seed oils, a topic hotter than Ryan Reynolds and Brad Pitt put together in today's episode. Today, I'm going to break down the fundamentals of what seed oils are. We'll also add to that age-old question: are they problematic for you? And if you stick around until the end, not only will you see me create a delicious breakfast dish that you can make at home free of seed oils, but will also help you to understand how you can identify seed oils in your foods. So, what asks from seeds? These oils are created by taking the crops of seeds and then refining them, usually through some heating process or a pressurized system. Some of the ones you may recognize are canola or rapeseed. You also have peanut, and it's going to be more that we're going to leave at the end of the video. So, are seed oils harmful? Yes, seed oils are rich in omega-6 pro-inflammatory fatty acids compared to our omega-3 anti-inflammatory fatty acids. Both are essential, which means we both need to

consume them from foods to get them now. In saying this though, we once had a ratio of one to one, meaning we had for every one omega-6, we had one omega-3, so it balanced out within our body. However, due to modern diets, particularly in America and big food, we see ratios of 12 to 20 to 1 omega-6 to omega-3, meaning we have a very chronic issue with inflammation. One way to combat this would be to simply reduce our omega-6 fatty acids and be more aware of the anti-inflammatory profiles we can be getting. There are a number of studies that indicate chronic inflammation and anything that causes chronic inflammation leading to heart-related diseases. We should be reducing our omega-6 and increasing our anti-inflammatory omega-3 in our diet. I know what you're thinking. You have seeds and nuts and all those kinds of things, and you think they're really good for you. Well, they are. See, the thing about seed oils is they are highly concentrated seeds. They've also been

through processes, as I said earlier, heating, mechanical pressurization, which leads to a lot of oxidization, which is the harmful effects, which is nothing to do with the Original Seed in the first place. Love my job, no seed oils, just seeds, yep. So, unless you're making your own industrial seed oils at home, all seeds are fine, that's right. Go make your cheese seed puddings to your heart's content. I've got plenty of recipes for that. I do love them as well and pick up some amazing Pepita and pumpkin seeds as well. So, in summation, seeds are good, industrial seed oils are bad. We are aiming to get as close back to that one-to-one ratio as quickly as possible. Just note that seed oils are highly processed and cause a high concentration of linoleic acid, which is not good. A lot of pro-inflammatory bad problems will occur, particularly at a chronic inflammatory rate. And just remember these ones are what you should look for, and there's one thing you definitely need to identify. This is the tricky one.

extra virgin olive oil is awesome. It's fantastic for you. It's rich in wonderful compounds that we love. But marketing teams have gotten really smart and now create blends. So what they'll do is they'll put canola oil with extra virgin and make it look as if it's a good oil. Just remember canola oil is an industrial seed oil, even though extra virgin is not. Just to put this in perspective, look at the color of this extra virgin olive oil, 100. Now you can see that this one is much more lighter in color. The more color, the more dense wonderful micronutrients are involved. That's why extra virgin 100 is much better for you. This has been thinned out with an industrial seed oil despite having some tinge to it. So we've identified why it's bad, but why is it still in use? Simply put, it's cheap as a chef. It's a neutral oil and can make things much easier to cook with because it's got a higher smoking point. What I mean by that in you don't burn things as

quick, so it's cheap, it's easy to work with when cooking, and it makes a lot more money for big food. This is one of the reasons why, when you go shopping, make sure to check out the ingredients list for any of these identified oils, because they are hidden seed oils. And you know, you may be having them in small concentrations, which is fine, but if you've been having them a lot, you'll be surprised how much they can be actually wreaking havoc on your internal system, including chronic inflammation.
