later this year, when the calendar hits September of 2024, it will be the 10-year anniversary of the Apple Watch. As somehow it's already been a decade since the unveil in September of 2014. And for a while, we were hearing that this year for the Apple Watch was going to be a big one. Apple was planning not just a small update yet again, but a massive overhaul for the Apple Watch that would have a significantly thinner chassis with a massive screen on top. The band system was set to be re-engineered from the ground up with a brand new magnetic mechanism that would allow for more internal space for things like a larger battery. And maybe most impactful were the two new health features rumored, including blood pressure monitoring, which would be a huge deal for a lot of people, as well as active sleep apnea tracking. And when you put all these things together, it really looked like the Apple Watch was going to be the perfected version of this wearable that we first saw over 10 years ago that just

like the iPhone X was a complete rethink of what the iPhone could be. A decade into that, Apple was going to do the same thing for the watch, but until now, we hadn't actually seen what the Apple Watch looked like. We had heard all these rumors, we had some ideas and guesses, but well, now we have the actual final design. And let me just say, it is quite a different story than what we heard initially. And rather than looking at these gray and weird looking CAD images, which are the raw engineering files, well, of course, this is Apple track, I want to show you what it's actually going to look like. Here's your first look at the 2024 Apple Watch X. Right off the bat, you can see that the core DNA of the Apple Watch is remaining. It is once again a rounded rectangle angular design. Apple, at this point, is 100% committed to this concept, and I do not think we will ever see a circular watch. With that being said, let me show you the two biggest changes that Apple is making this year.

first is the biggest update to the screens probably ever. Apple is dramatically increasing the screen sizes from the current 41 and 45 mm sizes to 45 and 49 mm. And a 49mm sounds familiar. It's because Apple already makes a 49 mm sized watch. That's the current Apple watch Ultra, meaning that the biggest regular Apple watch is going to have the exact same size display as the Ultra. Now, and on the flip side of that, it's now weird to think that the smallest 45.5mm Apple watch will be the same size as the current largest regular Apple watch. So the screens this year, they're just getting really big. Now moving on to the second major change, the screens aren't the only part of the Apple watch getting larger this year, as it appears that the actual body and chassis of the Apple watch is not just getting bigger, it's also getting thicker. See, here's where things get a little bit weird because according to the most recent rumors from sources like Wman Shei and Mark German.

they have said repeatedly that the Apple watch X's designed this year is actually going to be thinner. But if you actually go and take a close look at this leaked design, that is not what is happening. It's actually the opposite. Looking at the leaked design for the Apple watch X, the body is getting thicker year over year. And it kind of makes sense because how else would Apple make the screens this much larger and leave room for everything else, which puts us in kind of a weird spot because this essentially tells us two things. Number one, that we are not actually getting the complete redesign this year with the thinner body, the new band system, and all of the crazy breakthrough features that we thought we were. But also number two, that maybe the battery life on the regular Apple watches could finally increase from 18 hours as if Apple is increasing the thickness. That is without a doubt what has allowed Apple to achieve the crazy battery life on the Apple watch Ultra. And maybe they've made the decision to cut the crazy cool design and instead

bring a step change to battery on these regular watches, which I do think would make people really happy even so just looking at the Apple watch x leak design here seeing what we have now seen. I am pretty bored of the Apple watch at this point. We have gotten no major changes in a decade, and yet again even on the 10th anniversary, it just seems like Apple is playing it safe and doing the same thing for yet another year. Okay, now let's get back to it. Here's the deal though, that's not the only bad news for the Apple Watch X. We've also gotten some bad news about not just one, but both of the new health features for the Apple Watch X this year. And I mentioned these earlier, they are blood pressure monitoring and sleep apnea detection. First, what's going on with blood pressure monitoring? Well, it sounds like Apple has run into some reliability issues for getting this to be consistent and accurate, which obviously for a health feature as big as BP monitoring, you can't ship that feature and have it be 70% there. It needs to be closer to 100%. And even though this feature would just work in

the background and give you a notification over time if it noticed a discrepancy from a normal deviation of blood pressure. Based on the writing in this report, it doesn't appear like blood pressure monitoring is going to make the cut. We've also heard that Apple has had big problems integrating it to the slightly different design for the series 10 this year, which is pretty sad to hear as Apple has been working on this forever. This would be genuinely game-changing, and it seems like they're close, but that they just kind of run out of time to put it in this year's model. The second Health feature though sounds even worse and basically not even a chance of shipping this year anymore. It's sleep apnea detection, a condition that like high blood pressure, also affects millions of people every year, many of which who don't even know they suffer from the Sleep Disorder, which would work by tracking things like your heart rate and also your blood oxygen level. But if I mention blood oxygen and you're like wait, I feel like maybe

something wasn't great with that on the Apple watch recently. You would be absolutely correct. Apple has currently disabled the feature on all of the Apple watches that they currently sell. This is due to an ongoing pending dispute with a company known as Masimo who claims that Apple stole their algorithms and poached some of their engineers to steal the technology for themselves. And until this is resolved, Apple has been court-ordered to not sell any Apple watches with the feature. Well, guess what? To make sleep apnea monitoring a reality, you need that blood oxygen metric. So, unless Apple has reinvented the blood oxygen feature actually on their own, they couldn't even legally ship the sleep apnea feature due to this ongoing dispute. This is just an unprecedented thing for Apple to be going through, and the fact that it is now starting to affect future features for the Apple watch is not a good look. The same report though had one other thing to share about what is happening for the Apple Watch X this year, and that

is the fact that Apple for the second year in a row and unusual for them is putting another new faster chip on the inside. Now of course it's an Apple Watch so why does the chip actually matter and according to this report the new chip will enable Apple intelligence features like the new version of Siri which does seem like it will be a game changer. Nope just kidding actually Apple intelligence is not coming to the Apple watch apparently ever according to this report. Yeah apparently the Apple watch even with this upgraded chip will be locked to the old version of Siri the one that isn't smart that doesn't work very well and this chip added this year is just to lay the groundwork for some future AI features that we haven't heard about yet which I I'm sorry what what. So wait you're telling me not only is Apple not changing the design this year not only are the new health features in a super bad spot but on top of everything else using this is a portable AI wearable that's also out the picture is well.

maybe I'm being too harsh here, but as somebody that has worn the Apple Watch since the very first day I could get one when it was released in 2015, is somebody who has watched this product evolve over time. It's just not really evolving, is the thing. It's kind of looked the same forever. The feature set and use case for tracking your health and fitness has kind of been the same since the first day, and while it's looked a little bit better, it's gotten faster. It has gotten more reliable and fun to use with cool new bands and models like the Ultra that I absolutely love. I just thought 10 years in, if somebody would have asked me to guess what the Apple Watch would look like a decade from launch, I would have never guessed that it would just kind of be the exact same.
