this seller sold over $330,000 on Etsy in the month of July, which is supposedly one of the slowest months of the entire year. And she's only been selling print on demand for a little bit over a year and got to keep 30% of that in profit. Yes, that's right, in profits. That's about $9,000 she got to actually keep, and again, has only been doing this for one year. And she didn't even have to print or ship anything herself because she's using a process called print on demand. Print on demand is a process where you create the designs and upload them on Etsy, but they don't actually get made into a product until someone orders it. And when a customer does order your product, a company like Printify will actually print that item for you, ship it to your customer. And so all you have to do is handle the customer service and list more products for sale in your store. Thank you so much for joining me. I'm so excited for you to join me in this video. You've had just an amazing July, and I know that the viewers are going to want to learn each and every bit of what you did to get there. So why don't you go ahead and tell us a little bit about when you got started with print on demand. Yeah, thank you for having me, Cassie, and I just wanted to say I really appreciate everything that you've taught me in the course, and I think that everyone should join her course because

I seriously saw such good results. I just wanted to say that um but I started like mid last year and so yeah I'm a little bit over a year into my business and yeah that's where I'm at right now um it was definitely a slow start for me um like everybody says it's a lot of work in the beginning I was like I think a shaa like making pennies per hour I felt like that was me for the first like six months it was quite a while before I started really seeing sales and it was actually when I joined your course that I started seeing like more of a gradual increase in sales so yeah I mean obviously I wish everybody could make sales their first month two months three months but the reality is it does take a lot of people a few months to really start seeing success so if you guys are watching this at home and you're feeling that way like you're not alone and I'll link Shauna's interview down in the description for anyone who doesn't know.

who she's talking about. CA Sean is another one of my students that took her like nine months to really start getting consistent sales, and a lot of people kind of drop out before then and even quit. So, what really motivated you to keep going in that time when you weren't really actually getting the results for all the work you were putting in? Yeah, uh, I would say one is have your why. Um, my why was obviously the same reasons that a lot of people have, is having like financial freedom, having more time, not trading your time for money. Yeah, my why is also because I want to start a family, and we would like to have me at home and being able to be there for the family, and yeah, just having more free time. It would be amazing. And so, like, that was kind of like in the back of my mind, like pushing me day-to-day when I was like having a hard time because I'm still working, and I was working, you know, full-time for quite a while, and it was just really hard like getting through a

eight to five job. And I didn't mention this to you earlier, but I actually had to drive 45 minutes to and from work as well. And so, I was doing like a full-time job, then coming home after work and working like hours, just eating dinner, showering, going to bed, doing it all over again. But like having that why in the back of your head is like one of the things that I did. And then another thing is watch videos every day. I watched your videos like every day, along with other YouTubers. Shauna, she was another good one. You guys are just like so positive. I feel like I even cried sometimes because I was just like so motivated and just like ready to like tackle it, like after watching people going through like the same thing, like knowing that you went through the same thing and it is possible. So, um, when you're feeling like you're going through that rut, like just watch videos like Cassie's where it just like helps to bring that like, I don't know, positive out of you. Oh my gosh, you

are just so sweet. Oh my goodness. And I don't think you're alone, especially when you first get started. It's really lonely, you know, doing this on your own. You don't know anyone else that's doing it. And so I know when you joined my course, the Pod Roadmap, you get to have that community. And I know when I first joined my first mentorship group from the Life Hacker couple when I first got started with print on demand, that was such a game-changer for me, just to have other people kind of knowing what I'm going through, you know. So let's see what that looked like. What did you end up selling in 2023 when you got started last year? I know it took you a few months to really get it going, but I think you started getting some sales and picking up a little bit towards the end of the year. What did 2023 end up looking like for you? Um, before I go into the numbers, I just wanted to say the community that you have on Discord

really helped me get through as well. Like going back to that last question, like before I joined the community, it was like YouTube videos, and I felt like I kind of knew you guys CU. I was watching so many of your videos and just getting motivated by that. But then when I joined the Discord group, it's just like a whole another world. You could ask questions, and you just felt like you weren't alone, and you felt like you had the help that you needed to like push through. So, it's awesome what you're doing. But yeah, the numbers. So, when I first started, like I said, it took me probably a couple months to get my first organic sale, and then I didn't see another sale until a couple weeks later, and it started trickling in. I've seen that on some of your other interviews. That's pretty normal for that to happen. But then when I took your course, I think I was only at like 100 listings, and I was only at probably like, I want to say like 50 sales, maybe.

