If you look at the circled area, you can see the flash flying over the sky of Tel Aviv, and it was observed falling to the ground. After the flash hit the ground, a loud explosion was repeatedly heard. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that this was a retaliation against Ismail Haniyeh and Hassan Nasrallah, stating, We aimed at the enemy's heart. However, due to this impact, the U.S. and South Korean stock markets were affected. Today, the KOSPI index closed down by 1.22%, and Samsung Electronics fell to the 50,000 won range during trading, which had a slightly negative impact.

The justification for the missile attacks mentioned the two missions, Haniyeh and Nasrallah. If you could show the photos again, I think you might not have seen the two of them, so I prepared them. If you look at the left photo, Haniyeh was the political leader of Hamas, who was killed in an Israeli rocket attack on July 31. On the right is Nasrallah, the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, who is reported to have died in an Israeli airstrike on the 27th of last month. Meanwhile, the Iranian Foreign Minister stated on the 2nd that if the Israeli regime does not provoke further retaliation, Iran's retaliatory measures will come to an end. However, they also stated that the claims made by Hezbollah, that the Israeli ground forces have entered Lebanese territory, are all false. Therefore, Israel has indicated that they will indeed conduct ground operations, and it seems that it wouldn't be surprising if either side were to escalate into full-scale war at any moment. Currently, the situation regarding whether Israeli ground forces will actually be deployed to Lebanon is a crucial turning point. Recently, I have prepared some photos from the past week. From the 30th of last month, the Israeli military has been conducting bombings in the southern region, and on the early morning of the 1st, they initiated bombings in the village near the Lebanese border. It seems that the situation is becoming increasingly serious. However, both Israel and Lebanon are continuously providing differing statements, so it appears we need to keep a close watch on the developments. For now, we cannot ascertain whether Israel will actually send ground troops into Lebanon. Our reporter, Han Ji-won, has been in communication with the Israeli embassy since last year. Have you tried contacting the Israeli embassy? Yes, I have, but it seems that the embassy is hesitant to provide a clear response, which is quite unfortunate.

There are some parts that are quite sensitive right now. The Danish embassy in Israel is facing some attacks regarding that appointment, so there is a cautious atmosphere. It seems that we need to observe the situation a bit more. I think there will be some developments in that regard. When this situation first erupted, we had a one-on-one interview with the Israeli ambassador to South Korea, who recently completed his term and left for Israel about a month ago. Consequently, a new ambassador has arrived, but I understand that he has not yet started his term. Therefore, I believe it is difficult to provide an official response at this time. I haven't been able to get a response regarding that. I understand. In any case, the situation with the Yemeni rebel leaders has escalated, so we are not ruling out full-scale war. However, as the situation continues to escalate, we will keep you updated. Now, let's take a look at the second news story. The second news is something I prepared. Kakao T has signed a re-usage contract with competing taxi platform operators, such as Banban, Macaron, and Taraji. They proposed to these competing platforms that if they refuse, they won't be able to use our services or receive calls from us. Because of this, the Fair Trade Commission has decided to impose a fine of 72.4 billion won, although this is a provisional decision. Now, I will explain the details of this matter.

There are currently two investigations being conducted regarding Kakao Mobility. The first is about the so-called call favoritism. This refers to the practice where a lot of calls are given to affiliated taxis while non-affiliated taxis do not receive any calls. The second investigation, which I will discuss today, involves the alleged abuse of monopolistic power against competing platform operators. Although the term abuse of power was not explicitly used by the Fair Trade Commission, it essentially describes the situation. I have also done some research on this matter, and I will share the perspectives and positions from both sides. I encourage you to judge for yourselves who is right. First, let me explain what the Fair Trade Commission stated today.

The Fair Trade Commission has demanded that Kakao Mobility sign a re-contract that allows the four competing ride-hailing services—Uber, Tada, and others—to provide their trade secrets in real time as Kakao T Blue begins its operations. If they refuse, actions will be taken to block drivers from these ride-hailing services from using the general calling service of the Kakao T app, along with corrective orders and fines. The decision has also been made to report Kakao Mobility to the prosecution. This is the core of today's discussion. 

Now, this might be a bit difficult to understand, so let me break it down for you. From a common-sense perspective, if a Kakao T driver receives a Kakao call, an Uber driver receives an Uber call, and a BanBan driver receives a BanBan call, this is the situation from the drivers' perspective.

