[Music] Hi, everyone. It's Amber from The Sensible Mama. If you've been following me for a while on Instagram or on Facebook, you know that I've been on a little bit of a productivity journey. I recently purchased an iPad Pro for my business, and I decided if I was going to spend all that money on a single item, I really needed to master it and figure out how to consolidate as much as I could into that iPad so that I was getting the most out of it for the money that I spent. That started with me ditching my paper planner and switching fully to digital planning inside of the iPad Pro, which is going to be a completely separate video that I'll get into another time. The next thing that I did was to begin researching all of the great apps for the iPad that would help me to consolidate my life a little bit and keep everything tidy, dawei, and organized inside of the iPad. One of the first things that I tackled in sort of my productivity journey was mastering my

weekly cooking situation. If I was gonna find an app that was going to help me keep all my recipes in place, I also wanted it to be able to do a couple of other things. And I had this vision in my head of what that app would look like. So here's what I knew that I needed: I needed to be able to input my own recipes, which are either inside my mind or inside of my favorite cookbooks. Before I got rid of them, I wanted to download recipes online without getting rid of all of the Bloggie fluff that's always at the beginning, as well as all of the ads and hyperlinks that get in your way. I wanted it to help me plan my dinners for the week because I need a plan. Otherwise, I will go to the grocery store and just buy everything that looks like something I might use. And then all the produce goes to waste, and we end up with 17 bags of flour in my pantry. So I needed some help with that. I was really dreaming of something that

would actually allow me to import the ingredients from all of my recipes into my grocery shopping list. Which I'm also doing digitally. I didn't think that existed, but I wanted to find out if there was something that did. And lastly, I wanted it to be able to be multi-platform, multi-device, meaning that whether I was on my desktop computer or on my iPad, my phone, I can access all of my recipes and my shopping list so that while I'm on the go, perhaps at the grocery store, and I have my phone, I can just really quickly pull up my grocery list and start shopping from that list. I actually did find an app that can do all of those things, and it's called Paprika. So today, what I'm gonna do is walk you through the app and show you all of the amazing features that it has. I should note this video is not sponsored in any way. I just love this app. I've been showing it to you on Facebook and on Instagram. I figured now would be a great time to show you how.

I'm using it. I'm still learning the app, so there are a few things that I haven't fully fleshed out in my own login of paprika, but I'm gonna show you those features anyway, and hopefully by the end of this, you will be convinced as I was that this is the best app for recipes and cooking and meal planning. All right, so let's just go ahead and jump right in. I've moved to paprika over to a blank page just so that you don't see everything that's on my tablet, but usually I put this on my main page so I can get to it really quickly. I also like to keep it in my dock so that I can get to it really quickly. So we're gonna go over everything that's in this far left-hand menu because that's basically home base. I'm gonna do a quick overview of it all and then unpack each one. So the first thing in your main menu is your recipes list, which of course this is where you keep your recipes. It's really cool because you can keep

everything in here and keep it nicely organized. Now, if you've just downloaded Paprika and you're looking for these folders here, these do not come on the app. These are ones that I've created myself. One of my favorite things is adding my sides over here. Usually, I have a pretty good idea of what I want to cook as the main dish, but I often find myself stumped on what I want to do as a side dish. So that's why I have all of these categorized here. You can do a couple of other really cool things like organized by top-rated. You can also favorite some of your recipes. So if you have some that are your favorites that you're going to a lot, you can get to those from the favorites menu. It's just basically a way once you have this thing really, really full to be able to find stuff that you're looking for really quickly. You also have a search bar up here as well. So if you have a ton of recipes, you can search within all of

these folders to find the exact thing that you're looking for. Over here is the browser, and this is actually my favorite thing about this app because you can do so much with it. If you really don't know where to start, you're just using this for the first time, trying to get into meal planning and cooking for the first time, they have aggregated a whole bunch of kind of the top apps online. So if say you're just sitting in bed, you're trying to do your meal planning and you don't really have much inspiration, you can click on any of these websites, and that will just go ahead and pull up a whole bunch of recipes for you. So at night, this is what I like to do sometimes, is sit down, look for recipes that I like, and consider adding those to my recipe list. Now I'm going to get into this a little bit more later, but it's important to note, you see this one's actually really short, which I appreciate, but a lot of times when you look at recipes online, you get like this

