so today I'm going to talk about tips hacks beauty secrets what whatever you want to call it that I have learned over the past 55 years. Hi everyone it's Melissa yes I'm going to talk about what I've learned over the past 55 years and you may wonder why I chose that number. I started getting interested in makeup and Skin Care mainly for acne then and hair and just ways to make myself look better at that age in my teen years and so I started read magazines and learning little tricks and I was at the age of 14 so I'm 69 now so 55 years of doing these things and I I I was interested I'm still interested in makeup and skin care and hair and uh things like that and so I thought I would talk about what I have learned over these past 55 years and I have to say in defense of my friends uh that are over the age of 60 70 80 90 that do YouTube videos we've really got a whole Vault full of

knowledge and most of my friends do not do Botox. They don't do fillers. They don't have any plastic surgery, so they have gotten to 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s trying skin care, and we've tried it all. Among all of us, we have tried it all, and you can see on our faces the results of it. Um, I know that there's a lot of younger like dermatologists and Skin Care Professionals and stuff on here, and younger people that do videos, but we have lived it, and you see on us the results, whereas they still don't know yet if things like that are going to work for them because they haven't reached the Elder Years yet. So I did want to tell you, please, there's too many to mention, and I'll forget someone 'cause there's probably people I haven't even discovered yet that are over these older ages that do videos. And so I wonder if we should do a hashtag, maybe just over 60, over 60, or over 60 YouTuber, something.

like that something over 60 and then you can look for that. Let's do over 60 and you can look for that hashtag, and you will find videos of these lovely women that have the most amazing tips to share. So today, these are my tips to share, and I hope other people will do it too so that we can all learn from the wisdom that this group has. Okay, so I'll get off my soapbox now. The first one was realizing how I sleep affects wrinkles. I realized this when I was 14 years old because back then, you know, we didn't have blow dryer. We had hair dryers that were kind of lame, but we didn't have blow dryers. We didn't have flat irons. We didn't have, you know, curling irons or anything like that. So we would wash our hair at night, or this is what I did. I think most of y'all did too, and would sleep on great big rollers or orange juice cans. I remember I took the biggest rollers I could find.

there were brush rollers. I took the brush out and I would set my hair. And I realized that like when I was reading in bed or something, that I was tilting my chin down. And I always had these three wrinkles right here since I was a little girl. And I remember thinking, if I keep, if I sleep with my head tilting down, those three wrinkles are going to be, they're going to be really deep. But I, by the time I'm really, really old, like 40 or 50, because you know, that's old then. So I remember I got into the habit of sleeping with the pillow back there to keep my head tilted back. So today, I, I don't sleep with rollers in my hair anymore, but I still sleep with my head tilted back to, you know, try to not make these three wrinkles deeper in my neck. So sleeping on my back is something I discovered early. And this, I mentioned the other day. I read in, I think, 17 magazine, that when you're putting on your makeup, not to raise your eyebrows.

because doing it day after day, by the time you get to that old age of 40 or 50, you'll have deep wrinkles in your forehead. And instead, when you put on your makeup, to drop your jaw and I do I it's hard to demonstrate but I drop my drop my jaw when I'm doing my eye makeup particularly instead of raising my eyebrows. So I've always done that and I always thought that that was just such a good hint to follow to keep as many wrinkles off your forehead as possible. Okay, this is something I realized about my hair when I was very young. I have to do something wet, preferably, to get the hair off my scalp. My hair is thin, it's fine, and it plasters to my scalp. I'm not talking, it just lays there smoothly, it plasters and then it goes out and it looks odd and bad and you can see like parts of my scalp when it plasters to it if I don't lift it up some way. So if I don't like wash it upside down in the

sink on my final rinse in the shower. I will flip it upside down, let the water run through it, and lift it off my scalp. And if I can't do that before I put the towel on my head, I will take my fingers and while it's wet and lift it up that way. I blow. I have to if I if I'm going to dry my hair naturally, I have to do some heat lifting on that rout, and I learned that about 14. And another one that I do is I try to keep, and this is not for everybody, but this is just what I I pass it on. I keep as much moisture away from my skin as I can. What I mean is I don't add an extra moisturizer there. There's, uh, you know, softening agents to help things spread in your makeup, in your sunscreen, in your skin care, um, and preservatives and things like that that can add some moisture to your skin. I'm just talking about I don't do a dedicated moisturizer added to my skin. I try to dry my skin.

