The first people who established this place thought of it as a forest. However, that is a misconception. This is a tree that is widely used in Korea. It has 3,618 pillars and is 1.5 times larger than a soccer field, earning it a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the widest tree. The width of the tree represents the desire for light; it can receive the most light at once on Earth. 

In early spring, this plant does not need light, water, or nutrients. Therefore, it does not even develop roots. After other plants sprout, it clears its own sprouts. As soon as it emerges, it looks for something. It has a time limit of at least three days; if it does not find anything within that time, it will die. Just as its strength is about to fade, the movement of the plant it has seized stops. This plant feeds on the fluids of other plants.

In reality, parasitic plants absorb all their energy from other organisms. However, in the real world, parasites have no eyes. To them, no matter how much the world offers, real life is about finding sustenance. Just like a leech, which also has no eyes and moves outward to find the most open space, the leech's prey is warm-blooded animals. To a leech, warm-blooded animals appear as warm sources. This is because they can detect heat. 

It calculates the position and speed of its prey, and even without eyes, it can sense heat to locate its food. So, how does the parasite find its prey? On the right, there's a real tomato that the parasite likes, and on the left, there's a tomato scent.

And it really doesn't smell like tomatoes. Where will the real world go? Well, in reality, animals smell and suck up bodily fluids. And those fluids are created through sunlight and water. The grateful pig that has cooled down begins to learn. The first thing a sunbathing lizard does in the morning is to soak up the sun. Hospital animals need sunlight to move because cells must be activated by light. Plants also cannot survive without light. In a forest full of numerous competitors, if they grow at the same speed as others, they will lose access to light. Bamboo can grow as much as one meter in a day. The secret to such rapid growth lies in its special stem. Bamboo has solid pillars that ordinary plants do not have, but instead, it has growth points at every joint.

Simultaneously, it will do well. Thanks to the strong stem that can withstand 20 meters, it has become the plant that approaches light the fastest. The leaves hunt for light. Although they appear to be stationary, they are constantly chasing after the light. Therefore, having holes in the leaves can be fatal. However, some plants intentionally create holes. Light is everywhere, but it is not fair to all. The areas with the most sunlight are monopolized by tall trees in the dark forest. This is how peculiar leaves are born. What is the reason that some leaves create holes? It is to block light and climb up trees like the vine known as Rapido. However, as this happens, the leaves on the left end up blocking sunlight from reaching the lower leaves, causing a problem.

The sunlight pours in through the densely packed ceiling, creating a warm atmosphere. Plants have solved this problem by sharing light from the upper leaves through the holes in them to the lower leaves. Of course, the leaves with holes may be damaged, but the overall amount of light that all the leaves can receive increases significantly. Without light, individual sacrifices can help the whole survive. It appears to be a peaceful landscape; however, there are still lingering challenges. Currently, it is the dry season, peaking in October, and this region experiences wildfires once every four years. Wallabies were searching among the ashes for unburned leaves. This peaceful scene is also accompanied by thick smoke. Yet, during this harsh period, there are animals that come here to rest—about 200,000 of them are accustomed to this environment.

It seems that these creatures have gathered here. The palm trees provide shade, and these palm trees only grow in this area, thanks to the Waterhouse River. Water springs up from underground and does not dry up even in the dry season. The bats come here searching for water. The temperature at noon reaches 42 degrees, and it is not easy for the bats to endure in such heat. 

Some bats find the perfect spot inside the palm leaves, but those that can't must seek them out. This leads to some bats becoming active. 

Exhausted from the struggle for space and the heat, the bats can move towards the nearby water source that does not dry up. Bats that cannot drink water directly wet their bodies in the river and then go to a safe place to lick the water off their bodies, trying to quench their thirst as the evening approaches.

At this time, eyes are watching Park Joo-hye's movements in the water. As time passes, the increasing number of bats prioritizes quenching their thirst over the danger to their lives. The peak of Park Ji-woong reveals both failures and successes. The sky is painted red with lightning every day, forcing the bats to leap into the river, risking their lives. This is the starting point. Plants live next to the river but have no shade to escape the sunlight, nor can they jump into the water. Unlike bats, plants cannot fly to drink water. The algae that cling to the rocks appear to have turned yellow, seemingly lifeless. However, the algae are merely curling up their bodies. If they are not there, they must create a larger structure on their own. Moreover, there is water right in front of them, but they cannot drink it.