big blocky fluffy thing at the top, and you have to scroll forever to get to the actual recipe, which can be pretty frustrating for me. Sometimes there's also ad placements that pop in, and this app just has the coolest way to get around that. So when we get back here, just remember this. I'm going to show you how paprika accounts for that in a second. Next, you have your grocery list, which is pretty self-explanatory. It's just where your shopping list goes. What I personally like about this is you can do multiple lists. So right now I just have one, but let's say I know there are certain things that I shop for at Publix and other things that I know I can only get at Whole Foods. I could actually create a Whole Foods grocery list here and save it. And now I can actually say, Alright, here's just the things that I need at Whole Foods versus the things that I need just in my grocery list for Publix and things like that. Next is pantry. I haven't used this a

whole lot, but it's a pretty cool concept. It's basically a way for you to keep track of what you have in your pantry and your fridge so that when you're making your recipes, you can know what you already have. This is your meals tab. This is really cool because you can plan out all of your meals for the week right here. You can see a day view, which is basically this. What is what I'm cooking tonight. I can open this up in the morning and know what I need to thaw out for dinner. I can see the week more broadly. I like being able to do this because if someone in my household is telling me they have a certain event at a certain time in the evening, I can kind of plan out a meal that I know is going to be quick to cook so they can get to their. And you can also see the month view, which is really helpful if you have a family who complains when you cook things too often. This actually shows you exactly everything you've cooked within

this month. So, you know how often you've done it. Then you have your Settings tab, which is really cool. You have a cloud sync, which allows you to be able to sync across devices, which means you can put this on your tablet, on your phone, on your desktop, whatever else. And then you have just a few other aesthetic things that you can change around: your font size, how things are categorized. You can choose which day you want the week to start, whether Sunday or Monday. Just a whole bunch of really cool things you can do in here. So, this is gonna be the last I showed this tab because it's not as relevant, but just know there's a lot of things you can do here. You can also close that menu that I was just in by clicking this button right here, which is pretty nice if you want to see a bigger picture here of what you're doing. You can just close that and then you can just see the menu that you're currently in as well as what is inside of that page. So, let's go ahead and unpack all of

these categories because there's just so many cool features within each one. So going back to my recipes, I can add categories whenever I want to. So if I wanted to add like maybe a category for under 30 minutes, I can. Say if I want that inside of a folder that I already have, or if I want it inside of a new folder. I'm gonna save that. Now I have a folder where I can put any of my recipes that take me 30 minutes or less to cook. You can add recipes by clicking the plus button up here at the top. You can name it. So this is for a case where you have maybe you're moving over a recipe from a cookbook, or you have a family recipe that you want to add. You can name it here under the name tab. You can add photos, which is really my favorite thing about it. You can just snap a picture of the meal once you've created it and add it in here, and it just makes paprika overall have a prettier user experience. You can rate it. You can provide info.

about it, such as servings, the difficulty, all of that stuff, which does help this be more searchable. And then you can categorize it, add your ingredients, directions, notes, nutrition, anything that you want. So any of this like metadata that you put in here is gonna help you search it better over here in your folder classification system. But you don't have to do all that. If you want to, you can literally just put in the ingredients and the directions, and you're all done. As an example, I'm pretty sure I have... Yeah, so I've created a Taco Tuesday recipe in here. It's literally just got a picture that I found online. It has no directions because I know what to do. I do have my ingredients that I need for it, so I just need to buy the taco kit from like Publix, the ground beef, lettuce, sour cream, and shredded cheese. And the reason why I did this, you might be thinking like obviously, you know you need those things, why do you need a recipe for this? It's because as I'll show you later when I'm setting up my

