But let me tell you, every year we make a video on smartphone trends. But this year is a little different. A lot of new things are going to be seen. And that's why this video is very important. But this is going to give you a glimpse of how smartphones are going to be in the next 12 months. Let's start! Friends, we saw an interesting trend in 2024. There weren't many phones under Rs 10K. In fact, the phones that were under Rs 10K in the Diwali sale were launched at Rs 15K.

And then their price dropped. Because with good chipsets, 5G smartphones weren't under Rs 10K. And people's appetite has increased to buy phones. This means they want expensive phones with more features. And you weren't getting them under Rs 10K. And that's why most of the phones weren't launched & people didn't even buy them. But in 2025, this is going to change. You know, even if you are on a budget & you want to buy a 2nd phone & you don't have much budget, it is going to be a good year. Let's talk about flagship phones first. 8 Elite & Dimensity 9400, both these chipsets have been launched. And in the next 1-3 months, you're going to see a lot of flagship phones. In fact, most of them are going to be flagships. And we're going to showcase how flagship phones are going to be in 2025.

First, there are going to be 3NM chipsets, which are going to be more efficient. In 2024, it's going to be 4NM, and in 2023, it's going to be 5NM. There's an incremental update, and efficiency is increasing. You're going to see a 2.8-2.9M AnTuTu score. The optimized ones are going to be up to 3M. That's crazy! You're going to be able to play great racing games at 40-50FPS. I mean, that's excellent power on a smartphone because of AI. On-Device Processing has become very important. And because of that, RAM consumption has become very important. That's why the base variant of flagship phones is going to be 12GB only. So, 12GB 256GB is going to be the base variant for most flagships. Till now, we were seeing that 16GB was the top variant for

90% phones. Now, it's going to go up to 24GB. So, the base variant is 12GB, and the top variant is 24GB. 1TB, 24GB, and 2TB storage. You'll get something like this. Now, let's look at each one. First, let's talk about RAM and storage type. From Rs 25K to Rs 50K-60K, this is the price range. In all of them, you'll get UFS 4.0. And in phones above Rs 15K, you'll get UFS 3.1. But I'd like to say 1 thing: if you're going to buy a phone in 2025, there should be a minimum of UFS 3.1, even in budget phones. Even in budget phones, it's fine if it's under Rs 10K. But Rs 15K, Rs 20K, Rs 25K, there should be a minimum of UFS 3.1.

And I think that's what's going to happen. Like we used to call it LPDDR 4X, now we'll call it LPDDR 5 or 5X. Display. How's the display going to be? There's a different trend here. You're going to see curved display in flagships. But those curves will be quad micro curved displays. Because it'll be a more curved display. It looks premium, but it has unwanted touches. So there are a lot of issues in gaming. And people generally buy flagships to play powerful games. That's why now brands have developed micro quad curved displays. Because of this, you'll be able to play games & get the premiumness of a curved display. But yes, in budget phones, you're going to see more curved displays. Now it's possible for brands to give you curved displays in Rs 15-17K phones. And most curved displays will launch with curved displays. The brightness of the panels is going to increase.

In fact, if you used to look at it 18-24 months ago, then I'd say 1200 nits is very good. Now the peak brightness is around 6000-6500 nits. You're going to get good brightness displays in the premium mid-range. But if I talk about the HBM high brightness mode, it's going to be around 1500-1800 nits. So you're going to get good outdoor & indoor displays. Now all flagships will have LTPO. Till now in 2024, LTPO was present in some flagships. But now, uniformly, all flagships will have LTPO. And not just that, there will be adaptive refresh rate. But till now it was around 10, 30, 60, 120 Hz. Now 1 Hz to 120 Hz should be minimum. There will be some phones that will start with 0.1 Hz. So your lock screen or AOD is going to be on 0.1 Hz.

And if I talk about the display, let me tell you about the fingerprint sensor. Since 2023, we're talking about the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. In 2024, so many brands haven't launched phones with ultrasonic fingerprint sensors. But in 2025, it's going to be different. You're going to see ultrasonic fingerprint sensors in flagships. And I'll request the brands that if you're buying a flagship, then please give ultrasonic fingerprint sensors. One thing is definitely going to happen about the flagships. Their prices are going to increase. The iQOO 12, which was one of the cheapest flagships in 2024, used to start at Rs 50K. This time, the cheapest flagship phone on the 8th elite is going to be priced at Rs 60-65K. The price is going to rise by 15-20%. And the reason is that these chipsets are not only powerful, but they're also expensive.

So if the price increases, then the prices of your smartphones are also going to increase, especially if I talk about flagships. A lot of phones that will launch this year, suppose you use the 8th gen 3, then you'll use the 1-year-old chipset. But you won't get the phones for Rs 2400. You'll get these phones at a lower price. You might get the 8th gen 3 phone for Rs 35K or closer to Rs 30K during the sale season. If you're going to get that phone at that price in 2025, then it's going to be excellent. So you're also going to get value for money, kind of flagship killers. Let me come to the cameras. There are a lot of things in the cameras. But let's talk about the battery. And in the battery, according to me, we're seeing a major change for the first time in 10-15 years.