I decided not to hold back. What you did was an abuse of power. The issue here is why this was viewed as an act that hinders competition by using exclusive control. For example, you looked at the driving data, which is very sensitive information for platform companies. They know exactly when and where calls are most frequent. So, Kakao T knows the peak times and locations for calls, and even information about competitors like Woowa, Tada, and others. You are taking all this information to grow, while the competing platforms cannot grow because of what you created. This is the judgment of fairness, and it’s not entirely incomprehensible. It's a very difficult issue to judge. Meanwhile, Kakao Mobility also talks about this. This is not official, but to put it metaphorically, saying that it's a bit unreasonable to make Paris Baguette sell Tous Les Jours bread is something I interpreted. It's not something they officially stated, but it can be seen as their position. On the other hand, the Fair Trade Commission is saying that we should enter into a re-partnership agreement, and if we don't, they will make it so that you can't receive regular calls at all. This raises the question of whether this constitutes unfair coercion, according to the Fair Trade Commission's judgment. Moreover, it begs the question of why they claim this is unfair coercion and why they argue that competition should be lost. If you can't receive regular calls...

Receiving it, in fact, makes it very difficult to recruit new drivers for Uchin or what was it, because there are no calls. So, why would I go there and drive? This is seen as a reason that hinders competition, according to the judgment of the Fair Trade Commission. As a result of such actions, Kakao Mobility's share of the taxi market was 51% until 2020, but by 2022, it had increased to 79%. This is the Fair Trade Commission's judgment. Ultimately, it was determined that the abuse of market dominance led to a decline in fair competition based on price and quality among businesses, and restricted the reasonable choices of taxi drivers and consumers. Therefore, they decided to impose sanctions. Han Gi-jeong, the chairperson of the Fair Trade Commission, concluded that the act of requiring business secrets, such as operational data from competing businesses, could hinder fair competition.

This is a case that was discussed. Regarding this, Kakao Mobility stated that the purpose of signing the platform exclusivity contract is to enhance user convenience by minimizing call duplication. As that reporter pointed out earlier, if two calls are received and Kakao T simply cancels one, what happens to the customer? There is a counterargument that this is to increase convenience. Who do you think is right? In fact, many comments are being made about this. Isn't it true that only the canceled customer suffers? Shouldn't the customer be able to choose? Many people are saying this. If customers can choose, they will choose Kakao T because there are plenty of taxis available, right? It will definitely be picked up quickly. Therefore, if we let customers choose, Kakao T's market share will expand.

Still, the truth is that it's about 80%, almost 79%, as you mentioned. It seems like it has risen to that point. I guess this won't be the end of it. Now, I really think that what I said might be true: Kakao is becoming less favorable over time. Logically, I understand it all, but emotionally, it seems inevitable that I keep turning against it. Also, what Kakao says is that when they entered into the joint contract, they couldn't see the general calls in places like Uraji. When they were trying to establish the joint contract, they sent a notice to all competing companies, saying, Let's sign an M agreement. They believed that this would help prevent overlapping calls. However, there were companies that did not respond. So, to those companies that did not respond...

We have not signed a re-use contract, but can this be seen as hindering competition? Since this is also Kakao Mobility's position, let's consider this from various angles and think together about who is right. The platform continues to encounter such issues, right? In fact, it was mentioned in my comments that it feels similar to Baemin. Baemin also has a monopoly structure, which we deal with a lot, and as this structure keeps arising, it's somewhat unavoidable, but we also need to improve it. So, when we say it's completely prohibited, it leads to negative sentiments. In response, Kakao Mobility has said, I sent an official document; what can I do if it didn't arrive?

It turns out that, despite everything, it seems to be emotionally difficult for both consumers and taxi service providers to accept this. Now, let's take a look at the next news. I wanted to share some updates about platforms. It seems that the average Korean uses about 3.4 OTT platforms per person. How many do you use? Including music and OTT, right? Yes, including all of them—Netflix, Coupang Play, YouTube, and then Apple Music, those four. I personally use Tving, Wave, Coupang, and I also watch Netflix. I’ve been using Melon for a long time, so I just keep listening to Melon. So that's about five platforms in total. It has been reported that domestic consumers spend nearly 500,000 won annually on music and other services.

Yes, yes. It costs about 500,000 won a year, which is roughly 40,000 won a month. So, regarding the subscription, the professional advertising agency has presented a table. If you could show the table, it displays the current status of subscription service usage and consumer perception among consumers in the East Asia region. Looking at this table, South Korean consumers are using an average of 3.4 subscription services and are spending about 30 dollars, which is approximately 40,000 won per month. This includes services like music subscriptions. It appears that domestic consumers are primarily using subscription-based video services, with around 84% indicating they use them. When combining music and TV, the percentage is also about 84%. Following that, there are music sites and shopping platforms. Among the survey subjects, Taiwan shows a usage rate 4.2 times higher, spending around 47,000 won per month.

