okay, so imagine this. You want to prepare your favorite meal, only to discover that you are missing one of the key ingredients. So you decide you're going to go to the grocery store to get this ingredient. So you get into your car and you begin driving your car toward the grocery store. Along the way, you see a friend of yours walking down the street, and you stop your car and you wave to your friend. Your friend says, Hey, I'm going to go get some coffee. Would you like to join me? You said, Oh, sure. How about let me just park my car? You park your car, and you start walking with your friend. You're walking to the coffee shop, and you get to the coffee shop. You get in line, and once you get up to order your coffee, you order the coffee. You go to pay, and you realize you left your wallet in the car. So you go back out to get your wallet from the car, only to realize that your car has

just been towed because you forgot to put money in the meter. So now you realize I've got to go get my car. So you started going walking toward wherever the car is being kept. And as you're walking along you see a crime being committed. And you decide that you're going to try to intervene in some way. And as you try to intervene, you are assaulted and you get injured. Now you decide that you've got to try and help yourself out. So you got to patch up your injuries somehow. So you set off trying to do that. And along the way you encounter another friend. And this friend says, Hey, we're going to the park. We're going to play some music. Would you like to come along? You forget about your injuries and all in the car and all the rest of it. You say, Oh yeah, sure. You go with your friend and you go to the park and you're playing music and it's all lovely. Now this kind of thing just

continues one thing after the other, after the other, after the other. At the end of the day, you come back home and you realize you didn't get the ingredient for your favorite meal, and you're hungry, and you remember that your car has been towed, and you don't have your car, and you don't have your wallet 'cause your wallet was in the car, and you realized that you're injured still and you didn't really address that. So guess what you're going to do the next day. Now, of course, the next day, if you don't get your act together, then what's going to happen, right? Now you've got more things to deal with than you did the day before. But if you don't keep, if you cannot stay focused on what your goals are, you're going to end up with more stuff to deal with. And if this just continues day after day after day, can you start to imagine how that problem is going to come back? Now, why am I telling this insane story? Well, if you think about it, you

might start to realize that this is very much like your life. So my proposal is that we actually come into this life because we have a particular goal. We have a desire. That desire gives rise to this lifetime. But we come into this lifetime, and then we get distracted by all the stuff, all the other things going on, you know, family dramas, Community dramas, cultural dramas, personal dramas, all the stuff going on. And so we get distracted by all of it, and hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades, lifetimes go by, consumed by all this stuff. And at the end of the day, so to speak, when we kind of come to our senses for a moment, we realize I didn't achieve the things that I set out to achieve. Not only that, but now I've got more things that I want to achieve just to deal with all the open-ended stuff that's there, you know. Now I've got the disappointments, the grievances, the frustrations, the discouragements, and all the rest of it that now I've piled

up on myself that now I've I feel that I need to resolve so it just keeps getting more and more complicated because we're not actually getting closure on any of the things, and we're opening up more stuff. So when I advocate for uh having clarity about what you want and you utilizing the law of attention to actually get resolution to your desires, it's not because I'm trying to glorify desire in and of itself. It's really coming from a totally pragmatic point of view, which is that if that that's what's going on, and if you don't address that, then you're making your life very difficult. So I'm pointing this out for a couple of reasons. One is because it's really important, um, two is because this is something that leads to a lot of unnecessary confusion for people, and I want to clear that up because my goal, uh, is to uh provide useful information that and practical information that you can utilize in your life in order to help yourself to uh achieve your goals and

ultimately, to know yourself and satisfy that fundamental desire to know yourself. So that's what I'm aiming for with all this. And I see that a lot of people have confusion about this. So, getting clarity on this can be an enormous, let's say, time saver, to put it mildly. It really increases the efficiency. It helps you to achieve more satisfaction, more peace, more happiness in your life, both moment to moment and also in the big picture because it helps you to get real clarity about what you really want. Otherwise, your attention is just going to tend to go here and there to whatever it is coming up. And that just leads to more and more conflict, things that are unresolved, things that you then feel that you need to resolve. And so, it just produces this enormous bundle of unfulfilled desires. And that's difficult, to put it mildly. So, you know, I get comments from people sometimes, not infrequently, where they're wanting to know, well, but what

