I've reached Coast fire in my late 40s. I'd like to fully retire in 5 to 7 years. How should I invest in my taxable brokerage account to support this? So I've reached Coast fire in my late 40s. I want to fully retire in, how long? Five to

seven years. Five to seven. How should I invest in my taxable account? Yes, well Bri, I think, uh, why don't we talk a little bit about, so Coast fire. So when it comes to fire, the Financial Independence Retire Early movement, there's a couple different ways to do it, right? There's

like Barista fire, which is, hey, I'm going to sort of retire, but I have a part-time job to get some additional income coming in. Uh, I'm going to do Frugal fire, which means I'm going to try to get my expense footprint down as low as humanly

possible and sort of live this like minimalist lifestyle. And then there's Coast fire, uh, which is more, hey, I want to have a standard of living that is reasonable, that just kind of my standard of living while I was working. So it sounds like Kevin, uh, if he is Coast fire

in his late 40s, he's done a pretty good job of building up resources by this stage, but not quite at Financial Independence yet. Not quite able to be fully independent. There, there's two types of allocations that that Kevin needs to pay attention to that will be

the asset allocation, and there'll be the tax location or allocation that you will have on that with the way your accounts are structured. But when we tell talk about the the asset allocation, the way I would attack that is, I, Kevin needs to draw three columns, you know, and you can

do this on a spreadsheet, Google Sheets, Excel, or you can even get nerdy enough to pull out a sheet of paper, and you're going to need to have your short-term goals, which are things that are probably less than three years. You're going to

need to have your midterm goals, which are those three to six to seven years, and then you need to have your, what's, seven years and beyond. And then think about back into what life is going to look like, what goals you have coming up, what big expenditures, put them in the

different columns, and then you can start getting a more full picture of how much of this money is truly long-term because Kevin, you're in a unique situation, because you have money, especially CoastFIRE, and you're in your late 40s, that's still young, so there is money

there that's going to still be working for you for the next 50 years. That 50-year money doesn't need to be locked down into super conservative stuff, but you have things that 5 to 7 years from now it's going to look more like what a

60 or 65-year-old would need, so it needs to be planned for accordingly, by the way the asset allocation works, and that's why I love when you can break your money between short-term, midterm, and then long-term goals. You can get to a visual of how you create those

different buckets, and then how do you integrate them? And that moves to the next step of the tax location. What do you have to work with? Do you have a bunch of, you know, traditional 401(k)s where you're already going to have trouble getting access to that money?

until you're 59 and a half, already you have a 401(k), even that's going to be 59 and a half. Because if you're leaving the workforce in your 40s, the 55 rule is not going to apply to you. You've got to start

paying attention to what those bucket structures are going to look like so you even know what you have access to. Yeah, this is one of those unique things where personal finance becomes incredibly personalized, and your unique journey is going to be unique to you. It's going to

be unique to your account structure, your time horizon, the size of your portfolio, your goals. This might be one of those unique instances where you find yourself saying, "Man, I really wish that I had a second set of eyes. I wish I had a co-pilot to help me navigate this."

military people. I have a lot of military relatives. They start pulling in pensions, you know, because you go into the military at, you know, at 18, you do your 20 plus years, you know, you could be 38 to 45 and and start having pension money

coming in. There's all kind of cool things that you just need to know what you're working with. And it is Bose's exactly right. I hate cuz I like I like giving an, but if I don't know all the variables, I can't give you everything because I have