and then after that, it just skyrocketed. I feel like, like gradually, but it was like increasing every month. So I was going from a few sales a month to maybe one sale a day, and then I was like, Oh my gosh, I'm getting daily sales. This is so cool. And then it would go to like between one and five sales, and then between five and ten. It just slowly like increased. And then, um, when Q4 happened, I was doing all the tricks that you taught us to prepare like in advance, everything like that. And I think Q4, I had my first 15K revenue month, and I was just really excited about that, like in my first year. So that was really cool. And then January dropped down a little bit and stuff like that, like it normally does, but it stayed more steady. So I was like, Okay, just keep going, keep putting in the work, doing all the things that you tell us to do. And then, yeah, it wasn't until the last couple months that it like really jumped. But yeah, well

and I know we wanted to kind of do this video to help other people hit their first $30,000 month because how crazy that in the Christmas season last year you had your first $15,000 month and that was crazy and then in the month of July you doubled it. So I think that really goes to show how much hard work you have put into your business and I absolutely cannot wait to see what you do Q4 this year. But let's focus on maybe what some actionable takeaways for people watching this video can be to kind of get to where you are now. What do you think are some of the things that really went into bringing your shop from getting a sale every couple of weeks to like slowly growing but then growing it to a $30,000 month? What do you think you really did in the last few months that made all the difference to get this big month? Yeah definitely so I think what really helped is one I prepared like you said 8 to 12 weeks ahead for what's

coming up next, which for this time was back to school. So, I did a lot of preparing for like back to school. I prepared for like occupations and stuff like that, like people graduating. So, yeah, preparing ahead, that's a big one. And then the art of like combining things. You showed us a book, what is it called, The Laws of Creativity. Yeah, so I think that is just so cool. I feel like my brain finally, it just clicked somehow. Like, you don't have to come up with something brand new to the market to like stand out. You can definitely find like what Cassie teaches is you can create an inspo board. So, you can find like best sellers and just look, okay, what design styles are selling. Make yourself a board and then just like study it. Like, okay, this retro design is doing well, this college block is doing well. Like, you know, the list goes on. Make that board, really study it, and then think like, okay, how can I combine these things to make something new, but it's already like

proven to sell, so yeah, I definitely learned that from you, and it really works, so thank you. Yeah, combining things, and then obviously like niching down, you hear about that all the time, and then personalization. So, I did kind of like all of those things prepared ahead of time. I combined things, I niched down, and I added personalization. Oh, and groups, yeah, group orders. We were talking about that earlier, something that I didn't even really like realize that I designed for was group stuff because it actually wasn't intended to be group, but it was kind of sort of that thing where like teams wanted to buy it and stuff like that. And um, so yeah, it made me want to like make a lot more group stuff because that's where a lot of the sales are coming from, is like group orders. Oh my gosh, yeah, group orders make all the difference. I remember so vividly the first time I ever got an order for 10 shirts all at once. I think it was my first time ever getting 10 sales in a

day because group orders are just that crazy. And I know you didn't really intend to do those at first, but I know you were telling me before that now because of some of your teacher shirts kind of taking off as group shirts and people buying five or 10 or 15 shirts all at once. You've started getting into other niches and making group shirts for more. Is that a strategy that you kind of plan on keeping as you go forward with other kind of like holidays and things coming up? Definitely. Once I saw the power of group shirts, I know you talk about it all the time, and it is something that takes longer to do. It is a little bit of a pain, but it pays off. It's just so, so worth it. Yeah, so I mean, I started adding Bachelorette listings and niching down in those, and then I also started adding like, you know, birthday, anything that you can think of that like would be matching shirts. It's so worth doing. Um, so going forward into the holiday season, I want to like

