Compared to the latest 1kg-class laptop released recently, it shows much better performance and the battery lasts much longer. Of course, since these are AMD-based now, compatibility is not perfect compared to regular laptops, but it has still improved a lot. You don't need to deal with complex settings, just run it and it will convert and run automatically. So in this video, I will take a closer look at the Galaxy Book Pro, which many people are curious about the chipset it contains. Well, I've talked a lot about AMD and regular laptops, but for those unfamiliar with the terms, let me first explain the concepts briefly. So far, regular Windows PC laptops have been developed based on a standard called x86. But this method is a bit old-fashioned, so the heat dissipation is.

It's severe and the efficiency is a bit low, so the battery drains quickly. As a result, it's not very suitable for mobile devices that we carry around, unlike desktops. That's why smartphones and tablets we usually use are developed with ARM architecture, which is good for heat dissipation and power efficiency, making the battery last much longer. This ARM architecture is excellent for mobile devices. However, why hasn't this excellent ARM architecture been widely used in Windows? Developing with this architecture is different from the x86 architecture used in the past, so the existing programs are not compatible. Therefore, Windows laptops using this ARM chipset have had some difficulties in development. Now, in this video, do you get a sense of what is important? How good is the performance of the Galaxy Book Pro, based on this ARM architecture? How good is the power efficiency, and how long does the battery last?

Fever, how about compatibility, things like that, right? So, I will first show you the product briefly and then explain it step by step. First of all, the Galaxy Book Pro comes in two versions: a 1kg range 14-inch and a 1kg range 16-inch. Usually, the larger 16-inch size is more popular in the market, so most of the tests in this video will be explained based on this product. Regardless of size, the colors are silver and sky blue mixed in a unique sapphire blue single color. The inside of the product is also finished in the same color. In terms of ports, both the 14-inch and 16-inch models have two USB-C ports, a full-size HDMI 2.1 port, and an audio jack. Only the 16-inch model has a USB-A port and a microSD card slot in addition to these. And looking at this C-type port, if it does not support Thunderbolt, then it is not.

You can do it, but this one supports Thunderbolt. To be precise, it's not Thunderbolt 4, but USB 4 based on Thunderbolt 3. Even if you plug in a Thunderbolt device, it recognizes it, and the speed also comes out at Thunderbolt level. So, those who were worried about Thunderbolt compatibility don't need to worry. Next, let's look at the display. This Galaxy Book Pro has a display finish like Samsung's premium notebooks, all integrated into glass, which looks very neat. The display panel is a 16:10 aspect ratio 3K WQXGA OLED display, and the actual image quality is really good. It also has anti-glare treatment, and the touchscreen is responsive. Unfortunately, you can't use a pen separately, and the screen brightness is.

I'm generally on the brighter side with 400 nits, but sometimes Samsung laptops have a feature called Vision Boost Live in the Boost library. However, this product doesn't have that feature in Samsung settings. But if you turn on this feature in Windows settings, the maximum brightness in a bright environment goes up to over 500 nits. Also, the hinge of this display allows stable opening with one hand, and the maximum angle it can be adjusted to is this much. When you look at it up to this point, compared to just an ordinary Samsung premium laptop, there isn't a big difference. But the real deal starts now. Well then, it's time to examine the performance that many people are curious about. Before the performance test, there is something that must be done without fail, which is to dismantle the product a bit. As mentioned earlier, ARM-based laptops tend to have quite a bit of heat dissipation because x86 laptops sometimes do not have cooling fans inside.

Many laptops come with a fanless design, but I wonder how the Galaxy Book Pro 360 is. If it has a fan, how often does it turn on and how noisy is it? I took a closer look at the product, and I confirmed that it indeed has a fan. However, when I flipped it over because the lower cover felt a bit bulky, I was really surprised. As someone who considers themselves a tech YouTuber and has reviewed laptops, I have never seen such a structure in a portable laptop before. The bottom plate is really sturdy. The storage structure is also very robust, especially with this thick foam padding under the battery area. When you push it in or when there is no sound, it often feels a bit lacking, but the Book Folio Edge is very solid when you press the bottom plate like this. So, I thought, Ah, they really made it sturdy this time. The 14-inch doesn't have this kind of structure, only the 16-inch has this structure applied. Of course, the 14-inch's lower cover is also made of aluminum, and the reinforcement plate is well done, so it is sturdy enough. If you press the bottom of the 16-inch, you can definitely feel a difference in the depth it goes in and the stability. And by handling the bottom plate like this, it can absorb the impact that goes to the battery when impacted, and it can also help dissipate the heat generated from the battery widely. So, when these things are included, the product price goes up, and the weight increases, but Samsung considers not only weight important but also a bit more about product quality.

