Today I want to talk about three awesome notebook LM use cases for authors that I haven't talked about before. Now we're in the dashboard and I've already set some things up for you. I'm going to put all the prompts in the description of this video so that you can do it too. Let's jump into the first use case, which is uploading your whole novel into this tool so that you can get some insight into the themes, plot points that you might be missing, plot holes and gaps, or parts of a novel

or script or short story into this notebook LM tool to get feedback so that you can make it even better. Check this out. Okay, first of all, when you upload your whole novel into notebook LM and create an account, you get this neat little notebook section where it will give you

a summary of your novel. If you're not sure how to focus and make your novel more concise, if you're wondering what the theme is or the major topics that you cover in your story, just check out this section called key topics. This is going to give you the themes that AI picked

up in your novel, which can be really helpful in your second or third draft. This use case is where it gets very interesting and exciting. I've uploaded my whole novel called The Red House into notebook LM. Of course, only do this if you feel comfortable loading up all your

content into this AI tool. I did it because even though I've had this idea for a very long time, I actually used ChatGPT to help bring it to life. I came up with the idea, the characters, the premise, the plot. However, ChatGPT actually

helped me flesh out some of the plot points and make it a little bit more interesting. So if you want to give that a shot, I recommend you check out this use case.

brought it to life as a novel, so I feel comfortable putting this into another AI tool, in this case, nbook LM, so I uploaded it here and I asked for a podcast, but not just any podcast, because you can customize these podcasts. I've been playing around with this and it's

actually really, really cool. You get this nice summary here. This was created completely by AI. If you're curious about the core of your story, story here is what AI thinks it is. The AI not only comes up with the summary by itself, it also bolds information that it deems

especially pertinent. For example, going back to themes right here at the end, the AI says this narrative explores these themes: loyalty, betrayal, and the corrupting influence of power, which is absolutely true for this story. The custom prompt that I used for this particular use case was I told the AI

that it was going to be a commentary podcast that looked for holes and gaps and gave feedback basically on my story in hopefully a comedic and hilarious way. And since I've already listened to this before, at least parts of it, I can tell you that I really enjoy this podcast. It

not only gave me really good information that I can use to edit and upgrade my story for the next draft, but it was actually really fun to listen to. So think about that in your own stories as we listen to this podcast. All right, so you just finished "Red House" by

Christopher Kakosi. You're probably still trying to pick your jaw off the floor after that ending. Yeah, presidential thriller, shadowy figures, red Monopoly houses. It's like "House of Cards" met "Clue" and they had a very, very messed up baby. See, I, I didn't make any of this script

the AI is completely coming up with this on its own, but the information it's talking about with my story is accurate. It is quite a strange story, just so you know. The Red House is a story basically about the fact that there's a serial

killer in the White House. It's already a preposterous idea already, but I think it's a fun and interesting idea to explore at a novel, certainly a wild ride. Wild is one way to put it. Look, I love a good page-turner as much as the next

person. Yeah, even I had to raise an eyebrow at some of the twists and turns in this one. Yeah, it's like the author threw logic out the window and said, 'Hold my beer, watch this.' There are definitely some moments where I think there's some actually

really good jokes in this. Again, I didn't write it at all. The AI came up with all that on its own based on my prompting, and I think this idea of a funny and hilarious kind of way into feedback into your novel about plot holes and problems

is actually very effective. Where the suspension of disbelief requires some serious heavy lifting. Heavy lifting, I needed a whole team of structural engineers just to hold up the weight of some of these plot holes. But hey, that's what we're here for, right? Right? To dive

deep into the glorious mess that is The Red House and try to make sense of it all, or at least have a good laugh trying. Exactly. So, first things first, let's talk about our main man Ben. This guy's supposed to be a brilliant political

strategist, but honestly, he's more like a walking, talking plot device with a side of superhuman abilities. So the feedback is very fair here. And think about how helpful this can be, going back and enhancing/editing the character to be less of a plot device and to make

sure that everything that happens in the story is organic and logical. One minute he's cracking codes like he's Neo from *The Matrix*. Oh, come on! The next he's disappearing into thin air like a ninja. Don't forget the lock-picking. Remember that scene where he casually strolls

into a top-secret government facility? Oh, yeah, like he's picking up dry cleaning. Please, uh-huh. I've struggled more trying to open a jar of pickles. It does seem like whenever Ben encounters an obstacle, the author just conveniently equips him with the exact skill needed

