hey, welcome, welcome back to the channel. Today, we're going to talk about the Leica Deluxe 8 that I have right here. The first thing that came to mind is, wow, that looks like a mini Leica Q3, and I'm going to tell you why. Let's first talk about the design, which is what they changed the most. The design looks completely different from the Deluxe 7 or previous iterations. In fact, in the back here, you have a play button, a menu button, two little buttons on top, and that's about it. And that looks very, very, very similar to what we have on other cameras from Leica right now. And that's really cool. That's something I appreciate a lot. Okay, the front is also different. You have this sort of leather red in the front here and the little Leica logo, and it's all black. It's nice, and it really looks streamlined. The other thing they changed is the menus. The menus now look the same as any other Leica camera. So when I got this camera

first, I went through the menus. It took me a few moments, and I was good to go. Everything was ready. I was familiar with it. I knew where my options were, where everything was, and it was just simple to use. So that's another very, very big plus. The other thing they added is the USB-C charging port, so you can now charge this through USB-C. So you don't have to bring a special charger around or anything else. You can just take your usual regular USB-C and charge it with it. That is another big plus if you're going to be using this for traveling, which most of you are. I totally forgot the fact that the Delux did not have DG file support, so you couldn't shoot raw, wherein now you can shoot raw and JPEG. And let's not forget that this has a micro 4/3 sensor. I'll tell you more about that in a moment. So the fact of having DG and having a little more flexibility in your dynamic range, your shadows, your highlights is a good addition. So talking about the sensor, this has a 17-megapixel

cosos micro 43 sensor, which is the same as found on the Deluxe 7. Some of you might think 17 megapixels is not enough, or it's not a lot. And while it's true that it does not compete with the 60 million pixels that we have on other Leica cameras nowadays, but it is also true that thinking back a few years ago, 16 megapixels was really good. So 17, honestly, I think is plenty of enough. In fact, the multi-resolution sensors of the new Leica cameras allow you to go down to 18 megapixels, which for some people is enough. It boasts the same 10.9 to 34 mm f1.7 to f2.8 lens, which is a full framing equivalent of 24 to 75. And 24 to 75 is the lens that I use for all my weddings on my Leica SL 2s. So in terms of focal length, I think they nailed it. The ISO ranges from 200 to 25,600. It has the same 3-inch fixed screen.

so this is not going to flip out like on the Q3. The EVF kept the same resolution. Talking of the EVF, it is not the same as found on the Leica Q3, the SL3, and so forth. Those are stellar EVF, but for the size, the price, and the type of camera, I think the EVF is more than okay and acceptable. And I started enjoying it, actually. They include in the box an on-camera flash, a little flash that you can use to shoot either if you want to open the shadows a little bit or if you just want to do that specific look with on-camera flash, you can do so, and that is great. I didn't get it with the camera when they sent it to me, but it's good to have. Now what I did do is because there's a hot shoe mount on top here, I decided to take a few shots of myself 'cause I did have a model for the time being here in the studio. So I set up a two-light setup, two flashes. Let's now

talk about weight for this Deluxe 8. It weighs 397 G as compared to 403 G for the Delux 7. That is a whooping 6 G difference between the two. Needless to say, you're not going to feel that difference, but it is a little lighter like for every other Deluxe before this. It is not weather resistant. Is this a big deal? No, it isn't, at least not for me, unless you actually leave work or are going to shoot in a very humid and or very dusty environment. That should not be a deal breaker. There is a macro mode on the side. Here it says autofocus with a little flower next to it, the micro sign, and I really like that. I do want to mention it in this video because I like going out and taking micro shots or at least being able to do so whenever I want to, and you can do that with this camera like on the likea Q, and I think it's great. I should mention the battery. Battery life seems to be okay. I didn't manage to go down to zero yet, so so far

so good. One thing I did notice though, is that there isn't the EVF detection, only you know when you just put your eye like this, and it turns on the screen, and when you let go, it turns it off automatically. That's something that helps save battery. Usually, it would be great if in a firmware update, they would change that so that you can leave the EVF off and just detect when you're going to take a photo. You can also use standby mode, so after, let's say, a minute or two, it goes into standby mode, and that way you save battery. You can connect to the Leica photo app on your phone or your tablet with this camera. That means that if you're out there and you want to share photos on your social media, or you want to share them with a friend, with family, or whatever, you can do so. You just connect to your phone or your tablet and off you go. That is a great feature for a camera that's supposed or that's aimed towards bringing it with you everywhere.

and just having it with as a pocket camera. Now let's talk about the quality of the photos, shall we? I think the quality of the photos is good. I think it's very good, actually. I was surprised and good when I uh took this camera at first. I don't know, I was a little skeptical in terms of image quality. Um, Micro 4 third and and so Compact and so forth, but in the end, really, I don't notice the fact that it's a Micro 4 third camera, really, if you see what I mean. I think it's it's very good, the quality is great. Um, you're going to get stunning shots, and I mean you can take this with you in your purse, in your bag, in your backpack, or whatever, in holidays, for every day, take it with you anywhere, and it's a great companion, I think it will take great photos. So right now, it's, you know, the big thing of having these compact cameras, for example, the x00 series from Fuji, just to mention one.

I think this could compete pretty easily with that. Just the fact of having a zoom lens is great. Not stuck with a fixed lens. For example, yes it is micro 43. It's not an APSC or full-frame, but really who cares for the size of this camera. I don't think it's a deal breaker by all means. So if you're looking into buying either your first like a camera or a compact camera, I would look into this seriously. I think it's a great great great alternative and choice.
