Could it be possible that the final explanation for reality was written by a bouncer while working at a bar in Long Island? According to Chris Langan, the bouncer in question, no one has been able to prove his theory wrong since its publication in 2002. As a man who

supposedly began speaking at six months old, writing at age three, with a measured IQ between 195 and 210, which by the way is 40 points higher than Albert Einstein, Chris Langan knew he was destined to do something special with his god-given

gift. And despite growing up in poverty and regularly being beaten by his stepfather, Langan was devoted to teaching himself as much as he could about the world around him. And even scored a perfect score on his SATs, despite falling asleep twice during the

exam. And after years of looking for answers and being unsatisfied by the world views and theories of philosophers, scientists, and religions, he decided he must compose his own ultimate theory of reality. And this is how the Cognitive-Theoretic Model of the Universe, or CTMU,

was born. The CTMU, according to Langan, is a theory which comprehends and explains Ultimate Reality and the Mind through logical induction and mathematics alone. The reason it is able to do this is through its super tautological structure. A super tautology is a theory of reality

constructed in such a way that it is true by definition. One example of a tautology is 'All bachelors are unmarried.' This is true because by definition of a bachelor, they must be unmarried. As you will see throughout this video, the CTMU works.

much in the same way except by the use of more fundamental truths and definitions about the nature of reality. Using this form of logical induction, the theory starts from the most fundamental truth being that to be is to be perceived, and that I think therefore I am. This basically implies that reality

is self-identifying, meaning it perceives itself in order to exist and that it defines its own existence in terms of itself. This concept is known within the CTMU as the Mind equals reality principle, which is the first of three starting premises. The second premise is the

metaphysical autology principle or 'map' for short. 'Map' conveniently enough, sort of maps reality for us. It says that nothing can exist outside of reality because for something to exist, it must affect reality, and anything that can affect reality must be included in reality. Therefore, everything must exist

within reality. The third principle called the multiplex Unity principle is a little bit more complicated, so I will refer to the CTMU Wiki page for help. In essence, it states that reality is consistent in the sense that it is stable with respect to the laws of

perception and cognition. If I'm understanding this right, this means that reality is a closed loop of perception and creation, and the way an observer views reality is consistent and will obey certain rules, which the observer is able to exist within. The way that reality communicates

to itself about itself is through syntax. Langan says that reality is a language with its syntax ranging from the laws of the universe, mathematics, spoken language, literally anything that communicates or portrays reality. And the triality between reality, observer, and syntax serve the ultimate purpose of

increasing the general **generalized** utility of the universe. **Generalized** utility is defined within the CTMU as the quantity which reality exists to maximize. Now, this is not defined as one specific thing, but is rather the sum of the smaller self-defined purposes or desires present in individual

observers. I like this representation, but I think a more elegant way of putting it is to say that the Universe serves the purpose of increasing its complexity, intelligence, consciousness, and therefore for perception of itself. But anyway you slice it, the CTMU basically says that reality is one

entity perceived by many observers which exists for the purpose of creating, perceiving, and defining reality itself. implications of the theory and the meaning this would have for us as humans. One of the first implications which garnered the CTMU so much attention, both positive and negative, is the alleged proof of God. This theory claims that through its definition of God, God must necessarily exist in

In the CTMU, God is a global supermind which is made from the collective perception of smaller agents such as ourselves or other forms of awareness. Reality comes together through its perception in order to create God, as God designs and structures the universe.

In order to create us in himself, Langan claims that his perception of God satisfies all religions and that God is that which experiences pure syntax and experiences all of reality clearly. Through local observers, we see God in the CTMU. There's something called the stratified identity

and God can be defined as the highest level of the stratified identity, the level that we all share with each other. We're all united in God, but God is good and he must exclude evil in order to preserve the integrity of his identity. The CTMU proof for God is

basically just that the properties of God being omniscience, omnipresence, and omnipotence are equivalent and describe the same thing as Langan's description of how reality is self-processing, self-distributed, and self-configuring. Now if this seems unsatisfactory to you, don't worry, we

will address some criticisms on this theory later. Moving on, the CTMU, according to Langan, also implies that when we die we do go to some kind of heaven, and Langan has even gone so far to say that the dead could possibly communicate with us if they so

desired. This theory also postulates, through something called telic recursion, that the universe seeks to maximize its general utility and to create itself. This is kind of where God affects the universe as a guiding hand or intelligent designer, which created us and the world we inhabit in the CTMU.

This language means that even before the Big Bang, reality knew what it was lacking in terms of intelligence, structure, and purpose, and therefore changed itself over time in order to reach that potential. Langan also claims that reality can modify the laws of physics and even collapse quantum wave functions.

by evaluating the sum over possible futures and then choosing the options that maximize consciousness. With a theory that makes such confident claims and conclusions, there will obviously be a heavy bombardment of criticism. Even though Langan claims that the attempts to break down his theory over the past two

decades have not even managed to put a dent in the CTMU, I can see the reasons why this theory is largely unaccepted. First off, let's just state the obvious: logical deduction alone can only take you so far, and reality often acts much differently than logic

would suggest, especially in the most fundamental, paradoxical levels. So even though Langan claims to prove the existence of God or the collapse of the quantum wave function, it's all useless unless it makes predictions which can be verified in reality. So that is where a

large portion of scientific-type criticism comes from. Not only that, but many claim that his use of logic is flawed, but I, along with most people, don't know the logical proofs well enough to dissect them. One other criticism that I personally agree with

that many others have pointed out is that the CTMU is unreadable to anybody not familiar with the CTMU, no matter how smart they are. This is because much of the words used frequently in the theory are basically made up by Langan to

explain concepts that he thought up. Now I understand that he had to make some new definitions for what he was describing, but when almost every other word in this 56-page document is cryptically defined and surrounded by lots of intellectual jargon, it's very

hard to even understand how he constructs his logic. Some believe Langan did this on purpose to make his theory hard to criticize, but it also makes it hard to communicate and spread to other people, so it definitely hurts the CTMU in the long run. I would love to see

Langan or a CTMU thinker rewrite the theory in plain English because I believe it has a lot of merit, and I would like to better understand the logic, but I doubt this will occur. People also criticize his proof of God because, much like St. Anselm's historic

proof, it is basically a play on definitions and words. And the CTMU also does not solve or address the problem of evil. All of these criticisms aside, we still need to remember that Langan is approaching and pioneering an entire new realm of philosophical and scientific

theories of everything, and current mistakes or flaws should be seen as an opportunity for improvement. And even if the implications or logic of the CTMU is flawed, there is no doubt that Langan's model of consciousness and reality is most

definitely enlightening and perspective-shifting. So, despite how this theory may have been received by intellectuals, this does walk us one step closer towards a complete theory of reality, and I commend Langan for taking such a strong crack at it on behalf of
