If you're looking to start your first Etsy shop with print on demand today, I'm going over an in-depth tutorial and series on this channel on how to start your Etsy business, integrate it to a print on demand provider. My personal favorite is Printify, so today we are doing a Printify and Etsy integration. This is part one of the series. Part two is going to be released in the upcoming weeks, and part three of the series is already released, so you can check out that video after this one. Today, we're just talking about how to start up your Etsy shop. I know for a lot of students, subscribers, and clients I've worked with in the past, their number one biggest problem in starting is not taking that first step and that first leap into starting their own businesses. For those who don't know, my name is Heather. I'm a top 1% Etsy seller with my

print on demand business, and during my time with print on demand, I have helped hundreds of clients, students, subscribers, and followers grow and scale their own businesses to five and six figures. I've had plenty of students who have quit their full-time jobs or just made an additional income stream that has been able to allow them to pay off debt. Without further ado, we're going to hop onto my laptop, we're going to open up our first Etsy shop together, and I'm going to talk you through all that we are doing today. Now that we're on my laptop, let's talk about the two scenarios that you may have because if you're selling on Etsy, there is a chance that you already have an account with Etsy. Maybe you purchased in the past, and if you're signed into Etsy, you can add in a shop and start selling on Etsy. That is one way to go about it. So first of all, do you want to connect your personal account and your purchases?

on that Etsy account to your business account. If you do not want to do that, then I would create a new email for your business. Once you have that new email, you can go back to Etsy, you can register a new account, and then you will have to verify that account, and then you can start selling on Etsy. That is your second option. So first of all, I'm just going to [Music] create. So now that I created my new account, because again, for me, what I would recommend to people is to always separate your personal from your business. With that being said, now that I am logged into this new account, I am going to click on Sell on Etsy here. So as you can see, the next page is Millions of Shoppers Can't Wait to See What You Have in Store. Now I will say that this page kind of changes every now and then. This may look slightly different, but the prompts that you will see generally do not change over time. So I'm going to click on Get Started, and then it will

come to this next page, and I will click on let's do this. Now you can fill out whatever makes sense for you underneath the what brings you to Etsy. I know that Etsy does send different emails that are catered towards your experience level as well when you start selling on Etsy. So if you're a first-time seller, I would click this first option here, which is I'm just starting to sell for the first time ever. For me, I am just going to put I want to expand my online business by selling on Etsy, even though I already have multiple Etsy shops. If you guys haven't seen on my channel, I have test Etsy shops that I do a lot of my YouTube tutorials on. And for the purpose of being on Etsy, I have created multiple Etsy accounts just to show an updated tutorial every year. So if you ever see a test shop, that is why. And if you see there's no listings under those shops, that's why as well. My initial shops and the shops that I currently have that are very profitable.

and doing high numbers of revenue. I do not share on my YouTube channel. I've had a lot of issues with people on YouTube and subscribers finding my real Etsy shops, and they have copied basically everything in those shops to the point that it has completely squashed my revenue and the profit that initially led me to quit my 9 to 5. That's why basically I don't share my shop. Okay, so the next prompt Etsy will ask is, Is there anything you'd like help with? Again, this ties into their email marketing. So, if you want any additional marketing emails from Etsy, you can click on any of these so that you can get some additional help from them. So, I'm just going to click on marketing to new audiences here and click next. And then now it says, Now time for the fun part. So, this is where we're going to start our shop. First of all, you will fill in your shop language, your shop country, and shop currency. Now, I'm going to save and continue because everything is pretty much preset for me. That is correct. The

