so welcome back to another episode of the everyday world. Uh, this is the beginning of what might become a loop of Brooklyn. I'm not sure exactly whether that's where I'm going to go with this. Uh, but in any case, um, what better place to start one, if that's what it turns out to be, than the micro center located um, near the 36th Street end stop on the west side of Brooklyn in Sunset Park. Um, we're going to start out by walking South towards uh, Coney Island, Ford Hamilton Parkway, um, and all that kind of jazz. And we're going to try to stick to uh, being as close to the water uh, as we can get most of the time. Now, that's not always going to be possible. Uh, we'll see here. We're probably not going to be able to come right out to the water um, but we'll try just like with our Loop of Manhattan, which is up on the channel. Um, now sometimes you end up getting pushed away from the water, whether it's

by construction or some kind of compound that is off-limits to the general public. A lot of times at the margins over here, there'll be like power stations, waste processing facilities, just some kind of, I don't know, junk lots. Well, not junk lots, not at the not at the freaking um, sorry, I'm on my phone trying to make sure that the recording is happening as expected. By the way, over here um, there's a little bit of a mle. It's not apparent looking at this just floor and the cor sign, but there's like a World Market in there or there used to be anyway. There used to be a bit Bath and Beyond in here as well, so maybe they're renovating and maybe things have changed, but uh, there are a lot of businesses, large stores in this building, and then Micro Center, of course, is just a chain of more DIY uh PC stuff. They don't only have PCS, they have mac, they have uh prefab uh laptops, they have their own

brand of pre-built PCs called PowerSpec, I think. Um, but they also sell all kinds of components in case you want to build your own. You want to go on logical increments or whatever you want to, you know, uh, save $200, uh, in return for having no warranty, having to spend like 30 hours doing research and assembly, etc. I I've done it. I mean, I I enjoy it, but I think that it's just kind of one of those things that, uh, you don't really do it to save money. You do it to feel like, to just feel cool or to have a little more control over exact, you know, whatever, just for cache or, or because you actually enjoy, uh, the assembly. This just like snapping pre-built pieces together. Anyway, you're not, no, you're not designing the circuit layout of the GPU board. Um, anyway, I actually have nothing against doing that. It's cool. It's a, actually, I think one, one, uh, one way, one thing, uh, one use case where I'm totally on board with the DIY component thing is when you

have a pre-built and one component fries or just becomes obsolete. That's a great way to extend the life of a computer instead of wasting a ton of parts that are still good. Maybe most, maybe your hard drive blew out or your graphics card sucks now even more than when you got the computer. You just want to swap in a decent mid-range graphics card. You swap it in, you immediately fry the stock PSU that they put in there. Uh, but there you go, get the new PSU, doesn't fit in your case for your pre-build. You go back, you get a new case, now you're having a good time. No, but jokes aside, like it's a great way to extend the life of a computer and reduce waste, save money. In that case, you do really save money. Uh, yeah, and so, and then so Micro Center has all that stuff, graphics cards, hard drives, memory sticks, what have you. Uh, and then they also have all the accessories, of course, you know, like Best Buy, but much more complete, much

wider selection, much more like a Radio Shack, and they also have all this kind of like young roboticist type stuff like Arduino boards and little packets of, I don't know, little components that you can put on your little robots. They got an extremely wide selection of cables, connectors, like an IT manager's paradise, for people for whom it is a vocation and not just a way out of inner-city poverty, which is fine, but you know, there are a subset of people who just like, they really like it. That place is catnip. Alright, so we're heading south past Industry City, which is this kind of, I don't know, what Sunset Park's answer to Hudson Yards. I'm not doing it justice right now. It just looks very boring from the outside. It's also boring inside, but there's at least more commercial activity. You know, there's like a comic shop, there's a hipster bar, there's some bocce ball bar where you can come with your graphic design.

friends, man, I'm in a good mood today. I'm just talking about everybody and everything, feeling feisty. I remember last time I was walking around here a few months ago, I was listening to Money Man. Now I don't feel like listening to Money Man. I'm going through a Russian rap phase. Money Man underrated though. I mean, he just has the most generic name. It's hard to believe that he could be like pretty good, but he's better than his name. You do believe. I think he like flipped narrow like good, not quite good enough to really blow, but good. Maybe not enough variety, not just in terms of flow, in terms of my mooding sometime. I'm sorry, sometimes if I'm trying to walk and I'm getting in people's way and they're getting in my way, we try to let each other through. It doesn't work perfectly, but we try. That bus looks so sad. Look at that bus. It's like it looks deflated. Oh goodness, I want to give it a slap, snap out of [Music].