It seems like they are talking about paying more attention. Also, upon looking inside again, both the 14-inch and 16-inch models have two coolers, and heat is dissipated around the high-temperature area. As you might have expected, the cooling system of the 16-inch model is better equipped than that of the 14-inch model. This means that the performance of the 16-inch model will be slightly better than that of the 14-inch model. But I wonder if they could have made a penless model altogether, do they really need to include a pen? However, considering that the Qualcomm-made Snapdragon x Elite set emphasizes performance so much, I think they designed it this way. Now, we need to see how often this pen is used and how much noise it generates. If we look further inside, we can compare the 14-inch and 16-inch models.

Everyone, there are four speakers like this, and you cannot add or replace storage devices separately. I won't mention the speakers separately, okay? Good. It's at a similar level to other Samsung premium notebooks. The battery capacity, as you expected, is larger in the 16-inch model compared to the 14-inch. Now, let's move on to the performance test. Many people are expected to purchase the 16-inch model used for the test, especially the high-performance version exclusively for Samsung, but I will conduct the test with the basic version. It's worth noting that the firmware version of the model I tested is not the mass-produced final firmware. Oh, before we start the actual test, let me just briefly mention that when I usually conduct performance tests, I consider the power consumption in various situations.

How it works, then we'll draw that on a graph and explain it, right? But this product cannot read various CPU information, including power consumption, from any software, including hardware info. That's about it. So, I thought about how to explain this for better understanding. I will compare the test results with a popular 1kg-class latest laptop these days and talk about it. I won't mention the exact product name due to certain circumstances, but for those who know a bit about tech or have watched many of my videos, you might roughly guess what products I'm talking about. Anyway, even in this situation, I am really trying my best to deliver good information to all of you.

So, if you haven't subscribed to my channel yet, please subscribe. The first thing I will show you is the PC test, which is most commonly used in the Cinebench. When I originally reviewed laptops, I used Cinebench R23 for better comparison with other devices that were used before. However, in an AMD environment, the performance was a bit lower, so I will use the Cinebench 2024 model designed for AMD. This test took much longer, but the score difference was much smaller when tested multiple times. So, I tried testing it once, and wow, I was surprised by the results. The multi-score is 927, and the single score is 115. At first, I doubted if I saw the score correctly. Please don't compare this score with Cinebench R23; this score is quite good based on Cinebench 2024 standards.

In terms of performance, when compared to other 1kg-class latest laptops, typically, a single-core score is around 100 points, and for multi-core, it usually reaches about 500 points. However, this one has a multi-core score that is nearly double that, which is impressive. So, you can imagine how good this score is. I wish I could show you by lining up various other laptops, but I can't show you all of them, which is a bit regrettable. Also, this benchmark score is quite impressive. This Cinebench benchmark is really a tough benchmark, so when testing, usually, the cooler spins and makes a lot of noise. But with this one, even though the cooler is spinning, the noise is really minimal. It doesn't make as much noise as a typical x86 laptop, maybe around 40% to 50% less. So, I thought that with this setup, the internal heat generation might be well expelled outward.

It occurs less frequently. Typically, the temperature of the outlet structure where hot air comes out is common to exceed 50 degrees for an x86 notebook, or the highest temperature only reaches around 43 degrees at most. The temperature of the keyboard part is even lower than that. So, the performance is much better, the noise is also good, and the temperature is much lower. So, I am very satisfied. However, when we usually test PC notebooks, we often use Cinebench a lot, but this tests the performance in extreme situations. To see how the performance comes out in more realistic situations, it is more useful to test alternately with easy tasks and difficult tasks using Geekbench. So, I also ran this test, but I was really surprised several times here. First of all, during this test, the fan doesn't run at all. I tested it in silent mode.

I thought I did well, but after seeing the score, I realized I didn't. The single scored nearly 2800 points, while the multi scored close to 15,000 points. This is quite significant. When compared to a similar recent x86 Windows laptop, the difference is substantial. I thought the performance would significantly decrease if I unplugged the adapter, but it didn't decrease much. It still provides almost 90% of the performance. Qualcomm seems confident in the Snapdragon x Elite performance, but I wonder why. So, now, instead of CPU tests, I will conduct a performance test that automatically evaluates how smoothly it runs tasks like general document work, email tasks, and web surfing. Until now, I have set this laptop to high-performance mode to achieve the best performance, but for this test, I will use the default settings without any adjustments and see how it performs in typical tasks.

When you work, how comfortable it is to watch Z, I will set the power without the adapter to the optimization mode, not the high-performance mode. As a result, I got a score of 5500. Just mentioning the score might not give you a good sense. If you compare it with the X80 laptop under the same conditions, you can see that the score is almost 1.5 times better. Even if you look at the detailed items, you can see that you can finish the work much faster if you do the same task. Looking at these numbers, you can see that what used to be done quickly is now even faster, and items that used to take a long time are now much shorter, with a difference of almost 1.5 times to nearly six times less. Especially the ability to calculate complex functions in Excel has really improved, and when working on documents like this, regular Windows laptops really work hard on cooling.

