NARRATOR: Next, we go to the Hamilton County Courthouse in Cincinnati, Ohio. The defendant, Deandre Kelley, has pled guilty to reckless homicide. Three months earlier, Kelley got into an argument with his girlfriend, the mother of his child, Christina Lanza. Kelley left the home but later returned intoxicated. When Lanza turned him away, Kelley fired at the house, accidentally hitting his 11-year-old daughter, Shanti, who was upstairs having a sleepover. Shanti dies, and her father was arrested. Although considered an accident, Kelley was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter and was looking at the possibility of up to 20-plus years in prison. Now Kelley's agreed to plead to a lesser charge of reckless homicide as well as a weapons charge. But when Judge Nadene Allen sentences Kelley to six years, Shanti's family is furious, not because they believe the sentence is too short but rather too long.

[arguing] One family member so upset, she's taken away in cuffs. Danielle Lott, the victim's aunt, as well as Shanti's own mother, Christina, are then both hauled before the judge. Both women were allegedly disruptive as they were exiting the courtroom. The judge is not happy. I didn't scream. I talked to-- What about my-- my kids? NARRATOR: As Lock pleads your case, Lanza's daughter can be heard screaming from the gallery. I don't have nobody to get my kids. [screaming] Both women were taken into custody. Let me go. I didn't yell, and you know I didn't yell. NARRATOR: Despite Lott's protests, Judge Allen defends her decision. After I advised them specifically that they said one more word, shouted one more time, screamed one more time, disrupted the court one more time,

I would find them in contempt. [dramatic music] NARRATOR: The next day after Lott and Lanza spend the night in jail, they returned to Judge Allen's courtroom. But this time, they expressed far more remorse. JUDGE: You're still grieving, you said? Yes. JUDGE: I understand you are grieving. I know. NARRATOR: Judge Allen would show sympathy. Both women were released the following day. As for Kelley, he was taken to an Ohio correctional facility to begin his six-year sentence.
