I moved from middle school, and I'd like to get to know you all better. So, I thought a great way to do that and assess your English skills would be with... a spelling bee. Spelling bee? Oh, no, no, no. It's high school. N-O Spell That? Now, I know what you all are thinking. You're too old for this. But the winner of the spelling bee will get a trophy and special recognition at the school assembly. That's going to be me. Well, Zoe, I admire your confidence. But the winner of the spelling bee is going to be up to a vote from the rest of the class. Well, then you might as well not ask Katie because she's not so good at speaking in front of other people.

Is that right, Katie? No, I can do it. So class, without further ado, let's take out our English books and turn to page 46 and study the list of vocabulary words before we get started. [Narrator] Zoe teases Katie [Narrator] because she is too shy [Narrator] to participate in class. OK, class, now that we've had a chance to study, who would like to be first? Oh, me, me. OK, Stephanie, you'll be first. Stephanie, your word is cataclysmic. I mean, you spelled it correctly, but you took longer than 15 seconds, which is way too long. OK, now it's Katie's turn. Do I have to do it? Oh, yeah. Don't make Frady Katie go up. You can do it. The only way to get over your fear of public speaking is just to get up and do it. OK.

OK, Katie. Your word is antagonistic. OK, Katie. Very good. You spelled it correctly, but I should have mentioned you need to spell it out loud, but I didn't mention that in the rules, so I'll let it go this time. Oh, what? Zoey, you talk a good game. Now it's your turn. You've seen the rest. Now prepare for the best. And your word is cappuccino. Oh, that's so easy, I get one of those every single morning. That is correct. All right class, that was a fun game, huh? I hope you liked it as much as I did. I had the results of your spelling bee. Let's see which finalists will be recognized in front of the whole school. Our first of four finalists is Stephanie! Our second finalist is... Cody. And the third of four finalists is... Zoe. That's right. It's me. And our fourth and final finalist is...

Katie! Nice. Now, Katie, I let you through on a technicality, but remember, when we do it in front of the whole school, you have to spell your answer out loud. Here this year. Well, look who it is, Frady Katie. What is she doing studying for the spelling bee? She won't even be able to get on stage. Are you sure you want to do that in front of the whole school? I'm afraid you'll have a panic attack. Do you need a dictionary? Maybe that would help. OK, let's try one at random. Xylophone. Yes. Now let's do it with an audience. OK, Mr. Oinky, I need you to sit there and I am going to spell the word for you. Enigmatic [Narrator] Katie is determined to conquer her fears. [Narrator] But will she be brave enough to compete [Narrator] in front of the whole school?

First up, we have Zoe. Zoe, your word today is. Next up, we have Stephanie. Hi. Your word is. Now we have Cody. Your word is. Can I get a definition? Next up is Katie. Everyone, give us a moment. Katie, what's wrong? I, I just can't do this. There's nothing to worry about, OK? They're all your schoolmates, your friends. You don't understand all those people out there. And I'm supposed to talk? Well, actually, I do understand because I've been in your shoes. But you're so confident and liked around the school. You don't have any shyness. Well, when I was a young man, younger than you, the same thing happened to me. Herbie, what's wrong? I can't do this. I want to pass English, but all those people. Look, I understand it happens to a lot of people. The only person it's happening

to right now is me. You know what? A very wise person once told me something that helped me break out of my shyness. You were shy? No way. When you're feeling shy, don't keep it to yourself. After all, everyone wants to know what's on your mind. That completely makes sense. You're right! The world is yours. Now go show them the real Herbie. Here I come! So remember. When you're shy.