When I turned back, this one didn't make any noise of the cooler running at all, so I really wondered if the cooler was not running. So, I listened closely with my ear, and it was running slightly, but if this is the level of running, it's almost not running. So, what I felt after trying the Galaxy Book Flex is that in a typical working environment, unless you do extreme tests or performance tests like games, you probably won't hear the sound of the cooler running. It is very comfortable for typical document work. Then, you might think, If the performance is good when working on documents like this, does the battery drain really fast? So, I was curious about that, and I tested how long the battery could last by running the document work test I just did continuously without a break, and also tested the screen brightness.

The manufacturer tested it at a brightness of 250 nits, not the dark brightness of 150 nits. But as you can see, the battery lasted for a whopping 11 and a half hours. What's truly surprising about this time is that if you test the battery of a popular modern laptop with a battery capacity of around 70 to 80 watt-hours, it usually lasts about 10 and a half hours. However, this one has a battery capacity of 62 watt-hours. If the battery capacity is almost 80% of that and the usage time is reduced by about 80%, it should have stopped around 8 and a half hours. But in reality, the battery usage time lasted for 11 and a half hours, surpassing the larger capacity x86 laptops in terms of battery life. This shows how good the power efficiency is. Moreover, this wasn't even the same performance or at the same speed for the same tasks. Even when performing the same tasks, you can work much faster and more comfortably in a much shorter time.

But the fact that the battery life is long, the pen works well, and there is less heat generation, why are manufacturers of Windows laptops making such efforts to create ARM-based laptops these days? I think I might know for sure. However, I became curious here, not just for document work tests, but also for video playback tests, how long the battery lasted when I tested it. In fact, some information has already been revealed in the community, but as mentioned earlier, the screen brightness was set to 150 nits. Since I tested it by playing files that are already stored on the computer, not by testing with YouTube or Netflix, it shows about 22 hours or so. But when I continuously exchanged data based on a more demanding standard of 250 nits and played videos based on YouTube, it lasted almost 9 hours and 55 minutes, nearly 10 hours.

Video playback was possible. If I interpret the test results a bit differently from document work, unlike this, when it comes to YouTube video playback, I didn't feel that the ARM laptop lasted as long as expected compared to x86 laptops. It seems that in situations where continuous network communication like YouTube is involved, the efficiency of the CPU itself may have a significant impact on battery consumption in the network. Ultimately, the true value of the Galaxy Book Pro's battery performance seems to shine not only during video playback but also during document work or web surfing. The typing experience is excellent, so it seems really suitable for office use. I will let you hear the typing sound for your reference. However, if you purchase this laptop, not only for word, PowerPoint, Excel, internet, but also for office use, it seems very suitable.

You might be using programs or playing games, so I will talk a bit about game compatibility. To start with the conclusion, this aspect has been greatly improved compared to before. There are parts that can cover even programs that were originally incompatible due to the performance of this thing, but there still seem to be many areas to improve. For example, MapleStory or StarCraft, in the past, couldn't even run in the front window, or if they did run, the game crashed once you entered it. Now, you can enter the game and it runs properly. However, whether it's Maple or Star, when you first run it, it quietly executes an x86 program in the background, working hard to convert and adapt things. It took a few seconds longer than I expected at the initial startup, and after running it, the frame...

In the case of StarCraft Remastered, it's not completely flawless, but it's so well-made that you can say there are no strange issues at all. The frame rate is good, and the game runs smoothly. On the other hand, MapleStory, although StarCraft games didn't run well, it was still quite stable for playing. It maintained almost 60 frames per second. I was curious about how other high-quality or popular games would perform, so I tried running something else. Well, Overwatch 2, a game played by many people, I tried running it once. Firstly, it runs smoothly, and when I actually played the game, I won. However, if you look at the screen, the graphics settings can only go up to a maximum of ACV quality while playing this game. Also, even though the game runs at a relatively high frame rate when I play, there are moments where the frame rate drops significantly in the middle. So, to be honest, it wasn't a situation where I could play the game properly.

Graphics also tend to break like this in some parts, but if you turn off the auto high-resolution function in the display settings here, you can select the resolution properly like this. Considering that the resolution has increased, the basic frames are coming out quite well. However, I still feel interruptions like this occasionally, so it seems that there is frame damage in the process of emulation. So, what about games like League of Legends that many people play? League of Legends didn't even run in the first place, probably due to an anti-cheat security program issue. Therefore, before the product is released, we plan to clearly identify which games or programs are not compatible. As of the date of posting this video, Premiere Pro is working like this, and when I tried running Photoshop, the official version came out, so it can run properly, almost as well as x86. Therefore, compatible apps are.
