hello ladies and gentlemen. It's Mike here at Game from Scratch, and if you caught my earlier video today about Unreal Engine's fab announcement, and you watched it all the way through, well, first off, congratulations to you. You're well-informed. Also, you can probably skip this video because you probably already know what I'm going to talk about. But if you are not, you really want to watch this one because Quickel, all the stuff behind Quickel Mega scans, you can get it completely for free, and it's super important you do this as we will find out in just a second. First off, CXL is a service that Epic Games acquired back in November of 2019, so they've owned it for a number of years now. It is a gigantic repository of scans, of textures, of 3D objects, and the cool thing is you can actually use it unlimited amounts if you currently use it with Unreal Engine. However, this is going away, so you've got this ability right now. You can subscribe, you can pay a subscription, and get a

number of points get various different assets based on the amount of money you spent. But if you're currently using Unreal Engine, you can use all the assets completely for free. And there is an absolute ton in here. So the CXL Omega scans Archive of real-life textures and objects is gigantic. So you're looking at 18,876 items in here, just a huge collection of real-world scans, real high-quality stuff. And the reason why we were talking about this today is ultimately because of this. Now this is Fab. Fab is the new Marketplace from Epic Games. It is going to replace the Unreal Engine Marketplace, but it is also going to replace the storefront for Quixel. It's going to replace ArtStation, SketchFab. And so this is a gigantic development, but the most impact is definitely when it comes to Quixel. And let's head on over to the specifics of that announcement. So this is the announcement about Fab. I'm not going to go through all of that all over again because quite frankly, I covered it.

In that other video, I will link that video down below if you want to learn more about Fab, the lach, the migration, and all of that stuff. But what the important part is, what is it going to mean for quicko, and there's some huge ramifications here. So, when Fab launches quickel Mega scans, content will move from quick.com and Bridge to Fab and be available through the Fab website and Fab Unreal Engine and uef and Integrations. Now, the cool thing about Fab is it is a game engine agnostic, so it's going to have Unity support out of the box and more game engines down the road. So, in 2025, we will begin charging for quickel Omega scans to support the ongoing Improvement, curation, and development of new Mega scans content. Yes, you read that right, the free lunch is over. So, if you're currently using CC Mega scans in your Unreal Engine project, the freebie of using these two together, it's going away. So, that is definitely a downside to this announcement. So, they will continue to

offer some content for free. The majority of Mega scans will no longer be available for free unlimited use in Unreal Engine projects. Yikes! But this paragraph is the very purpose why I made this video. From Fab launch until the end of 2024. So Fab is launching in October. From Fab's launch until the end of 2024, Mega scans will be free for everyone under Fab standard license for all engines and tools. When you acquire Quixel content on Fab, whether free or paid, you can use it forever. So what that means is what you're going to want to do is head on over to Quixel right here and acquire everything, all of it, every single asset in there. You can pick it up. Hopefully, someone writes a script to make this easy to do. But everything that you acquire, which is going to be free until the end of the year, you can use it forever. So effectively, from October to December, all of Mega scan's content seemingly is going to be completely free and perpetual licensed. So if you're kind of in that state now.

where you're using it for free with Unreal Engine. Go and grab everything. If you're using another game engine, go and grab everything. If you've never heard of game development in your life, go and grab everything 'cause this is a limited-time offer, and it's literally thousands upon thousands, probably millions upon millions of free assets, textures, 3D objects. It's a huge deal. Go get everything. You will continue to have access to any previously acquired content through Quick.com and the Bridge app. Many humans will also continue to be available via Bridge until they move over to Fab. We'll eventually discontinue hosting Quickel content on Quick.com and the Bridge app, and we'll provide advanced notice when that time approaches. Starting today, they are discontinuing automatic renewals of paid subscriptions. So if you're currently subscribed to Quick Soul, you're not going to auto-resubscribe because, quite frankly, it is effectively going free in October until the end of the year, and at which point even Unreal Engine users are going

to have to start paying for the content. So, what this means is go and get everything, just grab it all, buy it all. It kind of reminds me of when Mixamo made all their animations free. You got the ability to go there, grab all of them, and keep them perpetually, and that seemingly has never gone away. Hopefully, it works out the same way here with this Quixel announcement. So again, some good news and some bad news. The bad news is the free for Unreal Engine people part is going away, and they're going to start charging. That is unfortunate. Good news, this clause right here. So, all of the Quixel stuff starting in October is going to be completely free for a limited time, and if you buy it, it will be yours to use forever.