out uh I try to keep my skin as moisture-free as I can because it's firmer uh when I add moisturizer it gets lacks and sags a lot, and there's a big difference. And another thing that I have found, you know, the more you wash your hair the oiler it gets, but the more I try to keep moisture away from skin, my skin the more moisture my skin naturally produces to make up for it. It's like my skin says to itself, it's get I'm getting dry, we need the body needs to make more moisture, and it's still my skin is still making lots of moisture even without HRT and and even with the hormone suppressant drugs that I'm on. If I keep moisturizer away from it, dedicated as much moisturizer as I can away from it, it will start producing its own moisturizer. So that's why I don't do extra moisture, and I found that out. I found that out in my 40s when I when I was.

adding moisturizer. I thought my skin doesn't look right. I maybe in 30s. I thought my skin doesn't look right, it looks so saggy. So that's when I just quit doing that. Okay, this is the hint I found out. I think it's the same one too, like I've had this for over 20 years. It's a little epilator. Now it's a little thing like that, and it still works, and it has these little, I guess little, I don't know, things that grab the hair. You run it over your hair, like on your face, you run it over, and it grabs the hair and pulls it out by the root, and over time, it takes away. So, you know, I would, I remember I started getting those, I guess in my 40s, those little stiff hairs and, you know, different parts of my face. So I bought one of these and did it, and they, it took, you know, time, but over time, they never came back again. So I love this little epilator and anywhere that you

want to permanently move remove hair. An epilator will do a pretty good job, and it hurts it first, you know, you just kind of just do it and then press on the area, you know, I would do that, but after a while, I think the root just starts coming out. I think the hair just starts coming out so easily. It doesn't really hurt as much anymore. So an epilator, I think that's a good beauty um hack. I really do. And I can, you know, when you're using retin-A, you can't wax and really you can't do n you know, you can shave, but even that can irritate your skin when you're doing lots of harsher things on it. But for some reason, this epilator doesn't irritate at all. So I highly recommend it. Another thing I do, I have done day after day, twice a day, morning and evening, year after year, is when I wash my face, I look down into a mirror and I pull my skin up. I've demonstrated it a bunch of times on

my neck up on my jawline up up around here, and I just think that that's a good habit to do, you know? I see people, like, will do their skin down like that, and it may not affect them, but it would affect me if I did that year after year. But going up and making sure that I went up on, you know, all my products that I do, I just think it, it's, it's just on my skin anyway, it's just a good habit to have to help lift. When I was 14, oh, there's a little bunny rabbit right out there, so cute hopping along. Anyway, when I was 14, I started doing um, slow open exercises, especially with my hips um, and so I wanted to be, I wanted to try for cheerleader, so I wanted to be able to do the splits. And since then, except when I've had surgery or been sick or something, every single day I have done exercises that help to strengthen and help my joints and open up my body, open up my joints. And I still do it to this

day and I pretty much do the same exercises. So I spread my legs and I go down and touch the floor, and I do slow movements. I don't care for fast things, which that's a mistake. I should do some cardio work. I'm going to. I keep saying I'm try to get walk start walking when this heat goes down. I've been having. I've had my third off subject nonse Seer, but I've had my third bout of vasculitis on my calves and on my shins, and so they've taken me off the hormone suppressant drug that I'm currently on. I have to be off of it for two weeks, then I'm gonna. They're going to start me on tamoxifen to see if that's what it is. That's the only thing they can figure out why I keep getting this vasculitis, but anyway, and it's painful, but anyway, um back to the subject. Yes, I need to walk more, and hopefully when this heat and my legs clear up better, I can.

do that, but I just enjoy the strength of feeling my joints be loose and strong, and feeling my legs be strong. I do weights slowly, I do leg weight slowly, I do yoga type things, and that's another thing. I've been looking up some yoga tapes to start doing those, but I enjoy those slow things, and I think it's just helped me feel not only physically strong but emotionally strong and grounded, as and open like I'm doing something good for my body that has helped me emotionally and physically to do yoga type things, to do exercises that open up my hips and you know make my joints strong. So, I've enjoyed that, and when I get started on yoga, I will share who I end up watching, because I've been watching several tapes. I found one woman, I can't remember her name now, I've got her marked that I like her, her yoga system. So, I'll probably talk about that later. This is something that I thought was interesting when I was in high school. I remember I had this