next part is naming your shop. Now, I know this is the part where a lot of people stop at and they say, You know what, I'm not ready for this. I don't know how to name my shop. I want to, first of all, tell you, you have three times that you can change your shop name. So, whatever you put in here is not by any means concrete. And I really do encourage figuring out a name during this video and during this walkthrough process so that you don't have any barriers keeping you from starting. And if the shop name is the reason why you're not starting today, then I would just go on Google and search up random name generator. So, I'm going to show that [Music]. So, I'm just going to pull up this name li. I have no association to them, but it's free. It looks so maybe I'll do Heather, and then we're going to generate and see what it makes. So, maybe we'll do like brandable name. That's kind of cool. We can do compound words, alternative

spelling. I'll just do brandable names. I think that's kind of cool to do. I'll do medium next, and then a short one-sentence description of your business: Ecommerce gift shop. Then I'm going to generate here, so we'll see what it creates. This is kind of cool. Like, I've used this website before in a while, while back, so this is kind of cool that it creates all these weather X. I like how I put Heather in there, and Heatherway, Heather Shop, Happy Heather. That's actually a cool name. That's a cool name. I'm happy with that. Heather, Heather brand. Oh my goodness, this is going to be funny. So for the business name generator, Heather is really funny, but it is shorter of a name. A lot of the times, a lot of Etsy shops have already taken most of the names on Etsy. So even if, let's say, that your business is registered in your county and in your state as this brand name, that does not mean that you can use that name on Etsy. But I will say that we can take some of

these ideas and add this to our name. So even if I went to the name your shop area before, I would do that though. I would go to uspto.gov. uspto.gov is a free resource provided by the US government that allows us to trademark research and see if this name is already taken. This is really important, especially before you establish your brand on Etsy. So this is what I'm going to do first. I'm going to go to basic word Mark search, and even if I use the word Heather, I'm going to put in just live, and then I'm going to put in the exact search phrase, and then I'm going to submit query. And as we could see on the screen, no te s records were found. So that's good news for me. So I could use Heather. There are just so many ways you could create a shop name, but I'm just going to use what I think is really unique. So I'm going to type in Heather, which is already taken. So Heather Creations, Heather Finds, Heather Studio. I like Heather Studio, so I'm going to use

this is hilarious. I love this. Welcome to my channel. If you haven't been here already, I am silly. Don't let my business side fool you. I am a really silly person outside of YouTube and inside of YouTube. We try to have fun on this channel, even though it's very business serious and related. But basically, I think HEA Studio is great. I'm taking that name if it's offered. So, the next portion of this video is creating our first listing. Now, I know this is the part of the tutorial where it's like, Whoo, we're going from a shop name to our first listing. What do we do? This is going to stop me entirely from starting my new shop. So, here's what we're doing in this part of the video. We are creating a basically fake listing that we're going to upload as our first listing. And what I personally like to do is I like to sell a digital file as my first listing. I think digital is the best listing to create first because we're going to end up deleting this once

We get our first listing up with Printify. So, first of all, what I would suggest doing is having an SVG file to put in as your first listing. Now, you can get my free print and crash course down below. There is a video that shows this process on how to upload the first fake listing, and underneath that video, you will have the SVG file to download. You can also download it simply by clicking the link in the description to get that email to you after this if you would like that as well. But basically, I am going to create an SVG real quick with the tool K. Here, I'm just going to do a 5,000 by 5,000, and I'm going to add in a headline here. So, the reason why I like doing SVGs just as a digital product is, first of all, it usually does not flag the Etsy algorithm that this is an inaccurate product. This basically will go through the Etsy algorithm and not cause you troubles as you go forward. So, I'm going to download this design for this design. I'm going to

download as a JPG and a SVG just so we add the file to the listing and then also we have a placeholder photo card. So first of all, the jpg is going to go as the photo. Now we have the photo card uploaded. We're going to scroll down a little bit and I'm going to put custom SVG file and then it's going to ask who made it. I'll put I did. What is it? A supplier tool to make things? 'Cause that's what svgs generally are for a lot of sellers. So I'm going to put made to order since we're putting custom. Then I'm going to put SVG and then we can click any of these that are SVG and digital clip art image files. Either applies for this reason. And then I'm going to scroll down a little bit more and skip some things here unless Etsy asks me to add it in later. So I'm going to click this to manual because we are going to delete this listing later. I am also going to change the type to digital here. After that, we're going to add in