about um you know what what about so many different kinds of things. What about um you know the The Starving Children and what about animal cruelty and what about fill in the blank with whatever the issue is that concerns them. Now I get it um we all have our ideas about what's right and wrong, and we have an idea of what our perfect world would be, and that's nice. And if that's really important to you, then you're welcome and free to use your creative powers in order to bring that into creation. Uh, but from my perspective, what's more important is to get clarity about what you really want because what often happens is that these issues that we can become distracted by are not actually central to what it is that we really want. So a useful thing to ask yourself is, what will when that is satisfied when I have achieved that outcome when I have ended all animal cruelty when I have ended all starvation when I have ended all warfare when I

have achieved whatever things I want to achieve. Yeah, when I have done these things, what will that give me? Because that's what you really want. That's going to help you to actually, you know, why go direct instead of going indirect. Instead of focusing on the, you know, whether you're going to get there in the Ferrari or you're going to get there in the the Ford Pinto, get there in whatever way. First of all, know where there is because the mode of transportation is not nearly as important as where is the destination, where you're going to get where you want to get to. So know what you want. If you don't know what you want, then you can occupy your days and your years and lifetimes with so much stuff. But will it actually give you the real satisfaction? Will it really give you what you want? And you don't actually have a way of knowing that unless you know what you want. Knowing what you want is the way in which you can measure everything.

another way that this comes up for people is people want to know it. They'll ask if something is good or bad, you know, is it good? Or sometimes phas it is it right or wrong. Like is it right or wrong wrong to want X or to do y? And my answer to that is it depends entirely on what you want. It's like Shakespeare famously wrote, No nothing is either good nor bad, but thinking makes it so. So this is true, the idea that there is something that is actually good or bad is false. It's all relative to a desired outcome. So and think about that for a moment because that's really really important. That's everything that I've said. This is not just to you know inflate my own ego. Everything that I've said is well, I don't know about everything. That's a probably an exaggeration, but many of the things, the main points that I'm making here are very very important. These can save you so so much time and struggle and suffering and.

the rest of that if you really take these to heart. So, and this is included in it. So, thinking, think about whether something is right or wrong or good or bad is entirely relative to what your desired outcome is. And so, and this is not that difficult to recognize if you just take a look and see for like every side of a conflict. It's easy to look at a conflict and take a side, and then you judge the other side is wrong or bad. You say they're evil, you know, they have to be evil because they're just counter to what I think is right. But if you really tell the truth about it, that can't actually be true. That people don't do things thinking that they're wrong. People do things thinking that they're right. So, I might think that I'm right, and you might think that you're right, but we might equally think that the other is wrong because we might have a totally counter perspectives on the thing. So, right and wrong are relative to the

destination relative to the goal. I often put it this way: if you think about uh wherever you are right now and you think about some, think about some location, some city, or country, or Province, or whatever that is uh north of you or east of you or some, some cardinal direction, and then think about the op, some location that's the opposite cardinal direction. Okay, now would you say that either of those places is wrong or bad? And hopefully you've picked a place that you don't think is wrong or bad, right? They're not wrong or bad, they're just locations. But then the question is, if you want to go to the, to one of them, is going to the other one useful or efficient in that process? And the answer to that is no because they're in opposite directions, right? So if I want to go to this place that is east of me, is it useful or efficient for me to go to a place that is west of me? And the answer to that is it's not, so it's so all things are like this.

it's not good or bad in an absolute sense. It's all relative to what it is that I want. So having clarity about what you want is super important. A lot. So just notice how this plays out in life, so many different ways. I'll give you at least one example that comes to mind. So, um, a lot of people struggle with what they call people-pleasing, okay. So they think, well, I have to please other people. I have to get other people's approval. I don't want other people to be upset. Well, the question is, is that useful? Is that giving you good results? And in order to, to. So it's not that people-pleasing in and of itself is bad or wrong. It's just, is that actually useful for what you want? What is the purpose of your life? And I don't mean that it has to be with all capitals like the purpose of your life, but what is, what is the purpose in this moment? What are you wanting to achieve? What outcome do you desire? And is striving to please people

