train [Music]. [Music]. It kind of feels like the lane is lightening up, but every now and then the heavy rains will

come back, and even if you look at the weather bands, the rain clouds will just keep regenerating over the city. So, Evan says some of them said partial closure, so maybe it's just sexually little one you have to get out and transfer. Yeah, but it's not very convenient, especially if you're somebody who lives in the outer boroughs and needs to get into Manhattan. Like, uh, for example, the D train says it's part suspended, but it's stopping at 34th Street Harold Square. I've been going further south, but I would advise people if they don't need to go out today to travel far, don't do it, stay in, or if you have to go out, stay local if you can. [Applause] Because this is a life-threatening weather right now. [Applause] We have Bob Kish MTA website saying that show North North service is severely destructive. I was looking at the Long Island Railroad to Long Island Railroad that's running close to schedule, so that's an option to get into the city.

If you live in Brooklyn or Queens, you'll be circling a block a long time if you don't have a driveway or you park. Yeah, I know a lot of people, they do that. There's no dedicated space on their property, so they need to do street street parking and not going to be a big task to do every day.

The trains aren't running they're stuck at their jobs. There's many lines that are suspended or part suspended, and several have extensive delays. Since you uh mentioned the subway, I'm gonna walk over to the Steinway Street Station, which is about a block and a half away, and we'll check the situation on that um station if the trains are running there. Yeah Cliff, I saw that the R Train wasn't running either. I think water is one of the Subway's worst enemies because if you think about it, a lot of the subway is on the ground, and water can seep in at any point [Music]. It's got nyp traffic out here barbell man. You couldn't make it to work because of this. Oh, that's terrible. Thankfully, it seems that the rain is

lightening up. I hope it um lightens up even more and comfortably stops. I think more of the flooding happened in South Brooklyn and parts of Manhattan. Also, the subway system is getting severely impacted by this storm. you this is an unbelievable amount of rain. Like just when we had a relief from tropical storm or tropical depression Ophelia, another storm comes up. And I think they were saying eight inches total is going to fall in New York City from this rain. And Julie says this is like the continuation of the storm. Look at these brave souls sharing an umbrella. Thank you. Choxicologist says this is set to be one of the wettest Septembers for New York City on record. I wouldn't be surprised if it's the wettest just with this one storm alone. Thank goodness the sewer is working good. Unfortunately though, the sewer plants, they won't have the equipment or the resources needed to treat all the water that's going in. This is an absolute crazy amount of water going into the sewer system. It's just going to be dumped right into the river along with all the garbage and waste. So this is the uh Steinway Street subway station. Oh wait, it's over there past this construction site. [Music] Thank you.

well, good job on the MCA for keeping up the service for as good as they can because earlier there's many trains that weren't running. It's not perfect; you got water dripping from the ceiling and that's on the platform too. Here comes the train, let's see how busy it is. I'm surprised considering there was an emergency alert today and they told people to stay home, but people have to be places so the trains are running right now or at least the R Train is. Let me check the website because when we're at the 30th Avenue Station they said the trains weren't running. Okay, look at this now. I'll wait till the train leaves. So now it's part suspended. Let's see what's going on with the R Train and suspended in Brooklyn. R Trains are running between Forest Hills and Whitehall Street. We're addressing heavy flooding. In other words, you got to be a genius to figure out the subway system now. That's what the announcement said. Use this train to get to this place instead. Use

that train because this is flooded. Look at this end. Train is suspended in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and trains are running only between Astoria Ditmars Boulevard and Queensborough Plaza. So um, if you're in Astoria, the R Train is an option to get to Manhattan, but not the end train. All right, let's go outside, but good to see that the trains are running again. At least the R Train is going to Manhattan. Actually um, I have to stay enough of the MCA here. I know a lot of people like to bash it, but they're doing the best they can to get the water out of the system and run the trains. And the R Train should actually stand for Reliable this time, not R for rarely comes. Trains rerouted, part suspended, service changes, no M. This is crazy today. Sometimes the employees, they don't even know if the trains are running or not if you ask them because information, it changes so quickly. JB says the R Train is rain trained today. Well, actually, the R Train is usually very reliable, I find, even though

it comes slowly um. It's one of the lines that I almost completely on the ground. And when there's high winds, the MTA will occasionally stop the end trains from running, which is an elevated train, and the R Train will continue to run. Oh my gosh, it is raining even more now. [Music] Let's see what's going on Broadway. Look at this. This is a Long Island Railroad maintenance equipment. I don't know how many days it's going to take for New York City to recover from all this rain, but it's not going to be an easy process. I still don't know how long it's going to take to get a contractor up on the roof to fix the um all the leaks in my place, and um I don't even think it's going to be possible because our leak is relatively minor compared to what other people have to deal with. [Music] foreign world one of the best streets in New York to visit and what are the best restaurants uh depends on what you want to see but as far as the average tourists Midtown Manhattan Times Square Financial District Statue of Liberty restaurants good gosh there's too many too many to list practically every Cuisine that you want is here so I'll leave that up to you even here in Astoria Queens there's Greek here the town here French Chinese Thai Indian you also got the chain restaurants too.