combine some of those things, but like with the holiday and group, so yeah, that's going to definitely be one of my strategies. Yeah, I don't see this being your last 30k month of the year by any means, because I think once you learn some of the smaller pieces that seem really simple, like combining different trends and doing group shirts, you know, they all sound so easy. It's like, okay, well, what's the actual secret? Well, there isn't one. It's just listing really consistently, doing your research, and getting a little bit better every day. Once you learn some of those skills, now you'll be able to apply maybe those same design styles that you made to the upcoming holidays and things like that. So, and I think that's really interesting, and I know some of the questions that people are going to have about how you really had this 30k month. Okay, so you went over doing group listings, made a really big difference, combining some different trends, and not going too crazy with the designs, right? Let's talk

about that really quick. What did the design process look like for you in the beginning, maybe when you weren't having as much success, and then now that you are getting a lot of sales? I think you were saying that's changed a little bit. Yeah, definitely. In the beginning, I think I didn't have very much direction, and I didn't know how to search for things that are trending. And honestly, joining your course and the trend reports that you put out every month, that was just so helpful because you kind of did the work for us and helped do the research and taught us how to do our own research as well moving forward. But really teaching us what is trending now, how to find what is trending now, and put it out now because that's what's selling right now. Because that, yeah, that is just so important. Yeah, it really can make a big difference. I see a lot of people making a ton of designs for what's trending or the holiday coming up, and then they don't list them for sale, one ever, which I

think is so silly or they wait weeks to list it, and it can take a few weeks for your listings to really start taking off, so you do have to just take action and list them. So, I'm glad that you started doing that. And what do that look like really in the last few months for you listings-wise? You know, do you do a certain amount of listings every day or every week? Like, how much work are you really putting into this to hit a $30,000 revenue month? In the beginning, when I was working my full-time job, it was really hard for me, especially because I was learning everything too. It took me a long time to do one listing. I was probably putting out my goal then was like two listings a day. I was like, If I can get two listings a day, I'm going to feel pretty good about it, especially working a full-time job. I recently went down to part-time, so now I have a couple extra days to just work on the business, so I'm getting out

anywhere from like six listings to like 15 listings a day. Um, and that has really, really helped. It takes a lot less time now, now that I kind of have everything worked out and I know the process and all the little tips that people give and that you give, like duplicating listings and having templates and just kind of having your flow. You're able to get a lot more out, yeah. And then also like not wasting time, like doing too much research. You want to like find something that's selling right now or like find, you know, do your market research, but don't spend so much time where you're just like thinking about it. Like you got to take action is like what you're saying, and that's what I do. I try to think in my mind, I'm like, okay, take action today. Like you're not going to make any sales is doing all this research. Like it's important, it's the key part, but you've got to take action on that and like quick too. So yeah, sometimes research can

turn into something that I don't think I made it up, but I've heard it. People call it procrast to working. Yes, you think you're working, but you're really procrastinating. Let's be honest. So, give yourself timelines like, you know, you've got 20 minutes to research this niche and see what other people are selling, and then you have to go make your own version or eight and list them for sale. Yeah, exactly. Got to take action. I think about that all the time. I'm like, am I taking up too much time right now? Yep, just take action. Just do it, even if it's like not perfect. And I think that was another problem in the beginning too. A lot of people want things to be perfect. I'm kind of a perfectionist sometimes, and I wanted it to be everything perfect before I put it out. But like once I heard you say just take action, it's not going to be perfect, but as you go, it'll get better and better, like the more you practice. So, you

know you just have to, yeah, like I said, take action, yeah. Eventually, you know, I think we were talking about this before we hopped on the video too, you know, when you're first getting started, you have no idea what sells well or what's trendy. But as you look and as you research, you start to really understand it, and you really feel something click that you're like, Oh, what if I can combine this thing with this thing? And that's not going to come immediately; like, it just takes a while to build that up in your brain. And I know you're saying that you can kind of feel that now; you're like, Oh, I can do these things together. And that's when the magic really starts happening. But let's get into some of the details that can really help other people watching this find the same success that you found. Have you run any ads to get the sales you've had? I have. I was really scared to start in the beginning, and I kind of just did.

