I will now begin the commemorative special lecture of the Republic of Korea Future Innovation Forum. Today's lecture will be on the theme of Future is Here, started by Nam Kyung-pil, the former governor of Gyeonggi Province and the current chairman of Ponylink. Please welcome him with a big round of applause when he comes up. Hello, nice to meet you. I am Nam Kyung-pil. It feels like it's been a long time, about 10 years, since I last came to the National Assembly. When I ran for the governor of Gyeonggi Province in 2014, I resigned as a member of the National Assembly. In fact, the title of the autobiography I wrote back then was The Beginning Future. When I tried to translate The Beginning Future into English, it became Future is Here. So, the future is already starting here. Today, I will give this lecture and our representative, Kim Ki-heon, contacted me. He has been active in the National Assembly for a long time and has many stories to share. He told me to give a special lecture, so here we are.

I will not do it. I don't even go to eat near the National Assembly. However, the reason why I decided to do this today is that I felt that it is really necessary and important in the political realm at the moment. I thought I should go and speak. Also, seeing these honorable members, like Representative Hanbyeongdo, our Representative Lee Jun-seok, and many other members protecting their positions, I feel more empowered. So, I think I should just speak well and go. The message I am delivering today is that a game changer that is bringing about significant changes in our society and globally is emerging. I will only talk about what I have experienced. When I speak to Chairman Kim Ki-heon today, I will say that there are so many areas that I do not know about, but there are tremendous changes happening in the world, and we are not aware of them. Especially, our leaders.

You need to know this to be prepared. So, I will share stories that surprised me, and there are many things that our leaders will do for us. Also, people like me in the business field will make efforts in our own ways. Therefore, I would like to say that it is important at this moment to unite our strength and create the future together. How do we pass this on? Where should we look to see if we have crossed it? Oh, did we cross it? Yes. I will explain the order of things and speak according to the time. I find this person very, very interesting. However, these days, I work as a teacher in the Sunday school of the church, teaching elementary students. When our pastor displayed a picture of Chairman Lee Jae-yong, the kids asked, Who is that person? But when they saw his picture, they started applauding. This is the reality now. Everyone knows Chairman Lee Jae-yong, right?

Children may not know, but Elon Musk understands. Why does Elon Musk engage in politics? Why, why not politics, why is he doing business now? Does anyone know? Anyone might know, even CEO Kim Ki-heon has a reason for doing politics, right? Why? Why does he do business? It's for the salvation of humanity. He threw out a tremendous agenda. Personally, I do not admire his leadership or his attitude towards life. However, his agenda is about why I do business, why I want to change the world. It's all about saving humanity. Look, even Jesus Christ was about saving humanity. How do you want it? He has a hypothesis. Humanity will perish, the Earth will perish. Why? Because of climate change, humanity needs to move. They need to move to Mars. But what do you need to move? You need a spaceship. But a spaceship...

It's too expensive. When you lift 1kg of screws into the sky, everything goes up. Then, how much is 60kg? I'm about 60km, so it costs 60 million. But then, who can go to space when the end of the world is coming? Only the super-rich and a few powerful people can. So, their goal right now is to lower that price. So, what was created to delay the end of the world until then? Do you know what it is? It's Tesla. Because fossil fuel cars are leading the world to destruction, they want to delay the end by going into space with their spaceship conditions and then lowering the price. That's why they created electric cars. They are lowering it now. They are lowering it in a way that reuses the spaceship tremendously.

Prices have dropped. I just heard that they actually lowered it by about $300. Do you know the goal? It's $10. If it's raised to $10 per kilogram, I can send it for $600. Then it's not even a million won. So, is this person really talking about sending us to space in the short term? That's what this person is talking about. If everyone in the world wants to go, then to make it fair for everyone, the price must be lowered. But is this person really doing this to send us to space? It's possible. However, I have concerns in the short term. I have these fears. Now, if I ride that, it won't cost a million won. So, if I take that from Seoul, go up quickly, go sideways for 30 minutes, and come down, it's New York. Probably, they will carry cargo without passengers soon. For example, expensive things like NVIDIA's GPU, they will carry. That's how the deal goes.

If I don't do it, I think I'll burn people right away. I don't know how many years it will take, but there will be a huge change in the aviation industry in the near future. Indeed, what will happen to Korean Air? What about other airlines? When Space 10, which can travel between New York and Seoul in just 30 minutes, appears, there will be a tremendous change. Are we ready for this? I'm not sure. You've probably seen a lot of this. After the tea is served, many innovative changes are happening. This is public information. What is it? Take a look. It's a video of a very stylishly dressed woman walking down the streets of Tokyo. But this wasn't actually filmed; it was created by Chae Ji PT. This is a project called Soha, which is a technology that turns text into videos. I really wonder why I experienced this.