it f violence is an expression of love and concern is I guess out of fashion at the moment and but uh you know fashion is what it is it's cyclical right so there's a Costco over here you can go in the Costco purchase cheap items and then you can get out and now you're an industry City I don't know what that means I don't know what industry they they're talking about look feels like it might rain which would be fun I hly don't mind oh look at that you can see that's you know one World Trade over there in downtown Manhattan and I think they are indeed getting rained on right now just a very fresh Cool Breeze ruffling my hair right now I think I just wish you could feel it I wish you could feel the breeze you got to come out here you know see it says IC for industry City over here but I've been working in a startup world for so long I just as soon as I see IC the only thing I can think is individual

contributor. I see four. I see five. I see six. Now that I'm a manager, I don't really contribute anymore, but I have to help other people contribute. That's even more fun, actually. I think even when I was younger, um, ever since a pretty young age, I've liked helping by enabling more than direct, you know, like work effort, uh, you know, trying. So, management path is the right path for me. Better leave the actual doing to people who are more competent than me. I don't think I can go there. I don't think I'm going to be able to get through, so I'm actually going to, as nice as the wind is, I'm also afraid of the geese. I'm going to turn around, and I'm going to go this way, take a right over here. You don't play, man. All right, I'm actually going to try something. So, one thing I've noticed is, oh, not. I'm going to reposition the camera a little bit. So, I noticed that in some of my

videos um you don't really get as much of the a vertical slice as I would like of the scene. Like you see street level and kind of Second Story stuff, but there's a lot of interesting stuff above the second story that I don't want you to miss out on if I can help it. But at the same time, I'm lazy. I'm too lazy to hold the camera in my hand, so like chest strap it is. But can I position it a little better? Maybe car had a bad time. It's just a lazy day today like every other day for me. I did some experimenting, toying with the idea of adding some virtual content to the channel, continuing to experiment with it. I recorded some stuff of me exploring GTA 4 version of New York, and it's just right at the border of like is it, you know, realistic enough for the vibe that I want for the channel. I'm not like running around and exploding anything, but you know NPC behaviors are in GTA.

games and just games in general are very caricatured and representations of cities with real places are so abstracted and distorted and just juiced up. They don't have trust that if you just show the world as it is that people are going to be interested enough. I'm sorry, there's cats. This is more important than anything that I'm saying clearly. Here we go, there's a bunch of cats and we're going to take pictures right now. The cats, I don't need food to give them. Sorry, I don't mean to like super disturb you all. I just want to just say hi and look at you, have a nice day, cats. Yeah, this is definitely like, wow, look at this. It's just like an abandoned train car that is just straight up Half-Life, just straight up Half-Life level design. I don't know, I'm just sorry. I want to show you a little more what I'm seeing right now on my

Not converted, just living in cars. Living in cars, living in vans. You do see that on the outskirts of Brooklyn. I've seen that in Manhattan too, like on the Upper East Side, for example, kind of where the train repair yards are, where the department of sanitation is. Sorry, um, trying to remember if I've seen it in Queens so far, but I don't think so. I don't think I have, actually. Not to say that it's not the case. There probably is. I just don't remember seeing it. You can look through all my Queens videos and see if you can spot it. If you spotted, let me know. Got a few Queens videos up now. Walk down of Queens Boulevard. I walk down of um Broadway Avenue, the one in Queens, and then um uh what.

else no um I think that's it at the moment, but I'm planning to do more. I'm planning to go to like, uh, R Island, and he said that he has the batteries for he, uh, probably planning a walk down of like r [Music]. I actually don't know if I've ever walked this far, this close to the, uh, to the water. There's a lot of just abandoned, like, large scale Bandos, kind of like what is going on over here, like what was this, what is just apartment buildings, uh, by the water, and like why would that have been abana. Also notice we're already south of, uh, Manhattan. That's World Trade, that's the southern tip of Manhattan over there. So if we're looking out over the water over here, which we are like right now, that's like, uh, Jersey, Jersey City, Bon, um, which is a city south of Jersey City, uh, and then after a while it's going to be Staten Island, but not yet, I don't think, right? So yeah, you can see here I think it's

