Hello, I am currently the president of Kainuri, and I am a recent graduate of the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. Hello, I am currently a freshman at the College of Engineering, and my student ID number is from the Department of Chemical Engineering, my name is Joo Soo-min. Hello, I am a student in the Bachelor’s program of the Department of Bio and Brain Engineering, and I am from the class of 2023, my name is Yoon Chae-won. Hello, I am Kwon Dae-yong, currently studying at the Graduate School of Cultural Technology. Kainuri is currently an official student ambassador organization for KAIST, actively engaged in promoting KAIST both internally and externally. Mocha is a student model club that provides student images of KAIST for promotional materials for the school or external events, and at the same time, it plays a role in assisting when external promotional materials are needed. Kainuri originally did not start as a promotional ambassador; it began as a kind of press corps with a promotional magazine that is currently being published.

I started in 2006, and then from 2008, I was appointed as a student ambassador and have been actively involved ever since. In the case of Moka, it wasn't initially an organization; we were continuously recruiting whenever the public relations office needed external materials. However, it became too difficult to recruit every time, so we thought it would be great to create a group for those who frequently filmed or had a shared purpose. That's how it was established, and in 2012, it was officially created as an organization under the public relations office. From the perspective of an older graduate student, the biggest advantage is that there is no age restriction. I honestly think that is the most significant aspect because, while KAIST has many undergraduate students, there are also a lot of graduate students. Although some may want to join KAINU, they might not be able to, but Moka is always open. Our KAINU is officially the public relations group of KAIST.

Since we represent the school through various events as a club, I believe our club is better. I know that there are one or two times more graduate students than undergraduate students, but can we say that a group that only allows freshmen can represent the undergraduate students? In our case, we enjoy young energy, and older individuals may not like it. However, Kai doesn't particularly dislike old energy. The fact that there is an age limit is a bit disappointing for us. We do have to commit to two years of activity, which means that older students, who are often busy and have challenging lives, might find it difficult to participate. As you mentioned, Kai is actively involved during the first and second years. To my knowledge, Kai and the team organize various events during the vacation and participate a lot in official school activities.

I know that a lot of mood is created when we come together. In contrast, in the case of Mocha, if someone wants to participate in unofficial outings or other activities excluding the regular meeting, they can do so. If they feel it would be difficult, they can autonomously adjust their load, which means they can balance their other commitments, like studies. I think this is the only downside of our club. However, I believe that having many loads is actually an advantage of our club. The fact that we can try various things is also one of our strengths. Although it is widely known that we have a lot of loads, that’s not entirely true. When we have events in a TF format, we recruit participants, similar to Mocha. We then form a team to carry out external events, so aside from a few essential events, most of our activities are flexible.

I hope you remember that there aren't many roads like this. So, what activities does Mocha usually engage in? There are both official and unofficial activities. The official ones include the Light Follow Photography Club and the Angles Club at Chungnam National University. We often go on joint outings with them every spring and autumn. There's also an internal photography department where we go out for shoots about once or twice after selecting a location. Since we create promotional materials for the school's public relations office, we also conduct regular photo shoots for them. We often meet and hang out with people during our free time. What activities are primarily conducted in the KAIST community? Our activities can be broadly divided into three categories. It's beautiful, isn't it? Wearing a pretty uniform, I will now give you a campus tour of KAIST. There is a campus tour available, and during the vacation, have you heard of the Chang-Glee camp? It was briefly paused during COVID but resumed in 2022. The Chang-Glee Kids program is coming back, targeting second-year high school students from general high schools, science high schools, and gifted schools. We are conducting a camp that lasts about four days. As I mentioned earlier, there is a publication called KAIST Vision that is produced in collaboration with the admissions office. It is published twice a year. By the way, could you also tell us about campus tours for graduate students? There is a dual campus route. I recommend visiting the campus from the east side, as there are many buildings related to research in that area. If you apply later, I will make sure to assist you thoroughly. I think it is quite rude to recommend research labs for a campus tour aimed at graduate students. Many graduate students might feel upset about that. Speaking of our club's top output, I have to mention it. You probably already know, but I’ll say it again: we have 1.13 million followers and 200,000 subscribers. Professor GD is alongside us, and there’s a man named Huh Seong-beom, who is also my peer in the club, so I feel very proud of that. If you join, Seong-beom will definitely become friends with you, and you can have meals together and even go to the sauna.

I have a mentor. First of all, we all strive for the best output, but to mention some famous individuals, there is Senior Seo Hyun-ji, who appeared on the university competition show with Senior Heo Seong-beom. She is a former president of Kainuri and a well-known actress from KAIST. I also know that actress Yoon So-hee, who is quite famous, briefly participated in Kainuri during her freshman year before being cast on the street, which led her to start her acting career. We do have actual celebrities among us. In my case, I think the biggest change for me has been getting a girlfriend. Besides that, I used to be quite shy about filming, but I’ve overcome a lot of that reluctance. I think those are the biggest changes for me. Before joining Kainuri, I was someone who was very shy.

While participating in various events through the Kainuri activities, I ended up meeting a lot of people. As a result, I feel like I'm becoming more comfortable interacting with others. We often participate in external events organized by KAIST, which has helped me gain a lot of insights in the working environment. For me, the most significant change has been realizing that graduate students are just people too. For instance, if I hadn't joined Moka, I would have only been able to meet my teaching assistants as a new student, and they seemed like distant seniors. However, since I've been hanging out with graduate students, my perspective on the school has definitely broadened. I've gained a better understanding of what expressions look good on me and what styles suit me. This has given me the opportunity to further develop my image.

I think there was something I wanted to mention. When you think of a modeling club, certain images come to mind, like fashion shows or the idea that you need to be 190 cm tall. However, I also had no experience in modeling. We are models, but we also represent students and capture the essence of campus life, so I hope you can apply without any pressure. 

When our ambassador introduces themselves at events, they say, I am the official student ambassador of KAIST, Kai Nuri. It is official; we are the official student ambassadors.
