I want to talk a little bit about what you should do if you have no direction in your 20s, and you're trying to figure out what to do with your life. I have plenty of experience of what it's like to be directionless in your 20s. My 20s were a blur. I've talked about it a bunch. I spent a lot of time gaming, I spent a lot of time drinking, I spent a lot of time wasting money, and wasting my time in my 20s. I am a high school dropout. I didn't go to college. I did get my G, but I didn't do much with my life, and it took me a really long time to figure things out. I did eventually get my stuff together, but I wasted a large portion of my 20s doing nothing, like legit, like from 20 to 28, I just wasted a bunch of time, and finally when I was 28 years old, I started kind of figuring stuff out. I guess that's one of the first things I'll start off by

saying is that if you're 20 years old or in your early 20s, and you're having a hard time figuring out what it is you want to do, don't worry too much because you do have time. Although it doesn't feel that way because it does feel like there's this sense of desperation and that you're racing against the clock. And trust me, that feeling gets worse as you get older because time does go by faster or feels like it does when you do get older. You may be feeling that way when you're in your 20s, and you may be feeling like you're losing your opportunities or that you're losing the opportunity to have opportunities. But the truth is that you do have some time, so don't panic, right? Don't freak out, but you should have a little bit of that, like a little bit of that. Panic is good. A little bit of that worry is good because if you are feeling that way, that means that you're thinking about the future, that means that you're concerned.

about important things. See, I was the opposite. I wasn't concerned about these things when I was in my 20s. I would have never watched a video giving me advice on what I should be doing in my 20s. If I was directionless, I wish I would have because I probably would have benefited a lot from it. But the fact that those things are worrying you at a young age is good because it means that it's something that you're already thinking about and that's on your mind. And because of the fact that you are thinking about it, that means that you're already taking action towards working on that. Even though it may not be direct action, it's indirect action by just being concerned about it. And if lack of direction is something that you really are struggling with and you are worried about time but you don't know what to do, start thinking about all the things that you would like to do. Like seriously, write them down and think about it. And it doesn't matter if you don't currently have anything going on like if you would

have asked me when I was 20, like, well, what is it that you want to do? and probably answered like, I don't know, get drunk, smoke weed, play video games all day. I had no idea like what I could do or what I wanted to do, and I never really thought about it, you know? People would tell me, why don't you go to school? I knew I didn't want to go to school, like, that was something that just never interested me. So all I did was just kind of keep working tip jobs. I remember that was like the goal I set for myself, and I ended up doing well with it because it was the only thing I focused on. But really, all I had to do was show up; that was most of the battle. And eventually, when I got tired of one job, I'd find another, and another, and another until I just kept moving jobs, and that worked out for me. Sometimes that doesn't work out for people, but I wish would have actually like sat down and really thought about what it was that I wanted.

to do, and if what you want to do is make money, that's a perfectly fine goal to have. If what you want to do is travel, that's also a good goal. Some people aren't driven just for financial purpose; some people want experiences, and that's okay. But if you literally don't know what it is that you want to do, sit down and think about those things. Don't worry so much about how you're going to get it accomplished, but at least knowing what it is that you want to do is going to get you a long way. And then you can start making the plans towards how you can accomplish those goals. So if you want to make money, if that's like your big goal and you're 20 years old, like think about that. Like, say, All right, well, I want to make money, and then start thinking about things that you might actually be able to do that can bring you in money. And if you've just mostly worked minimum wage jobs and have no real skill or value that you can provide.

people start thinking about things that you can learn that can make you money, and this is the honest truth. If you want to make yourself valuable to people, to jobs, to customers, to employers, whatever, you have to have something that you can provide. You have to be able to provide a service, you have to be able to provide goods, you have to be able to give someone something that they need. Take care of people's problems, and there's a lot of different ways of doing it. Like when I was in my early 20s, I had a friend of mine that I was pretty envious of because he was very money-driven, and he was a lot like me, was a high school graduate, he didn't go to college, he didn't do anything like that, but he chose to start driving trucks. At the time, he made really, really, really good money. I mean, we were in our early 20s, I think he was like a year older than me, and he was making over 100 grand a year. He was like 25 years old, and he

was balling. He drove trucks like all he had to do was get his commercial driver's license. He worked real hard for like a short amount of time for a local company. He saved up some money to put a down payment on his own truck. He opened up his own business, got an LLC, and then he started doing private driving, moving trailers across the country for people who needed him. And he hired himself out, and he did very well. And really all he did was tell himself he wanted to make money, figured out a way to make money, and followed through with it, worked really hard, and got it done. And I know that there's a lot of negative people out there that'll be like, Oh well, yeah, well he was lucky. You know, there's a quote that I've heard recently that is really stuck with me, and it said, We're all self-made. It's just the successful ones that talk about it. And that's the truth. If you want something and you're willing to work hard enough for it, you'll get it. My buddy started his own

