Hey everyone, as you saw in that intro, I can walk again, but not quite the same as I used to. I'll explain it more as we get wheeled around by my dad here. Today's date is Wednesday, October 16th, 2024. The time's about 7:00 p.m. Temperatures 53°F, 12°C. We're going to be pushed to Athens Square Park here from the Our Lady of Mount Carmel church here in Astoria, Queens. A little chilly tonight. Yeah, it is. It's the autumn weather. Was that a raccoon I saw? Thought I saw something big and fluffy go to the left here. Maybe it was a cat. Maybe. But anyway, I saw the doctor today, and the doctor cleared me for walking. However, there are limitations. I had X-rays taken. Looks like all my bones are in place. They're

healing up, and it's been about 8 and 1/2 weeks since I fell from an electric scooter in Toronto, Canada, and broke my midfoot. But the doctor made me take some steps in the office today, asked me how the pain was, and had everything measured. There was no to minimal pain, just a little bit of pressure when I put some weight on my feet. But the doctor's orders are to take it easy. If I do need to walk on this foot, I need to do it with this medical boot here, and I'm only instructed to take five steps in the morning, five steps in the afternoon, and five steps in the evening, increasing it by five steps a day. So tomorrow, I should do 10 steps during those times. But today, I need to get five steps done for the evening, and what better way to get my five steps in than showing you [Music]. All you're such a show-off. Hey, uh, I came from walking like over 10,000 steps a day to now only doing 15.

Steps how that's crazy. Well, it's a start. And after that, I need to see the doctor again in 2 weeks, and hopefully by then I'll be able to get some physical therapy and slowly getting my strength back in this foot. I wonder if cycling would be good for it. I mean, you are putting weight on the foot there with cycling, and even standing on the foot is uh, is good too because what happens is the body needs to uh, adjust for there to be weight on the foot again so it could like rebuild the nerve endings and the ligaments to like move the way they're supposed to. Don't forget the doctor told you to ice it too because as you put weight on the foot, it's going to uh, swell a little bit too, you know. Oh yeah, he said that's a sign of the foot healing. Yep, that's all part of the healing process. But I'm extremely happy with the results today. I thought I was going to be able to walk the last time I saw the doctor.

two weeks ago, but he told me I wasn't ready yet. Then there was still a little bit of pain. It was pain from the ligaments being stretched, right? Yeah, because the portion of the foot that I broke was the midfoot, and it has a specific name for it. There's the, it's a Liz Frank injury, so it's like part bone and part ligament, which is why it may take a little bit longer than normal to heal. It's not completely bone. Yeah, the doctor said that the pain that you were feeling was not from the bone but from the ligaments. Yes, because bones don't have nerves. If you break a bone, you don't really feel pain. It's pain from like the swelling and the inflammation and the nerve endings. Yeah, hopefully by the time I see the doctor next time, I could take 70 steps a day. I mean, um, 70 steps during each time of the day, so 210 steps total. I don't know how long it's going to take me to get to 10,000 steps again.

but whoa, if we keep hitting curves at that speed and rotation, I'm going to be back to square one again if I fall over. Please don't say that. I don't want to keep pushing you around. I've got to be cycling. We only took the wheelchair, by the way, everyone, because it's easier for me to record from, but not as easy for my dad to push me around. But thankfully, we're not going far. No big deal. No big deal. Oh, here's Athens Square Park over here. It's good. Yeah, over here is good. Okay, all right, let's turn me around. Okay, [Music] so now is the moment of truth. The first time me walking. I'm going to give this camera to my dad now. The cane should be on the side where your foot is fractured, right? I think it's the opposite. Are you sure? Yeah, because you need weight on the opposite side. I think I'm pretty sure it's on the fracture side. The fractured side? Oh, yeah. Okay, the year that I hurt myself cycling.

I hurt my, uh, my left hip. Mhm. Oh, maybe I did use the other side. Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm... you... I'm going to... I'm going to pump some air in this boot first.
