Hello and welcome to video number five of the beginner course for n8n. In this video, we'll be covering some core workflow concepts and continue building our first workflow together.

Let's start off by covering some important core workflow concepts that you'll need to understand before building your own workflows.

Here we have the canvas. So from the canvas, we can see the main workflow elements. Up here, we have the workflow menu, the name and tags associated with that workflow.

We have the workflow activation settings. Here we can also access the version history and workflow specific settings up in the top right corner.

In the middle, obviously, we have the nodes of the given workflow, and we have some Zoom settings to the bottom left.

Activating the workflow is what allows us to push a workflow to production and is what actually allows us to start using the workflow automatically.

We'll cover workflow activation a little bit later in n8n. And of course, in the Cannabis, we have the nodes which are going to be the building blocks, the atoms of our workflow.

The main workflow menu is where you'll find all the workflows of your n8n instance. You'll find information like tags and owners that you can filter on.

Um, you can also find all workflows of which you are the creator by clicking my workflows down here to see only workflows owned by you. You can create a workflow, and every time you do, you are going to be assigned as the default owner.

From the workflow setting, so to the top right of the canvas, we can access everything that has to do with workflow accessibility, as well as the error workflow and how workflow executions are saved.

Um, we'll be covering both error workflows and saved executions in video number seven.

Let's look at how nodes are connected and how we actually can create workflows.

Every workflow starts with a trigger node. You can recognize them by the fact that they only have an output branch, as you can see here, and they have the orange lightning icon next to them.

A workflow can have multiple different triggers, multiple of the same trigger, or multiple different triggers for more complex use cases.

And the trigger is what starts the workflow, except when testing the workflow, it must be activated for the trigger to actually work.

In the canvas, when we double click on a node, we can see the nodes before and after the given node. Um, you can use these little icons to navigate through the workflow as you are building.

Here we have a very simple example. Uh, when clicking execute workflow, Google Sheets, filter, and then an edit Fields node.

And by double clicking the filter node, we can see to the left Google Sheets and to the right the edit filter node.

Another core topic we need to cover is branching. So branching is very important, uh, when building complex workflows. Um, branches are how we create different paths or different set of sets of actions depending on different conditions.

Um, branches is what allows us to create complex workflows where one workflow is able to cover a large variety of cases and not only one single case.

We can create branches in two different ways. The first way is we use a node that has multiple output options.

In this case, each item will follow only one of the multiple paths. So here, for example, we have, we have an if node, and the if node has two outputs, true and false.

As we can see, we have three input items and only one item goes through true and two items go through false, so each item only follows one specific path.

Another way to create branches is by dragging two or more output lines from a single node. This means every single item will follow every path and will be duplicated out by the number of paths.

We'll, um, see what this looks like in n8n in just a minute.

Nodes with multiple output branches will have different sets of output items, obviously. Um, and these can be accessed from the output data of the given node. For example, here the if node has an output item for items that satisfy the condition and an output item for items that don't satisfy the condition.

Let's jump into n8n and see what all of this looks like. So here we are back in n8n. Uh, the first thing I'd like to show you is, uh, triggers and activation.

So this workflow that we started building that we execute manually before reading some information in a Google sheet, if we want this workflow to execute, let's say every morning at 8:00 AM, we could use the schedule trigger, and this would allow us to set the, uh, trigger interval, how many days between each trigger and what hour to trigger at.

So in this case, we would like to trigger every day with, you know, every one, one day as spacing, and we're going to trigger it at 8:00 a.

m. Here you can see we have so multiple triggers on a given workflow.

And here, if I want to test the step, it is going to execute even though it is not 8:00 a.m. on a given day.

However, if I want to, uh, once I'm done building this workflow, if I want it to actually run every day at 8:00 AM, I have to make sure that the workflow is activated.

So when the workflow is activated, you will get a confirmation message. Your schedule trigger will now trigger executions on the schedule you have defined.

And now I could remove this, uh, manual step. Every time you activate a workflow, it will automatically save, um, so make sure that your uh workflow is ready to be activated before you actually do turn it on.

So continuing to build this workflow, let's add a node after the uh Google Sheets.

First, let's execute. So we have uh the data. Just as a reminder, we have here a list of contacts with their first name, last name, email, and company.

So what we'd like to do here is first of all, we'd like to remove everyone that doesn't have an email.

Let's say we want to email all of these people. If people do not have an email, then there's nothing we can do with them.

So we are going to use the filter node to filter out every contact that does not have an email.

So here in the filter node, we have our conditions and here we want to make sure that the email is, so email is going to be a string, a sequence of letters and characters, and we want to make sure that it exists.

So by executing this step, we can see that we went from 10 to 10 items in this case.

We can see that even if the email is empty, we still have an empty value. So in this case, the condition would not be exists, but rather is not equal to an empty string.

Here, if we test this step again, we will see that we go down from 10 items in the input to eight items that were kept and two items that were discarded, items that had empty emails.

So from here on, we only have the eight items uh that we want to work with that have emails.

From here we could think, okay, maybe we want a different kind of behavior depending depending on if the uh person has a professional email address or a work email address or a personal email address.

