Students from a high school in Wonju stepped up to save a cat that had been bitten by a snake. They organized a fundraising campaign to encourage participation from the entire student body, and thanks to their efforts, the cat received treatment safely. Reporter Yoo Joo-sung visited this heartwarming scene. 

In the security office of the high school in Wonju, a cat settled in a small open space. The students who first brought the cat to school named her Shuy. Shuy gained a lot of affection from the students due to her cute appearance and gentle personality. During lunch breaks and other free times, the students spent moments with Shuy. However, one day, they discovered that Shuy had been bitten by a snake. A friend went out in the morning to check on the cat and found her in distress. They rushed her to the hospital, where they found out she had been bitten by a snake. The medical expenses amounted to 500,000 won.

It was a burdensome amount to handle. The students, with good intentions, posted on social media and put up posters to raise awareness, and they managed to gather over 600,000 won. Since there was a need for funds, we promoted the cause, and it seems that at least more than one minute of students participated in the collection. The students created a self-directed club to take care of Shuding, buying cat food and applying medicine, and in the process, they gained a lot of strength in their school life. While studying for final exams, stepping out to see the cat felt like a cleansing experience, and it was very uplifting. Teachers also noted that students, who were stressed from academics, became brighter and emotionally more stable while taking care of Shuding. However, the time the students can spend caring for Shuding is limited to two years, so they are selecting junior club members and producing merchandise for Shuding.