yeah, here's an Irish Pub, McLaughlin's. Oh, look at this, this traffic light is out, and it's such a busy intersection too. No, I said you should get here to put a traffic agent here to direct traffic because this is not good. The lights are blinking yellow and red, which means yield [Music], and case in point right there, there was just a road rage between a taxi driver and the van driver. You know why this happens? The traffic signals, the controller down here, probably all the rain gets in, shorts out the electronics. Crazy people forgot how to drive in the rain. You're at the street, this is the always stop when the lights are blinking like this. Thank you, I just want to wait here for a few minutes, see how people react to this traffic light being out. Emergency Services just went through there, a New York City Police Department car as well, which didn't stop. I guess it wasn't in their list of job descriptions today or duties, but hopefully, they send someone. Story [Music] Hey, look at this. We've got a leak in the subway, similar to the leak what I'm dealing with. I got a bucket like this underneath it too. It's obvious service is suspended. End train to Coney Island in 13 minutes, only running between Ditmars Boulevard and Kingsborough Plaza. So, you can't even get to Manhattan here. I guess the seven trains running into Manhattan though. You could transfer there. Extremely limited subway service. Chief Alegre 769 Euro. What's the worst thing that's ever happened to you while cycling? Not necessarily on video. Um, I've had an MCA public bus pass me within inches going at a fast rate of speed. That was pretty scary.

Several vehicles passed me within inches, and I'm terrified when I think about it. Extremely limited subway service. At least the R Train was running. You could be water. Yeah, that's another reason why I don't want to do it either. I mean, it could work in a small intersection, but that one I don't think I can do it. We're at the Broadway shopping plaza, which is where Bel Air Diner is located, the first restaurant featured in Kitchen Nightmares. Oh my gosh, they almost crossed the street and didn't see the car. Scott Freeze used to live in a basement apartment in Astoria, sort of, and then one in Regal Park later.

and it'll be floating right now. Oh gosh, funny enough, the day I visited Bel Air Diner after the episode, the day after the episode aired, it was also a rainy day. Foreign Broadway shopping plaza is busy, super busy now that I see it, and the rain is starting up again. Here's Bel Air Diner, made famous from Gordon Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, season eight, episode one, which aired on live TV on Monday. But now you can watch it on, uh, online on YouTube even. I saw you have to pay for it though, but um, it's not a nightmare anymore. They really renovated the designer to look amazing. The hamburger, a cheeseburger I got, was good, but you should have seen this place in the TV show. Gordon Ramsay just ripped this place apart. He called it a wasteland. The basement was beyond bad. He called the, uh, meat raw and ice cold, and the chicken was foaming at the mouth, and it was dead. Meat was in the basement for weeks. Yeah, it looks busy inside because people inside Bel Air

let's make it across this crosswalk before the light changes. Yeah, Dean and Emma actually said that with a few F words. I'll say it in Gordon Ramsay's words. This is [__] Raw ice cold was [__] Raw. Oh my God, even the chicken is foaming at the mouth and it's [__] dead. That's my best sport in Ramses uh impression. I mean that that was pretty horrible. When's the last time this kitchen's been cleaned? Don't tell me it's been a week. And then they grabbed a paper towel, put it over the range hood, all the oil came off, and he's like this place is seconds away from Burning Up in Flames. Shut it down, shut it down now. I mean, behind it now, Edwin. This is the East River. Oh, speaking of which, you know where I want to go. Let me turn this back to wide angle. Um, on the shoreline there, I think there's a discharge point for the sewer system. Maybe we can walk by there after Costco, see how much water is coming out of that pipe if we could see it. I think I'll skip Costco shopping for another time. I can only carry like one

or two items at most with one hand saber and says why is it so empty because oh it's empty because it's dangerous to be driving right now. People can get stuck. Look at this one's getting jumped. Let's check out this water discharge point, which is not too far away from here. I think it's still there, luckily. This street here, Vernon Boulevard, isn't flooded. However, it's like a little bit of a walk down here. The bike lane is flooded, and this is the risk of bringing your bike out too. I've done it before, and it's not really a pleasant experience to bike in the rain like this.

first of all, when you ride a bike, you have less traction because the tire doesn't grip the road as well, and you're also, I'll wait for this truck. There are also more flown to getting flat tires, and your bike also wears out a lot faster in the rain. So, when you get to your destination, it's best if you could put it in a dry place and wipe it down. Otherwise, that water is just gonna rust all the parts on your bike. Yeah, which is why sometimes, even though biking is a great idea, it may not be the most practical because, one, it's very weather-oriented. The hardcore bikers or bike no matter what kind of weather condition, but most cyclists, when it gets too cold or it's rainy or it's windy, whatever, they're not gonna bike. And um, that's not a sustainable method of transportation where this inclement weather like this, uh, taxologist, you simply just use a bike cover to cover my e-scooter whether it rains or not. During the wintertime, when the city puts road salt and all that salt gets on the bike, all that stuff, it corrodes all the parts. I remember riding my bike in the snow before, and at the end of the week, the chain was all brown and orange. [Music] That's why it's important. You gotta wipe the bike down, make sure all the moisture is off, and you have to oil the chain too or grease it. Okay, so we saw a lot of issues here today. Subways weren't running or were severely delayed, and Costco, the car battery needed a jump. The intersection was all messed up, and people weren't observing by the traffic light. Now we got some, what is going on here? It's got a waterfall. I don't know if this is any good for these, um, whatever this thing is underneath, but if it's what I think it is, and it's like powering this traffic light or whatever, it has electricity underneath, and that's pretty bad.