So here we can add an if node and in the if node we can add some conditions.

So looking at the JSON, we see here a Gmail address, some work emails, and a Hotmail address. So our condition here is going to be, we want the email to not contain gmail.

com. This will allow us to filter out the Gmail addresses, and as a second step, we could filter out.

So here we see we have gmail. and we have a hotmail.com. So by simplifying this condition by removing the .com, we could just remove anything that has @gmail, and we can add a condition.

When we add a condition, uh, and so we have two conditions in our if node, we have to decide how we want to combine the conditions.

Here we want to exclude everyone whose email contains @gmail or anyone whose email contains @Hotmail, and so in this case, we're going to be using the or filter.

So again, we drag and drop email, and we want it to not contain hotmail, or actually @Hotmail would be better.

If we test this step, so if we test this step, we can see that none of the items actually went into the false branch, and this is because we are creating the uh branch of professional email addresses, and so we actually should use the and condition.

The professional email addresses are that they don't contain Gmail and that they don't contain Hotmail. So here I can test this step.

Here we can see that we have uh multiple branches. So if I were to add a node here and then another one here and I execute again this if node, we're going to see five items are going up this branch and three items are going down this branch.

If we had, uh, this allows us to create these branches where each item of the input is going down only one of these paths if we were to uh just drag another if from the filter node and then maybe just realign things so we can see a bit better.

And here I execute the filter node, we can see that in this case, eight items are going down here and eight items are going down here. So by dragging multiple outputs from the same node, we duplicate the items down both paths, but by creating an if or a set of conditional branches, then we split the items down the different paths.

🌱 분기의 중요성 및 생성 방법

분기는 복잡한 워크플로를 구축할 때 중요하며, **다양한 조건에 따라 서로 다른 경로를 만드는 방법**입니다. 이를 통해 다양한 사례를 처리할 수 있는 워크플로를 만들 수 있습니다.

분기를 만드는 첫 번째 방법은 **여러 출력 옵션이 있는 노드를 사용하는 것**입니다. 예를 들어, if 노드에는 true와 false라는 두 개의 출력이 있습니다.

두 번째 방법은 **단일 노드에서 두 개 이상의 출력 라인을 드래그하는 것**입니다. 이 경우 모든 단일 항목이 모든 경로를 따르고 경로 수만큼 복제됩니다.

⏰ 트리거 설정 및 활성화 데모

스케줄 트리거를 사용하여 워크플로를 특정 시간에 실행되도록 설정할 수 있습니다. **간격, 간격 일수, 트리거 시간을 설정**할 수 있습니다.

워크플로가 활성화되면 확인 메시지가 표시되며, 스케줄 트리거가 정의한 스케줄에 따라 실행을 트리거합니다. 워크플로를 활성화할 때마다 자동으로 저장되므로, **활성화하기 전에 준비가 되었는지 확인**해야 합니다.

다뤄야 할 또 다른 핵심 주제는 분기입니다. 분기는 복잡한 워크플로를 구축할 때 매우 중요합니다. 분기는 다양한 조건에 따라 서로 다른 경로 또는 서로 다른 작업 집합을 만드는 방법입니다.

분기를 사용하면 단일 사례뿐 아니라 다양한 사례를 처리할 수 있는 복잡한 워크플로를 만들 수 있습니다.

분기는 두 가지 방법으로 만들 수 있습니다. 첫 번째 방법은 여러 출력 옵션이 있는 노드를 사용하는 것입니다.

이 경우 각 항목은 여러 경로 중 하나만 따릅니다. 예를 들어 여기에 if 노드가 있는데, if 노드에는 true와 false라는 두 개의 출력이 있습니다.

보시다시피 세 개의 입력 항목이 있고 하나의 항목만 true를 통과하고 두 개의 항목은 false를 통과하므로 각 항목은 하나의 특정 경로만 따릅니다.

분기를 만드는 또 다른 방법은 단일 노드에서 두 개 이상의 출력 라인을 드래그하는 것입니다. 즉, 모든 단일 항목이 모든 경로를 따르고 경로 수만큼 복제됩니다.

출력 분기가 여러 개인 노드는 당연히 서로 다른 출력 항목 집합을 갖습니다. 이러한 항목은 지정된 노드의 출력 데이터에서 액세스할 수 있습니다. 예를 들어 여기에서 if 노드에는 조건을 충족하는 항목에 대한 출력 항목과 조건을 충족하지 않는 항목에 대한 출력 항목이 있습니다.

n8n으로 돌아가서 이 모든 것이 어떻게 보이는지 살펴봅시다. 자, 여기 n8n으로 돌아왔습니다. 먼저 보여드리고 싶은 것은 트리거와 활성화입니다.

자, Google 시트에서 일부 정보를 읽기 전에 수동으로 실행했던 이 워크플로는 매일 아침 8시에 실행되도록 하려면 스케줄 트리거를 사용하면 됩니다. 이 트리거를 사용하면 트리거 간격, 각 트리거 사이의 간격 일수, 트리거할 시간을 설정할 수 있습니다.