In terms of spending, South Korea has the highest expenditure, while Japan spends about 2.8 times less, with an average monthly expenditure of around 30,000 won. However, it turns out that the spending costs in the U.S. and Europe are considerably higher than in South Korea. Can you guess how much that is? I have a feeling that in the U.S., it might be over 100,000 won a month. This is because, in the U.S., there is already a strong culture of paying for cable, which has led to a significant shift towards OTT services. In fact, watching sports in the U.S. is just a normal part of life, so the resistance to subscription services for streaming is very low. Therefore, I think they spend quite a bit of money. How much do they spend? That's right, they spend about 77 dollars a month, which is approximately 103,000 won. You guessed it perfectly! And in Europe, the expenditure is around 80,000 won. Europe also spends quite a bit.

There are many platforms, and in Europe, it is reported that an average of 4.5 services are used when purchasing more than 3.2 items. Looking at the next table, it shows that in the East Asian region, subscribers with at least one platform are combining products and services from other companies. In other words, they are using cable services through telecommunications companies. About 66% of respondents indicated that they would like their mobile carriers to offer packages. This figure is reportedly much higher than in the United States or Europe. However, as the number of subscription platforms increases, consumer fatigue regarding subscriptions will naturally rise. About 64% of participating consumers expressed a need for a service that can manage all their subscriptions and accounts, especially among domestic consumers.

Among the respondents, 71% indicated that the proportion of responses was higher than average. About 62% of all respondents said that if such a service were provided, it would help manage store costs. The Senior Vice President of the research firm, Disuzuki Bank, mentioned that in the East Asia region, the subscription economy is continuously evolving and diversifying. He predicted that the burden on subscribers would increase in the future, leading to a rapid increase in the need for subscription management services. 

In fact, in South Korea, the merger between B-In and Wave is currently underway. There is a monopoly structure in place with Netflix, and negotiations are reportedly ongoing to catch up with this. As someone who watches multiple services, I find that even having just one service can be challenging.

There is a desire for integration. Currently, this has led to significant expenditures. So, shall we take a look at where we are spending the most? I have prepared some information on our spending. According to the statistics office's announcement today, the online shopping transaction amount in August recorded 19 trillion 558 billion won, which is an increase of 1.9%. This increase rate is the lowest since the related statistics were restructured in 2017. Until last July, there was almost a 5.2% increase, so you can see that it has dropped nearly by half. Therefore, the impact of the TF was significant. One way to show the actual effects of this TF is to look at what has decreased the most in online shopping. If you come inside, it has decreased. The biggest decrease can be seen in the coupon service at the very bottom. You can see it, right? It's small, so it might not be noticeable, but you don't need to see everything. The coupon service at the bottom has decreased by almost half. I will explain the distinction between online and mobile. Online refers to purchases made through a PC, while mobile refers to purchases made through your smartphones. What I am showing you indicates that the coupon service has significantly decreased in online shopping. Next, what you will see is mobile shopping insights, which has decreased by 37%. This shows how much impact the situation has had on our spending in online shopping. So, what did we spend a lot on? Let’s take a look.

I wanted to see this together, but I actually think this is more important. If you look, online shopping has decreased by 11.3% for electronics, 3.6% for fashion, and increased by 14.69% for food, while daily necessities have surged by 99.7%. As for services, particularly in travel, people are still spending a lot. It seems that many people from our country are traveling abroad a lot. I heard that during this recent holiday, many went on trips. It's natural for travel services to increase. However, if we exclude that, we see that when our wallets are full, we tend to buy more electronics like computers and communication devices, and all of that has decreased. Essentially, the items that must be purchased, regardless of how thin one's wallet becomes, have increased by 14.9%, and daily necessities have surged by 99.7%. This phenomenon is also evident in mobile shopping, although there are slight differences. In mobile, home appliances have decreased by 3.3%, and fashion items have decreased by 1.8%. However, food has increased by 17.3%, and daily necessities have risen by 7.4%. This trend is quite similar. Reporter Han Ji-won mentioned that buying clothes is something typical for young people. The stock market we are looking at, and the stock market referred to here, is not just about stock price movements. It also includes movements by industry. As we know, exports reached an all-time high in September, indicating that there is a significant discrepancy between industrial movements and the economic conditions we are experiencing. I feel it is important to convey this information from time to time. 

Now, let's take a look at the next news. I have prepared real estate news based on the economy. It shows that the number of people in their 30s and 40s who took out loans of 500 million won to purchase homes in Seoul has increased by 268% compared to the peak housing price period in 2021. According to the data from the office of Rep. Eom Tae-hyung of the People Power Party, between January and July of this year, 32,870 housing transactions were recorded in Seoul.