These days, I have been investing a lot in AI startups. About a week before I made this announcement, I met a very good AI company in Korea. This company had a technology that turns text into webtoons, and they were exceptionally well-made. I thought, Wow, we have such companies in Korea too. Let's invest. So, I decided to invest in that company with our investors. However, right before we could seal the deal, a big announcement was made. What do you think happened at that moment? We decided not to invest. While ordinary startups are still researching technologies like turning text into webtoon images, suddenly, OpenAI released a software called DALL-E. The day it was introduced, all the startups around the world that were working on technology to turn text into images just died.

A scary sound came out, a huge wave of open AI, a huge wave of knowledge, has swept through the industry. We didn't invest, that company must be in trouble now because they didn't get any investments. If they don't pivot in some other direction, survival will be difficult, I think. Many startups and tech companies around the world are facing a turning point with the sound of Chaechi Feet and the sound of Open AI. This is how it was narrated on the prompt, and that narration appeared in the video. It's truly amazing technology. This is a story of the company I am currently working with. I wanted to share this experience because it is already becoming the future. And right now, in China, they are already operating unmanned taxis. There are no drivers. In terms of levels, this is Level 4.

In the case of modern cars like Hyundai and Kia that we are experiencing, they are at Level 2. And there may be someone who drives a Tesla. Tesla is at Level 2.5. The technology of OpenAI, a known company, is at Level 4, while the technology of OpenAI's Pony.ai is at Level 4. The difference between Level 4 and Level 3, Level 2, and Level 3 is, from Level 3 onwards, the responsibility lies with both the car and the Pony.ai algorithm. In Level 3.0, humans are always responsible. If it goes beyond 3.0 and there is an accident while the system is driving without holding the steering wheel, the machine is responsible. If an accident occurs while a person is driving, the person is responsible. When it becomes Level 4, there is no need to hold the steering wheel at all, so neither the person nor the person is responsible, only the machine is responsible.

It's very important, but the Pony AI driver operating in Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing in China is completely missing. The driver will soon jump out of the driver's seat. A YouTuber, who is a famous YouTuber in Korea, visited and I visited. Before I joined this company, they asked me to join, so I did. Our CEO is a devout elder. He said, Even though I don't see Jesus, I need to see the technology. So, I went and tried it. The YouTuber quickly edited the video of me riding it. Please take a look. Why isn't it working? Please increase the volume a bit. On the way to the meeting at the company, we called and took a self-driving taxi. Yes, since the first meeting was short, about 5 minutes of video, you can watch it. Isn't it amazing? There is no driver now, it came without a person. Please get on first. It's a bit scary, but get on.

It's possible, but suddenly, oh, oh, not in some testbed, wait, wait, wait, a screen appears here. Oh, wow, wow, wow, crazy. Oh, I saw it. I dodged it. Seriously, it was really scary at first when I rode it. I thought it would move smoothly like autonomous driving, but it just stepped on the accelerator like taxi drivers. So when it accelerated, yes, that's why at first, I was quite surprised and amazed with a bit of unfamiliarity. Oh, no, the corner is art. Not all in, went in about 3/2 for the comfort of the ride. That's right, that's right, that's right. It's not a person driving, it's so natural. Left turn, the yellow light was on. Oh, it just hits the bull's eye now. Look at the car. Wow, no, but this is also amazing, from the first lane.

Going three lanes at once because I have to turn right here. That's why it's like a game of chicken, right? The logic is flexible. I'm looking at the car in front of me avoiding the car coming from the left. Wow, I saw it. Since it's coming further, this car is in the driving lane, so it stopped as soon as it saw the other car pass. Sincheon can do autonomous driving entirely now. But, now it's going zigzag here. This is like what I see here. That's right. I'm driving based on what I see here. So, we need to communicate with each other in China. Oh, it's resolved. It's better to see the car coming from behind than the person. Just now, a motorcycle came from the blind spot, so I hit the brakes hard. How did I see that? Oh, I see everything clearly. Seriously.

Check if it's okay to turn around slightly and turn around to see if you can make a U-turn. Wow, is this right? Just now, I was about to make a U-turn. Do you realize that the bus in front of you is blocking you from turning? No, that's not it. Just now, in that U-turn scene, actually, there are two surprising points. First, the opposite lane was not that wide. So, we made a U-turn on a tight road with maybe three lanes on the opposite side. Therefore, from the moment we entered the U-turn lane, we had to make the motion a bit bigger, turning slightly to the right and trying to make a big turn. But since the opposite lane was not spacious, that's what made the first point surprising. The second point, which really felt awkward for me, was that there was a U-turn, and there was a bus in front turning left. But if you look closely, the bus was.