to overcome it, right? It's a bit like playing a video game where you unlock new abilities as you progress through the levels, except in this game, the cheat codes are written directly into the storyline. Now, if I hadn't had AI help so much with the writing of this, it

might hurt more to hear some of this feedback, because it's fair feedback. I believe, but I'm able to be more objective about the feedback because, um, although I directed AI, AI did the heavy lifting. I think this is really fun to listen to, and also, it's great insight

into how to edit your novel. I see what you're saying. Speaking of cheats, can we talk about those red Monopoly houses for a minute? Okay, look, I get it, they're supposed to be... Okay, the red Monopoly houses that you could probably tell the

cover of the book that I put on the screen, it plays a huge role. Not only is it the title of the novel, but it's a symbol and I really like it because I figured, you know, like almost everybody is familiar with this: a little red

Monopoly house. A lot of people have played the game, they might have the game at their house right now, and I use it in a lot of different ways. They actually think it's a great symbol for this story. I'm curious about what they'll say, be

creepy and symbolic and all that, yeah, but honestly, they just left me more confused than scared. Their purpose seems to shift throughout the story. Yeah, are they warnings, taunts, a morbid game of connect the dots? Right, even Ben seems unsure of their meaning half the time.

It's like the author just thought, 'Hey, hey, red Monopoly houses, that's spooky, right? Let's just sprinkle them around and see what happens.' They do add a certain theatrical flare to the story, I'll grant you that. Theatrical, yes, but also incredibly distracting. Again, the

feedback is very fair. I think you get the idea that look, in less than 17 minutes, you can get really good feedback to help you edit your novel or your story or your script, and you can do it in a very entertaining way. And you can customize these prompts and change the

tone and focus of the podcast in probably unlimited ways. So that's a huge use case for this notebook LM, but there's another one I want to show you and that takes us to use case number two. Let's say you don't have a full story

yet you just have your plot outline and you're wondering what are some ways to flesh out this outline into a full novel what are different ways maybe creative ways to approach converting this outline into a book so that's what I did with this particular use case I used ChatGPT to

come up with a story outline and it's called Love In Reverse it's a Hallmark style romcom type of a romance story I fed this outline into Notion AI and this time with the focus prompt I asked the Notion AI to create a podcast

with the focus on how to take this outline and make it into a full-fledged story a few minutes later I got this 14-minute podcast all right so you've got this plot outline right it's for a Hallmark romance Called Love In Reverse and you're ready to you want to turn it

into a full novel well today we're diving deep into how to how to bring that story blueprint to life inject some humor and depth into it and make it really sing that's exactly what we want I really like the idea of a plot outline

being a blueprint for your story it's exciting what's so cool about this outline is the premise is really unique you don't see this every day in Hallmark romances it's true look I unironically enjoy Hallmark-type romances I know

they're really cliche they're really cringy sometimes but I really do enjoy them so I wanted to play around with that idea with this novel outline I did instruct ChatGPT to sort of turn all the regular tropes and cliches on their

Hey we've got a gruff tattooed auto mechanic and then we've got this like polished perfect etiquette coach and they're forced to teach each other their skills you know because of a bet opposites attract right talk about opposites attract

Attract right right exactly because this is just a plot outline you might not exactly know what your story is going to be in the end how it's going to come out so what's neat here is this summary again where we have the title Love In

Reverse it's a description a nice little summary of the story here is what the AI thinks is the focus of this story based on the outline a clash between a rough around the edges auto mechanic and a refined etiquette coach that's the focus

of the romance then we get how does this story start what's the catalyst for the plot it's bolded in this summary a bet forces them to teach each other their respective skills that's good to know to be able to write the story you got to

know what the catalyst is and then there's a subplot that's very common in these kinds of stories but it's twisted a little bit here with the type of business we're talking about the subplot involves saving a local car repair shop from big city developers usually this is

like a small town bakery that needs to be saved on Christmas Day something along those lines this is a local car repair shop so it's the same idea it's just a little bit different you have familiarity but you also have something new so hopefully that's intriguing to

the reader great and the cool thing is this outline uses the Save the Cat beat sheet which helps us to really break down the story's progression Save the Cat is a book that's been around for a long time it's really written for screenwriters for movies but I think

