I randomly picked one up while passing by their store at Taman Anggrek mall. They have a large store there. I enjoy collecting catalogs like this. Maybe in 10 years, we will see if this is AI, technology from ancient times, it's quite interesting here in the very back page. They always list their newest products, from the most expensive to the cheapest. They have everything. Starting from the most expensive at 50, 60, 70, 80 million, this is the luxurious part at the top. Until the cheapest one at the bottom corner here, the ASUS TUF Gaming A15 FA506N for 13 million for RTX 3050 or 12 million for RTX 2050. Of course, we will try the cheapest one and buy it on Tokopedia, when I checked on Agres, the price was even lower at only 10.2 million. This is about 15% cheaper than their official catalog. Not bad. But the main question is always the same, right? Is a product this cheap like this one any good? Or is it just cheap for the sake of being cheap

this TUF uses an AMD processor. While the one next to it, the F series,
uses Intel. So, it's simple. A15 uses AMD with a size of 15 inches, F15 uses Intel
with a size of 15 inches. A TUF Gaming laptop from Asus... Okay, this is the same
TUF Gaming, TUF Gaming, and here is the FA506N serial number
and others. There are no written specifications, so let's just unpack it.

So, as a budget gamer, maybe just look for the cheapest laptop from Asus, forget about the bag for now, the important thing is to get the laptop first and get the charger first, which has a 150W speed and is quite thin and light, maybe around 300 grams only. The laptop itself is an old TUF model, it seems. If it's a new TUF model or a more expensive one, it seems to be simpler. In the past, we discussed the TUF Gaming which has been rebranded to be simpler, not as gaming-oriented. It looks more like office laptops, not much decoration, just the TUF logo or wording, if I'm not mistaken. Surprisingly, even for the cheapest variant, we still get quite a busy design. This could be a plus or a minus, depending on personal preference. So, the material here is all plastic, of course, the texture feels like Brushed Metal, but it's plastic with lines. Feels like racing, there are so many elements here, just as long as it's crowded. Here is the TUF Gaming, there is an LED indicator, and in terms of weight, it's light. Even though it looks thick, maybe it's around 2 kilos, not really light for a luxurious standard where some are only 1.5 kilos. Right now, it's only 2.2 to 2.3 kilos, not too heavy. Or maybe that's just the first impression lifting it with two hands like this. If you put it in a backpack, it will still feel like that, so it's not considered too light, just not very heavy. As for the ports, on the right side, there is a common port for a mouse receiver or mouse cables or other accessories. The advantage is it doesn't use cheap USB 2.0. It already uses USB 3.1 and in this corner, there is a Kensington Lock. There are exhausts here and it seems like there is an SD card slot. Actually, this is not an SD card slot, just the shape is like a Trapezium, so don't be fooled. Here it is symmetrical. It's actually really cool if a gaming laptop still has it. On the left side here, there is a Combo jack, then there is a USB C 3.2, then there are 2 USB 3, a full HDMI, and here is an RJ45 and a power socket. Then at the back, there are 2 exhaust holes with decorations like a net or a cage or something, and of course, all of them are made of plastic. Since the ASUS TUF has always used exhaust designs that are not fully open. So even though this looks like holes, actually everything is closed. Only 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 maybe if all of them have cavities, if pressed, they might break because they are not solid. I don't know, but if they open more, the air... feels better. I want to compare it to the more expensive TUF. Does the cheaper one have half-hearted holes at the back? This TUF gaming, which costs in the 20 million range, oh okay so if the more expensive one apparently doesn't open all the holes, but it looks more symmetrical and has more shapes. The holes also look thin.

Oh, this is what I mentioned earlier at the beginning about the TUF design that is taken more seriously. The price is higher, so the design value is also considered. This one is simpler with a prominent logo. Meanwhile, the cheaper one, even the hinge is not as strong. Do you realize? Wow, if the cheaper one is only twice the price, then it's better to go with this one. Let's look at the inside, it doesn't look like a cheap laptop that only focuses on low prices. Here, there are many visible heat pipes, 1, 2, 3 fans, and 2 RAMs already using DDR5. So, it's not using the old motherboard that supports DDR4. Even though it's just one stick, it already has 16GB, and the configuration is already dual-channel, so there's no need to add another stick unless you want a larger capacity. Dual-channel doesn't necessarily mean 2 sticks because with DDR5, one stick can already support dual-channel. This is important because about 2 years ago, I emphasized this a lot, even making it the first point in the trap of cheap gaming laptops. It's a big trap number 1, you must use 2 sticks of RAM or dual-channel.