We're seeing high-density batteries. You're using silicon carbon, which can pack a lot of capacity in the same form factor & size. That's why the benchmark of a 5000 mAh battery is going to move to 6000 mAh. In fact, you'll see a lot of phones at 6200 mAh or 6500 mAh. So think about it, more power-efficient chipsets, bigger batteries, faster charging. Earlier the median was 60-70W, now it's going to be around 90-100W. Even for a phone for Rs 20-30K. The time it used to take you to charge a 5000 mAh battery, it's going to take you around 6000-6500 mAh. So bigger battery, more battery life, faster charging. And in a lot of mid-range phones, wireless charging is going to be introduced. Durability is going to improve. IP68, which was reserved for flagships, is now going to be

seen in phones for Rs 25-30K. So basically, phones are going to get more durable, more waterproof, more dust resistant. So that's a good thing, they're going to last longer. Display & back durability is going to be on top of Gorilla Glass Victus. Earlier we used to call it Gorilla Glass 4, 5. Now, even in phones for Rs 20-30K, you're going to see Gorilla Glass Victus. You're going to see Gorilla Glass Armor in flagships, which is even more powerful. But overall, if we talk about durability, it's definitely going to improve in 2025. Connectivity is also going to change a lot. Till now, we used to see Wi-Fi 6 in flagships. This year, Wi-Fi 7 has been introduced. So a lot of flagship phones are going to support Wi-Fi 7. But till now, we used to see dual band Wi-Fi in mid range &

budget phones. Even phones for Rs 20-25K didn't have Wi-Fi 6, only dual-band Wi-Fi 5. Now, you'll get all phones above Rs 20K with Wi-Fi 6. That's going to be great. You'll get Bluetooth 5.4 in all mid-range, premium & flagship phones. Even Bluetooth 6.0 has been introduced. So after 6 months, flagship phones will come with Bluetooth 6.0. So that will be awesome as well. USB 3.1 is coming in the 3rd generation. So you're going to get more data transfers. In fact, you're going to see data transfer rates above 10.10Gbps in flagship phones. I mean, yes, very good. You're going to get more phones with satellite connectivity. If I talk about overall connectivity, it's going to be an incremental update. But it's going to be more in terms of connectivity. Because new technologies like Wi-Fi 7 & Bluetooth 6.0 have

been introduced. Now, let's talk about software. You'll get all phones from JAN & FEB on Android 15. But the good thing is, when we did the unboxing 2 years ago, we got an upgrade of 1 year. That's fantastic! But now, that's not enough. If you're buying a phone for Rs 15-20K, you'll need major updates for at least 3 years. Do you know why this is important? Because AI features are going to be introduced in the next 6-12 months. And if you want all these new features, then you'll need major software upgrades. So you're going to get 3 years of upgrades. And I'm sure brands are going to do that. But if you're buying a flagship phone, it's going to be 6 years & above. 3-4 years is not enough for a flagship phone. If I'm buying a phone for Rs 60-65K, I'll need at least 6-7

years of upgrades. In fact, we just tested Oxygen UI 15. I mean, it looks so snappy. When you use it, you'll come to know that the OS's core is very good. Earlier, there were bugs & stutters. Now, what I'm seeing, especially since we tested Oxygen UI, and it's a colour OS core, all these have become very snappy & the animations have become very smooth. So they're definitely much more improved. And we talk so much about bloatware, so we're seeing less & less bloatware in smartphones in 2024. If you compare it with 2023, it was less. It's going to be even less in 2025. But the OS features that are going to be differentiated, are going to have AI features. And they're going to be visible in the camera as well. They'll be visible in productivity as well. Whatever you do on your smartphones every day, there's going to be some AI aspect in everything.

If you want to search for something, you can use the AI. If you want to use a battery, you can use the AI. AI is going to be everywhere, and new features are going to be launched every 2-3 months. And those are not gimmicky, but useful and functional AI features which will be launched in 2025. I'm very excited about it. The work that you'll do in half an hour, you'll be able to do it in 15-20 minutes with the help of AI. So that's going to be nice. Finally, the cameras are definitely going to improve. But it's not going to be an upgrade, it's going to be a downgrade. Why? Because in the Trends video of 2024, I said that a lot of phones are going to come with 1-inch sensors. But brands are checking that because 1-inch sensors are big, and it's difficult to pack everything in a smartphone. So the LYT sensors from Sony are going to come.

The 1-inch sensor trend, according to me, is not going to be there. There'll be upgraded cameras and sensors, but not 1-inch sensors. The output of the camera is going to improve a lot because of AI. There's going to be a lot of focus on post-processing, and you're going to get the end result. Whether it's a video, a photo, a portrait, or a selfie, AI processing is going to come, and it's going to be much better than previous years. Now, according to me, the 3X telephoto is still available in a lot of phones. We didn't get to see such good quality, but there we're definitely going to see an improvement. The portrait that you get from the 3X is going to be good. You're going to get a proper, pure, optical, lossless 3X zoom, which I think is a welcome change. There'll be AI in the camera app as well.

If you want to frame, AI will tell you how to frame it. If you want to take an extra photo, you'll be able to feel it. If you want to take something out, you'll be able to take it out. If you want to edit it, you'll be able to do it. It opens up exciting possibilities. Finally, let me tell you about the foldables. We've already seen the tri-fold. In 2025, there might be 2-3 more brands launching tri-fold. But one thing is definitely going to happen. You'll get bigger foldable phones for Rs 70-80K in this price range. You'll get flipable phones for Rs 40-50K in this price range. And again, they'll be much more powerful. I think the foldable market is maturing. They used to be very expensive & out of reach for masses. Now, it's not going to be like that. These are going to be the trends of 2025 for smartphones.
