Professor, please. >> I am Lee Ji-sook, Director of the Pediatric Emergency Center at Ajou University Hospital. Currently, >> I am responsible for establishing the training system and overseeing the education of pediatric sub-specialists at the Pediatric Specialty Center.

Before discussing the situation at the time, I want to express my gratitude to my medical staff who, despite experiencing the absurd and beyond-common-sense event of an emergency room search and seizure, are still on the front lines at this very moment, working hard for our patients.

In fact, I had not provided any briefings through the media or individually at all.

My intention was not to ruin the relationship between the police and Ajou, or between the police and the medical association.

However, what I really want to say through this opportunity today is that this is not the first time that a medical site, an emergency center, has had its care interrupted by the police, or that medical professionals have been treated like criminals.

It is not the first time at Ajou University Hospital, and I am speaking up because this is something that can happen at any time in other emergency centers as well, not just ours.

The facts are very different from what the police have stated. Despite it being the morning, a six-month-old infant had been brought to the ER with seizures that had lasted for over an hour, and we were already in the middle of providing treatment; even after receiving specialist care, the child's seizures did not stop immediately, so we were preparing for intubation and administering various medications, with all nurses focused entirely on the treatment.

It was only after the child was barely stabilized that the police arrived and began moving around the emergency room. Prior to that, they had already entered and checked the locations of the CCTV cameras at a moment when we were not even aware.

After they entered, they spent nearly an hour and a half on-site checking two doctors 'PCs and the head nurse's PC in the examination room, and they interrupted nursing duties by keeping the nursing supervisor in the head nurse's office for nearly an hour, demanding various materials.

And this is not the first time this has happened either.

In fact, on July 15th, when this patient passed away, CPR was performed for over 60 minutes in the emergency room, and despite every effort made by the medical team during the cardiac arrest, unfortunately, the child died.

Immediately upon the child's death, the guardian reported it to the police via 112, and two detectives from the nearby station entered the emergency room right away.

So, the professor couldn't even finish treating that patient, and because of that procedure, all the treatments for the waiting patients were halted while the professor had to meet with the police.

Within ten minutes of the police detective arriving, three more detectives in forensic uniforms, carrying DSLR cameras, entered the emergency center simultaneously.

Our child hadn't even been moved out yet, and the initial procedures weren't finished, but they started taking photos of the resuscitation room, treating the nurses and doctors on-site like criminals.

They didn't provide any explanation for that, and that day, all medical operations in the emergency center were obstructed for about 40 minutes.

What I want is for the Ajou University Hospital Pediatric Specialty Center to continue providing care for patients from outside our region, including those from Chungcheong-do and Gangwon-do.

However, we do not want our doctors and nurses to feel humiliated or pressured while they are providing medical care.

If the police need to conduct an investigation to clarify the facts or address concerns involving the guardians, we are fully prepared to cooperate at any time.

But even in these situations, patients keep coming in, and the care for patients currently being treated must continue.

We strongly request that the police understand these unique circumstances and establish investigative guidelines so that our right to provide care is guaranteed and pediatric emergency treatment can be performed while ensuring the safety of our patients.
