4 years you have been asking me to get this brand in my hands. Well, it finally happened, and it's finally here. Yes, my friends. [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] hold on, hold on. Is the Outlaw Audio RR 2160 Mark II. So sit down, grab a cup of coffee, and let's talk about the Outlaw Audio RR 2160 Mark I. That it's not heavy at all. Hot [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] coffee in the beginning of the channel. I would do a video on another product, and people in the comments would say, You need to check out Outlaw Audio. You need to check out Outlaw Audio. They have a ton of amplifiers and receivers that aren't terribly expensive. I had tried to reach out to them before, but I don't think they had an email. Anyway, I couldn't find an email for them. I tried.

to call one time, and I don't think I got anybody on the phone. Well, someone called me and asked me if I wanted to review some Outlaw stuff, and I said, Yes, please. This, I'm not going to hold it up again because I'll probably injure myself, blow out a rotator cuff, or maybe cause a hernia or some type of slipped disc. This is the 2160. It's a $1,000 receiver, and it has more options than the stock [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] market. I'm just going to talk about the input and outputs right now because getting into it and actually using this thing is another whole section in and of itself. I should also mention that Outlaw audio is a direct-to-customer company, which means they do not sell through dealerships. So, you go to them, you buy something, they sell it to you. Sometimes in that situation, you get a better product, or you get a product that doesn't have necessarily the dealer

markup the distributor markup. So, in theory, you're getting a way better product at the same price if you were buying something that's traditionally distributed. But a little secret: some direct-to-customer companies out there still jack their prices way up in regards to how much it costs to build it versus how much they sell it for. Most people, though, pretty honest. Not going to mention the one that jacks up their price. They call this a stereo receiver, and I would have a tendency to believe it. Why? Because it has a tuner in it, so it does have the radio. Okay, on the back up on the lean corner, you have a USB play upgrader. I'm assuming that is for some type of firmware updates, although it does have Wi-Fi. To the right of that, you have an ethernet port. That's right, this thing is a streamer. Next to that, you have a Wi-Fi antenna. Underneath there, you have your right speakers. You can play two pairs of speakers at the same time. You can also run a passive subwoofer off this thing to the right of

that you have a moving magnet and a moving coil phono preamp. Then, four analog inputs next to that, a record out next to that. You have an external processor in and out next to that, base management which is switchable from 60 HZ, 80 HZ, 100 HZ, or bypass. Base management B basically means that you are going to be sending 60 HZ and above to your main speakers, or 80 HZ and above to your main speakers. So, if you have some small bookshelf speakers that you don't want the base going to, and you already have a subwoofer, then well, you can block the base on the back of this receiver. Next to that, preout Main in with a jumper, which means you can put an EQ in here, you can do a lot of things with that. Two subwoofer outs next to that, another pair of speaker binding posts times two up on the top again. USB PC connection for your deck, two coaxial ends, two Optical ends, accessory power 5 volts DC SL 1.0 Max, which means

you can take a Weim Pro, a Weim Mini, and you could power it from the receiver itself, but you probably don't need to do that. Then you have IR in, IR out, master power switch, I EC connection, but we almost forgot HD radio antenna all the way in the top in the middle jam-packed. Let's talk about how it works. Prepare yourself, get a cup of coffee, let's talk about how it [Music] [Applause] [Music] works. All right, chances are I am going to miss something, but took some notes on the back of something I'd already written on Just Like Old School, just like I'm writing on the back of one of an envelope or something like that. Okay, let's just go through some of the functionality. Loudness control, which is great. However, you have to dig into the menus a little bit to get to it. Bass EQ, they call it EQ, but it's basically a bass boost at three different frequencies. So, depending upon what you're in the manual, it says select the

frequency that is just below where your speakers start to roll off. In essence, though, it's a bit of a bass boost at three different frequencies. Then you have regular tone controls, regular balance, and there are knobs on the front so you don't have to dig super deep in the menus to switch things on the fly. It also has a headphone jack, so you have a headphone amplifier in this thing. It has internet radio. I couldn't really get it to work, but I know it works; it's just I wasn't patient enough. Then it has an app. Basically, what the app is is a streamer. I don't know if it's working on Bluetooth, AirPlay, Chromecast, if it's actually streaming, because the module looks, when you sign into it, it looks like a four-stream-based streamer, which would make sense because there's a lot of those out there. They're used in AILC, and a highly modified version is used in WEAM as well. But there is a streamer inside, and it does work, and I don't know.