helping you to achieve that most of the time, it's not. Now, there might be some instances in which that is useful, you know, like if your aim is to, uh, you know, win a contest in pleasing people. I guess it's useful to please people, and I guess there are certain competitions that are like that, you know, often like certain political competitions turn out to be like that, uh, so, you know, like maybe that's useful for whatever your goal is, but if it's not useful for your goal, then we could say it's wrong or bad relative to your goal. It's not absolutely wrong or bad, but it's wrong or bad relative to your goal, so it's counterproductive for what you want, but you cannot know that unless you first know what you want. That's why knowing what you want is super important, and that's why I emphasize that so often, and I know that sometimes that, uh, and I, I know this because people, I, I read comments, and sometimes people, it seems to rub them the wrong way because they

will comment saying you know you're you're leading you're leading people astray because all desire is wrong. You know you're welcome to your opinion. I think that's everybody's entitled to have their opinion. The question is just is that giving you good results. My proposal, the reason that I propose these things is because I perceive and believe that it is helpful, gives better results to actually acknowledge that you have desire and then to, uh, start to efficiently address that. And the reason again is if we come back to that story that I was telling at the beginning, yeah, if you have a desire, what you do and then you don't satisfy that desire and instead you start taking on other desires and you acquire more and more stuff, is that actually giving you good results? Are you happy with that? And so, and the answer to that is most likely no. So then people come up with different, uh, strategies or philosophies around that and sometimes what people determine is desire is bad. I should get rid of all.

desire. Theoretically, it sounds nice. Practically speaking, it doesn't usually work out very well. Practically speaking, if you think that desire is bad and you just make desire enemy, then for most people what seems to happen is that they just keep being trapped in that same cycle where they still have desire. They're still being driven by desire. They're still reacting to desire. Even the desire to be without desire is a reaction to desire. It's a desire in reaction to desire. And for most people, all that does is just continue to feed into the same cycle. So for most people, what happens is more and more of this stuff is acquired, and it leads to a greater sense of burden in a person's life. So typically, less of a sense of freedom, less happiness, less peace, and then less clarity about who one really is. You know, a person starts to just be totally identified with their desires, including the desire to be free of all desire. So, I perceive it's my own experience, you know, because I tried that.

other route. I tried all that stuff, I mean I don't know about all, but I tried. I tried to. I went down that path. I went a fair ways down that path. I'm fairly familiar with the territory, and I know that it did not work well for me. Uh, I see that it does not appear to work well for many people, and so I offer an alternative view, which I believe gives better results, which is that um, just acknowledge that you have desire, and instead of denying it, and instead of uh, the usual strategies that people employ, you can consciously begin to work with your desire and fulfill it. Um, and this ultimately, if you think about it, so obviously, it can be problematic if you just continue to seek endlessly, have this desire, and then the next desire, and then the next desire, and then the next desire. Um, there's no actual rest ultimately. I would say that the real desire is to have a real rest in the Peace of who one really is. Uh, you know, the all

ultimate um that when asked who are we really the the sages in various Traditions answer things such as satchit Anand so satchitananda could be understood as uh truth or being uh Consciousness and Bliss so it's it's not those words per se but they're pointing to an essence of something that is um that is UN limited unbounded free whole complete Blissful joyful and so the the the real the real desire I would say the fundamental desire is to be uh uh at one with oneself as one really is no longer seeking for anything it's just so I don't and I think that's ultimately what most people are pointing to is just their strategies may be different and many people's strategies are suppress or get rid of desire and I don't think that that gives good results my sense is my experience is that um skillfully resolving desire being conscious of desire and working with desire in an intelligent way gives better more reliable positive results and so uh uh that's why I that's

why I talk about it so much so knowing what you want is crucial, and many of the things that we think we want, we don't actually want. So if you think about this story that I told person, uh, wants to cook their meal, and they're missing some ingredient, so they set out trying to acquire that. But along the way, they start getting these borrowed desires, you know, the friend says, Hey, let's go for a coffee, the other friend says, Let's go to the park, and this, you know, they see, um, some crime being committed and think, Oh, I should intervene because, you know, that's what society has told me I should do. So along the way, we acquire all of these desires, and we become confused and lose sight of what it is that we really want. So, uh, if you just wholesale reject or suppress all desire, then that does not seem to be very skillful. What is much more skillful in practice is to get clarity, number one, get clarity about what desire is actually yours, so let go of the desires for

things that are not yours, and then to begin to intelligently and skillfully work to uh satisfy your true desires. And in and I'll talk a little bit more about some ways to do that, but the first thing is to be able to differentiate between your desires and borrow desires. And one method, I mean, so I would say at a at a fundamental level, the way to do that is to develop the skill of uh Detachment or letting go. So it is a skill that's a very useful skill to develop, and it gives many benefits in life because if you're very attached to things, then you will not tend to have much peace in life. You'll feel that everything is uh a big deal. You'll be a lot of drama in your life because every you're attached to all the outcomes, you're attach attached to all these things. So you think my okayness depends upon the Fulfillment of this borrow desire. You know, my parents want me to be a lawyer, so my okayness depends upon me satisfying that desire of being a lawyer.

