this is a person who never received Christ as their savior. When they die, their soul is separated from their body and placed in what the Bible calls the lower parts of the earth. Did you know the word hell is not found anywhere in the Bible? The Bible actually describes six different chambers of punishment where the unrighteous are placed after they die. The actual Hebrew word used here in Proverbs, for example, is shol. Shol is described in the Bible as a place below the Earth where people go when they die. It's what you and I might call the underworld today. Jesus and the New Testament writers called it Hades, which is just a Greek translation of shol. But here's the crazy part: both unrighteous and righteous people went here; they just went to different compartments within Hades. Which brings us to chamber number two. The most vivid description we have of the next two chambers is found in Jesus' famous account of the rich man and Lazarus. In this account, both an unnamed selfish rich man and a poor beggar named Lazarus

dies. Both of them go down into Hades, but to different chambers. The rich man went to a place of torment within Hades. The account tells us that the rich man was in a conscious state of suffering as a result of flames. It appears that although the flames were burning him, they weren't consuming him. The Bible has a couple names for this chamber. Proverbs says hell and destruction are never full. Once again, this word hell is actually the word shol, and the word destruction is actually the proper name abadon in Hebrew. Abadon is always used negatively as a place within shol where the unrighteous go to be tormented after they die. The other word used to describe this chamber is the pit and is used in the exact same way abadon is in the Old Testament. So, if both the rich man and Lazarus went into shol after they died, and we know where the unrighteous rich man went, where did Lazarus go? He went to chamber number three. The Bible

says that when Lazarus died, the Angels carried him to a place called Abraham's bosom. We don't really use the word bosom too much today, but the term basically means your chest. In Hebrew culture, if you were invited to have dinner with a close friend, it was common for one of the Beloved guests to recline his head into the host's chest or bosom, since no one used chairs and everyone ate their meal close to the floor. For example, this is what the Apostle John was doing at his last dinner with Jesus. Therefore, the term Abraham's bosom is a Hebrew idiom that means Abraham's Feast, where you are his beloved guest in the afterlife. It was a place of comfort and Paradise, and it was where righteous people like Moses and Lazarus went after they died. What's even more interesting about Abraham's bosom is that it is located directly across from Abaddon. Jesus tells us that the rich man was able to physically see and even hear Abraham and Lazarus in Paradise. The rich man was so

tormented by the flame of the pit, he begged Abraham to have Lazarus dip his finger in water to cool his tongue. But Abraham told the rich man that this was impossible because there was a great gulf that separated these two chambers from one another. However, today the rich man and all the other unrighteous in Abaddon can no longer see anyone in Abraham's bosom anymore because it is completely empty now. The Bible tells us that after Jesus died, he went down into Hades and led captivity captive, meaning all of the Old Testament saints were taken out of Abraham's bosom by Jesus and ascended with him into the presence of God in heaven where they are to this day. This might surprise you, but even those in Abaddon are not going to be there forever. They are going to be removed and placed in chamber number six. But first, we need to look at our next chamber, which is located inside Hades. Unlike Abaddon, this chamber is not sealed, meaning those inside can freely move in

and out of it who currently has this privilege. You might ask demons. The Bible calls this chamber the abyss, and it is also called the bottomless pit in the Book of Revelation. This place is never associated with human beings, only demons, and apparently, they don't like this place very much. The Bible tells us when Jesus cast the Legion of demons out of the man from the country of the Gadarene, these demons begged Jesus to not send them into the abyss but into a herd of pigs instead. They'd rather stampede off a cliff than get sent there. The Book of Revelation tells us that God is going to eventually lock Satan and his demons in the abyss until they too are placed somewhere far worse. Chamber number six. But before we talk about the sixth and most horrible chamber, you need to know about chamber number five, which is also located in the center of the earth. The Book of Genesis tells us that God was angry with all the evil that was on the Earth, but he was especially angry because his very own angels had rebelled.

against him by sleeping with human women. Absolutely insane. We know how humanity was judged for this. Remember that giant flood? But have you ever thought about how the angels were judged? The Bible tells us God cast them into hell. The actual word used here is the proper name Tartarus. It says God locked them up here in pits of darkness. This means that, unlike the demons in the abyss, the fallen angels in Tartarus are unable to leave their individual pits. Okay, so the first five chambers that we have discussed so far are collectively considered the first death and are only temporary places of holding until one day God is going to empty out all of the unrighteous souls in Hades completely. He will then reunite the human souls with their physical bodies and destroy all of the underworld along with the rest of the earth. Each unrighteous person will then be judged for all of the evil deeds at what the Bible calls the great white throne judgment. And finally, everyone that was taken out of Hades will be

thrown into the most horrible chamber of all, chamber number six. This chamber is called the second death and lasts forever. It is more terrifying than all of the chambers we have discussed so far. But before I tell you about what the Bible says about chamber number six, there's probably a question that has been bugging you throughout this video: how can a loving God send people to these horrible places? To answer this, imagine 1,000 terrorists invaded your hometown, and each one of them murdered at least one person. Finally, law enforcement was able to intervene and took each of these 1,000 terrorists to court. So here's the question: should all 1,000 terrorists be sent to prison if all 1,000 of them murdered somebody? Of course, they should be punished. The punishment would fit the crime. You wouldn't expect a single one of them to be pardoned for their heinous crimes. And yet, God has pardoned and forgiven us and anyone who will receive it, despite the fact that we have sinned.

against a holy, perfect God. The truth is that we have a very distorted view of our own sin. None of us would compare ourselves to these terrorists, but because of God's holiness, He views sin very differently than we do. When He sees our sin, He sees evil in us that is worthy of eternal punishment. This is why our loving, gracious Jesus spoke about hell more than anyone in the entire Bible. Each one of us deserves to be placed in the sixth eternal chamber of punishment, which we are going to talk about in a moment. This is why Christ had to die. He took hell upon Himself so that you and I could be declared righteous if we just believe in Him and His finished work on the cross. It is a sobering thought to think about how many will experience eternal punishment, and I'm sure many of you are thinking, What about those who have never heard the gospel? description to the video when it's finished. But now, let's finally talk about the most terrifying chamber of all, chamber number six. The Bible calls this terrifying place Gehenna. The name Gehenna literally means the valley of Hinnom, and it was the literal place where the wicked Kings of Israel offered child sacrifices to the false gods of the Canaanites. In the afterlife, it is the place where all demons, fallen angels, and unrighteous human beings will be sent to suffer the wrath of God for eternity. The Bible says it is pitch black. Imagine forever not being able to see your hand in front of your face. The Bible also refers to Gehenna as the Lake of Fire because it is a place where flames burn its subjects for eternity without ever consuming them. And what is the fuel for these flames? Brimstone, which refers to burning sulfur that smells like rotten eggs. Lastly, and worst of all, the Bible says that those who are sent here will be constantly weeping, grinding their

teeth as hard as they can, meaning that everyone here is physically conscious of their pain and torment for all of eternity.