why they don't promote that more. [Music] [Applause] You can also hook up a USB storage device and stream music off of a hard drive. You have a record out, and you have a record selector, so you basically select the source that you want to record from. It also comes with a very interesting remote control. It's a metal one, actually. Put the batteries down in here. I've never really seen something quite like this. It's almost like a flashlight or something, but the remote is well-built. There's a lot of options on there. This is splitting hairs, and I shouldn't really be complaining about this because it's fully functional, and you can get into all of the menu system with this. Sometimes it's easier to use the remote than it is to actually use the unit itself. But the volume right here and right here kind of gets lost. It gets lost. Lost individual buttons for your different inputs. It's very nice. It's like a brushed aluminum or something on the back. Almost feels like wood or textured plastic. I don't know.

very nice remote control. It's got some good heft to it. If you threw it across the room at your brother when you're growing up and you're fighting, and it hit your brother, it would probably hurt him. That never happened with me throwing a giant Sylvania metal remote control across the room and then denting it and then getting into a lot of trouble because at the time, color televisions cost a lot of money. And I bent the remote control. Still worked, but who knows how it got bent. We'll never know. It's a mystery. Maybe something that actually fesses up when I see my parents the next time, like, I dented the remote control 'cause I don't know if they can get mad at me anymore. [Music] [Applause] This, I think, this is a product that doesn't really have it. There's no easy way to compare this to anything else because it just has so many options, not just from having a lot of inputs, but then you have the three levels of EQ, but

I'll just call them base boost. You have regular tone controls, you have a tone control bypass, you have variable bass management. On the back, you have an internal streamer. It's a little rough around the edges, but it works. Internet radio, regular terrestrial radio, and it puts out a lot of power: 110 watts into 8 ohms, 165 watts into 4 ohms. Put some fairly hard-to-drive speakers on them, not terribly hard to drive, but when you're pushing 90 dB, they're hard to drive. That's the ELAC Deb three. This drove it just fine. Actually, this was the best amplifier to drive it, even over more expensive integrated amplifiers. How it sounds? Well, you can change that up a bit. What I will say is this sounds fairly similar to an Emotiva: full punchy on the bottom, clean mids, and then airy highs. I mean, that's always what I hear. I just want something that has full punchy bass, natural mids, and sparkly highs. Well, this has it.

reminds me again of some vintage Kenwoods, vintage Pioneers. It's just a great unit. Now, it's a little bit dated looking, and how it looks is going to be very divisive when it comes to the crowd. This looks like it's kind of straight from the '90s, which is fine because it's built well, super heavy. The knobs feel a little bit chintzy though. Some of the knobs, well, I think all of the knobs are plastic. No, I think the volume knob is metal. The balance, treble, bass, those are plastic. And then the controller for the record on the headphone amp is a little bit askew, a little bit bent. This is something that I've seen on vintage receivers and something that I've seen on receivers when I was growing up, so I'm not like totally, Oh my goodness, this is terrible. But overall, the thing is built pretty well, but these knobs and some of the buttons are a little bit loose. I don't think it will really affect anything because Outlaw has a very good

reputation. The front panel, though, is metal and it's cool because you have these different layers, you have some different textures going on here. Screen's a little bit dated too, looks like a computer from the original alien, you know when it wakes up 'cause there's a proximity alert, kind of looks like that. Does that make any impact on the sonics? Absolutely not. This thing sounds awesome. It has more options than any other integrated amp that I've ever listened to. So it sounds good, you got a ton of options. Some people might not find it attractive though. I'm extremely impressed with it. Most of the time I don't use all of the options available to me, so you have to ask yourself number one, will you use all of the options that it has? Because there's value in all those options, but if you don't use it, there isn't any value. I would argue that even if this thing didn't have a streamer, even if it didn't have internet radio, it would still be worth the price of admission at

$999. I think this is an absolute bargain. I love the variable base management. I love the preamp and the main in. I love that you can run four speakers on this thing. Really amazing. If you're in the market for an integrated amplifier and you like the looks of this thing, you need to give Outlaw audio a hard look.