but being a lawyer is kind of hard work, and meanwhile, I actually want to be, uh, you know, sailing and playing ukulele. But instead, I'm doing this hard work to be aware, um, and on top of that, now, you know, I'm married, and my spouse wants the big house. And so now I've taken on that, and I've got to, I feel like I have to get the big house in order to be okay. And you know, my children want the whatever they want. And so now I've taken that on, and I feel like my okayness depends on that. And so I just keep piling on this stuff. You know, my friends say that I should care about this political cause. And so I've taken that on as my desire to and on and on and on it goes. So getting clarity about what is actually yours is like a huge relief because you can just start to unload stuff, all the burdens of things that are not even yours to begin with. So, uh, practicing that detachment, practicing uh

a very practicing connection with your fundamental oist is a really important skill. One of the practices that I frequently recommend that can be very helpful for this is breath awareness. Breath awareness is not about counting your breath, and it's not about holding your breath, and it's not about doing whim Hof, and it's not about any of those things. It's about actually allowing the breath and being very present. So the key ingredient there is presence. Presence is, we could say, fundamentally this kind of paradox because your very presence is very detached, and yet it's very here. So it's not like drifting off, zoning out. It's not that kind of a sense of Detachment like you're just floating. It's very grounded and very here, but it's also completely detached from trying to control or manipulate anything. And so by being very present to the breath and allowing the breath to occur, cultivates this kind of detachment. It's not like I say, it's not a floating off kind of thing, it's a very

grounded very present thing, but it's completely detached from any attempt to control or manipulate in order to get something. So, it's an enormously valuable skill, and I highly recommend taking at least a minute every day, even just one minute of practicing that can be very, very helpful. It's unlikely to be um life-changing overnight; it could be, but it's unlikely. The real benefit comes from regular practice of that because that will help you to really get clarity about what is important, what really matters, because through that you can learn that you so much of it does not matter, so much does not matter, uh, a lot of the time where people are starting from, they're thinking that their thoughts matter. So, this is all thoughts, everything that's going on is thoughts, and people think that their thoughts matter. They think that their thoughts are a big deal, you know, every thought that comes up needs all this equal kind of attention, like it's all equally important, and it's not, uh, so the having presence, which allows that the thoughts come and go, the thoughts

come and go. The thoughts come and go, and I just remain here. As the thoughts come and go, I just remain here, realizing that there's in all the ups and downs, all of the dramas that are created by all the thoughts. Oh, they don't love me anymore. Oh, those people won't approve of me. Oh, I might lose some money. Oh, I might end up homeless under the bridge. Oh, you know, all the things. Thoughts are coming and going, thoughts are coming and going, and meanwhile, there's just this, this, this discovery that I'm just here, regardless of whether the thoughts are up or the thoughts are down, or the thoughts seem this or the thoughts seem that, regardless of the emotion, regardless of any of that, I'm here. So, it provides this stability, this groundness, this knowing, this certainty that I'm always here. So then, whatever, whatever, you know, I mean, like dramas come, dramas go, the fear comes, the fear goes, the all of that comes and goes. I'm here. It's really, really powerful, uh, and so that kind of

