welcome to this video touring a French highway rest stop. You'll experience a full tour of a typical French highway rest stop. This rest stop is located in Northeast France in the town of Orschwiller on Highway 35 in the Alsace region, between two lovely cities, Strasbourg and Colmar. This rest stop is very interesting because the rest stop is on one side of the highway system with tunnel access to the other side. It's also very interesting because a circus, otherwise known as a traffic circle, allows access to different parts of the rest stop. I like the compact design and organization so far. Most parts of the French highway system are free to travel without toll, and today we will visit Air de Route Peony Explorer. That's the name of this rest stop. [Music] To get direct access to the rest stop, they make it very convenient to guess your car first, then go to park inside, as you can see here. Unlike the German, Swiss, and Austrian rest stops that I saw, this French rest stop is very expansive and open. There's

ample parking in areas to walk, let your dog exercise, and let the children run. It was also very impressive how they grew vegetables in a garden that would be used in the Rest Stop Kitchen. How awesome and sustainable is that? In subsequent YouTube uploads, I will be showing you a US, an Austrian, and a Swiss Auto rest stop, and I will use that to compare with this French rest stop. Here's a 360-degree view of the rest stop Mini Mart, access to the bathrooms downstairs, coffee machines, and sitting right in the middle and dining establishments to your right. Very impressive that they have six Lavazza Italian coffee machines dispensing excellent coffee. The coffee was reasonably priced, unlike Switzerland and Germany. Here's where it really gets impressive: a welcoming kitchen and dining room is at the rest stop to serve food. I arrived in the morning, and they were serving delicious breakfast and typical lunch food. The quality of the food served at the cafe was truly incredible. Please listen: what is this woman saying on site at the Mini Mart? They sell candy.

drinks, beer, trinkets, souvenirs, and you can even buy wine from the Elsas region. Here, the rest stop offers showers for truck drivers. The showers and bathrooms are clean. Let's check out the gasoline fuel station. Fuel stations accept credit or cash. Unlike the German rest stops, the French rest stops did not charge more than the non-highway rest stops in Germany. That difference was sometimes 30 to 40 cents. This part of the rest stop is where trucks fuel with diesel. Since it's a restaurant, many truck drivers and camper vans will park overnight to rest. Unlike in the United States, many of the trucks in Europe have the cab-over design, where the cab is over the engine.