what some people were saying on YouTube start with like $3 a day. Um, as long as you have done the market research and you think that your designs are actually going to sell and you've done the correct steps, you know, your SEO, your titles and tags, all of that, making sure that it's correct. You, I think ads can be really, really helpful because it can give you an idea of what is actually selling in a way because it'll, it'll show your numbers, like how many people are clicking on it and stuff, and it'll help it get into the algorithm faster too, so you get more data on it, and then that way you can make more of what you see is doing better quicker. So, that's what's helped me with ads. But yeah, it is scary, but it's worth it. So, that makes sense that you ran some ads to get to where you are. I think that makes perfect sense. I know a lot of people might be also wondering what types of products you're selling. I think because a lot of

people think shirts are oversaturated, but you're a pretty new seller, and I think you've found success with some shirts. Have you sold just shirts, mainly shirts? Have you sold any other items? What does that look like for you? Yeah, I actually am selling mostly just shirts and sweatshirts, um, and then I'm slowly dabbling into, like, a couple other products now that I'm far enough into the business to know what um, designs are selling for me, and then I'm kind of like putting those on other items. But yeah, I was mostly selling shirts and sweatshirts and um, comfort colors lately. Comfort colors is just killing it, so just thought I'd throw that out there. I was just about to ask you, so that's perfect. You're selling mostly Comfort color shirts. Yeah, they weren't available when I first started with print on demand. All there really was was Gilden and Bella canvas, so I'm really glad because they are really, really nice shirts. And are you using the Gilden 18,000 sweatshirt, or are you using

Comfort colors. I use both; it depends on the design, though. Um, I know the Comfort colors is pretty pricey, but if I think it's kind of like um, like a retro or vintage design, that'll look good on more of like the Comfort colors. Put it onto a comfort color shirt or sweatshirt. But if it's just like a design that I think could go on just like any sweatshirt, I use the Gilden because that sells really well. Yeah, I think both are great. I've never actually sold the Comfort color sweatshirts myself. I've sold mostly the Gilden sweatshirts. That's been my probably top number one product I've ever sold, which is crazy. Um, so that's really cool that those are the products that you kind of mainly focused on because again, a lot of people think they're more oversaturated, but I hope that this is really inspiring to you watching that there's still opportunity there. You know, this is her first time having a $30,000 month selling a product.

in the middle of July, that's supposed to be slow. That if you add value and list in advance, that you really can still find success. Etsy is a great opportunity still to this day. It's not like it's already passed us by. And the thing I forgot to ask you earlier was, I'm sure some people are really wondering, like, sure, you sold $30,000 in revenue in July, but what did you actually get to keep in profit? So, I got to keep about 30% of my profit. So, yeah, still amazing. Honestly, this month, I made way more than what I make at my 9 to 5. I was like, man, I want to quit my job today. But I'm trying to be smart about it and make sure that it's staying steady for a while before I quit my job. But yeah, really exciting. Wow, good for you. And even getting to go down to part-time is so huge. You're definitely on track to reach your goals, and it really is a testament to you really putting in the

work and showing up every single day, even when it's not easy. And you could have given up and thought, Oh, this is oversaturated. Oh, this isn't for me. This doesn't actually work. But you spent the months, you took the time, you learned how to do it, and now here you are, so super excited to see how your Q4 goes. I'd love to have you back on after Q4 for an update interview if you'd be up for it, and really see how the holiday season ended up going for you. I would love to.