When making a left turn, the car in front is not simply making a U-turn right away. Even though no cars are coming from the opposite side, they are not making the U-turn right away. So, it feels like I would have done the same because at the moment when the big bus is making a left turn, you can't see how many cars are coming at a fast speed on the opposite lane. Therefore, even I would have waited until the bus passed, checked if there were no cars coming on the opposite side, and then made an unprotected U-turn. As a human, I think I would have done the same. So, I thought maybe this person was thinking the same way. That night, I gave a ride to a developer and asked a few more questions, and he confirmed that. It was during the nighttime rush hour. I wondered if that person was just going straight. People are crossing the street in the dark now.

Definitely, it's the time to retire, but it's dynamic. Oh, wow, it's definitely different. Now that it's happening, did you see that just now? It was smooth, smoothly braking, almost crossing and immediately braking again. I wanted to feel a bit of the acceleration. We've officially entered the tricky section now. How are we going to pass through here? Oh, it's possible to go here. Cutting in without permission, entering the roundabout, lorry, that's what they call it. Oh, this is crazy. It's even a lorry. It's insane, insane, insane. Now, the bus is cutting in. Oh, the bus, the bus, the bus is cutting in. Okay, we let it go for now. We let it in. Hey, this is insane. This is crazy. Look at this. It's like this now. It's completely like this. It's like this now. How will we handle this situation now?

I sometimes find it amazing how the Rotary Club can handle things on the spot. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Let's go. Right now, what should we do? What should we do? Oh, as you enter appropriately, for now, find your lane first, then exit the rotary. We exited at the Vivo Hotel and now we are going to the Pony AI company for a meeting. If you see this, you'll understand. Why am I showing you this? Because this is already approaching, and the world is changing. Not only in China, but also in some cities, they have autonomous driving not only for taxis but also for buses. And how is this connected? It is connected to smart cities. Now, think about the changes this brings. The first one is freedom. What kind of freedom? Freedom of movement for people with disabilities, the elderly, and those who cannot drive.

It's formed. What kind of freedom is it? When I tried riding this, what I felt is that this car is not a connected car. It is connected through communication, but it is only used for the exhibition of Just In Case. Inside, there is an NVIDIA GPU chip that makes decisions on its own. Riders and radars are placed all over, as you saw earlier. The amount of communication it perceives is tremendous, so accidents don't happen. When people say Tesla accidents happen, well, because they don't have Lidar, they misunderstand and accidents happen. But in China, there have been no accidents in 30 million hours. People don't die or get injured. Change will happen. If it becomes like that, what will happen to all those journalists? Are we ready? It's coming. We don't know when, but it's coming. Already, the technology has reached that level, and the company that invests the most in that technology is Pony.ai.

Toyota, at the end of this year, will start selling SUVs with built-in AI technology, equipped with Toyota's Pony AI technology at Toyota factories. The world is changing. We are not able to use it yet because we are confined to a specific framework, moving only within certain lines in Gangnam. So, in terms of technology, we are currently at the 2.0 stage. Hyundai is acquiring some companies these days, debating whether to exceed 3.0 or not, but Toyota is already at 4.0. So, as it enters Korea, James Pang, a genius who graduated from Stanford University in China, started a business after working at Baidu. Hey, are you Toyota ready for the changes in the world? I am right here, addressing the leaders.

You need to prepare, but in order to prepare, don't you need to know what exactly you need to prepare for? So, I think the forum that our CEO is hosting is very valuable. In the future, more board members should come not to take pictures and leave, but to listen seriously like this. Since he was the mayor of Daegu, he will listen more seriously now. When I do something, I think he will do it too. But this is not just in this field. Game changers from various fields are emerging everywhere. When these things emerge rapidly, I get scared. Although it hasn't entered yet, in the case of buses, BYD, not Baidu, the Chinese electric vehicle, is very cheap, and the battery is at an old level, but the efficiency is increasing and the price is getting cheaper. If it comes in, can we really withstand it?

Can they do it? D has now applied for a bus as well as a passenger car. It's coming in soon. Of course, they will go there and pay customs duties, but there is no way to overcome the fundamental difference in technology and the fundamental difference in price. So, what should we do? You need to prepare. We will prepare in our own way. How to prepare? We will follow the regulations. We will gradually comply with the regulations and gradually open up. Those who are not in the business also have concerns. Then, what about our taxi drivers and bus drivers? If they all come in and disappear, what will we do? We also think about our social responsibilities in our own way. Bus drivers and taxi drivers need to find a business model that can coexist and thrive together.