it's really helpful also for plotting out any kind of story there are sequels and spin-offs to that book like Save the Cat Goes to the Movies Save the Cat for Authors but honestly I think the original is the very best I highly recommend it I'll probably put a link in

the description so you can check it out and see it clearly exactly so how do we take that blueprint and and really make it sing you know yeah that's the question how do we make it come alive well it starts with the opening image right the outline it places us in this

chaotic car repair shop I think like grease heavy metal music clang of tools and then and then imagine this impeccably dressed etiquette coach walking into that scene oh the contrast I mean just the contrast alone comedy gold think about how this could really

help you write that scene and how they're talking about all the colorful contrast they're talking about the noises the the visual the auditory there's probably smells of grease and different things the etiquette coach probably is well-manicured and has nice cologne on and the auto mechanic might be

greasy and sweaty just them talking about it on this podcast can really help you write out and not only visualize the scene but write the scene so that the reader can visualize and it's not just like a visual thing right it's not just that clash of aesthetics it speaks to to

something deeper about our main characters Tessa and Garrett, exactly their worlds are completely opposite. It reflects, you know, their personalities, their backstories. Like Tessa's hands-on, right? Mechanic, probably grew up around cars. Maybe she had to learn to fix things herself, you know, whereas Garrett

he might come from this world of privilege. I really like how the AI puts personality and emotion in the two podcasters because without that, this, I think, would be very dry and a lot less interesting. But I really enjoy the different inflections and tone.

eyes, appearances, social graces are everything, right? Everything's about appearances. The outline mentions um, a bet, yes, as kind of the catalyst that throws them together. How how do we make that feel organic though? Not not just like oh, this is a contrived plot device.

Right, well, that's where the debate section of the beat sheet comes in. It's not just about them saying yes or no to the bet. It's their internal struggle, like why would Tessa, a very practical person, why would she even entertain this? Maybe she needs needs the

money or maybe there's a part of her that's like intrigued by Garrett. You know, despite his his fancy exterior. Well, here we're talking about how to make this catalyst, this trigger to the story very organic and make sense, that be logical. Let the characters be motivated.

be in contact with each other so they don't just walk away and the story is suddenly over. So that's really important. They go into some detail here. I'm going to jump ahead a little bit. All those story threads coming together. This is where it all comes together, all those

quirky townspeople we created, yeah. They rally around Tessa and Garrett, the hairdresser creates a buzz around town, the retired mechanic offers his expertise, yeah, and get this, the dog groomer, she finds Muffler. Oh, no way! Remember Muffler? 

He ran away during the storm, and he's... we have subplots in these secondary characters that are adding life and realism to this story. It's all good, it helps you to really bring this story to life. Let's listen to a little bit more 

before we go to the next use case. Ooh, Sparks Fly! Exactly. This has been so much fun. It's amazing how we took this basic outline and now it feels like a real story. It's ready to be written. It is! It just goes to show that with a little 

creativity, anyone can turn a blueprint into a captivating novel. The Beat Sheet is a great guide, but it's the writer's voice that truly brings it to life. Let's thumbs up that. That's a really interesting use case, but sometimes you don't have a full story, you don't even 

have an outline, you might not even have a story idea itself, a premise at all. Maybe all you have is a setting, or all you have is a conflict. Sometimes all you have is a character sketch, and that brings us to our next use case. You can 

take your character sketch and feed it into Notebook LM and customize a prompt. The Notebook LM AI to create a podcast that explores your character to make them more well-rounded and three-dimensional, but also starts to brainstorm ideas on how can you put this character into a 

really great story organically which is what I did now all the prompts will be in the description of this video so I came up with a particular uh character here Aara Echo Veent 27 year old urban artifact salvager and I came up with it with

again chpt just to save time again you have bolded areas of this summary of the character that allow you to know what the AI thought was most important this seems like maybe a dystopian kind of a character maybe science fiction we'll see what the AI podcast has to say about

it all right so we're diving deep today into a character right Aara Alara Echoen Echoen yeah and you know as as storytellers as writers we know that the the secret to it to a great character uhuh is you got to have the good and the

bad The Good the Bad and the Ugly all of it all the all the warts all that exactly exactly we're going to unpack what what you've brought to us today okay and we're going to figure out how to build a story that feels like it's

grown organically out of this character so every plot point every detail every relationship yeah everything by the way for this prompt to customize this podcast I told the AI that they were two best-selling authors who helped aspiring writers take a character sketch flesh out the character

and then turn that character into a story resonates with with who this character is at their core that's the goal I love it so you have Aara who is an urban artifact salvager I mean right there that's that's a cool job that's

Cool job title that's amazing. Yeah, that that says so much about her. It does. It does. Someone who sifts through the remnants of society, finds beauty in the things that other people discard. That's really says a lot. Yeah, says a lot. And I think it's quite a beautiful sentiment.