Detachment can be really helpful for getting clarity about what are your desires and what are not your desires. Because when the more that you can cultivate that kind of presence, that kind of grounded attachment, the more you're able to let go of what's not yours. Because then you'll have that clarity, you know, that the thought will come, Oh, but I should, I have to be a lawyer, it's really important. And then that thought will, you know, it comes and it goes, and then the next thought comes in, it's like, Actually, my parents want me a lawyer, I don't even want to be a lawyer, I know. And you just start to see things in the proper context and realize, Oh, it's not even mine. So, I highly recommend that. It will really be very, very helpful in your life to do that. Like I say, it's not something that's going to produce dramatic overnight results. It's one of those things that takes time and consistency. And for those who are

familiar with how I approach things. That should not come as a surprise because that's really what I advocate for. In case you didn't know, that's what I advocate for. Uh, it's just consistency. Do small, simple things that work, that give you clarity and empower you. Do them on a consistent basis in a way that's sustainable for you. I, I know for sure. I know that's a crazy, insane, bold statement. That I don't ask me to back that up. But I really, I know for sure. I mean, I know for sure in my life. Uh, I can put it that way. That approach works way better than doing the more dramatic approach of doing, you know, the 10-day retreat and the 10-day fasting and this and, you know, all that other stuff might give more dramatic short-term, uh, effects. And there might be certain benefits to that. I'm not going to deny that. So, I, I think that I have had some benefits from some of those things, but not, but there's short-term

they're like catalysts. They don't give actual long-term results. They can provide some insights, but those insights have to be integrated. And so, really the real results come from what is done consistently, the small simple things that are done consistently. So doing something small and simple consistently, such as breath awareness, it can be life-changing over time. It's like I'm going to say the same thing again just because I want to make sure that it's really clear. If you're doing that and you're thinking, well, you know, this should be producing some miracle result in the five minutes that I'm doing it, and I don't seem to be noticing that, therefore this doesn't work or it won't work for me, or I should go back to doing Wim Hof because that gives me more dramatic results. And by the way, if you want to do the Wim Hof thing, that's your business, you know, whatever. But with what I'm proposing, it's not about whether it gives you flashy results in the moment or not. Maybe it

will maybe it won't and that's not actually important. That's not important. What's important is what it gives you over time because it gives you the ability to be able to differentiate. That ability to differentiate is enormous because if you don't know who you are, if you cannot differentiate who you are, you're lost. It's hopeless if you cannot be aware you're lost, and it's hopeless if you know if you cannot differentiate between your desires and borrowed desires. Holy cow, I don't know how you're going to do that. That's going to be a really long, difficult, dramatic, likely pain-filled ride. So actually being able to differentiate and distinguish and say this is mine, this is not, is big time saver. It's knock off lifetimes right there. So I highly recommend that. Then there will be those things that you cannot easily let go of, and this is where I distinguish the path of attainment versus the path of the renunciate. So the same skill set of

uh, what I'm talking about is presence. Detachment is used on both paths, both the path of attainment and the path of the renunciate. So, the path of the renunciate is the path of Detachment, pure Detachment. So, it's just to say, not this, not this, not this. I'm not that, I'm not this, I'm not that, none of it. I'm none of these things, I'm none of the desires, none of it is me. It all comes and goes. Just detach, be present, detach, be present, detach, be present. That's a path, but that's that path. I don't know how to do that path while having a family and bills and business and all the other stuff. If you figure that out, blessings to you, and you can have your own YouTube channel and teach people that, and I'll tune in because I would really genuinely like to know about that. But what I have found is that there's another path, which is what I'm calling the path of attainment, and the path of

attainment still has the same end goal. It's still to have, it's still to know yourself as Freedom. It's still to know yourself as Bliss. It's still to know yourself as pure being. It's the but it uses slightly different tool sets. There's overlap because as I said, the path of annunciation uses Detachment and presence so does the path of attainment but it's a it's a matter of how they're used because it does not work, at least not in my experience, to live a life of on the path of attainment, having a family and having, you know, a house and bills and all the other stuff and to only have this one tool in your toolbox which is presence and Detachment. I don't know how to pull that off. That does not seem to work and again if you figure that out, let me know and write your, you know, write books and have your YouTube channel because I think that would be enormously valuable but um, I don't know how to make that work and so the path that I'm advocating for.

or the one that I'm sharing, the one that I'm offering information about, is the path of attainment, which is for people who live in this world, people who are not going to go off and live in a cave, people who are still engaged in this world in some form or fashion. And the distinguishing point is this: that with the path of renunciation, as I've already said, you just use this one tool. It's all about detachment, it's all about presence. You just say, None of this is me, none of it. It all comes and goes. I am that which is just here, unchanging. The rest of it is just coming and going. So you don't engage with it at all. You do not try to fulfill it. But that makes it quite challenging to feed yourself, and clothe yourself, and shelter yourself, much less to have a family. Okay, so for the rest of us who are still involved in this world, then I propose that not all is lost. Instead, we just need to have other tools.

