This is the Dell XPS 13 9530 running the latest Intel Core ULTRA 7 268V. The chip has been viral on the Internet recently. So please stay tuned to see whether it truly lives up to Intel’s claims as the most power-efficient x86 processor. Alright, let’s start with the CPU performance test. The multi-core performance is just okay and lags quite a bit behind the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370. This is understandable because the Intel Core ULTRA 7 268V only has 8 CPU cores and consumes 37W, while the AMD Ryzen chip has 12 cores and consumes 55W. As a matter of fact, the multi-core performance of Intel Core ULTRA is lower than the AMD chip. However, the key point here is that Intel didn’t emphasize performance for their latest processor. Instead, the headline of the Intel Core ULTRA 200V series this year is that they claim it as the most

efficient x86 processor ever made. And, moving to the single-core test, it’s spot on. It consumes just 15W but delivers performance equivalent to the Ryzen AI 9 at 21W. In other words, Team Blue has beaten Team Red in the single-core performance per watt. However, it is still quite behind the Apple M3, which only requires 5-6W for single-core tasks. This means those x86 Windows laptops that aim for long battery life will have to equip with larger batteries. For everyday tasks, the 2nd gen Intel Core ULTRA 7 consumes only 1W-5W, while on the Vivobook S14, it requires 5-7W for similar light tasks. So, what do these numbers tell us? Is the Intel Core ULTRA series this year any good? In my opinion, it has both pros and cons. The pros is that it’s perfect for thin and light

ultrabooks that need long battery life. In ultrabooks, you actually don’t need super-powerful multi-core performance unless you use it for tasks like gaming or video rendering. The downside is that it doesn’t perform as well as AMD’s counterpart in tasks that require multi-core performance like rendering or 3D graphics design. Just look at the Asus Tuf Gaming A14, which features the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX370. It’s suitable for both gaming and graphic design, and when you’re not gaming, the battery life is fantastic. And speaking of battery life, I tested the battery using ThinkView’s standard test, which I apply to all laptop models under the same conditions of 250 nits brightness and 60Hz refresh rate. This Dell XPS 13 achieved around 7 hours. I believe this is a very decent number for a laptop with only a 55 Whr battery. This is partly thanks to the

extremely power-efficient Intel Core ULTRA 7. 268V and partly due to the tandem OLED display, which helps optimize power consumption compared to traditional OLED screens. Another important thing to take note here is that the Dell XPS 13 runs extremely cool. Even with the Intel Core Ultra 1st generation or earlier Intel chips, the machine’s surface rarely warmed up. But with this year processor, everything stays completely cool. I work very comfortably on this ultrabook, which is extremely thin, and I’m confident to say that almost all the ultrabooks equipped with this year Intel processor will also operate at a lower temperature. And, a cooler machine means fewer issues like battery swelling or degradation over time, something that has happened with the previous Dell XPS or Razer models. Regarding the graphics card, this is also a significant upgrade in the Intel Core ULTRA 200V series. My laptop runs an integrated 140V card,

which is 5% better in raw performance compared to the 890M on the AMD Ryzen AI 9. This is great news for Intel because they’ve often lagged behind AMD in this area. However, in terms of FPS in gaming, this Dell XPS 13 still lags behind the Vivobook S14, as the cooling system of the XPS is very limited. When gaming, both the CPU and GPU need to work, so the GPU’s performance can’t reach its full potential. I also checked out Dave2D’s channel, where he tested the 140V on a Lenovo laptop, and the FPS was indeed higher than the 890M on AMD. When more machines arrive, I’ll make more videos to test more games for you. In summary, the Intel Core ULTRA 200V series, specifically the 268V version I have here, is extremely power-efficient, stays very cool, and still has enough performance to handle gaming.
