I've always wanted to be a dragon, but I never thought a Path of Exile update would actually turn me into one, and that's exactly what Poe 3.25 did. It turned me into a dragon who loves gold, loves hoarding it, and not like most dragons, loves spending it. And that's what we're going to talk about today because gold in Poe 3.25, Settlers of Calgar, is quite the hot topic. Because it is incredibly valuable, people love gold, people are using gold for all sorts of things, and also keeps making me run one more map before bed, and it turns into like 20 more maps by the time I actually go to bed. So let's talk about gold, its uses, and if it's in too little supply or not. I know people already have strong opinions on this, so go ahead, drop them below before I get into my huge tirade on the topic. It's not often that I entirely agree with a Reddit post, but this individual right here, Cognito Hazard Avoider, made one of the best Reddit posts that I've seen in quite some time on The Path of Exile subreddit. His opinion basically mirrors my own and what I've been seeing from a lot of my community on Twitter, in the YouTube comments, and in-game itself. It's essentially talking about how gold is in great demand right now because we use it for so many different things. You're seeing all the big pop-off videos on YouTube all talking about how to generate gold because people want gold. They want to use it because there's a lot of things you can do with it. You use it to trade a currency on the Currency Exchange Market. You need it to make those trades. You need gold to upgrade King's March. You need gold to pay your workers so that they continue farming maps for you so that you can go on shipment so that you can disenchant.

items, and all the rest. You need gold to gamble on the black market. You need gold for all these different things. It's for respecting too. However, lots of people, especially right now, are running out of gold. Now, there are a few sides to this particular issue. This individual, I think, is right. He thinks that gold buffs would be the quickest way to kill the league. Now he goes into a few reasons why, and we'll get to them in a moment. But essentially, Camp number one is sitting on the fact that okay, gold is dropping too little. We need more gold right now so we can use said gold to quickly get our upgrades done, to quickly be able to do everything, to be able to continue running our town in perpetuity. Okay, so that's one side, too little gold, can't do everything we want to do, and we can't do it fast enough. That's essentially the argument. And of course, I'm not giving you all the nuances, I'm just boiling it down to its simplest form. Then we have Camp number

two which is the camp that I'm in. It's the fact that gold is a finite resource, and you have to make choices, choices with your gold. And that's a good thing. You can't always be running with mappers in your town. You can't be respecing constantly with your character. You can't be using the Currency Exchange Market in perpetuity while you're also buying all the upgrades for Kings March super quickly. It's a resource, it's finite, it's forcing you to make tough decisions because you shouldn't be able to just do whatever the heck you want with it. And you know, basically never run out of it. It's an actual tough choice, and that's a cool thing. And I think that's something that you see in a lot of city builders or games that use gold as a resource to build up something. Okay, and we're seeing that in Path of Exile 1 right now. I enjoy that. I think other people enjoy that too, or if you don't enjoy it, you understand it, you know why it's in the

game. You know what grinding your games is. Trying to do they want you to play the game more because it feels good to have a little bit of friction here to be thinking okay. Do I want to spend my goal to get the next level of Kings March right now or do I want to make this massive currency trade with two divines for x amount of chaos orbs? I don't know where the market is right now. I guess I could check but we're not going to check. They know exactly what they're doing with this sort of design. So with those two camps in mind everyone, which are you in? Are you in Camp number one where you don't think there's enough gold or are you in Camp number two wherein you think gold is in a good place and we just need to make difficult decisions with set gold? I wonder which Camp you're in. Let me know. Number three, yes, there is a third camp and I am a little understanding of sad camp and that's that gold is in a decent position right.

now but it's focused around a singular area, and that is Maps. Other league mechanics, including the settlers of calgar League mechanic, don't provide enough gold. And of course, let me just swap over here to grinding gear games credit. Yesterday they increased the amount of gold Dro by monsters guarding mineral deposits, which are the settlers of calgar in map mechanics. So that's very good. However, in places like heist, in delve, in other league mechanics that are in maps themselves, gold is not dropping a ton, and people are rightly saying, hey, how about why we diversify where the gold is dropping? How about we increase the drops here and there? For example, there's no golden Sanctum. However, you do get a lot of currency in sanctum. So perhaps GGG keeps it where it is right now. They're kind of saying, well, you're getting unique rewards in Heist. You don't need to get a ton of gold in Heist. If you want gold, you need to do mapping. You need to do the base Pue.

experience in Heist. You're getting custom bases and various other things, uniques, you know, like replica Alberon. You can fund your entire rest of your league, right? However, I do understand the side of people that are saying, Hey, I'm a Heist player. I like being able to play this different vertical of PoE, but I need gold. I need to progress in Heist's March, and I want to use the currency exchange, and I want to be able to respect, right? But they can't because they're not making enough in Heist or Delve, so they need to go back to mapping and get into that core gameplay loop of PoE. If PoE wants to move forward and say, Hey, we have these different verticals of endgame. We want people to be playing in all of them, I think that they should buff gold generation in those other verticals. However, if they want to draw people back into the experience that steals the souls of Path of Exile players, then I think they double down and they allow gold generation to just

be Skyhigh in maps now those are the three camps as I see them now just talking a little bit about gold itself and the best ways to get it well it's t77 Maps right now and the best ways to get it I know there are some videos out there right now I know Captain Lance has released a video on it and I know others are throwing their hats into the ring about the best ways to generate gold but I think the reality is we still don't necessarily know what the best methods are we are one week into the league as of today and I think over the course of the next two weeks 3 weeks month two months we'll be able to find new strategies in which we're able to generate massive amounts of gold and everyone let's remember upgrading Kings March is is a one-time thing this leek after we do all those upfront costs the only other costs we're going to have are the workers it's the Respec system and it's the currency exchange system then

it all comes down to whether or not g thinks we should be able to have a fully functional town with maxed out workers. I think it's tier 11 as the max worker level and all of the various things running all at once. Do we want the max amount of mappers going at the same time as the max amount of disenchanter and the farmers and the shipping lanes all all going out. I don't know, it seems like that's not the case right now because we can't generate that much gold. And like I said with camps 1 and two, there's a very stark difference in opinion there. Some people think that we should be able to continue running our town at full efficiency with gold, and others think you need to make tough decisions. I'm in that ladder Camp. I do think tough decisions are pretty cool in video games, and I like when you get them in Path of Exile. It's fun, that's what makes it a cool game, you know. In other games, you don't really have tough decisions.

you can just blast through everything without thinking or healing or dying. That's not cool. I don't like that. I like that Path of Exile forces us to think, and I hope you do too.