our price. I'm going to make this maybe $10 or $1, whatever you would like. Here, the thing is, if you price this way too low, you may accidentally have a customer purchase this. It's probably not likely someone's going to purchase right out of the gate, but if they do, I like to make this a little bit higher so it makes sense. With that being said, now we have in the digital file area, since we selected made to order above, we'll create the files after purchase, so we don't have to upload anything. And that's kind of the part of the reason why I put made to order. If you wanted to do instead of made to order, we can make it, we made it recently, and then we have to upload the file, which is that SVG we just downloaded. So you can do one of two things. I'm just going to show both ways, whatever makes the most sense for your shop. And then besides that, we're going to save. Oh, actually, I'm going to go up and I'm going to fix one more thing here.

so I am going to fill in the description, and I'm just going to add that in for now. I will put that maybe card making and stationary, and then now it should save and go to the next part where we have our first listing uploaded to our shop. So now it will prompt to ask if you want to add more listings. We are going to do this later because we're going to integrate our Printify account and go from there. After this, you may see a banner at the top about resending and verifying your email. This is when you'll want to do that as well in this process. So Etsy operates off of connecting your account to a system called Playd. This is where you usually have to connect your bank account, and it accepts most major bank accounts. So this is usually the part where some people get stumped with, other people it's a breeze for them because they already have their accounts attached. Now this is a part of the video I will not be showing just for my own personal information being on here, but

you will go through how you'll get paid. You'll set up billing and then at shop security. What I do recommend is having two-factor authentication on your shop as well. This is really important and really critical for you to have just in case you could ever have your account compromised. It's just something I really suggest to anyone to at least have an authenticator app or text messaging. So without further ado, the next thing we're going to do is we're going to go to Printify and we are going to set up our account with Printify. I am just going to sign into my Google account and I will see you guys on the next page here once we're registered. So as you're signing up with Printify and registering, it's going to ask you a few prompts. Again, this is how Printify can better assist you as a new business owner. So you may get newsletters catered to you, so please do fill out these prompts with what makes sense for you. For me, I am going to

basically fill it out the way I already know from my own experiences. Again, it's going to be a little bit different for anyone watching, especially if you're a new shop owner. So, your main objective for me, I'm just going to put grow my current business. What brings you to Printify? Better prices and profit margin. Obviously, I do want to say that Printify does have the lowest production fees I have personally seen per all of the print-on-demand companies I've used in the past. They also do offer 30 days free Printify premium by using the code in the description and the link in the description below. The next few questions again, what are your current monthly sales? I'm just going to answer as if I am a new shop owner, 0 to 800. How do you currently fulfill your custom printed products in merchandise? And then again, if you're new, I don't yet. I'm just getting started. How did you find out about Printify? If you would like to shout me out here, that would be really

nice if you put YouTube and Heather studio. So now it's going to say thank you for your time. What would you like to do now? So what I'm going to do is we're going to first of all start with connecting our store. That is number one importance for this video to get us started. So we're going to hit connect here. We're going to click on Etsy. And then as we get in, it's going to say an application would like to connect your account. And this is giving Printify access to your orders. This is how when an order comes through, your customer places that order. That order is going to be streamlined to Printify integration system. And Printify will pick up that order. They will print, pack, and ship as soon as you push through that order. So basically, we are going to grant access here, and they will give us a go-ahead for our new business. So we have a congrats, you are connected to an Etsy store. And check out this article on how to start selling. So this is a really