weekly meal plan. I want to be able to import these ingredients here into my grocery list, and if I don't have them listed inside of a recipe, I can't do that. So I'm going to show you that in a minute, but that's why those are there. Most of these are actually recipes that I got off of the internet. So the next thing I want to do is show you the browser tab and how I use it. So here we are back at the browser tab. You can do a couple of things here. If you know what you're looking for, like I'm looking for a great lasagna recipe, I can go here and type in lasagna and search, and it's going to immediately just pull up a whole bunch of lasagna recipes from the web. So let's just say I like the looks of this picture. I can click on this. I am inside of a real internet browser, but it is being hosted natively inside of paprika, which is really cool. So as you can see here, I've got some stuff that I

don't really want to be seeing when I'm cooking my meal. I don't want to watch this video. I don't need to see all these photos. I don't want these ads. So, check this out. I can go down here to the download button and look what it does. You'll see this in full screen in a minute, but it immediately just pulls out the pertinent information, okay? So, I have got world's best lasagna. I can change this if I want, like say I just want it to say lasagna, don't need the catchy name. It imported the picture for me. While I'm in here, I can categorize this. So, let's put this under beef. And now I can save it, and it's only gonna save this stuff. All this stuff is gonna be gone in a second, and I'll show you. So, let me Nate. I think I already have lasagna in my thing. So, let's just say lasagna test, so that we'll know where to find it, okay? So, I can go back to my recipes now, and here it is.

lasagna test look at that you remember what this looked like on the web right it was a hot hot mess and now I have this beautiful page to look at that is so simple and so easy and it's just perfect. I don't know about you guys but sometimes I have a lot of things going at once where I kind of need timers for lots of different things. I need a 5-minute timer for the broccoli and I need a 12-minute timer for the water that's boiling and it's kind of hard. You run out of devices to have multiple timers going on so check this out. This has cooked for 4 to 5 minutes until the onions are translucent. I can click this blue hyperlink and start a timer so now my tablet has a timer going. You can see it right here this says timer number one and how much time is left. Now I also need to brown the ground beef for five minutes you can click that click start and now I can see that I have two timers on two of them.

are going down here, and I can click this, and I can see how much is left on each of my timers. I can add my own timer if I want to, so if I have something else that I'm cooking that's not in this menu, I can add it here manually, and I can just basically get all of my timers going right here, and I'll get a notification. Another thing that's cool from this menu is the pin button, so I can hit the pin and pin this recipe. Let's say just pop into my meals really quickly on the night that was making less lasagna. I was also making roasted garlic, excuse me, roasted broccoli with garlic, so I can see down here I've got my lasagna recipe pin. I'm gonna go ahead and pin this one too. Now I have two pinned recipes, which is really helpful because if you don't do this, you do have to keep kind of like hopping over here to meals, going back, getting to lasagna. Ok, I need to stop here, I need to get

back to my broccoli. Where was it? And you keep doing that. What can get confusing when you've got multiple things being timed. You've got multiple stuff cooking. It's just as complicated. So now when this is over here in my PIN folder, I can just really easily go back and forth between these two things that I'm preparing, which is a really big deal, especially when you have a lot of things cooking at once. Okay, so going back to my browser tab, the other thing that I can do from here is like I showed you earlier. If I'm not searching for something specific, I just want to go into one of these websites and look around, I can do that as well. So I can maybe I like the idea of this grilled salmon recipe, and if I like this one, I can download it. Same as before, it's just this way we got to it from the actual list of websites versus doing a search. And again, I can just add this right to my recipes. Now, next we need to talk about groceries, but

in order to do that, I want to pop back up really quickly to recipes. So let's say I've just been in my browser. I have found this lasagna recipe that I like that we named test. I know that I'm gonna need all of these ingredients. I can do something really cool, check this out. One, I can go ahead and add this to my meal plan from this page. If I want to just go ahead and add this to a date, I can add it in. I'm gonna do it for dinner. And now I've got that meal saved for next Monday. Well, if I'm gonna cook that next Monday, I'm gonna need to buy all the ingredients for it. There's my timer, lasagna. How's the timer going off? So now I can just go into this little icon that looks like a cart, and I get to choose which ingredients I want to add to my grocery list. So I can just scan through here. If there's things that I know I already have, like for example, I know that I have white sugar, so I'm just

gonna take that off. I don't need that. Add it to my grocery list. I can just click Add and now it's in my groceries. So I can come over here and basically as I'm building out my weekly meal plan, which we'll get to in two steps, I'm just constantly adding my ingredients here. When I'm all done, I will go through and clean it up a little bit. For example, if I've got things that are in here that I didn't realize that I already had, I can obviously go delete those things by deleting them here. So it's building out my recipes as I go. When it's time to go to the grocery store, I can get on my phone. What other timers done, I can get on my phone, go to my groceries list, and now I have my entire list of groceries that I need for the week. And as I shop, I can just click them off. They get a checkmark next to them and they become unhighlighted so I know that I've purchased them.