Trucking Company. Go mow lawn, go wash cars, go start your own business, or go learn a skill that'll pay you more money an hour than what you're making now. If you're making minimum wage and you're stuck at a minimum wage job, what's stopping you from going and learning a skill and getting a better paying job? You are the only one stopping yourself from doing that. If my old ass could learn how to code at 32 years old and become a software developer in my 30s with a baby on the way as a high school dropout with a GED and no college degree, there is nothing stopping you except yourself. And that's the honest truth. You got to be willing to put in work. There's no reason to not be able to figure out a way, especially now with the internet, especially now with YouTube. All you have to do is type in what you want to do on Google or on YouTube or in chat GPT, and you will literally have step-by-step directions on how to accomplish almost

anything you want. So don't make excuses. If you're young and you keep telling yourself, well, I don't know what it is that I want to do, well, go find what it is you want to do. Figure something out. Set goals. If I could go back when I was 20 years old, I would tell myself, set some goals. Who cares if you don't have any direction now. Try to make a direction for yourself. Because I think that's the biggest problem that many of us that feel like we have nothing to aspire to, that feel like we have no goals. Well, make some. Like, take some time and make some. Stop giving yourself excuses. Stop living a lazy, unfulfilling life because you're literally the only one that's in your way. I say this all the time. I used to be my own worst enemy. I used to get in my own way. I used to tell myself I couldn't do stuff. I would convince myself that I had failed before I even tried. And it was maybe because of

how I was brought up. Maybe because I never had encouragement when I was younger. Maybe because a lot of adults when I was younger would tell me that I was just not going to amount to much. Maybe it's because I believed all that and let them convince me. Let myself convince me that I couldn't do stuff. The only person stopping you from doing the things you want to do are you. There could be some other circumstances that may prevent you from accomplishing certain things if you live in America. If you are a young adult, there is nothing stopping you. I don't care about your background. I don't care about your skin color. I don't care about your religion. I don't care about your sexuality. I don't care about any of that stuff. If you are in America and you are a young adult, there is nothing stopping you from getting the things that you want. If you don't want to believe that, then that's on you. Maybe one day you'll realize that that's the truth and maybe one day you

won't. I wish I would have learned that when I was younger, because it took me a really long time, and it took me all the way up until now to figure out that that really is true. I wish I would have seen that and understood that when I was younger, because it would have helped me a lot when I didn't have any direction. Another thing too is like if you're young, that's the time to take risk, that's the time to fail early and fail often. If you're living with your parents or if you have roommates and have a low cost of living, if you don't have kids, take risk, don't be scared to fail. I think that one of the biggest problems that I had when I was younger and in my 20s and feeling directionless, feeling like I didn't know what to do, was that I was so scared that if I tried to do something, I would fail, that I never took any risk. Like I would spend money on stupid stuff because I

made okay money. Like, I did pretty well for myself. When I was younger, I used to help my mom out a lot. Like, she lived with me and she wasn't working, and I paid a lot of the bills. But I had a lot of disposable income, especially for like a young 24-year-old kid. I was doing okay. But instead of like taking that money and going out and trying to get my real estate license, or trying to invest or save it up and then like buy a property or start a business, I was so scared of like those things not working out that I would convince myself, Well, that wasn't worth the risk, because I didn't want to fail. But then I would take that money that I could have used and risk in those endeavors that would have benefited me greatly. I would take that money and then waste it on drinking and gambling, or buying a new video game console, or just spending it on stupid stuff like clothes and shoes, and things that just were liabilities and things that weren't assets. It's so funny.

because I think of it now, and I realize that I was scared to fail and take risks, but I was just burning my money away. My fear of failure led me to still losing the money that I could have invested or put up to try to make more money. With I risked it and lost it anyways, it still was lost, and the time that I could have invested into taking risks that would have benefited me in a positive way. I took that time, and I invested it into things that brought me no benefit at all. There was a big p of that that was fueled by my fear of failure and my unwillingness to take positive risk. There's positive risk and there's negative risk going out and getting drunk and driving home and spending money and going to the bars like there's all kinds of negative risks there. There's getting DUIs which lucky that I never got one even though I've had some close calls and have done some stupid stuff which which I regret now but I I was lucky enough to never get a

UI, but I would also take risks by going out to the bars and getting drunk, starting fights, or hooking up with some chick that I could have probably got an STD from, or could have gotten pregnant, or something stupid. And those were all negative risks that had no potential of positive returns. But then at the same time, I wasn't willing to stay up late and study for something that I could have learned. And I wasn't willing to take the risk of like saving up my money and maybe starting a business with a friend, or getting into real estate when I was younger, or doing anything that would have had a positive return. It's so funny because I was so quick to jump to the negative stuff and so scared of the positive stuff where the negative stuff had much more consequences and much worse consequences than the positive risk would have had because if you fail at doing something positive, you tend to fail forward. I remember hearing this somewhere, failing forward, where you take steps in the right direction, and even though there's the risk of failing