great article to start, and that is basically how you can start that. Now, I do want to say in this video there is a Printify boot camp down below. So now that we are in Printify, what we are going to do and what's most important to starting our shop is, first of all, we're going to go to Store settings, and we're going to fill out all these areas together. After this, I want you to join me in the next video in this playlist, which is how to A to Z list your first listing on Etsy through Printify. After you list that listing, you want to delete that custom SVG listing we uploaded earlier because, again, this isn't a print-on-demand listing. You can take custom SVG requests if you would like, but honestly, I would just throw away that listing, delete it. Every listing is 20 Cs, and that's basically the investment you're taking when you start with this PFY account, so that's just something to note as well. But we're going to continue here, we're going to get all of these shop areas filled out, and then we can move on to listing your first listing in the next video here. The first thing we're going

to do. We have our name filled out at this point, so I'm going to put Heather Studio. We have that. I'm going to save it. And how cool! I didn't know that after you sign in, there's webinars. And my webinar here is actually in the top. This is so cool. Thanks, Printify, for doing that on your website. Like, it's just so cool because I used Printify prior to ever being on YouTube. I'm just so lucky to have been partnered with a company from my Etsy beginnings to now where I'm on YouTube. Just a shout-out to Printify in this video because that's just so cool. So, when we're starting our print business, we want to go through this checklist. So, first of all, you do want to create your first product. Again, watch that video that you're going to see pop up on the screen above. Just add it to your tab here after we go through our settings. So, I'm going to go back to Store settings. After creating our name, the next part we need to address is the

ship from address. So, when we're looking at addresses, you have two options, which is Printify default, which goes to your print-on-demand warehouse and print provider. What I recommend is in this area, I would put custom dress and add in your own address. If you don't want any product shipped to you or you just want to have privacy as far as your business goes, you can choose Printify default. But just know that if a return happens and the customer doesn't even ask you, Printify will usually ask if you want this reshipped to you, so that's usually at a fee. There are pros of getting items shipped to your home. You can use those products that are returned to you as images for your photo cards on listing. You can also just take pictures for social media. You can market with those products. Now, since we've talked about this, you have three areas to fill in here. One is US address, the other one is United Kingdom, the other one after that is from Germany. These are only if you live in these countries. If you only sell

to us domestic only. Let's say you're in the United Kingdom, domestic only. Then I would just keep as Printify default because this really won't apply to you anyways. But personally, what I do since I live in the US, I'm put in my custom address below. And then for the other two, I'm going to keep at Printify default. Now after saying all that, we're going to go to preferences. So underneath preferences, this is when we're talking about order routing. I'm also going to take a break in filming here. I'm going to resituate because sitting on my floor for this video was probably the worst idea I could have had in doing filming today. So we're going to get our life together in a moment. Okay guys, sorry for the slight scenery change. My back was hurting and I needed a backrest. I don't know why I was sitting on the floor like I was, but everything is good now. So when we go to preferences, I wanted to talk about order routing and what settings you should

have under the preferences area dependent on what makes sense for your business. How often you're going to check into your business, etc. So, first of all, order routing. What is it? What does it do for your business? Now, one of the many perks of PR ify is they have order routing that is available and very unique to this print-on-demand company. Now, what order routing is, let's say that Bell and Canvas 3001 in color white in size small goes out of stock for a listing that your customer ordered. Instead of saying, Oops, sorry, we're out of stock. You're going to have to refund the customer, what can happen is instead of, let's say, you use Monster Digital, which is a really reliable print provider. They're usually never out of stock of things, but let's say they went out of stock. Then another print provider, let's say Swift Pod, comes in. They have the small white Bell and Canvas 31. So, Swift Pod can print, pack, and ship instead of Monster Digital. Now, hopefully, this provides some insight on what order