that we use. We need to learn how to make use of, uh, fulfilling. How do we work with the laws of nature to fulfill desires that we have that are actually our true desires? Because it turns out that might actually be more efficient than the path of renunciation, at least for somebody who's not a renunciate. So just understand what I'm pointing to is for the re it. They say they still have desires, but they're renouncing. They're just saying, not mine, not me, not that comes and goes. I am that which is changeless. So through that renunciation, there's a, a release of the attachment to those desires. But because those desires are so, uh, fundamental to this lifetime, to this arising of this personality, then that is, um, challenging to put it mildly. And so this path that I'm proposing is one in which we, we let go. We have, we do, we let go of the low hanging fruit, as it were. So we use presence and detachment to say, that's

not mine, that's borrowed. That's clearly from my parents, that's clearly from Facebook, that's clearly from my friends, that's clearly from my neighbors, that's clearly from, you know, my social group. Not mine. But then you're still left with those things that they're fundamental to this lifetime, and you can usually recognize them because they hurt, you know? Like the other things, the other things might seem mildly painful, but you can let go of them, and then you just experience freedom and happiness. You're no longer feeling attached or bound by them. But then there are those things where you just don't seem to be able to let go of. It just keeps on coming back over and over and over, whether it's, you know, a sense of like, I just feel like I struggle with this health thing. I can't seem to just let it go. I can't seem to just be and allow the discomfort or the whatever it is that's going on. It just keeps on coming up over and over and

over, I really, really, really want to resolve this. Or it's the, you know, financial things. I just don't seem to be able to let go of it. It's really bothering me. It's painful to me. So, or it's the relationship thing. And you know, that's, you can't seem to let it go, whatever that is. So, there's a lot of variation on the themes, but it usually comes down to those areas. We could throw in a fourth area of creative expression, possibly. Um, but at least those, if we were to say those four areas. So, creative expression, money, relationships, and health. Kind of those are the four main buckets of the things that seem to be bothering us. And so, then you can just find out what are the things that are painful to you that you don't seem to be able to let go of. Now, you know, those are the desires that you have that you could fulfill. And it might be more efficient just to fulfill them than to try and detach from them. Because if you think about it, once

you fulfilled it, if you're present and intelligent, then the detachment happens. Once you fulfilled it, the, as I say, the condition is you have to be present and skillful because we've probably all experienced if we're not present and skillful, then the satisfaction of one desire does not can easily just pay you back to the next desire. So we need to be present and skillful, but once we satisfied it, then that desire is resolved. So if we resolve the desires that we have, that also offers a path to releasing ourselves of those desires without having to try and detach through renunciation. So, the basic thing here is, as I've pointed out, we want to identify what are the desires that we actually have, and then we want to use the, we want to work with the laws of nature skillfully in order to satisfy those desires. So what are some of those laws? The attention, the law of attention is really key, and that's why I bring it up.

so often if you understand and can if you really understand that law. If you know what you want and you can keep your attention on it long enough, you will succeed. And this is probably the biggest weak point for most people. Is if you think back to this story that I started to talk with that, think about what's the weakness there. The weakness is the inability to keep the attention on what you want. So if you're going through your day and your attention is pulled here and pulled there, then at the end of the day, you know the answer to the question, how much of importance have you accomplished? Not much because your attention is just going here and there. So the ability to keep your attention on what you want is fundamental in terms of your ability to accomplish your goals, to succeed in fulfilling your desires. If you don't keep your attention on it, you will not succeed. This is, um, so, uh, uh, this shows up in many ways in life. So, for example, with

in athletics, the ability to keep your focus on what you want is really important to having mastery and developing the skills. So, like, if you're playing baseball, you have to keep, if you're batting, okay, you have to keep your eye on the ball. If your eye is not on the ball, you're not going to be able to hit it. And you have to have clarity of intention and to know what you're doing. So, you have to already have envisioned that you're swinging and making contact with the ball and where you want it to go. So, this is something that we have to develop if we want to have mastery in life. We have to develop that in all areas of our life in terms of what it is that we want. So, you have to know what you want and then you have to keep your attention on. So, if you just think about in your life anything that you keep your attention on long enough, you make