Plants that cannot move have to endure drought for much longer than animals. Even the twisted-bodied dog’s tail plants are still alive, continuing to wait. If they are not dead, plants can grow again. 

The changes that occur in just a few hours make it seem like the plants are coming back to life. This is why they are sometimes called resurrection plants. 

In a fiercely competitive environment, plants can grow in unexpected places. This plant is in a location that is hard to imagine. The fact that this plant has bloomed while balancing on a tightrope means it is living healthily in this place. How can it survive here, without water or even soil? It has prepared a water reservoir using ketos. The modified leaves also serve as a rainwater collector. Thanks to this savings for an uncertain future, a precarious life of tightrope walking is possible.

Insects are lured into a trap and harvested. Small insects like mosquitoes are mainly used as bait. However, water has surface tension, which prevents light objects from sinking. So how can we drown mosquitoes? 

Surface tension occurs due to the attractive forces between water molecules. This is also why raindrops are round. Therefore, mosquitoes do not get wet when they encounter raindrops; they bounce off instead. Even if they hit a raindrop head-on, the result is the same. They momentarily lose their balance but soon fly away again. 

Helianthus, a type of surfactant, is created to eliminate surface tension. Thanks to this ingredient, Helianthus can drown mosquitoes. When water is involved, nutrients are lost. Helianthus controls the water to obtain nutrients.

Borneo is primarily known for its limestone regions, which are one of the places on Earth that receive the most rainfall. The rain washes away not only the limestone but also the nutrients in the soil. Additionally, this area is home to some of the oldest tropical rainforests on the planet. Moreover, there are no volcanoes to bring minerals up from the ground to enrich the soil. While sunlight and water are abundant, the soil is limited. As a result, plants here have developed unique structures to obtain nutrients. 

From the beginning, this stem tries to grab onto something. If there’s nothing to hold onto, it creates a spring to support its weight because the end of the stem will become heavy later on. The Nepenthes species has diversified into various forms to compensate for the lack of nutrients.

이 네펜데스 주변에는 흰 개미 종류인 터마이트가 많습니다. 크기가 1cm에 불과해 영양분이 많지 않죠. 그러나 터마이트는 무리를 지어 움직입니다. 물이 전체를 유혹할 수만 있다면 충분한 영양분이 되죠. 주로 나뭇잎을 먹는 터마이트가 한 장을 보내는 데 걸리는 시간은 반나절 정도입니다. 노력이 필요한 건 없죠.

매편 대수는 터마이트의 식성을 알고 있습니다. 통 입구에 하얀 띠가 그것이죠. 그리고 이것은 나뭇잎보다 훨씬 먹기 쉬운 먹이입니다. 밤에 활동하는 터마이트는 전진만 하려고 합니다. 선두에 문제가 생겼지만 비상사태를 후미에 알려줄 터마이트는 계속 통 속으로 사라집니다. 계속될 터마이트의 습성은 네펜데스 주변에 쌓인 하루에 수백 마리의 터마이트를 익사시키기도 합니다.

The reason they gather in large numbers is because of the black substance on the ground. This substance is bat feces, which is rich in nutrients. Not only small cockroaches but also various sizes of cockroaches live here, along with spiders that eat insects. Additionally, amphibians, reptiles, and birds also inhabit this area, all thanks to the feces. As dusk approaches, bats go out to hunt. 

About two million bats transport nutrients from outside the cave into the cave every day. Bats connect the outside world with the cave environment, creating and maintaining the cave ecosystem, and that is due to the power of the feces.

So, certain Nepenthes are attracted to bat droppings. This Nepenthes knows when the bats defecate, which is when the bats are sleeping. Therefore, Nepenthes tries to lure the bats. Tired bats in the morning find it difficult to look for flowers. But how does Nepenthes call the bats? Ah, they recognize their surroundings through echolocation. Nepenthes adjusts the angle of the lid and entrance so that the bat's echolocation is clearly reflected. It’s like having a prominent hotel sign. They prefer bright and familiar places, looking for the same sleeping spot every day. Thanks to this, Nepenthes receives fresh nutrients daily. In this area, where nutrients are scarce, large trees cannot grow. What thrives here are only small shrubs and vines.