It's not the way of exploiting people, you know. Nowadays, they do gig work. The platforms don't consider the workers there as their own family; they just think of them as labor and make money from gig work. But we won't do that. We will either accept them as shareholders from the beginning or share the profits. Maybe the drivers can drive in front of the journalists, they can watch, they can talk. In fact, it's the best job for the elderly. Elderly people can manage bus vehicles, taxi vehicles. This is how the world will change. Taxi drivers will be greatly welcomed. Because if you do that, you can work for 20 hours instead of working for 10 hours. If you change the regulations a bit, even if I don't drive, I can still work in part-time employment. Think about individual taxis. This is a store. This is a self-employed business. Think about all those freight trucks.

I am a self-employed person. If more work and more money can help save self-employed individuals by enabling them to earn more money, it is a project to save self-employed individuals. The reason I came here today is because of this aspect. In fact, politics and the economy need to join forces. Politics should look to the future and prepare, while the economy should not be greedy and figure out how to share profits with existing players in this era. Collaboration between each other is necessary. The key point of what I wanted to say today is that the National Assembly, led by Representative Kim Ki-heon, is really studying a lot and has various areas, such as space and aviation, especially in the bio field in Korea. There is a reason why big successes are not coming out in the bio field right now.

The structure that makes the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety solely responsible and says, Take responsibility for accidents, is a structure that absolutely, absolutely cannot bring anything new. It proceeds in the most cautious and conservative manner. If you refer to cases in the United States and Japan, you can clearly see how our system needs to change. Since I am not an expert on these matters, I will not discuss them, but gathering those people and preparing for the future trends, how will this change be made? Many business people who think not only about filling their own pockets but also about sharing profits have such thoughts. I hope that Kim Ki-heon, our representative, will create a space where we can discuss such stories together. This is also a game-changer. You probably all know, but our son shocked the world by using drugs.

I was also surprised, but drugs are really scary. I hope that everyone in the pharmaceutical industry can join forces to prevent drugs. It's not a political agenda, but whether the prosecution takes it or the police take it, I don't care. If someone does it, it's fine with me. From the perspective of parents who see children using drugs, it's heartbreaking to see them fighting over it. Do you know how many drug users there are in South Korea? 2 million people. Even if each drug user is considered a household, it would be 2.2 million households in our country. If you think about it, there are drug users in one out of every ten households. When you look at an apartment complex, you might think, Oh, there are a few people using drugs in this neighborhood. How do you not know this? The arrest rate is high, but in our country, when they tested the water from all sewage treatment plants, drug traces were found. It's because people are disposing of drugs there, and our government did that.

Do you know how much drugs are out there? Elementary and middle school students are all using them. Do you know what's even scarier? Some of you are encouraging your children to use drugs. Do parents know what they are doing? You need to achieve success, have good academic background, and look good. What is this? Going to girl groups and boy groups for academic background and appearance, because of appearance and materialism. Parents tell their children things like, Hey, you need to lose weight, why don't you take some diet pills? Even so, you can't concentrate on your studies well, right? Take some awakening concentration pills like ADHD medication. Children, in order to study well, their parents are introducing them to drugs right away. Drugs are all about drugs. If you keep taking them, stronger ones will come. Do you know that parents are unknowingly pushing their children into the swamp of drugs? As a result, it keeps increasing. Last time, with President Biden...

Do you know what the third agenda of the meeting between President Xi Jinping and the U.S. is? The first is security, the second is trade, and the third is just one thing: fentanyl. Because of fentanyl, the leading cause of death among young people in the United States from teenagers to people in their 40s is not traffic accidents or anything else, it's just one thing - fentanyl. Tens of thousands of people die from just one fentanyl. Which country's road is this? My son also used various drugs. The ones caught are the minority. This is now the reality of our society. Think about it once. Imagine a soldier in the military holding a gun and using drugs. Or think about a bus driver or a taxi driver driving under the influence of drugs. Aren't you afraid? Such a world is coming. But there is a challenger in the drug industry. A game-changer is making an opioid vaccine. If you receive this vaccine for opioids like fentanyl, it will have an effect.