if you fail, you'll land in a better spot than you were then. If you take steps in the wrong direction, if you're moving forward and trying to constantly progress, you fail forward instead of not doing anything or moving backwards and doing dumb stuff. And then you fail backwards, which puts you in a further position than where you wanted to be to begin with. So it's just something that really sticks with me. And when I think about like if I was 20 years old and I just had no direction at all, and I really had to think about some of the things that I could redo or if I could tell that to someone who's 20 years old and they're kind of like, Oh, I don't know what to do. I'm just I can't figure anything out. Be like, Man, just don't be scared to take some risk because that's the time to do it. You're young, you can recover so much easier. Like right now at my age, I'm

almost 40 or I'll be 39 this year, and 40 is just a hop, skip, and a jump away. At this age now, with a wife and kids and family and like bills and responsibilities, the risks are so much greater and what I have to be willing to put up and the sacrifices that I have to make. I feel like I have to be way more careful now than when I was younger because if I try to pursue a financial endeavor and fail, then it's costing me current investments, it's costing me parts of my life savings, it's costing me time with my family, and things that I just can't recover from as easily as I could when I was younger. When you're young and you don't have a family, I mean if you're older and you don't have a family then some of that doesn't apply to you, but if you're older again you've spent so much of your life building up to right now that when you do risk some of this stuff at an older

age it's just harder to recover because you don't have the amount of time that you'll need in order to recover. And you know it just time keeps moving forward and it gets harder and harder to do. And if you're 20 now is the time to take those risks because you can afford to take losses. Don't be scared to lose and just trust me it's a much better time to try to do those things. A little bit more on like failing you learn from failing and that's one thing that it took me a while. It took me getting into my old age to really realize that. I heard this expression first when I got into Jiu-Jitsu where you either win or you learn. You hear a lot of people say that at least that's where I first heard it was through Jiu-Jitsu. Maybe other people say that and I can confirm that this is true. I've competed a bunch of times in Jiu-Jitsu and the wins feel great and I love the

feeling of winning, but the losses don't feel good. The losses suck, and when you lose, you start analyzing every mistake you made. You start breaking everything down from the beginning of the match up until the end, up until what caused you to lose. If you lose by submission, if you lose by points, you really start critiquing all the mistakes you made, and that really helps you analyze the weaknesses in your game. It really helps you analyze like where you went wrong. So that saying, you win or you learn, it's just so true. And so you learn way more from failing than you do from winning. I just wanted to add that because while you shouldn't be scared to take risks, and you shouldn't be scared to fail, those failures are going to be some of your biggest learning opportunities. I wish I would have known that when I was younger and in my 20s and had so much concern of failing and was too scared to take risks. I wish I would have known that. I would have learned so much from those.

mistakes, and it took me a whole lot of more mistakes, and a whole lot more time to realize that. And if I could just bestow a little bit of wisdom on you, that's something that you really need to understand. That you're going to learn so much from failing. So if you're worried that you don't have Direction, and you don't know what to do, and you don't want to try to take a risk because you're worried that you're going to fail, fail fast, learn fast, and move forward. Don't worry about it too much, trust me. So I know I've talked about a lot of stuff, but I want to talk about the importance of persistence, patience, and like grit and determination. Those things alone will help you accomplish so much in your life. I learned how to code only because I did not stop learning. Like I told myself if I was going to do it, I kept doing it no matter what. All the times I felt stupid, all the times I felt like I didn't

understand all the tutorials that I watched. I didn't know what the hell they were talking about all the time. Just bashing my head against the keyboard trying to figure stuff out. Trying to understand, trying to learn, and hoping that one day things would just click. The secret sauce. There was just not giving up, being persistent, being determined, having the grit to tough it out. Like that alone, if you could just get a little bit of that and stick to one thing. Don't go out trying a whole bunch of different stuff. Set like small goals, figure out like the thing that you want to try to do. Do it for a while and try to really get some results. Don't give up too quickly, but also don't stay stuck on one thing for too long if you feel like it's really not going anywhere. It's kind of like a balanced thing that you're going to have to learn how to do because you don't want to jump around from one thing the next and never really follow through with anything.

everyone, I know a lot of deadbeats that don't support their kids, but for me, it did a lot of that. But I don't know, find find whatever it is that drives you, and if it's just your hunger for a better life, for money, for women, for whatever it is like whatever, everybody's got different motivators, whatever motivates you, use that when you can, but remember that motivation only lasts so long. Eventually, it, it's determination and just saying you were going to do something and doing it because you said you were going to do it and continuing to do it because you said you were going to do it. That's the thing that's going to drive you to the Finish Line, the ability to do something that sucks over and over again and not see results right away and delaying gratification and being able to just show up every day and get your ass kicked, bust your ass, work out, and not see results. That's the one skill that will get you out of the rut, that's the one skill that will give you

Direction when you're directionless, that's the one skill that if I can go back, give that one thing I have now that I didn't have when I was 20 years old to myself. That's what I would give myself, is being able to persist, have determination, and the grit to endure shitty times and tough times, and being able to just put my head down and work and keep moving forward. That's one thing that you really, really got to try to do when you're younger, push through when no one else will, because that's going to set you apart and that's going to help guide you in the right direction when you have no direction.