이 경우 간격을 하루로 설정하여 매일 트리거하고 오전 8시에 트리거하려고 합니다.

여기서 주어진 워크플로에 여러 개의 트리거가 있는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.

여기서 단계를 테스트하면 특정 날짜의 오전 8시가 아니더라도 실행됩니다.

하지만 이 워크플로를 다 만든 후 실제로 매일 오전 8시에 실행되도록 하려면 워크플로가 활성화되었는지 확인해야 합니다.

워크플로가 활성화되면 확인 메시지가 표시됩니다. 이제 스케줄 트리거가 정의한 스케줄에 따라 실행을 트리거합니다.

이제 이 수동 단계를 제거할 수 있습니다. 워크플로를 활성화할 때마다 자동으로 저장되므로 워크플로를 켜기 전에 활성화할 준비가 되었는지 확인하세요.

이 워크플로를 계속 구축하여 Google 시트 뒤에 노드를 추가해 보겠습니다.

먼저 실행해 보겠습니다. 데이터를 얻었습니다. 다시 한번 말씀드리지만, 여기에는 이름, 성, 이메일, 회사가 있는 연락처 목록이 있습니다.

여기서 하고 싶은 것은 우선 이메일이 없는 모든 사람을 제거하는 것입니다.

이 모든 사람에게 이메일을 보내고 싶다고 가정해 봅시다. 이메일이 없는 사람은 아무것도 할 수 없습니다.

따라서 필터 노드를 사용하여 이메일이 없는 모든 연락처를 필터링할 것입니다.

여기 필터 노드에는 조건이 있으며 여기서 이메일이 있는지 확인하려고 합니다. 이메일은 문자 및 문자의 시퀀스인 문자열이 되며 존재하는지 확인하려고 합니다.

이 단계를 실행하면 이 경우 10개에서 10개 항목으로 변경된 것을 볼 수 있습니다.

이메일이 비어 있더라도 빈 값이 있다는 것을 알 수 있습니다. 따라서 이 경우 조건은 존재가 아니라 빈 문자열과 같지 않음이 됩니다.

여기서 이 단계를 다시 테스트하면 입력의 10개 항목에서 보관된 8개 항목과 삭제된 2개 항목, 즉 빈 이메일이 있는 항목으로 줄어드는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.

이제부터는 이메일이 있는 8개의 항목만 사용하여 작업을 진행합니다.

여기에서 사람의 이메일 주소가 회사 이메일 주소인지 개인 이메일 주소인지에 따라 다른 종류의 동작을 원할 수도 있다고 생각할 수 있습니다.

여기서 if 노드를 추가할 수 있으며 if 노드에 몇 가지 조건을 추가할 수 있습니다.

JSON을 살펴보면 여기에 Gmail 주소, 일부 회사 이메일, Hotmail 주소가 있습니다. 따라서 여기서의 조건은 이메일에 Gmail이 포함되지 않도록 하는 것입니다.

com입니다. 이렇게 하면 Gmail 주소를 필터링할 수 있으며 두 번째 단계로 필터링할 수 있습니다.

여기서 gmail.과 hotmail.com이 있습니다. 따라서 .com을 제거하여 이 조건을 단순화하면 @gmail이 있는 항목을 제거하고 조건을 추가할 수 있습니다.

조건을 추가하면 if 노드에 두 가지 조건이 있으므로 조건을 결합할 방법을 결정해야 합니다.

여기서는 이메일에 @gmail이 포함된 모든 사람 또는 이메일에 @Hotmail이 포함된 모든 사람을 제외하려고 하므로 이 경우에는 or 필터를 사용합니다.

다시 이메일을 끌어다 놓고 Hotmail을 포함하지 않도록 하거나 실제로 @Hotmail이 더 좋을 것입니다.

이 단계를 테스트하면 실제로는 항목이 false 분기로 이동하지 않았음을 알 수 있습니다. 이는 회사 이메일 주소의 분기를 만들고 있기 때문이므로 실제로 and 조건을 사용해야 합니다.

회사 이메일 주소는 Gmail을 포함하지 않고 Hotmail을 포함하지 않는다는 것입니다. 여기서 이 단계를 테스트할 수 있습니다.

여기에서 여러 개의 분기가 있음을 알 수 있습니다. 여기에 노드를 추가하고 여기에 다른 노드를 추가한 다음 이 if 노드를 다시 실행하면 5개의 항목이 이 분기로 올라가고 3개의 항목이 이 분기로 내려가는 것을 볼 수 있습니다.

만약 필터 노드에서 다른 if를 드래그하고 상황을 다시 정렬하여 더 잘 볼 수 있다면 입력의 각 항목이 이러한 경로 중 하나로만 내려가는 이러한 분기를 만들 수 있습니다.

여기에서 필터 노드를 실행하면 이 경우 8개의 항목이 여기로 내려가고 8개의 항목이 여기로 내려가는 것을 볼 수 있습니다. 따라서 동일한 노드에서 여러 출력을 드래그하면 항목이 두 경로로 복제되지만 if 또는 조건부 분기 집합을 만들면 항목이 다른 경로로 분할됩니다.