routing is now. If you want to enable order routing, there are two ways to go about it. One way is manually fixing that order and fulfilling that order, or you can set it for that it's automated on your back end of Printify, which is by clicking enable order routing. When we enable order routing, we want to make sure the setup is correct and meets your comfortability as a new ATM print-on-demand shop owner. So, by comfortability, I mean as far as how much you're willing to pay for a price difference in production costs, because not every print provider charges the same, and that's something to factor in when you're setting up order routing for the automated process. For me, my comfortability is about $5 extra. I'm willing to pay so that that order still gets fulfilled by my print-on-demand company without me having to lift a finger in the process. It could be different for you. I personally price all of my products that I get well over a $5 profit per listing that I sell and per

order that I get so for me. I'm comfortable with five, but for you, it might be closer to two or even $1, and you can input that here. But this is something that you do need to check on on a regular basis because if you set it too low, then the automated order routing system might not trigger because, again, the other production fees might be higher than over a $2 difference. So, no matter what you do, still have to check into your orders on Printify backend. This does not erase your responsibility to check in on those orders. If you want to make this more automated or if you just have a busy schedule, that's when I recommend turning this order routing feature on. Right now, I like to just do it manually. That's me just being an experienced seller on the platform. But for new business owners, this might be something you might want to do when you start off. I would not necessarily recommend it. It might be better for you to learn how to manually do it at first, and then over time, you could set it on.

enable order routing in extreme scenarios. The next portion that we want to fill out is order approval. Now, what I will say first off, I always do automatically in one hour. I have a no cancellation policy on my Etsy Shop. Let's say you offer a cancellation within the first hour. You may want to switch this to manual because what can happen is if you get an order and then the customer emails you within the hour, maybe you don't see their message, maybe you're at work, and after work, you see the message way too late. Printify will automatically start the process of printing and packing and shipping your product. So, you may come across the time that you don't catch the order in time, and then you end up having to pay and refund the customer. So, do not have this feature on unless you can actually cancel orders within the hour for your business. So, I did want to note that. Also, I do want to mention in this video, if you're looking to set up your Etsy Shop policies and everything with me, please

In this video, I'm only going over Printify and what you need to know to get that first listing up and delete that fake listing we made earlier. Another option that you can do is doing automatic order approval within 24 hours or set a time, maybe after work. You know, you get off of work at 4:00 p.m. every day, and instead, you set it to automatically push through those orders at 6:00 p.m. every day. So, when you get home, you can look over your messages for the day on Etsy, make sure no one asked for cancellation, and then you can push over everything as well. So, there's many ways you can order approve, and that's completely up to how comfortable you are with the time that you have during the day to push through orders. The next thing that you have an option for is tracking notification settings. Now, for me, just as a seller who has high volumes

of orders every single day. I choose don't need tracking emails, but if you're a newer seller and you want to keep your customer informed, what can increase your amount of higher reviews can be just having tracking notifications getting sent to you. And then as soon as you get those notification settings, you can email your customer and give them updates on their item and just say, Hey, we shipped out your order today, and send them the tracking information. That is always a way to get higher reviews when you first start off. Personally, I don't do that. I didn't do it in my first two shops. So, there is also the option for to automatically send delayed orders to production. For me, I like to do send orders to production manually. One of the reasons why I do this is because I take custom and bulk orders. So, if I have an order that's standing still, sometimes I'm back and forth with a customer over a custom or personalized product that I'm going to send to them. And if, let's say, I had send orders to production automatically, any listing that's on hold.

for a few days, Printify can push through, so that's just something to consider as you go forward. And then, email preferences at the bottom is if you have and you want email updates from Printify, you can click this on. I personally turn off the status emails because, again, I get high volumes of orders. And not to say it's a bad thing, I feel like I don't want to come off complaining here, but sometimes it can become too much, and I like to keep my email inbox as small as possible, so I turn this off personally. And then, at the end of this, don't forget to save the next few settings we have. Again, I have tutorials in the print-on-demand crash course that is completely free. I also go over how to pay yourself as a new print-on-demand business owner, how much you should realistically save as a new business owner, and just a lot of other things that I can't really touch on in this video today. And with that being said, the other parts that you can fill out is branding and gift messages again.
