Being creative is something I never would have described myself as. I still don't necessarily always think that I'm the most creative person, but there are some things that I have learned, some tips and tricks that I'm going to be sharing with you in this video that can really help develop your design skill and develop your creativity. I always like to think of creativity like a muscle, and it is truly one that you have to work in order for it to get stronger. How you work it is by practicing, by doing, and I'm going to show you a couple practices and exercises that you can actually do to boost your creativity and create more bestselling designs for your print-on-demand business. The most common design advice that I see being given is to look at bestsellers and make something like that, but better. I feel like that advice is so vague and really difficult to actually implement and to do without some type of design background or inspiration to help you get to something that is better than that original best-selling design. Since I'm going to be designing today, actually this morning I went and made a community post asking which niche do you want to see me design for. It seems like evergreen is what most people want to see me design for in this video, so that's what we're going to do today. Creating something that is evergreen, I don't necessarily consider it a specific niche. I consider it more of a category that is an umbrella term for a type of

Niche, and if you weren't familiar with an evergreen niche, what that means is it is a niche that can sell all year round. The other type of niches that you might often hear about are seasonal niches, and these contrast to evergreen niches in the sense that they're only going to be selling for a particular season. To design for something that is considered evergreen, we need to dial it in a little bit more specific. And so going back to the comments in my community post, I saw Debbie. She had commented professions and evergreen. Please. So your wish is my command, Debbie. We are going to do a profession for our design, and professions are an example of an evergreen niche because they do typically sell all year round. I find the easiest way to create a design that will actually sell on Etsy is to start by doing design research, similar to how you might already be used to doing research for keywords and looking for different niches to sell for. I'm going to start this process very similar, and because I'm looking to

design for a profession. I don't really know exactly what profession I'm going to do yet, so I'm going to just start by typing in profession shirt. I do want to add a disclaimer because I am going to be showing specific design styles that are working right now on Etsy. I am sharing these not for anybody to copy these exact design styles. Instead, I'm going to be showing you how you can utilize these to pull different elements from them and create your own unique design style. It is never okay to copy somebody's exact design. That is their intellectual property, and I can promise you that is the first way to fail on Etsy. Here's where I can get some great ideas as to what is already selling in the professions niche. I want to start studying the design styles that I'm seeing are having success on Etsy. Immediately looking at this first page of search results, if I see something that I am drawn towards, I'm going to actually take a screenshot of it so that I can create a vision board for myself.

later, and I'm going to be using that vision board as I create my design. One thing that stands out to me right away is the rotation of colors in these two design styles. Every other letter is a different color, and these two color palettes being used are pretty similar. I'm going to go ahead and just take a screenshot of these. This third listing has the rotating colors as well. Something that they do a little bit differently is they have this cursive font that goes right through the center of the lettering. I really like that design style, so I'm going to take a picture of that. The layout of this design style I've seen time and time again when I've done design research previously, just with the text angling over through and a straight line of text below. I'm going to take a screenshot of that. This design right here has also caught my eye. I feel like it's a little bit of a combination of some of the other trending elements that we've already seen with the arked text across.

the top that more script font along the bottom. I think that's a little bit of a spin on some of the trending designs, so I'm going to take a picture of that. All right, I've made it to the bottom of the first page of search results. I could continue scrolling through the different pages here and repeating that same process, looking at design, seeing if there's anything that stands out to me that I want to use later for a vision board, which you'll see that come together here in just a moment, but instead I'm going to do a little bit more design research and jump over to the left here. I'm going to go to the product analytics. This is a feature of Everbe. Everb is a research tool going through the listings on the first page of search. Really, I was just looking for what stood out to me. However, if I'm looking to create a design that I want a lot of people to be interested in and purchase, I do need to find some success metrics behind some of these design styles to make sure that they are ones.

that aren't just appealing to me, but also are going to appeal to the masses, and are actually going to see sales. Filtering by monthly sales, I can look at the top selling listings for the search term profession shirt. Jumping into this very first listing, this is for a custom teacher shirt. I'm going to open this up, and I can see that this has the rotating color design style that we've seen very popular in other designs that we've already taken pictures of, and it features the cursive text along the bottom, bringing in two elements that we've seen repetitively in some of the other design styles. The second listing, opening this up, I can see it has some really great success metrics behind it. However, with my knowledge of the 9s, I know that the Magic School Bus is definitely something that should not be sold on a t-shirt. I am going to imagine that Miss Frizzle is trademarked, and I don't think this is a safe sell, so we're going to ignore this listing. We'll jump to the next one, and for this listing, if