Because back then, all of the RAM was DDR4. Now it's DDR5. The story is a bit different if you want to add something better. Here, there is another SODIMM slot for DDR5, but for this one, 16GB is enough. Another 16GB, because in cheap gaming laptops sometimes they still use 8GB, and that's single channel. Some are DDR4 as well. So, that's quite a plus point from Asus for... what is it... To make people slightly forget about its battery that seems to have been drained quite a bit, right? This battery is only this small. Just 48Wh. So here, it's left empty unused for SATA or SSD. If you want to add additional storage. Here, there is a separate slot for it. This is a PCIe SSD. So, it can be added from the default 512GB in this area. So, this battery will become a weakness that might make you think, right? Because when I look at reviews from tech reviewers and others. This battery, when used normally, only lasts for 4-5 hours, great! Now, let's take a look at the contents. Again, we have to open it with 2 hands. Because if you use only 1 hand. If you want 100% sRGB, you have to look for a slightly more expensive one or find a laptop specialized in that. So, if you want it cheap, you have to choose. The screen size itself is wide. It's 15.6 inches, called A15. As for the keyboard, it's quite large. It's a full-size one with a numpad, and many function keys. Only the trackpad is a bit small. Not really great like laptops such as Zenbook or Thinkpad, especially those that have a nice typing feel. But there are no issues. So, the keystroke feel is a bit deep, but still usable comfortably. So, if the color red appears, everything has to be red. If it's on, everything has to be on. So, what's important is to have a variety of colors, not the rainbow RGB that can be overwhelming. Then, as we saw earlier on the inside, it's already using the latest DDR5, so the internals are all brand new, not leftovers from DDR4, and it has RTX 2050 and Ryzen 5 7000 Series. So, this is a processor from last year. These specs are quite good for its status as the most affordable one because if we add 3 million, we can get a good design with an Intel i5 12th generation and DDR4 RAM, but then we get it in single-channel, so if we want better performance, we need to add more RAM to make it better. Adding more money, the cheapest one doesn't necessarily mean it's the worst of all. I was quite surprised when I found out about that. How about its performance? In terms of SSD speed, it's fast. It's PCIe Gen 4 for sure because it can reach 5000 MB in Read 3800. Again, this is not a super-fast SSD speed for PCIe 4.0 or Gen 5 that can reach over 10,000, but 5000 is better than the standard usually around 3000. The result of the stress test we just did, it just showed that it enjoys editing. It achieved 99.5% stability.

The scores are very high. He definitely passed at 97%. Sometimes there are 97, maybe 98. If this one goes straight to 99.5, so the cooling system that we saw earlier has 3 pipes, 2 fans. It's not just for show. It's not just about being thick but can provide a stable graph like this, straight. Also, its 3D mark has given a very high score. Now it's time for us to try the gaming benchmark. Here we only use PC Game Pass. Because when buying their laptop products, whether it's Asus, TUF, ROG, or Zenbook, they get a free 3-month game pass even though this game pass is already cheap there. Oh, it turns out that from the specifications, it's not really above expectations for the cheapest laptop like this, no surround sound, not much bass. But if you know the context of 10 million, it's okay. Here we try playing using the keyboard, playing a racing game using the keyboard. It seems quite hardcore, if it's Wii, it would be great. Oh, there's the FPS here. So, I don't know what settings it's on. It gets around 30 fps. When we look at the graphics, it's set to high. The VRAM goes over. This is the weakness of the RTX 2050 or the 3050 version with only 4GB. Loading textures might struggle a bit in some good graphics games like Cyberpunk. That's where it's most noticeable. Here you can really feel it, there's even a warning. So, there's a definite limit with the 2050, with 4GB of VRAM, so it's not just about looking at DDR5 RAM, but also the GPU. Let's benchmark it. This is a screenshot result on high settings. So, the highest we got was 30 fps. If we set it to medium, it will definitely be higher, maybe 35 or 40. This is using a single RAM stick. So, when I tested it with 2 sticks, in Forza with Dual channel, it actually got 27 fps. So, adding RAM doesn't really affect this much. What matters more is the VRAM. It's not about the specs like the 2050, but more about the 4GB VRAM, that's the real differentiator. The RAM in the GPU. For Assassin's Creed Valhalla, it averaged 39 with high settings as well. So, it depends on our settings. We need to lower them or compromise on which part. If we use dual sticks, it averaged 40. However, the maximum and minimum are higher. So, there's a slight difference when adding RAM with 2 sticks. For Shadow of the Tomb Raider, it also averaged 59 fps. Here, the difference is seen in the size of the RAM, but the results are still similar. Adding another stick doesn't make a difference. Starting from the cheaper options, 16GB is already good. I was surprised.

Also, try comparing the performance of this TUF A15 with the more expensive TUF F15, which costs 2 million to 3 million more. In terms of the default configuration, this one comes with single-channel DDR4, just one stick, compared to one stick of DDR5. The performance is not significantly different, so spending that extra money, if we don't modify this F15, it will feel the same as the cheapest one. Unless we add more RAM, then its potential will be greatly unleashed. Like I mentioned before, if the RAM is single-channel, please make it dual-channel. The difference is really noticeable, more than the money we add. As for the webcam itself, it's quite bad, and the sound is also very harsh, but it's not surprising. Expensive gaming laptops often don't care about webcams; sometimes they are even removed. ASUS might even require a dongle. It's not surprising for the cheapest one. So, the conclusion for the cheapest ASUS gaming laptop, the TUF Gaming A15 FA506N, how is it? Honestly, it really exceeded expectations. First, about the RAM, I really don't like when they skimp on RAM in cheap gaming laptops. I made a video two years ago about the pitfalls of cheap gaming laptops, but here they actually went for DDR5, so we don't have to add more.

in this laptop, if used normally, it only lasts 4 to 5 hours,

it has keyboard backlighting, so it's quite decent, the speakers are good, 
so if you want to buy the cheapest gaming laptop, is this 
a trap? It turns out it's not, as long as you know what you're getting by watching reviews.