Most of these kinds of vans or buses are actually just people living in them. [Music] But of course, that's not all. Some buyers parked here. Some people just have cool rocks that they... This is what the situation is, by the way, to our left. Like if we just look, if we went over even one block, it would get quickly, get like significantly more commercial and more just kind of like, you know, car repair shop. It's still kind of more rough and industrial than if you go two or three avenues east, 'cause right now we're on the west side of Brooklyn, the very west side, the west coast of Brooklyn, we could say, walking south down the west coast of Brooklyn towards the southwest corner of Brooklyn, essentially. Oh, that's a cool sign. Look at that Sunset Self Storage. So this is probably a good place to rent some self-storage, probably relatively inexpensive. Also, you could support what looks to be maybe like more of an independent business.

local business who knows it could be a Malayan multinational conglomerate. I don't know, but I don't think so. Small details of authenticity are actually not that easy to get right, although, of course, it could have been a real deal at one point, and then they had to sell. Okay, oh, there's a park here, and it looks to be open to the public, so I'm going to go in. Okay, 43rd Street entrance is temporarily closed, but we actually don't need the 43rd Street entrance because the Bush Terminal Pierce Park can be entered and exited right over here. A Bush terminal, is that like George Bush? And if so, which George Bush? I've never been, never been here. Honestly, if I didn't see that just like cheerful family biking down this way, I might have thought twice about coming down here. It's not that I'm a coward, I just um, you know, I don't want to make my mother worried, my poor mother. I want to take all these risks um, do all these dangerous and exciting

things, but my mother's peace of mind is more important. What the bro, what? There's like a whole field, SP Sports field over what the. It's just Bandos, holy. I had no idea this area existed. Look at this, people got to be like, there got to be people living in there, right? Okay, like this is, listen, correct me if I'm wrong, but like this is not an area where you should come after dark, probably, right? Like, correct me if I'm wrong. I don't think it's unreasonable to be cautious in this situation. I have, I just never even knew that there was a park here. I mean, I didn't even know that there were these bandas here, so I didn't know about the park. Okay, I guess actually the park extends further north. Not going to do that, but I'm going to go towards the water and see if I can see something. If I see something, um, I'm gonna say something, bro. You know, it's kind of moments like this why I do this.

uh, when I get a chance to surprise myself with something like this, that really makes uh, and of course, a lot of the time I'm walking around, I'm always having a nice time, but of course, a lot of the time it's like kind of bland, kind of boring, but the thing is, if you go to like the famous places, you're just never going to get this kind of moment. I don't stay away from the famous places, but I'm saying if you only go to the famous places, damn man, I'm going to put post this on on inst and be like name that Park. Okay, let to be a little careful here, technically like some bar wire or whatever, but we're good, we're champions BR. It's like the advanced version of that test name that part. I mean, it's a fantastic place to come and do hard drugs, right? There's some people taking pictures, so I'm going to let them do their thing and then I'll take my turn once they're done. You can see the verizo bridge over there.

I believe, uh, we got a long way to go before we get unless actually probably I'm mistaken. That's probably the bridge that goes over from Bom, uh, over to, uh, Staten Island. I think that's Staten Island over there, and we're going to walk down this way, down this way, but, uh, yeah, so that's obviously Manhattan over there. Well, I don't want to say obviously. That is Manhattan over there with the One World Trade Center being the One World Trade, the tallest building that looks like the two towers that were destroyed, coming together into one, uh, around it is the downtown area at the southern tip of, um, Manhattan, further to the right, so North. You can see, uh, the Empire State Building, Chrysler Tower, and to the right, uh, that more closer to the foreground and the Ikea, uh, that's in Red Hook in Fort North. So, we'll, um, when we coming to the end of our Loop of Brooklyn, which is going to be much, much, much longer than our Loop of Manhattan, we will, uh, swing by that Ikea in that

neighborhood anyway of Red Hook and then beyond the Ikea a little bit further to the right. I think what you're seeing is like downtown Brooklyn, if I'm not mistaken. Further to the left, to the left of Manhattan, you see Jersey City on the other side of the Hudson River, facing, looking a little bit like Manhattan's slightly younger, homelier brother. And then to the left is, of course, the Statue of Liberty. And I wonder, you know, I know if we can make out some of the, I don't know if you can make it out, there's like a grouping of buildings low to the ground with the look like a terracotta roof. I believe that is an old railroad terminus in Liberty State Park in Jersey City. So Southeast Jersey City, but I could be wrong. If that's correct, then there's a beautiful 911 memorial over there that is in one of my videos, actually. Take a look. It's like two polished steel walls.

