[Music] Known for her roles on The Originals, NCIS Hawaii, and The Chosen, Y Alami was born in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, to a Palestinian-Jordanian father and a Filipino mother. Growing up in Texas, Bami's job in finance was boring enough for her to dig for something more exciting. I had never taken acting classes or anything, but I knew to get auditions you needed an agent, so I just emailed all the Dallas agents, and one of them was so sweet, emailed me back, and she said, 'Well, you don't have... I was sending in my business resume too. I didn't even have an acting resume. Um, I was like, 'This is where I went to university. I have a finance degree. None of that. They don't care.' And she goes, 'Well, clearly you have no idea what you're doing. Go to class, class, and here are some acting class recommendations.' And then from that, I just kept taking classes in Dallas, then moved to LA. I was sent to Hebrew school like you, so that's exactly what I learned from Mar.

First, it's not like we're trying to be teachers or anything. We just want to learn more, starting with a word liner in a health-related commercial. She made her television debut in The Originals as the recurring role of Monique Deo, a season one villain. By now, she's a star in the popular action show NCIS Hawaii and the groundbreaking historical drama show The Chosen, which recently made its way to the theater. On The Chosen, I play Rama, is my character, and when you meet her, it's in season 1. I'm in one of the episodes, episode 5, and I basically work with Thomas, the disciple, and we have a little bit of a romance there. We're very flirtatious with each other, and then you start to see that develop from seasons 2 to now. The season that is out right now is season 4. On NCIS Hawaii, I play an agent, and we are currently filming season three. I love my character, actually. I play Lucy. [Music] Tara.

Part of the challenges Yasine faced in her journey was gaining the approval of her parents and finding roles true to her ethnicity, both of which eventually got better. One proof is her upcoming project representing women of color in the comedy show Immigrant. We just finished the pilot, and that is by my friend Mustafa Knight, and it's basically how we have described it. It's like 'Friends' but with color. I've never been more proud to be an immigrant because now I also have an outlet to express that to people through storytelling.
