Apple's October Event: New Mac Products and Software Launch

Just when we thought it wasn't happening, Apple has officially announced their October event. So today, I want to go over the final leaks and rumors for all the new products that we're going to be getting in just a couple of days. And while usually going into Apple events, we don't know exactly what's coming, well, this time Apple has just straight up confirmed everything. Starting off with the announcement that we got over on Twitter SLX, where they said, Mark your calendars. Yeah, it's going to be a Mac event. We get it. However, that's not the only thing we're getting, and this event itself is going to be really unique, as Apple says they have a week of announcements, actually starting off on Monday, October 28. So it seems like instead of doing a traditional 30-plus minute keynote event where Apple invites media to their headquarters, that Apple is essentially spread out the event over the course of Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and maybe even into Thursday. And each day next week, it sounds like they're going to be a new product announcement.

every day, which is actually really exciting. Now, Apple has also shared a teaser video for this event where we can see the Mac logo glow in rainbow and then slowly transition into a glowing rainbow Apple logo, which is one-to-one with their branding for Apple intelligence. So, just as much as this week of product announcements is going to be about new hardware, I think new software is going to be a really big part as well, and more on that a bit later in the video. Right now, we have four different products confirmed for this event, starting off with the big one, which is a redesigned version of the Mac Mini. Apple has not given this machine an overhaul since 2010. It has had the same rounded rectangle thin and square aluminum design pretty much forever, but all of this is changing. Apple is shrinking down the Mac Mini into a much smaller form factor, similar in size, we're hearing, to an Apple TV, which for context is an incredibly small piece of hardware. This is the Apple TV. It fits into my hand. Can you imagine a desktop

Mac that size, that's wild. At the same time, Apple's keeping the core connectivity with an HDMI port on the back, an Ethernet slot as well, five USB C's are now going to be on this Mac Mini, as well as two on the front. It sounds like that's been such a hit on the front of the Mac Studio that Apple's bringing two USB C's to the front of the Mac Mini, which is sick. Aside from how it looks, though, the other big upgrade is going to be the new chips on the inside. Apple's going to be offering it in an M4, as well as an M4 Pro option. As this event is going to be where we get Apple to start unveiling the rest of the M4 chip family, and from what we're hearing, these chips are going to be major leaps forward, especially that M4 Pro chip. We're so far into Apple silicon now that the performance is just starting to get actually silly. So, that's going to be in this Mac Mini. All things considered, this new Mac Mini sounds like it is going to

be the perfect mid-range desktop option for somebody that just wants a crazy fast little box of computer stuff. That's the best way I can describe this. I genuinely think this Mac Mini is going to be dope. Now, following the redesign Mac Mini, Apple is also going to be announcing M4 MacBook Pros at this event. And if you're wondering how I know that 100%, I would actually bet I will delete my YouTube channel if they do not announce new M4 MacBook Pros next week. And here's why. It's because we've already seen in full Russian YouTubers unbox the M4 MacBook Pros. Like, these have somehow leaked out from a factory, and they are in the hands of non-media.

andess people in the wild, which is something that has like not really ever happened before in this capacity. And this week has showed us exactly what Apple is changing on the M4 MacBook Pros. Like, there's going to be 16 GB of RAM base now. Apple is finally increasing it from the 8 GB it's been standard forever. The base MacBook Pro is going to come in the space black color for the first time, and it's getting the third Thunderbolt 4 Port that was previously exclusive to Apple's more expensive MacBook Pros. So, the cheapest $1600 MacBook Pro is getting a lot better. But Apple's not stopping there. They're also going to be unveiling the M4 Pro chip, as we know, but also the M4 Max chip, which will be the most powerful chip they have ever released in the company's history. Now, usually, chip is like, okay, a little spec bump, 10-15% faster, okay, upgrade if you're on something old, but this time around, I don't think the story for the

M4 Max specifically is that simple because, according to current estimates, Apple's M4 Max chip might be faster than the M2 Ultra, which, for context, is two M2 Max chips that they have literally fused together. Being able to get this level of performance out of a laptop that also has 20 hours of battery life has never been done before. I know it's just a chip, but as somebody who's always needing a little bit more headroom for my workflow, this marks my words: the M4 Max chip is going to be nuts. Next, after Apple unveils their revamped MacBook Pros, they're going to return their attention to their desktop lineup and introduce a new version of the 24-inch iMac. Now, do not expect any major changes to this one, and by far, this is likely going to be the smallest change of any new product that is coming next week. While Apple could potentially change up the colors on the back, which I definitely think are due for an upgrade since we've had these same ones since

2021, the main change is going to be the new M4 chip on the inside. Now, this computer, more than anything else, is going to be a spec bump refresh, and I would set my expectations pretty low for this one. I don't see anything crazy happening. That being said, though, there is a fourth product, or should I say set of products, that Apple is also now 100% confirmed to be releasing at this event, and this one comes courtesy of Apple themselves. Spotted in the release candidate version of iOS 18.1, Apple has referenced a new version of The Magic Mouse, a new version of the Magic Trackpad, and a new version of the Magic Keyboard as well. Interestingly, though, these still say that they are the same second-gen versions of these products, which for reference were released back in 2015. I have a video on my YouTube channel of me unboxing the Magic Mouse 2 in 2015, 99 years ago. And it appears that when this update happens, it is just going to be

apple switching from lightning to usbc. We are not hearing that there's a backlit keyboard, or maybe Apple switching the port from the bottom of the magic mouse to literally any other spot on the product whatsoever, so you don't have to flip it upside down where you're charging it, which is actually insane that we've had to deal with this for a decade, and they're probably still not going to change it. No, I'm not like salty about that at all though. I can't wait to see them put the USBC port on the bottom. Point being, USBC magic accessories are coming, but do not expect anything else. So that's all the new hardware, but I also mentioned there's going to be a big software focus that Apple's talking about too, and that's because Apple intelligence is launching across all of their platforms on Monday, October 28th. Finally, more than a month after the iPhone 16 series has been out, you'll be able to use the text editing tools. You'll be able to get the

new look for Siri. These features that we've been waiting on for a while will finally be here, not just on the iPhone though, but on the Mac side too. And with Apple putting these super powerful M4 chips in all of these new Macs, Apple intelligence is going to run even faster, even more efficient, even better on these machines, which is absolutely going to be something that they talk about. That if you care about AI features, then you should get these new M4 Macs. And maybe, like we saw on the iPhone 16 with that exclusive visual intelligence feature built specifically for the iPhone, maybe Apple builds in something specific for these M4 Macs. Either way, there's still just a bit of mystery about exactly what the pitch for these M4 Macs is going to be, and I will let you know as soon as we know.