we open this up looking at some of the success metrics behind this listing. Looks like it was listed this time last year, and it took off pretty well. Last year it has an estimated total sales of 1,440, and right now estimated monthly sales are 109. This design also uses rotating colors throughout the text, but what they have done a little bit differently is they've added some graphics along the bottom in relation to the specific niche that they're targeting. Let's take a look at one more listing. We can see it is a bestseller, has 20 plus views in the last 24 hours. Analyzing the listing, this listing is also only a month old. The listing age is one of my favorite success metrics to look at. I find it really inspiring finding listings that are less than 6 months old and already seeing a high volume of sales. Let's jump into design. What I've created for myself in K on the left, I have my vision board. Here are all of the pictures, the screenshots that I took during my design research, and I've

placed them on one artboard. When you don't have a background in design and a lot of experience in creating designs, I find it really helpful to have a vision board in place, something that you can refer to. This can be really helpful in just making sure that the design that you're creating really lines up with the types of designs that are already selling and seeing success on a platform like Etsy. We have our inspo, but there's still one more thing I need that I have not gotten yet, and that is a profession to actually design for. The more common professions that you'll typically see are teachers and nurses. Those are two top-selling professions on Etsy, and while I think that they can be great niches to target if you're a brand new seller and you're looking to tap into professions as a niche in your shop, I would encourage you to find some of the less saturated professions as a start. I think one of the better ways to stand out in the teacher or nurse profession would be to make it a little bit more

specific and targeting a specific type of teacher or a specific type of nurse. One way I like to get more specific with a niche is by going to my trusty partner chat GPT. We will say write out a list of the top five professions in the United States. So we have registered nurses, software developers, general and operations managers, financial managers, medical and health services managers. Let's do nurses, but let's make it a little bit more specific. Let me add a little bit of spice. The top five nurse specialties. All right, we have critical care nurse, emergency nurse, oncology nurse, pediatric nurse, neonatal nurse. This is absolutely amazing. These are five specific nurse types that we could utilize for our profession design. Let's go ahead and create something. We'll do an emergency nurse. I like that to start my design. I'm going to go ahead and add in a headline. Let's make this bigger so that my eyeballs can read it. We will write emergency. My goal is to pull from elements that I see working in these existing design styles but creating

something that is still unique and my own. I am going to actually go ahead and Arc this text. I like this element that we can pull from the occupational therapy shirt as well as the para professional shirt that we found. I am going to actually explore some of the text. This font right here is super popular. Sunny drop it's that fun retro bubbly font that is super popular in a lot of the design styles that I see. I like this font. This is another font that I see used a lot. Sun shade. I think I'm going to go with this font. And let's go down to the artch. Let's see. I might want to. I think I'm going to just bring that all the way up to 100. Make that a little. A Little Bit Stronger for this. I'm going to write nurse still using the same elements to this style. I really like this style here. Let's just make sure that we are centered. I can just click this right here. Perfect over in Pinterest. I am on the hunt for a color palette. I think a

really great way to stand out would be to pull from the design style that's working. Of the rotating colors, but instead of reusing the same color palettes that we saw reoccurring through a lot of those best-selling designs. I think it would be better to find a different color palette, and that could be a new way that I bring a different value to that design style. I like this color palette. I am going to go ahead and take a screenshot of this. Going back here, I can actually just drag that screenshot in, and now I have this color palette that I will be able to reference for my design. I'm going to quickly download what I have thus far. I'm only going to download the second artboard. I don't need to download my vision board here, but I'm going to actually bring this over into my iPad really quick. That is where I find it easiest to create the rotating color pattern. So I'm going to do that for this design. [Music] Perfect, okay, so we have that. I'm going

to just line this back up, and now we have the rotating colors, which another thing that I will share here. I did an interview actually with Drew who runs the KD YouTube channel. I will link that full interview in the description box below, but something that he did share with me is that to do this rotating colors, specifically in KD, that is a feature that is on its way. So soon won't have to bring it to my iPad to do so because this is something that really is so trendy, and I think that can be repurposed into tons of different niches. To continue this design, I'm going to pull inspiration from this top left shirt that I took a picture of. I really like the C font through the text and how I'm going to recreate that for this design. I think a great way to add value would be making this a more personalized item as well, so I'm going to add established 2024, and let's change this to a cursive font. I'm going to just click script this.

is going to filter to all of the different cursive fonts. I'm going to go with this. This is the font big snow. And I do want to change the color of this. I'm going to make it white. I do like that from the original design style and how they Incorporated that text. I'm going to change the background color of the artboard so I can see that a little bit better. Sometimes what I like to do is actually try to mirror the color of the item that I might be selling it on. So for example, if I were to be selling this maybe on something like a dark gray Heather Bella canvas 30001, I could change the background to something similar like that. And there is our final result. I really like the way that this turned out. This is something that I could repurpose and use for the other nurse professions that we got from chat GPT. I could do this for a critical care nurse, an O nurse, a pediatric nurse, and I could also go back into Pinterest and find different color palettes that

could potentially customize this design even more and create different versions of it to see really what takes off and what sells best.