In 2021, there were a total of 6,562 cases where individuals in their 30s and 40s borrowed over 500 million won to purchase homes. The sharp rise in housing prices during that year led to the emergence of the term young people pushing themselves into debt, which became a social issue. Throughout 2021, there were only 175 transactions involving the 30-40 age group that included loans over 500 million won. However, this figure has now increased to over 6,500 cases, marking a 268% rise compared to 2021. This indicates that not only have loan amounts increased, but transactions have also surged. These individuals have taken on debt to purchase high-priced apartments in popular residential areas such as Gangnam's three districts, Mapo, Yongsan, and Seongdong. The 30-40 age group has been leading this trend, significantly impacting the overall housing market in Seoul this year.

In housing transactions, the proportion of deals involving loans is 62.2%. The average loan amount is approximately 470 million won, which is an increase from 279 million won three years ago, meaning it has increased by about 1.7 times. Looking at the table on the right, in 2021, when the housing market was booming, individuals in their 40s accounted for about 26.5% of the home purchases in Seoul. This year, that percentage has risen to 38.3%. In fact, the average loan amount for those in their 40s is the highest among all age groups. This year, the average loan amount for people in their 40s has reached 500 million won, which is a 76.4% increase compared to 280 million won three years ago. The next group is individuals in their 30s, followed by those in their 50s and then 60s. However, the regions where homes are purchased have also changed compared to three years ago.

It is said that a lot has changed. Yes, indeed, a lot has changed. In 2021, apartments priced under 900 million won were popular in areas like Nodogang, but now, excluding those in their 20s, the 30-30 age group is showing interest in high-priced apartments, particularly in areas like Gangnam, Songpa, and Seocho. The order of preference has shifted. This year, the industry has pointed out that the increase in purchases is due to the current government's policy allowing loans for high-priced housing over 1.5 billion won. Additionally, since the beginning of this year, the trend of apartment prices in Seoul has turned upward, which has led to more active relocation using loans. However, this phenomenon does reflect some vulnerabilities in the overall economy.

There is a possibility that the current situation regarding principal and interest, as well as the contraction in consumption, will continue. Recently, the mortgage rates that have been applied are expected to have an impact similar to that of 2021. Therefore, Park Won-gap, the chief real estate expert at KB Kookmin Bank, mentioned that there could be a significant drop in apartment prices in the future. What are your thoughts on this? Since the beginning of the year, the government's policy loan, known as the special loan for new housing, was introduced very strongly. Although the government did not overtly encourage consumers to buy houses, it strongly implied that they should. Additionally, when it was initially set for July, the DSR (Debt Service Ratio) was supposed to start, but it was quietly postponed to September, which also affects the housing market.

Buyers have been receiving signals that they need to purchase before September. Because of this, there was a sense of urgency among the 30s and 40s, leading them to think that if they didn't act now, they wouldn't be able to buy a home. Given that housing prices are already high, many felt compelled to borrow large sums of money to buy a house. This mentality has definitely been at play. As a result, people are willing to spend significant amounts of money to buy homes in areas like Gangnam, Songpa, Seocho, Seongdong, and Gangdong. Of course, this is also dependent on their financial capacity. Such events have occurred, and ultimately, what has emerged is a significant regional disparity. If there had been signals for balanced development across the country, it wouldn't be so disappointing. Instead, the gap has only widened along with those signals.

I don't actually think the real estate market is going to collapse, despite the current phenomena. When it gets shaken up, those who were involved might struggle to repay their debts, which we often talk about. The biggest risk occurs when the value of the collateral drops below what the owner secured. I don't believe such a situation will happen; for that to occur, the economy of our country would need to be significantly shaken. However, I do think that this situation is causing a severe widening of the gap. In 2021, the 30-40 age group saw many people making substantial profits through gap investments, which has led to a perception that they did well. Now, as this age group continues to engage in economic activities, there may be an increasing desire to buy more properties, driven by the potential for further earnings.

It seems there is a point. Understood. Now, regarding the real estate, there have been such phenomena, and I will briefly convey the next news. Currently, there is an intense management dispute between Korea Zinc and NBK Youngpoong. Today, Chairman Choi Yun-beom of Korea Zinc held a press conference. The reason for this press conference was that a court ruling was announced before the conference this morning. As Team Leader Geon-soon reported in the morning, there was a request for a provisional injunction against Korea Zinc regarding the acquisition of its own shares, and the court has now issued a ruling on that. They dismissed the request. This means that the court has determined that Korea Zinc can indeed buy back its own shares, so it is ultimately interpreted as allowing the purchase of its own shares. Therefore, Chairman Choi announced today that he would proceed with the share buyback.

Before the press conference, Korea Zinc announced that through a board decision, it would publicly purchase over 3.2 million shares of Korea Zinc at 830,000 won per share from April 4 to 23 of this month. There are concerns that using company funds to maintain Chairman Choi Yong-beom's shareholding could be seen as embezzlement.