progress with it. It might not be as fast of progress as you would prefer. It might not be as complete of progress as you would prefer, but you have to admit, as long as you persist in keeping your attention on something, you do make progress. So, keeping your attention on something is fundamental. And if you keep switching your attention to other things, then just understand that what's happening is that you're not directing your energy toward the thing, but to something else, right? Your attention directs your energy. So, if you don't know what you want, what is the likelihood that you'll keep your attention on it? Very unlikely because you don't even know what it is. So, the most important thing is to know what you want. And then you have to help yourself to keep your attention on it. Well, in order to keep your... they see how they work synergistically though. When you know what you want and you really are clear that you want it, then it's much easier to keep bringing your attention back to it. It's much easier to

keep your attention on the thing when you have clarity. That's what you want. It's very difficult to keep your attention on something if you don't know that that's what you really want. Or if you don't have clarity that that's the highest priority. So, prioritization is also really important. Because a lot of the time we say, Well, I've got, uh, you know, I've got a hundred desires that I want to fulfill. Well, how well is that going to work for you to have a 100 desires that you're trying to fulfill right now? And if you tell the truth about that, that's not going to work very well at all. It's this myth of multitasking. People think they're multitasking is nonsense. You know, no, people don't multitask. People switch. They switch. They do this. They switch to that. They switch to the other thing. And there's an enormous inefficiency in that because every time you switch, you lose something. Whereas the longer you stay

with something, the more that you, the more efficiency there is in that. So, uh, if you say, I have a hundred things that I want, a hundred desires that I want to fulfill, do yourself a big favor. What prioritize them? What are the most important? If you can figure out what is the number one most important thing, that alone, having that clarity about what the number one most important thing is, can have a huge positive impact in terms of your ability to achieve it, because then at least you know that's the thing. If you pay attention throughout the day, you'll notice that there's a lot of inefficiency because you kind of get lost. You're like, What was I doing? What's important? What's my priority? I don't know. But if you know with crystal clarity this one thing is the most important thing in my life, then you'll have a lot less inefficiency because you'll straight away know exactly what to put your attention on there. You know, there may be these little blips where you get tired or you

get hungry and or you get in a disagreement with somebody, and so your attention goes somewhere else. But as soon as those things are resolved, if you have that kind of clarity, your attention will snap right back to the thing that's most important, whereas if you've got a hundred things, then your brain is like, what is the thing that I should be putting my attention on? I don't know, I've got a 100 different things. I can't even remember a 100 different things, but I know I've got 100 different things. Let me get my list and go through it. It's really, really inefficient. You're having to redo the same kinds of things over and over and over and over. You're having to continually sort and prioritize instead of just knowing, this is the most important thing. So that's really powerful if you can get enough clarity to know, this is the number one priority in my life, you'll start to see big changes, uh, as a result of that. So number one thing is to release the release those um

desires which are not yours. Number two is to get clarity of what your actual desires are. Number three is to prioritize them, and if possible, get clarity about what's the number one most important thing. And if you can't reduce it to just one thing, then try and reduce it to at least no more than three because it's difficult to hold in mind more than three things. But you know three is difficult enough. This is why I say possible just one, but really if you have to go to three, no more than three. And if you can't reduce it to three, if you can't prioritize the top three that are really, really important, and then just be willing to set aside the rest of them for now, then you're probably not being fully honest with yourself. You're probably not telling the truth about what actually matters to you. So, you know, just see if that, see what you can do with that because if you do that much, you'll start to see positive results from that just from doing

that um that's all I really wanted to say today. I mean, that that's like most of the things that I share. That's not like, you know, you know, the, you know, the don't eat these five foods if you don't want to, you, you want to lose belly fat. It's not like that kind of thing. It's not flashy. It's not exciting, uh, it's like, okay, put your attention on something consistently, do it every single day, uh, develop these skills, develop the skill of, of, uh, of presence and detachment so that you can let go of what's not yours. That's not something you, it's not one and done, that's something that you want to have there for you regularly, daily, every moment of your life because it will serve you. And then, along with that, have, develop this ability to get clarity about what you actually want and prioritize it, and then, uh, just keep directing your attention to that because when you do so, you will see better results. So that's what I'm going to say, um, for.