So, animals are also limited. The tree mole is the largest and produces the most waste. What is the surest way to obtain waste? My side means it has become a toilet. This type of design must consider the size of the user and also withstand the weight. The tree mole's size is optimized, and the design can break under pressure. It has a streamlined design that can collect waste in one place, with a narrow hole that prevents any waste from being left behind and also prevents backflow. One thing that distinguishes it from human-made toilets is that it has a lid that contains a white substance that attracts tree moles. Thanks to this substance, the tree mole can maintain a perfect posture. The white substance that the tree mole licks contains not only sweetness but also components that promote active bowel movements.

There are times when aiming is not easy. However, the waste that does not enter the hole can eventually be washed away when it rains. This is the structure of the toilet, Nepenthes, which survives in harsh environments. A koala sleeps for 20 hours a day. Koalas do not drink water; they obtain all their moisture and nutrients solely from eucalyptus leaves. However, eucalyptus trees are toxic to animals to protect their leaves. To digest the toxic leaves, koalas spend most of their time sleeping. A three-month-old baby koala is not immune to the eucalyptus toxins like its mother. Therefore, the baby koala needs to eat special food. The baby rubs its mother’s lower abdomen with its snout and arms to massage her.

In the beginning, the baby food is so hard that it can hardly be eaten. The special baby food consists of the mother's feces, which contains toxins, and the babies need to consume it to develop immunity against those toxins. After correcting their posture, the baby quails continue to receive massages, and now feces in a form that is good for absorption begins to appear. In about a month, these babies will completely wean off milk and rely solely on leaves for survival. The leaves themselves are a source of nutrition. There are some issues with digestion and absorption, but many herbivorous animals live solely on leaves. Nutrients are diminishing because the remaining leaves are falling. However, fallen leaves that drop anywhere from individual plants are meaningless. They must fall only on the individual to become their own sustenance. Therefore, the baby quails open their mouths to receive the leaves.

Nepenthes is known to be carnivorous, but this particular Nepenthes actually feeds on leaves, making it a kind of vegetarian. The lid is positioned and bent back to better capture fallen leaves. The reason they live in groups under trees is also related to this; they wait for the leaves to fall in the area where the most leaves drop. In fact, within the Nepenthes colony, mosquito larvae, tadpoles, and other organisms thrive healthily. Although there should be a buildup of dead matter, a small ecosystem has actually formed. Inside, there are weak microorganisms that can break down leaves. However, Nepenthes has a small entrance, which limits its ability to collect leaves. Therefore, there are also plants that are more efficient at gathering leaves. At a height of about 20 meters, there is a staircase leading to paradise, with a diameter of 2 meters, wrapping around the tree trunk in a spiral as it grows.

This plant has leaves that are about 30 cm in size, which local people refer to as elephant ears. It is an epiphyte that grows on trees, rocks, and other surfaces, without soil, and can obtain nutrients from the leaves at a height of 20 m. The first leaf reduces the speed of falling, while the next leaf catches the leaves that bounce away. This plant, arranged in a staircase pattern considering the macro pattern, knows how to catch the leaves. As the leaves pile up, fungi gather to decompose them. To attract fungi, it is important to collect as many leaves as possible. There is a tree here that knows this method. The width of this tree exceeds 1 m, and it has arranged its enormous leaves like those of an umbrella. This plant has also created a two-layered structure to minimize friction with the sliding leaves.

As the fallen leaves are sucked into the mouth, they gather near the roots, piling up neatly. The more leaves accumulate, the more fungi that decompose them increase, and the amount of nutrients available for the tree also rises. Trees, which consume leaves and grass, have become funnels, making every effort not to miss even a small amount of nutrients, allowing the plants to escape hunger. 

In a world where animals sniff out plants to eat, another unique behavior occurs when a friend penetrates and begins to suck out the bodily fluids. It is then that the stem that sprouted self-terminates. Since it has no roots anyway, it removes the useless parts by itself, growing without roots or leaves.

Plants that escape from all forms of hunger, such as sunlight, water, and nutrients, now create new organs. In real life, energy obtained by killing others is also used to create these organs.