And that is ripe with storytelling potential. Yeah, and you know as writers we know that the setting can be just as important as the character, right? So you're already kind of creating this this world, this atmosphere just by giving her that job title, right? Yeah, it's a world where there are remnants.

There's a past, there's a history. Yeah, and she's finding value in that. Yeah, absolutely. You've also given her a very striking physical appearance, right? Well, I think that's important. Okay, you know as a writer you want to create a character that that readers can really

see in their mind's eye. And so I always think about those visual details. You've given her that silver to blue hair. I mean that's pretty cool. It's cool. It's very unique, right? And also that's helpful for not only one story, but if

you want to make this a series character, making them really stand out visually can really matter. And then taking that story and maybe converting it to a movie or a TV series, that can really help too. Yeah, and then the mismatched eyes, you said one is smoky gray, one is

deep amber. Yeah, and you've also given her a scar. Ah, the scar, yes. No, that's you got to have a scar. I mean, it's like an immediate hook. It is. As soon as you say scar, everyone's like, 'Oh, what's the story?' That's true. Scars are like that. Now

they're kind of overused but they're used so often because they work they often work yeah exactly yep so you know you as a writer you know this visual details they're not just description they're breadcrumbs they are they're leading us into this character's past

yeah they spark questions in the reader's mind they're planting seeds of intrigue from the very first moment we meet her I'm going to jump ahead just a little bit but you're probably already starting to get a sense of how helpful this can be exactly out from behind her humor like

she's carrying something yeah she's got a weight there's a weight there a little baggage yeah a little baggage and then there's this this habit of talking to inanimate objects yeah that's one of my favorites and I'm intrigued by that what's that about is that a coping

mechanism I mean is it yeah is it a coping mechanism is it a way to connect with the past or is it something else entirely could it be a little quirky yeah it could be it could be a little too quirky like maybe alienate some

readers possibly you know as a writer you're always walking that tightrope this is important feedback as an author so maybe you want to scale that back reel it in maybe even take that part out of this character because you do want the character to be memorable quirky

interesting different but not to be so different as to alienate the reader let's jump ahead a little bit more I mean the big question is right let's get to the story how do we build an or let's get to the story organic story from all

Oh, you've already laid the groundwork, right? You've got these elements that are so rich, so full of potential. So we're almost done with the podcast, we're just now getting to the story idea. The focus of this particular podcast was really the character and building that

character out. But once you have your character intact, you could feed that character or characters into Notion LM and ask just a quick and dirty brainstorm of ideas for this character or characters. I think the key is to remember that the most compelling stories, they arise organically from a

character's inner conflicts and desires. Very true. So you know Lara's job as an urban artifact salvager, it's not just a quirky profession, it's a reflection of her own search for meaning. Yeah, her attempt to piece together not only the stories of these objects, but also the

fractured pieces of her own past. I like that. And her moral code, her fierce independence. Yes, these qualities will inevitably lead her into conflict. Oh, absolutely. What if, if she uncovers an artifact that reveals a dark secret about the commune she escaped from? Yeah.

So now we have a specific and concrete idea that we didn't have when we began. So you could take that idea and you could run with it. And for whatever reason you don't exactly like that idea, you could take parts of the idea or you could just redo the podcast, give maybe

tweak your custom prompt a little bit to get some different kinds of ideas. Now think about doing this: so you have your character sketch, you fed that into Notion LM and you got a story idea. You take that story idea, you feed it back into Notion LM, and you get a plot

outline from the podcast, then you take that plot outline, feed it back into the notebook LM. The little custom prompting you can take that outline and get some ideas on how to turn that into either a more detailed outline or a full-fledged story. Then, once you have your story, 

maybe you've written your story by yourself or with the help of AI, then you can feed that back to your, you can feed it chapter by chapter, scene by scene, or the whole novel like I did into notebook LM and get some feedback so that you can
