According to a sociologist, even very introverted people influence an average of 10,000 others throughout their lives. Can you believe that? I was quite surprised myself. Just imagine how much influence someone like you, a leader or someone aspiring to be a leader, can have! 

Therefore, it’s important for us to keep in mind that everyone, in their own position in life, inevitably influences others in some form. Of course, this influence isn’t always positive; it can sometimes be negative as well.

In the places where we live, we are making an impact. It's true that our actions can influence our parents, siblings, and friends. Whether we realize it or not, everyone’s life is affected by others. I was surprised to hear a sociologist say that even very introverted people influence an average of ten thousand people throughout their lives. This shows how significant each of our influences can be. I think it would be good for us to keep this impact in mind as we continue our discussion. You may have heard of the butterfly effect, right? A small movement can lead to a great miracle. The term literally means that the fluttering of a butterfly's wings can cause changes in the weather.

The butterfly effect refers to the idea that small changes or minor events can lead to significant and unforeseen consequences later on. This means that our careless actions can worsen environmental issues, while our small habits aimed at making a change can also help prevent environmental destruction. The concept of the butterfly effect was first introduced by an American meteorologist named Lorenz. He suggested that the flapping of a butterfly's wings in Brazil could eventually influence and amplify effects that lead to a tornado occurring in Texas. Although the actual likelihood of this happening is quite slim, it is nonetheless something that can be observed in weather patterns, where minor changes at the outset can lead to substantial outcomes.

In the beginning, there is a theory that minor changes can have a significant overall impact. When observing this phenomenon, there is a great deal of uncertainty. This is why weather forecasting is so challenging. Of course, Lorenz's work also laid the foundation for the chaos theory in physics. This is the story of the positive influence that started in a real pasta restaurant located in Seongsu-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul. We can see how this positive influence is confirmed by the stickers that are attached. I found this information on Korea Net News, so let's take a look together. 

At the end of July, there was a story from 1919. The representative of a pasta specialty restaurant located in Sangsu-dong, Mapo-gu, Seoul, received a letter from the First Lady, the President's wife, acknowledging the positive influence of Real Pasta. On June 26th, we started announcing through social media that we would provide free meals to underprivileged children visiting our store. Having experienced a difficult twenties, where I often walked because I didn't have bus fare, I wanted to ensure that children could have hearty meals, which is why I initiated this project. Although I planned this project in February 2019, it took five months to execute. I was also concerned that the term food-insecure might hurt the children. Additionally, this person had already been providing free meals to firefighters for a year and a half and had been secretly engaging in good deeds, such as upgrading the blood donation menu. This moment marked the beginning of a movement to help children in need, under the name of positive influence, alongside this shared empathy. Self-employed individuals in various industries have come together to help support children in need. Restaurants, beauty salons, academies, and performance venues have started to provide diverse benefits tailored to the circumstances and environments that young people require. The participating establishments have placed stickers with the Good Influence logo at their entrances, allowing children and teenagers to use their services comfortably. Children can simply present the Dream Tree Card, a meal support card for underprivileged children, to access services at these venues. 

According to CEO Lee In-tae, this initiative has led to unexpected developments over the past three weeks. There have been constant inquiries from across the country expressing a desire to join in on the good influence. Additionally, customers visiting these establishments have secretly left cash at the counter after finishing their meals, and some have even set up donation boxes for anonymous contributions of necessary items for children.

There have been many instances where items have been sent to restaurants, with various necessities like stationery, shoes, and women's products being sent from all over the country. However, there was no place for these items. He mentioned that this change, which has been happening for a month, is a result of the efforts of each individual. He shared his own story about growing up in the countryside, receiving help from older friends and siblings. However, as families become smaller, it seems difficult for children to have such experiences. The opportunity to adopt has influenced many people, leading them to adopt additional stray dogs, such as Mocha and Guanhwa. Now, instead of sending these dogs abroad for adoption, there has been a growing movement to care for the stray dogs that were abandoned and faced euthanasia. I'm not trying to promote a particular celebrity, but rather to highlight how one person's awakened consciousness can have a positive impact on various corners of our society. Speaking of stray dogs, recently, Chef Lee Yeon-bok, who you all know well, rescued a stray dog that had been abandoned in a sewer. He saved this puppy just before it was due for euthanasia and adopted it, naming it after his children's birthdays.

I received a very fresh shock and there were instances where I prevented pets from being abandoned or euthanized. You all remember the positive influences that emerged during COVID-19, right? Three years ago, when the pandemic broke out, nurses tirelessly ran around to save as many patients as possible under such difficult conditions. Just look at how hard it was for them, with band-aids on their faces, yet still smiling amidst the busyness and challenges.

The sight of those who do not lose their smiles, even in the midst of difficulties, likely resonates in the hearts of many, not just mine. Their positive influence continues to touch our hearts deeply. This is a photo from the same period, showing medical staff helping each other with protective gear, looking at one another and encouraging each other. It made me realize once again that they are the guardians of our society. This photo has likely made many people cry. How exhausted must they have been to endure such fatigue in a corner, sneaking in brief moments of rest when no one was watching? Seeing them doze off like that was truly heartbreaking, and it expanded the shared understanding that we all hope for the end of COVID-19 soon, while also reminding us that we need to express our gratitude to the medical staff.

This photo is also very important because it broadened our understanding. Even now, looking at this photo, it brings a lump to my throat. You all remember the images of the Korean Red Cross delivering supplies and gifts to those struggling with COVID-19 across the country. It was remarkable how they provided items to those in need, even when they themselves were facing difficulties. They made sure to deliver to those who needed it the most, including patients who couldn’t even eat. This national effort, represented in the photos of those individuals and their sacrifices, awakened our entire society to the need for solidarity. We realized that we must share and support each other to overcome crises. We are one, and these photos remind us of that.

There may be better photos, but this is the one I have. So, everyone, this is about reading books to children who can't go outside due to COVID-19. It was a precious initiative. I think there was something similar in our country as well. I haven't read The Great Apartment yet, but it was a volunteer service where people read books to children who were stuck at home feeling frustrated. I brought a copy of that book along with me.