all finished. I can sort by aisle, I can sort by recipe. I can put on filters if I want to. Just a lot of really cool things that can integrate and you see this. I didn't stop the camera. I literally just picked up my phone. Here, all of this is auto-populating from what I'm doing here on my tablet, which is really impressive. Okay, the next category is called pantry. Like I mentioned before, I haven't fully mastered this yet. What I think it might be the best utility of this, and it will take a little while to set up, but it's to really sit down just when you have maybe an hour or so and categorize everything that you have in your pantry so that you know what you have. This way, if you are like me and you've taken your kids on like a nap drive and they finally fall asleep and you pull over and park somewhere and think, I'll get some meal planning done, and you're not at home so you can't see what's in your pantry, you have a list here. It's kind of

neat because as you type things in like let's try chocolate milk. It'll go ahead and categorize it for you. So I click the milk chocolate here done. It goes ahead and adds it under dairy. So it does do a little bit of categorization for you. But you can manually change those as well. Again, I'm not using this one a whole lot. But it is good to know that I can. If I ever want to sit down and really take account of what I just keep stocked up in my pantry. I can put this here and refer back to it as I'm making my grocery list. The meals tab is probably my favorite thing of all. It's just so easy to use when I'm ready to figure out my meal plan for the week. I just open up that week. Let's come here. I can see like I have a fresh week to start planning now. So let me just move forward one week into next week. You can see earlier I added that lasagna recipe for Monday. This is where I start.

with my meal planning. By the way, I open up this weekly view, and this will automatically scroll forward based on the date that your tablet says that it is, which is really helpful. I just had to scroll forward because I'm moving into the next week. All I have to do is click Add, and this is where I can do some pretty cool things. So, I can add a recipe, which means I can just go into any of these recipes that I have here. So, let's say that on Sunday, I want to add a recipe. Maybe I'll do chicken piccata that night. I'm going to add it to Sunday, click Next, I'm going to make it for dinner, and save. And then, now that I've got this in here for Sunday, I can click Add again. I can add another recipe. Maybe I want to do, I don't know, roasted broccoli with garlic. I want it on the 12th, I want it for dinner, and done. Now, I really only use this for planning my dinners, but as you

could probably see a second ago, you can actually plan out breakfast, lunch, and dinner, which is really cool. From this tab, I can also add notes. So, like, for example, I'll go in here, just add a note for myself. I can type something out really quickly like, Start dinner. Let's say that someone in my household has, like, an event. My stepson is in the gamer community. Maybe he has a game that's scheduled for 7:00 or something. So, I want to start dinner a little bit earlier. I can make that note as well. And now when I come in here, I can really easily see that and know, Okay, on this day, I need to start dinner at 5:00, which is amazing. The menus tab is one that I really have not been using, but what's kind of cool about this is if you have, like, a recipe set that you tend to use really frequently, let's say it's like for Thanksgiving, and you want to put together your turkey recipe with your dressing recipe and your cranberry sauce.

and like all of the things that you always cook on Thanksgiving, you can create a menu here, which I've obviously not done much of yet. But then on, say, Thanksgiving, you can go into your meals, and you can actually just add that menu item, so it will import all of those recipes that you have put into that menu, which is just so amazing. And really, that's basically it. It's interesting. I think the coolest thing about this app is that it is so powerful and still so simple. It's just amazing that it does so much, but there's only really this small number of categories. It's not hard to master. You can download it and literally have it completely nailed down in terms of how to use it in just a couple of minutes, which you can't say about all apps out there. It's just, it really has been such a game-changer for me in terms of planning out my meals, making sure that I'm having some diversity in my meals, and just feeling organized.
