[Music] In an age in which we have so much information at our fingertips, it's easy to wonder if we actually need professions at all. But in fact, it's precisely because we now have so much information and so many choices that we need professions more than ever. Choice overload actually makes it harder for us to make a decision when it comes to serious matters. This problem is complicated by not knowing who to trust. This is why there's a growing need for professionals with specialist expertise to help us make sense of it all. We can determine when people will need trusted expertise by looking at how much complexity, necessity, and risk is involved in a particular transaction. We know it's a very complex area, but we have to engage with it even though the risk of getting it wrong is high. This then increases the need for us to be able to find someone we can trust who has the expertise we need. So wherever we have a gap like this, we have a need for professions - people who have the

knowledge and expertise to help us navigate complex, necessary, and risky areas, and who are regulated in a way that builds our trust
