Hello and welcome to the introduction to Python course. My name is James Derek, and I will be your instructor over the next 10 lessons. I am a Python software developer in Ansys with several years of professional development experience and a PhD in the numerical simulation of granular shock physics. Before that, the course covers the very basics of Python as a programming language, all the way from what is a variable to how to create a simple command line interface, with some meta topics thrown in for good measure, including simple guides debugging. We also include a brief introduction to scientific Python, with instruction on the basics of numerical Python, aka NumPy, and Python's de facto plotting library, Matplotlib. These lessons have been based on the software carpentry course, Programming with Python, which was originally created to bring Python to scientists in academia. In this course, we have modified the direction of the themes to fit a more engineer-centric audience, drawing on my experience as a software developer with a background in physics and engineering.