close together, facing each other, and you walk in between them, and there's reflection. It's a quiet space, and there's kind of like a light at the end of the tunnel, you know, metaphorically and literally. And as a lot of the main people who died at the tip of Manhattan, so between kind of Jersey City and Manhattan, you could see that there is some greenery that's at Battery Park, made famous, of course, by DARS X, the video game released around the turn of the millennium. And then here we have a vision of the sublime. Anyway, moving on, I hear some thunder. This is one of the weirdest parks that I've ever been to in my life because it's got just like lush greenery, nice little athletic fields for the kids, and then just like burnt-out husks of apartment buildings right next to that juxtaposition. Much all right, let me not suffer a grievous injury over here. Grievous injury avoided for the

moment of course that is something that we can only delay, never avoid. Oh, I just saw some lightning, boys and girls. We're about to get rained on. Did you see that video of the guy in the elevator with the e-bike battery? It's overcharged, and it just catches fire and explodes and kills them in the elevator. It's like elevator security cam footage. My friend Victor Cairo shared it recently on Facebook, and I watched that ever since then. I just like do not feel safe when e-bike batteries are around. I'm not getting into any elevators or e-bike batteries. I don't trust people to have charged them to an appropriate level and not overcharge them, number one. Number two, I don't trust quality control of those things at all. All right, we're going to leave the same way that we came because I don't want to, you know, go back not knowing whether there's an exit there when it's starting to get a little dark. I do not want to

be in the spark after dark. Number one, number two. I want to continue for the South, and that's in this direction. I'm just, I'm curious how. I mean, the building looks like it's in reasonable repair, actually. It's just the windows that look all busted and boarded up. Uh, what, what was this? Was this condos that it just didn't work out? Was this factory of some kind? There's a shaftway here, so yeah, maybe a factory. It's probably a high school still operational. Gu, it's good enough for the pors. They're going to be retail slaves anyway. Holy, I think it really may, really may have been a school, because look at, I mean, the mural is like a school type mural, right? I check picture. This will make for a good thumbnail for the video and increase engagement. I did this. What? I did this for real. Yeah, really on the school. You did that? Yeah, like the St and Stu. Prob we get some kind of lens protector for these kinds of situations because it's like, uh, you know, it's hard to keep the LS clean, but the waterproof thing, knock knock knock on wood, knock on wood, seems to be relatively solid. Let's just check the map real quick, and that's on First Avenue actually. Fourth Avenue. Fourth Avenue is where the r is and the n in the r. Okay, so we just need to go one more Avenue over, right? Fourth Avenue, first beautiful Parkway, beautiful Highway. As highways go, right, it's pretty nice looking, all the trees, and look at that, look at that. That is some freaking, that a nice little skate spot actually. [Music] Of course, of course, the rain is dying down right away, and the thing is because it's summer, there's just going to be like a blow dryer that's going to like dry you off, make you warm again if the sun comes out, or that would be the case during the day, right? Right now, it is a little bit late, so it is a little bit chilly. Imagine you're running one of

those marathons, like that woman did, which just the Barkley marathons. And you get rained on like this in the first, like, 5 miles, let's say, of day two, right? And now you have to run 20 more miles on that day, and then you got to, you know, run like 50 more miles on the next days, and it's dark, and it's, uh, colder. Yeah, have fun. The cut-off time for the Barkley Marathon is, uh, 60 hours. Uh, and it's not a, it's not a marathon, it's a, it's 100 miles. There's something along those lines, maybe even more. It's so cool, so badass. People who can finish that, finish that. There have only been a couple dozen people who ever finished it, if that. The woman who did it this year, forget her name, uh, but she's like, uh, pretty close to my age, actually. She's like 42, a couple years younger than me, but not much. I think you need to be a little older to do those kinds of

challenges. It's, uh, you need physical fitness, but most of the skills you really need are mental skills. I think toughness, resilience, like wisdom, perspective, general maturity. It's not the kind of stuff that comes automatically with age, but it's just the kind of stuff that you need. Age, you need time to build. Nothing comes automatically with age except infirmity and disease, okay? That little life experience, I guess it's hard to avoid. It's hard to completely avoid amassing some useful experience, but it's pretty drip-drip-drip. I say you're not being effortful about it. Alright, so about six blocks north to the 59th Street NNR. Oh yeah, this I believe is actually just a big Q. Could be onong. So next time when we're picking up our walk, we're going to just come to 59th, and we're going to start from there. AA.
