the Tesla Optimus humanoid robots at the robotaxi event were teleoperated by Tesla staff. There was human assistance, and the way sources describe it to me is any interaction with guests like conversations, pouring drinks, games of rock-paper-scissors were done by teleoperation. Walking around or dancing by Optimus was more autonomous. And here's the backstory: about 3 weeks before the event, Elon Musk decided he wanted the robots there, so he went to the Optimus team and told them so, and they had a very short window to make it happen. They couldn't make the advances on software when it came to computer vision and locomotion to make that a reality; teleoperation was their only choice. They had plenty of Optimus robot units; they didn't need to necessarily build more; they just couldn't crack the software. And it's important, right, because Musk did not state that there was teleoperation. The Tesla AI team did not say there was human assistance. Many suspected there was, right? Many guests asked and were told by engineers or the

robots themselves, that there was an element of human assistance. But it was an event that was supposed to be about Robo taxi, and for many, Optimus was the main takeaway. Must said that the future is much nearer in terms of having a personal robot that could cost as little as $20,000. Now, there are questions about actually how capable Optimus is and the amount of progress they have made and needs to be made to meet that reality.