Good doctors and a good government in the United States are working hard to make the vaccine now. Probably, the FDA will approve it around the clinical trial. It's that serious. Indeed, even if our country is not prepared to this extent, how will we respond to drugs? The National Assembly, the political circle, and the government, even the president, have been fighting over drugs, but are they really backing it up properly? It's not another country's issue. What is scary about this fentanyl pill? It's very scary. In the past, what we saw in movies like marijuana, those were natural drugs. Cocaine as well. But fentanyl is a synthetic chemical drug. It's made by mixing ABC. If you take it, you die. You die right away. So, this is like a zombie drug, and people are just...

Are we ready to keep these things out when they come into our country? Do we have control towels? For example, do we need something like the Narcotics Control Agency? I hope that such discussions are taking place in the new National Assembly. So, parents who discover sons like mine who use drugs are dismayed about what to do with their child. Can we have a government that can handle that? I reported my son. Before that, my son attempted suicide twice. Why did he attempt suicide? Because he couldn't stop himself. But please, release him. Release him the second time as well. The third time, when I had a sacred ceremony, my second son reported him. Release him again. Finally, when I brought him in and reported him, he was arrested. What I want to say is, we...

With the help of law enforcement, I wanted to cut off this child's drug supply, but it doesn't work that way. I talked with the hope of becoming a country where this is possible through the system. In Korea, we can definitely develop an opioid vaccine with technology. If the government helps me create the opioid vaccine, we can shut down drug dealers worldwide with just one war. This is like that. When we made vaccines during the corona era, we kept making variants, and we kept making more. That's the same with this. Fentanyl is one of them. But drugs, if you mix fentanyl with ABC, when fentanyl is heated, if you mix ABCD, it becomes another drug. So, the war on drugs is not just talk. Money is needed. We need to detect it. The government needs to identify this as a drug. We need to catch those who pretend to be innocent. Then what do we do?

Great equipment and effort require personnel. Without such preparations, we are just trying to block future waves. Do you worry about the low birth rate? It's a national issue. If one out of ten children born is addicted to drugs, they can't do anything economically, physically, mentally, or spiritually. It's more dangerous than not being born. You should think about the low birth rate issue from one perspective. Now, there are various game changers. This is what I've been doing lately while working. Simply put, nowadays, Coupang, Homeplus, and Emart are fighting. The game is over. I'm sorry, but both of those companies are good companies, but it's over. Online is taking over. It's the trend. It's a 180 trillion market. In Korea, in the e-commerce market, selling products is...

The market is 180 trillion won, but Korea is not yet a 180 trillion won market. The 130 trillion won market still has areas where e-commerce activities are not possible. Where is it? In the area of buying new cars. In the United States and the UK, people buy new cars, but we have dealerships, right? No, that's not the case. Nowadays, young people just go into platforms and say, I'm going to buy a $30,000 car. What functions do I need? Then, they choose to buy by brand, rent, or subscribe. For example, they might drive a Porsche this month, a Lamborghini next month, and a Tesla the following month, all arranged through that platform. Such an era has already arrived, but Korea has not yet fully embraced it. That's why there are young people doing this. Why haven't we been able to break free from that structure yet? There's a reason. If you study it, you'll understand it quickly. Then, you can open that door.

Should we be invaded by foreigners or should we enhance our competitiveness and go abroad by ourselves? I think these are the points that should be discussed at the Future Innovation Forum. Even Robert, right now, in the field of future industries, a few wealthy foreign companies are making hardware by acquiring foreign companies, but we have not yet succeeded in making software. So, what should our politicians do for this? At our Future Innovation Forum, we need to discuss how to nurture future industries and what needs to be addressed. You will see what needs to be grown and solved among future industries. This is, for example, not cryptocurrency but a technology called encryption. Just young people who start startups have put up prize money for this.

If I break it, I'll give you $100,000. This technology, which still hasn't been broken, was created in Korea. Such technologies need to come out a lot in the future. So, in conclusion, I would like to say, Engage in open innovation. I hope the National Assembly will become a platform for open innovation. I have also tried to fight to some extent, so I understand, but I'm truly sorry that no one is interested. I deeply empathize with what Representative Lee Jun-seok said earlier. Young friends have problems they are concerned about. However, even when I look at the National Assembly, it doesn't seem like there is much discussion about those issues. But I have hope. Please do that at this Future Innovation Forum. Members of the parliament, so many of you came today, including the leading candidates. There are votes here. If you do this, not just internal votes but the votes of the people are waiting.

No, it's not just about people. As I mentioned earlier, how will you abolish elderly jobs? The era is opening where elderly people picking up waste can be transformed into vehicle managers. Just a little touch is needed. By addressing the problems that young people worry about, industries can be created, leading to the emergence of many jobs.
