you have a pair of AirPods 4 and want to get the most out of them. You've come to the right place. I'm Lexi. Welcome to your weekly dose of all things mobile. These tips and tricks work with both AirPods 4 models, and some of these tips might also work with earlier AirPods. But if you have a pair of AirPods Pro 2, let me point you in the right direction of the AirPods Pro 2 tips and hidden features video, which is linked up here and down in the description. Go and watch it right now. Don't worry, I will be waiting for you here when you get back. To start, the basic controls. The AirPods 4 have a four sensor on the stem, so you can press it once to play and pause music, answer calls, or mute and unmute in a call. A double press changes the track or ends the call. A triple press rewinds the track or goes to the previous track. A long press switches between noise cancellation and transparency mode, but

you can change some of these in the settings app. Just tap the name of your AirPods and scroll to find Press and Hold AirPods and Call Controls. You can also change the speed at which you need to press. Just scroll down all the way on this page to find Accessibility and then change the speed. There's no button on the case of the new AirPods, so how do you pair these with a new device? Double-tap the front of the case and wait for the white light to appear. Now go to your Bluetooth settings on your new device, and you should see the AirPods pop up. You can nod or shake your head to answer or reject calls, messages, and notifications. This is on the AirPods 4 and AirPods Pro 2 only. Make sure that Announce Calls and Notifications is turned on before you try this. So go to Settings, Siri or Apple Intelligence, and Siri, and then Announce Notifications and Announce Calls. Turn on each of these options and then also make sure that it's turned on for headphones. Now go

back out to your main settings page, find your AirPods, and then scroll down to head gestures. Turn it on, and you can also change what these up and down or side-to-side movements do. Next time you get a call, give it a try. You can have soothing background sounds playing when you put your AirPods in your ears, not from Apple Music, not from Spotify, but built into iOS. Swipe down to the control center, then long press to add a control, find the hearing option, and then tap that icon. This is when a menu should pop up, and you should be able to see a background sounds option. Tap this, and you'll be whisked away to the magical sounds of the waves, or the rain, or fire, whatever suits you really. When you're on a phone call, swipe down to the control center and tap the microphone icon that's at the top of the screen. This brings up a menu so you can switch between voice isolation modes or standard voice modes manually, or of course, you can leave it on automatic if

you want this could be helpful if you're in a noisy situation, and you want to reduce that background noise for the caller on the other end. Got an Apple Watch? You can control the AirPods from your wrist. If the AirPods don't automatically switch to your watch when you're playing music from it, and you want to switch them manually, bring up the control center on the Apple Watch, and then tap the AirPlay icon. Then choose your AirPods. Once you're connected, the AirPods icon gives you access to volume, noise control modes, and toggling Conversation Awareness on and off. Also, know that in some Apple Watch apps, you can control the volume using the Digital Crown, like in Spotify. You can charge the AirPods in lots of different ways via USB-C, like you normally would, put them on a Qi wireless charger, plug a USB-C cable from your phone and charge them up from there, or if you have an Apple Watch charger, just attach it and away you go. Make spatial audio sound even more personal.

and tune to the shape of your ears by setting up, you guessed it, personalized spatial audio. Go to Settings, AirPods, Personalized Spatial Audio, and then follow the instructions on screen. You'll need an iPhone with a TrueDepth camera, and the process is pretty easy. Add a widget on your lock screen to get a quick visual of your AirPods' battery. Long press the lock screen, then customize, choose your lock screen, and then add widgets. Here, you'll select the battery widget. You can add either the small icon or the longer icon with the percentage written out. Or is leaving your AirPods behind? You can set up separation alerts. Open up the Find My app, then go to Devices, and find the name of your AirPods. Tap the name, and then scroll all the way down to find Notify When Left Behind. Now, if you leave your AirPods on your desk, in the gym, or somewhere else, you'll get a notification when you're far enough away on your phone or your Apple Watch. The iOS Shortcuts app opens a world of

possibilities on your AirPods. I'm going to show you how to set up a shortcut so every time you put them in your ears, they'll say the phone's battery percentage. Super helpful if you're not able to look down at your phone. On the iPhone, open the Shortcuts app, then tap the plus icon in the search actions bar. Start typing Get Battery Level and select it. Then in the search bar again, type Speak and then type Battery Level. You should then see Battery State appear as an option you can select afterwards, so tap that. What this combination does is says the phrase Battery Level and the number Battery Level 86. If you want to get really fancy, you can add another text block right after this that just says Percent. So this is what your finished shortcut should look like on the screen: Battery Level 85%. But we aren't done yet. Now we need to get it to run automatically every time you put your AirPods in your ears. Go to the Automations tab and then search for Bluetooth, and then here under Device

select the name of your AirPods, select is connected, and then run immediately. Press next, and now all that's left to do is to try it out. Battery level 85%. A lot of people have asked me how to boost the bass or change the sound on the AirPods. If you use Apple Music, go to the Settings app, then find the Apple Music app, then EQ. Turn this on, and you can select a preset here, such as say increase bass. You can also do the same for third-party music apps like Spotify, which also have their own EQs. But if that doesn't tune the sound enough for your liking, you can try to make a custom audio setup. Go to Settings, access Accessibility, Audio and Visual, Headphone Accommodations, and Custom Audio Setup. Then, it's going to prompt you to be in a really quiet environment and switch the AirPods into noise cancellation mode. Tap continue and go through those prompts for voice, but this comparison with the music is particularly important, so just select the version here that sounds the best to you.