eyeliner that it was no I had it was a a dark eyeshadow, and I remember I took a little brush and I put it not quite on the waterline, but I put it right on right above the eyelashes um real close to the waterline, and I did the same thing on my upper, and I remember that people at at my high school, they went oh my gosh I what have you done to your eyes, that is so interesting, it really brings out your eyelashes, and so I realized early on that you know doing some tight lining, I didn't do it again for years until I started doing YouTube, but well no that is not true I started doing it again in my 40s, but adding some tight lining was something I discovered early and played with over the years uh because I realized how it would enhance my eyelashes, the next one is diet and and I don't do diet videos because I have Crohn's disease, so sometimes I have to eat differently from other people, and I

remember when I was a teenager starting about 14. I was never a picky eater, but I always ate a variety of things, you know, lots of meats, and vegetables, and fruits because I wanted to keep my skin clear. I had problems with acne, and so I got interested in skincare early and my diet early to try to and drinking lots of water. I remember thinking if drink lots of water it'll help my acne, and so I started doing that. But having a well-balanced diet was something that I did early but except for the Crohn's it's always kind of served me well. It's kind of just always kept my weight even. It's always just made me feel like I was taking the best care of myself. It always made me feel like I was getting the proper vitamins from food that I needed to have. So I think having a well-balanced diet was something I discovered early and always St with okay another one that I discovered with all the Color Me Beautiful stuff came out but I did this

and I don't necessarily I wear all different seasons. You know all different colors but I think it's important I have done a video on this. It's important to find out which colors do look best on you. It may be multiple. You know, dipping into different seasons. But if you can take, you can kind of get a general idea. So you can what I did in my video. And like I said, I will link it. Is you know, you can take a piece of white. Do your hair back, no makeup, nothing on your skin at all, just your skin. And you look, you take a get a mirror in front of you, a nice big mirror, good lighting. You check your eyes and you check your cheeks. And so you, you take two items and you put one in front of the other. So put a like a white item, a white shirt, and underneath it a beige shirt. So look at the white shirt, look at your cheeks, look at your eyes. Do they look brighter immediately drop while you're looking at your eyes and your cheeks, drop the white.

item and look at the beige item. Did your cheeks get brighter? Did your eyes get brighter? Or did your eyes get and cheeks get duller? Do the white back up again? Did it get brighter? So do that with several different colors. Take an olive and an emerald green. Did the olive make your eyes look brighter and your cheeks brighter? Or did the green go back and forth, back and forth? And you'll get an idea of different colors, which ones look better on you, the cool ones or the warmer ones. And you can start to tell which colors are kind of cool and which colors are kind of red. You can look kind of warm. You can look at a red and you can see that the red, take a red that looks like, hold them next to each other, see which one's more of an orange-red, see which one's a pure red. Dr do them up, do them up next to your face, drop one, raise it, drop one, raise it, which one makes your cheeks and your eyes look brighter. So that can kind of tell you if

the cool choices are a little more flattering to you, or the warm choices, or just neutral, but that give you an idea of color and how color can affect your cheeks and your eyes and your brightening of your face, and kind of make you feel better. Uh, there's no right or wrong way, and you can, of course, wear any color you want, but you'll start to find as you become more familiar with color, you'll start to find the things that actually do look a little bit better on you. So that one is something I discovered a long time ago. Um, work on your mind, I think that's very important too. Work puzzles, work word games, work Wordle, work quarle, or oral, or what all of those. I work them all. I work them all every night. I do, uh, Sudoku, and I work the New York Times crossword every night. And, you know, it gets harder during the week. By the time Thursday or Friday rolls around, I usually can't get many of them, but I try, and I look up the answers, and I learn something. I've learned to

work uh edit you know my YouTube videos. I've learned to work a camera. I bought a new microphone. I've learned to do technology. I've learned to do things. I've learned to work social media and post things uh on that and anything like that. I think I think anything like that can really that will help our mind stay as sharp as possible. Well, that's a big Beauty hint. That's a beauty trick. That's a life trick. That's a life hint because it'll just keep you interested and interesting um and I guess the last one is one that we all need to follow and I need to follow and that is to accept yourself and to love yourself to realize just because you're getting older that you're still relevant and you still have a lot to offer and you still can teach and you can still learn and that I think that is my last message that I would give to anyone that that is interested and is listening to this.
