- It's the seven o'clock hour, Eastern time, and this is our election update. Polls have closed in six states, including the swing state of Georgia, but we're in that part of the evening where everybody wants to know something and the vote count isn't in, so there's not a lot to know, but there are things we can tell you based on a big survey of the people who voted in the election called AP Vote Cast. Who voted today? It looks like the electorate was fairly much more female than in 2020 and younger than in 2020. So far, it looks like they could be outnumbering men by nine points, and young people, those under age 30, they seem to be about 16% of all voters compared to 13% last time. Now, one thing we've seen is what was on the minds of people as they voted, and this is a very sour electorate, like an electorate looking for change.

and angry about the economy more than in 2020. People think the economy is on the wrong track rather than in good shape. And one thing that really stood out again in these early numbers is we asked people, are they getting ahead or falling behind? And the share of people who voted who said they were falling behind these days really jumped. It was about 18% in 2020, and now 31%, almost a third of voters say they're falling behind in the economy. Now, we can't say yet how different groups in the electorate voted, but we can tell you this: Donald Trump is viewed more unfavorably than favorably, whereas Kamala Harris scores a little bit better on this favorability-unfavorability square. So stay tuned. We're gonna keep updating viewers on these numbers and, of course, telling you what we're seeing in the election results.
